darksol-aeternium
My next few posts make an assumption I wanted to clairfy here; ,, How much practice do we have with our powers at this point? I'm assuming my character can control them completely, but hasn't seen much combat experience.

Justin OOC
I have assumed you all have some experience using and knowing your abilities. combat experience is likely considerably less, unless you've already been trying your hand as a hero
Scout
Sorry it took me so long to post. I was out of work sick yesterday, and I couldn't bring myself to get off the couch as I was feeling under the weather. ,, I have another busy weekend coming up, but I'll do my best to drop in here if I can at some point before Monday. ,, I was going to make a comment toward Rachel about helping her train off some of that 'lab fat', but I think I'll hold that for later. I'm just going to throw it in here so I don't forget I was going to say it. Scout made a quick aside to Rachel, "I'd be happy to help if you need any pointers on physical training. I'm no doctor, but that happens to be something I know a thing or two about."
Scout
Looks like you posted as if I had said the bit about training. So I'll edit that back into my post.
Doctor Northlight
Seems you edited it in already. ,, The reason why I posted was due to my reading this thread thinking it was the in-character thread here as your post read like it was IC. When I realized otherwise I cut and pasted into the other thread and posted. ,, I should have double checked.
darksol-aeternium
under 3E rules the stunt I just posted is apparently something called "Astroport"... it doesn't specify its distances other than to say "interplanetary/interstellar" so this display assumes that the gate opens to somewhere just beyond the moon. Since gatekeeper isn't spaceproof (yet) he can't poke his head out there and see without explosively decompressing.
Heritage
I believe the current thinking is not explosive decompression as much as being freeze dried, which is possibly worse.
Doctor Northlight
Actually it's just a terminal case of suffocation, frostbite, and radiation exposure all at the same time. The movies and comics always get it wrong. But, it's moot for Space Girl. When I go through I'll just post the experience in one post and return. Actually, should I append my most recent post so I can have that happen for the sake of time, or can I make the post in a couple postings?
SalmonMax
There's dessication too. You lose water from your skin and mucous membranes. ,, Granted, that's probably not the most serious of the problems you'll be having at the time, but it does happen. SalmonMax
Arr. The gasses evaporate out of the liquids in your body too. ,, It's very unpleasant. Kind of like the bends, only worse...cuz it's all the gasses.
Doctor Northlight
Yeah, the simplest way you can protect yourself in space (I like to call it being spaceworthy) is to have immunity to all environmental conditions and all suffocation types. That I believe is 7 points total.
darksol-aeternium
Spaceworthy is actually 5 points, it's listed in the Cosmic powers profile (those books are just so convenient! ). I just didn't have the points to buy it so I assume I just haven't developed it yet. I didn't know if we were gonna go traipsing off into alternate dimensions but there's an immunity to hostile alternate dimensions as well that I didn't buy. ,, When you go ahead and stick your head out there, the actual distance he's gated open is 0.1AU, which is a little less than halfway between the Earth and Venus. Since there is no correlative chart for Astroport (it's largely a plot-power), he's opened a gate at the lowest possible setting of that power since he doesnlt have it bought yet. If/when I buy it I can then teleport across star-systems and distance becomes totally meaningless.

Scout
Okay, got my latest post up. Just kinda trying to keep up with everything that's going on. ,, To be clear, Scout's tone is reasonable and in no way vindictive or accusatory. Stargaizer
No, The Paladin is telling the truth. darksol-aeternium
Gatekeeper hasn't been concerned with being watched ever since he figured out how to make extradimensional spaces, so all ths machine does for him is provide the exact point to warp the whole group to. We're gonna be all over this city like herpes! And TWICE as hard to get rid of!! ,, ... I may use that one IC, that was perfect!

Doctor Northlight
Well I just looked at the thread and caught up... seems we ARE the NSA. ,, If things go in a direction, Rachael would have to walk. I don't care what the consequence is, that's her character. And she would bring that surveillance system the group has down in the process. ,, I'm serious when I say this. Look at her complications.
SalmonMax
Well, we're not the NSA. We're just looking over the NSA's shoulder. The feeds were already in place, according to Focht. He doesn't own them, or even control them. He just taps into them. ,, Which has issues of its own...in particular the US Govt would super-not-be-pleased to find out about this.
Doctor Northlight
Yeah. That is why Rachael also suggested she be the one watching. She has the Ethical/Moral restraint. Not sure how MO thinks on the issue, but Rachael doesn't like where it could go in the wrong hands.
Doctor Northlight
Okay, I have to ask, right now, how further into the dark are we going? I expected something far more heroes actually being heroes, and this is starting to really go past grey. This is some iron-age level stuff we're dealing with. To be honest right now with Doc I should be tearing everyone a new one for not even being remotely shocked by all this. ,, To be honest I don't know if Doc can stay with this group with a clear conscience. And she is one that WILL speak up. ,, I saw nothing in the proposal that suggested we would be taking this road and the choices we make would decide things. What it's looking like here is that we're already on the path to pissing off pretty much everyone. ,, I hope I've made it clear in character Rachael is completely against this. If it means she has to leave the group, that's fine. If it means I don't got a character for this, I am not going to be pleased.
Stargaizer
I personally don't see this being that big of a deal. He isn't making any new surveillance networks, he's just surveying what's already being surveyed. This is pretty much what they show the FBI doing in Castle, which is a very far step from what, say, they did in the Batman movie (with the cell phones). He's illegally collecting all those feeds, but he's not spying on anyone any more than they already were. Javier said basically what I think... they were being watched before, the only difference now is that someone ready to help if anyone needs it is now watching also. ,, There are going to be some illegal activities, especially starting up. From their vigilantism to their monitoring for where they're needed. But Javier has stated that they should stay as legal as possible. This is the implication that this is pushing him close to his limit as well. Hopefully this is the worst of it.
Doctor Northlight
Yes and that sort of behavior Rachel WOULD NOT participate in. Rachael believes in a ethical and moral use of science, including technology. This runs smack into that wall. My wiggling around it would render a character's defining point and a character complication moot.
Stargaizer
You gotta go what you gotta do. Though I am hard pressed right now to think of a superhero team that doesn't have some method of keeping an eye out for trouble that doesn't go beyond (sometimes way beyond) police scanners. ,, I guess I was just trying to say that I don't see it as unethical. Illegal, yes, unethical, no.
Doctor Northlight
Well here is the things proposed: ,, 1: The system uses already existing public cameras. Fine with that, it has already been defined that the cameras only watch the public domain. This Rachael has no issue with. ,, 2: The system has been tapped into by Mr. Focht That Rachael has issue with, and she is going to want to be sold that this is for the greater good. At the very least a promise that is what it'll be used for. ,, 3: The system needs people watching the monitors. Rachael would volunteer. ,, I'm not trying to be a buzzkill here. And I would like to keep to my character's concept without having it be disruptive. You dig? It's a pretty sticky affair.
