  1. Not in a financial sense, though. We’re all still fine in that regard! But in referring to a little bit of internet foolishness that, frankly, I was just going to ignore for today until Impish Ian created the above lovely pastiche graphic. I mean, our motto combined with the logo for the legendary Red List from Vampire: The Masquerade all in regards to the so-called red list of gaming companies that are “too woke”? Had to include it today! Briefly, some gamers decided to create lists of the companies that create TTRPGs, and assign them to a green, or yellow, or red list depending on how “woke” they felt the companies were. Their definition of “woke”, mind you. It’s all subjective and dumb, at best. We were assigned to the red list, with no comments attached – when I saw the thing, so I guess we’re so well known for being against hatred, discrimination, and Nazis, that nothing more needed saying. Works for me. Hundred Devils Night Parade art by Romane Fauer Since today was Labor Day, it was nice that our Monday Meeting was relatively short. We did cover these topics, though: We submitted the Deluxe W20 Apocalyptic Record Kickstarter page to Paradox and then it’ll go to Kickstarter itself. Once that happens, we’ll start sending around links for its Pre-Kickstarter page. And then we’ll announce the date it starts! The book has six chapters, and I asked Matthew for some info on them. Here you go: Chapter One: Ahroun Tales — We open our story with the Full Moon and its many tales of combat, bloodshed, and wisdom gained from the battlefield. War is our footing, and destruction is at hand. Chapter Two: Galliard Tales — We move on to the Gibbous Moon and the songs sung by the Galliard, with stories of tradition, inspiration, and grievous loss. Our Galliards impart tales of stirring victory and howling defeat. Chapter Three: Theurge Tales — We move on to the Crescent Moon, and its journeys into the Umbra, the power of spirits, and fetishes and Gifts possessed by the Theurge. Insight is imparted here, from the many Theurges and their varied views of the spirit world. W20 Apocalyptic Record art by Drew Tucker Chapter Four: Ragabash Tales — We hear from representatives of the New Moon and all their promise of tales, trickery, Kinfolk, and Wyrm-tainted foes. Through canny and calculation, the Ragabash may hold the key to triumph in the face of Apocalypse. Chapter Five: Philodox Tales — Our judges and mediators, the Philodox, conclude our tale. Just like the Half Moon that represents them, they advocate for balance, even if that sometimes takes the form of an eye for an eye. Their stories are ones of peace, no matter how temporary, and ruling, no matter how just, or unjust. Chapter Six: On Metaplot — Werewolf: The Apocalypse has a history stretching back many, many years. This chapter opens the door on that history, and provides invaluable advice on how to utilize it in your chronicles. Hope that whets your appetite and stokes your fires of curiosity! Ghost Hunters art by Niko Pope Our crew talked a lot about biz stuff like Pay Schedules and Proofing Times, which I have needlessly capitalized to stress that they are things that are Important to getting books made, but not the fun acts of creation that everybody enjoys so I won’t go into the details. And that conversation led into actual proof talks about the ones coming our way. Both from DTRPG for our PoDs, and from the traditional printers. The former because we have a slew of excellent books coming from DTRPG, and the latter because we’re still in the process even if the actual printing and manufacturing won’t happen until January. All of a sudden, time has flown by, and Virtual Gen Con is virtually next week! The Starter Sets/Jumpstarts sale is still going on DTRPG: https://www.drivethrurpg.com/sale.php?manufacturers_id=4261 More and more, we’re seeing increased value and usage of Jumpstarts for our games as more and more people get into our hobby and want to try out new games. For experienced players, we’ve been trying to include extra value beyond just being a “intro module”, so they are not just for beginners to a game line. In fact, speaking of Jumpstarts with more to offer, we very recently offered for sale the Teen Tomorrow Jumpstart for the Trinity Continuum: Aberrant game line, and in addition our team burned through a conversion of Teen Tomorrow for Astral TableTop, the virtual tabletop venue! 4. We’re just about three weeks into the Trinity Continuum: Adventure! Kickstarter, and we’ve hit the legendary Sargasso Sea of Lost Ships time period where the KS pledges start to drip in. We find this “slow time” with all of our KS’s, pretty much, and many of our friends in other companies report the same thing, so it’s not unusual – but we’d still like to get the word out. This is a great time for folks out there to join us in pushing the KS to friends, family, random strangers – whatever gets more eyes on the KS page! Our TC: Adventure! team have continued to sit in on interviews and other media – doing their part to spread the word – and you can find those links down below in the Media section. Meanwhile, we do keep achieving Stretch Goals and building the companion books, just a bit more slowly at this period! V5 Trail of Ash and Bone art by Ken Meyer. Jr. In keeping with the theme of the last several weeks of covering the pulp roots of adventure, I’m thinking a little show and tell of the various pulp elements and the callbacks to first edition that I picked to include on the Trinity Continuum: Adventure! cover might be fun. And fun is the name of the game when it comes to pulp! We’ll start from the top down: There are a couple of things going on here that are presented together: first, this is our cavalcade of villains. We based these on the baddies from first edition, who were heavily photo-manipulated members of our White Wolf staff during that time. So their photos were great source reference material for our 2e cover artist Shen Fei. It has been said that the pulps were only as exciting as their villains. And we have some goodies. Uh, baddies. Well, you know what I mean. Since Zorbo was always one of my favorites of all of them in terms of megalomaniac splendor, he gets the big “topper” position and we use his death balloons as a backdrop that includes an aerial dogfight. There was a whole sub-section of pulp that was primarily about aerial aces, but all of them had flying and fights in the skies as elements of their stories. Aviators were a big thing then, with the new developments in flight driven by the two world wars fascinating the regular folk who bought the pulps. Amelia Earhart disappeared in 1937, and while Charles Lindbergh’s flying exploits were more in the decade before, in the early 30s the tragedy of his son’s kidnapping and murder kept America’s flying hero in everybody’s minds. Below them, we have a veritable smorgasbord of pulp tropes, but most importantly they surround possibly the key character of the Trinity Continuum: Max Mercer in the classic ripped shirt punching pose that is clearly an homage to Doc Savage. Doc appeared on most of the pulps and all of the paperback covers in a shirt ripped by his exertions as a hero doing heroic things. Besides punching what is clearly a “living skeleton” hard enough to knock its skull off, Max is in a jungle – a favorite pulp setting – that also seems to have some kind of albino great apes as inhabitants. Previously undiscovered varieties of animals was a huge thing in pulp adventure fiction, sometimes for good, but often as part of the inexplicable death plots of the villains. Further, I wanted to include an early model car, as again, the development of the automobile and the gadgets a car could include were a big part of pulp, and why not include an adventurer using a super-science gizmo to zap some hoods that probably came out of that vehicle? Gangsters and criminals were also frequently the bad guys – usually as the disposable pawns of the master criminals. Finally, still in just this one section of the cover, we have an ancient ruin – often a different civilization that we know from history books were in that area, a robot because SCIENCE!, and an adventurer that looks vaguely familiar being chased by a dinosaur. Whether in the Hollow-earth, or just isolated parts of the world, stories that contained dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures all jumbled up time-wise were a popular type of story. After all, if your hero had a tough fight with a bear, how much more exciting was one with a saber-tooth tiger or rampaging dinosaur? And as a kid who loved dinosaurs beyond all reason, having them in the pulp stories just made them so much fun for me! Here we are: the original Aeon Society from the 20s depicted posing in the classic photo I made and included as a historical relic for the first Aeon book – and reused over and over again in the first edition. Had to have them here, not just because of that first edition callback, but because their characters ran the gamut of pulp heroes: the weird scientist, the science-mystic, the crackshot, the disguise artist, the flying ace, the explorer, and their leader. These folks were also portrayed by members of the White Wolf staff during the time that we were working on the first Aeon core book and they’ve lived in immortality ever since! Below them, you see the Hammersmith Event explosion that was this era’s “empowering” moment. One of the three “tent-pole” events that make up the trinity that the setting could be said to be named after. Finally, just like on the previous core books’ covers we have our new characters representing the player characters that could be made in the setting. They combine bit and pieces of options in the book, with maybe some tommy-gun shooting toughness, maybe something more mystical or hypnotic, and definitely some masked gadgeteering. Pretty close to the three types of heroes in the book, and pretty close to some classic pulp tropes. Below them is the city. Any city from the 1930s, although there are a bunch of New York landmarks squooshed together along with other buildings going up. Always up. This was the time of skyscrapers and the building of towers. And above them, an autogyro, the forerunner of helicopters in my mind, and as good a symbol of that age as any – and different than a dirigible, which we did consider. Figured Zorbo’s death balloons got us close enough to them, and we’d be sure to have them in the interior art. Anyway, that’s how I tried to pull in just about everything I love in the pulp fiction of the time and combine it all in a way that we hadn’t yet so that the various details add up to a feeling, an impression, that matches the fun and adventure that are specific to the pulp genre. Hunter: The Vigil 2e art by Alex Shiekman Meanwhile, Behind the Facade of That Innocent Looking Company: Most of what we discussed today were options for the Onyx Path 2021 Online Con panels, as well as which projects would benefit from Actual Play sessions during the con. We’re trying to give those games that folks need to see being played some APs, and also those that just need publicity – like any that are going to have upcoming crowd-funding campaigns after the mid-June con date. Because everybody has opinions and favorites, it’s one of those topics that benefit from us discussing and hashing out the choices of game lines. From the list we agreed on, we can look at each game listed and assign possible GMs, which will then be parsed with available times and available players. It’s spread-sheet heaven! We’re doing a similar thing with the panels, and then the final piece will be all the non-AP games that will be played during the con time frame. There should be a lot more of those than the panels and APs, and many more of our game lines will be played in those games. So, we’re hoping every line gets a game or more that folks can sign up for, or watch something about if it’s a discussed during a panel or demo’d during an AP. Lick I menttioned last weak. Dixie coud styll youse: more editors! If the previous two sentences bugged you so that you read this through white-hot fields of fiery rage, you too may be just who she’s looking for! Contact info is on our website! Legendlore art by Gunship Revolution A new sale is up on DTRPG – this time it’s an Urban Fantasy-themed sale so you’ll be able to find PDFs on sale for Scion, Both Mage lines, and both Changeling lines. I hear there are also a lot of our community content sites’ projects included, as well! Finally, we compared notes on a lot of meetings happening this week, starting off with a new set of Developer Town Hall virtual meetings tomorrow (Tuesday), with an earlier one to make it easier for our freelance creatives across the Atlantic, and a later one for folks west on the US East coast. We never know what these chats are going to cover, as while our Monday Meeting crew will have a couple of topics to offer, we’re also there to answer questions or just engage in discussion with anyone attending who wants us to. This has been the pattern since we started these last year in order to bring our far-flung creators together in an official venue – and it really has seemed that folks appreciated it during all the weirdness and awfulness of 2020. As always, I ask any of you who have questions or topics that you’d like me to mention to the devs, please do offer them up in the Comments section of this blog! I WILL bring them up to the crew. They have questions, the MM crew have questions, you all have questions – we’re all in this together, and it’s a chance to get answers and a discussion going pertaining to your favorites of our: Many Worlds, One Path! 6. The Deluxe Mage: The Ascension 20th Anniversary Edition: Victorian Age is the GAME, and the crowd-funding platform Indiegogo is the, well, GOGO! Together, we’re talking about the campaign on Indiegogo for M20: Victorian Age (whew! that’s a lot less of a mouthful!) that has 10 days to go and continues to climb! Generally, we’re really very happy with the way the crowd-funding campaign has gone. There’s a very steady beat of pledging, and folks are asking really helpful questions – not just about the game content, but also about the campaign itself. This is excellent. James loves to keep up a bunch of conversations in the comments section, and can generally dig up any answers he doesn’t already know the answers to. The one gap area though, is when it is something that has to do with Indiegogo‘s processes. Those, we’re all still learning as we go along. Just like with our games, no matter how much you research something new, somebody is going to raise a question you haven’t worked out yet! But we continue to learn by working through your questions, as well as our own! Pretty much the most common area for questions is about payments. People are used to, and often budgeted for, the Kickstarter method of taking the pledges at the end of the campaign. A bunch of our tried and true processes like Stretch Goals and the release of text during the KS are connected to the way KS does their processes, so we feel ya. James has been answering questions and helping folks figure out how to pledge or what to do when they want to upgrade a pledge or add to a pledge – most of which tends to be to a) cancel your pledge and re-pledge at your higher amount, or b) wait until we finish and move to BackerKit and pledge and add-on there. So, Gogo will be taking pledges up until the end of the campaign on the 25th of March, for those of you who have waited until the end to pledge, and then we’ll move quickly to BackerKit for post-campaign activity. Like I mentioned a week or so ago, we’re also trying something we haven’t before – we’ll keep count of the BK pledge totals and see if we can’t achieve a few more Stretch Goals! Like all of this crowd-funding for M20 Victorian Age, we’re emulating the inventive nature of the era, and even the BK part is trying out something we haven’t done before with counting for SGs. Heirs To the Shogunate art by Gong Studios Now, here’s something new: also on March 25th, after the M20: Victorian Age campaign is over on Indiegogo, we will start the Trinity Continuum: Adventure! campaign on Kickstarter! This is a campaign for a book, and an era, near and dear to my heart, but more on that next week and the weeks to come. This week, the week before the TC:Adventure! KS launch, we’ve compiled all of the 6 parts of the Tales of the Aeon Society! radio drama into one collection which will be available this Weds! If you haven’t yet listened to any of the parts of the serial, now’s your chance to get all of them together – it’s a fantastic and thrilling lead-in to the game and Kickstarter! We had a ton of fun putting together the radio drama, and in talking with the performers, I think they did, too! It’s not every day you get to be the voice of a student of Sherlock Holmes, a talking gorilla scientist, or Max Mercer. Plus, the writing for this gave us a very different angle on how to demonstrate the differences that we’ve incorporated into pulp-style entertainment so as to reflect a modern sensibility while keeping the fun parts. I’ll talk more about this next week as it relates to both M20: Victorian Age and TC: Adventure!. Until then, really hoping you all get the chance to listen to our stab at old-time radio cliffhangers! Children of the Blood art by Drew Tucker Clues From What We Talked About at the Monday Meeting! Good Lord! <choke> Our meeting was really very project-focused this week, with lots of talk about the various game lines and how we are setting up their new projects. Ian mentioned that his new computer can handle the crunching for adding animated parts to our Kickstarter videos in like one one-millionth of the time. So expect to see some tasty graphics in the TC: Adventure! KS video! We looked at our massive iceberg of projects that built up over the course of 2020 in Editing that Dixie and crew have been chipping away at week after week. So, freelance Editors and Indexers out there, please do apply if you’d like to try using your skills on our projects – Dixie has a steady crew right now, but can always use more hands! We’re involved in two sales currently: Roll into Spring Sale at IPR:https://www.indiepressrevolution.com/xcart/Deals-and-Specials/ March Mystery Sale at DriveThruFiction:https://www.drivethrufiction.com/sale.php?manufacturers_id=4261 Mummy 2e art by Nate Pride Finally, just a couple of teasers that we discussed the non-teaser parts of today. First, there’s a pretty cool announcement we’ll be making in two weeks – we hope, if all works out – and another fun one for April that are entirely not related to each other! Obviously, I’m teasing for right now, but you’ll see what these are all about very soon. If anyone had way too much free time on their hands, they could probably look at each of the teasers I’ve brought up here over the years and chart them to the actual projects we then announced. Not saying anyone should, just that I only do them for things in the pipeline that do happen. Eventually! Today is the birthday of the late great Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, inspiration and legendary jurist. As far as I know, there are no connections between these two events.

  8. As people far and wide keep showing up at all hours and backing the Deluxe M20 Victorian Age crowd-funding campaign on Indiegogo! Earlier today we passed the 200% funded mark, and we still have a little more than half of the campaign to go! The line itself is a play on “The sun never sets on the British empire”, which was said during Victoria’s reign because they had countries under their rule throughout the world. Empire-building and colonialism was in full-flower then, with everything that entails. M20 Victorian Age deals with both the classic tropes of the Victorian Era, and also with the terrible costs in human misery underlying those tropes. It attempts to provide a background based on history broad enough for players to be challenged with the questions of their time, even with the power at their disposal. This Era could be the most dramatic and dynamic for playing Mage: The Ascension! Yet to be clear, M20 Victorian Age is not a history book, although our writers have researched the era, and the history of Mage: The Ascension, in order to combine the two, nor will it address every issue that every person can point to. It’s not an encyclopedia of the time, nor is our intention to provide info on all countries in detail. It’s goal is to cover what is going on with Mage in the time period, which is a whole lotta material in and of itself, and give folks the info they need to have fun and enjoy. Since backers will have access to the full manuscript, every backer will be able to enjoy what the team has created before the campaign is over. (And if you do see an area you’d like covered that’s not in there, please do use the form included with the manuscript downloads to politely suggest adding it). TC: Adventure! art by Atagun Illhan As if M20 Victorian Age wasn’t enough, I’m thrilled to have another big announcement about M20 today! If you look down at the First Drafts section of the production progress report, below, you’ll see that a previously unannounced project called M20 Lore of the Traditions has shown up! Much as Lore of the Clans did for V20, M20 Lore of the Traditions will devote a chapter to each Tradition, detailing new and deeper info and player options. Like I’ve gone into all of 2021, we had a whole bunch of projects and other initiatives bog down because of last year – and if you combine our challenges with those of our license holders, it all snowballs. But now, we can shake the snow covered 2020 tree and projects are falling out! It feels good. Contagion Chronicle Jumpstart art by Brian LeBlanc And How About the Monday Meeting, Then? We spent much of the meeting going over our plans to set up the infrastructure for the next Onyx Path Virtual Gaming Convention in June. There’s a lot of pre-planning even for a virtual con, and we need to get that settled before we get any closer to June. Did I mention that it’s in June? We’re having sales at both DTRPG with their GM’s Day Sale running until the 15th. Almost all of our PDFs are at a sales price: https://www.drivethrurpg.com/rpg_gmsday.php?manufacturers_id=4261 And IPR is selling our dice sets in their Rolling Into Spring Sale: https://www.indiepressrevolution.com/xcart/Deals-and-Specials/ We found out during the meeting that we have 2000 members on the Onyx Path Discord. Which is fantastic news since we really haven’t been active with it for that long. We all hope everyone on there is enjoying the conversations in all of our game world categories, and for such things as the Pathcast. It’s moderated, and most of our devs and a lot of our writers are active posters, so come check it out! Children of the Blood art by Sam Araya Speaking of improvements in 2021, we’ve added further to our pay rates, and have begun to phase out Pay Upon Publication from our contracts. This is only possible because of our continuing good sales, even through 2020, and those are only possible because of your support! We’re always looking towards evolving how we handle the business aspects of the company, from trying out alternative platforms for getting our projects into your hands, to improving how we work with our hundreds and hundreds of freelance creators. In big ways and small, Onyx Path has been evolving every year since we started in order to keep on creating what we all enjoy, our: Many Worlds, One Path! BLURBS! Kickstarter! 14. that said there are some games, that you might be able to join, you'd have to PM the people running them. Weirder Stuff and Scion Modern Mythology are still going.
  15. Well with Lilly's Departure, Coach Meyers is somewhat concerned, and starts to lean heavily on Cade to join the football team. With a changing dynamic in his life, he decides to give it a shot. He'd join, and quickly end up taking over as quarterback. This would at least start to grow Cade's confidence as a leader, maybe help him actually become a good one. Cade's still game to invite everyone for a fishing trip/fishfry/barbecue at the Pond, not a training thing, but more just a relaxing get-together. Good food, good friends, and outdoor fun. Cade would like to actually see the Smilodon again, both to make sure it's being treated well, and to work with it, because let's face it, he's probably the only one who's got a shot at doing so. Cade is concerned with what he can actually do in the coming fight. Currently his means are purely mundane, and he's worried about that being effective, so he'll want to try to push himself and up his game "Curve the Bullet" stuff maybe.. I want Cade to actually become aware of Dramatic Editing and his ability to do it, at current he's ignorant of it. It could come off that he's always been lucky, things go the way he wants them to more often than not, and he learns that he's actually making his own luck. Cade still needs to actually ask Marissa to homecoming. Probably something that will happen in the current phase of the thread. I see Cade spending a fair amount of time with Marissa, enough that she learns he's into anime and manga. I foresee the Bag of Horrors making an appearance, so that now they both know the dark secrets of each other.
  16. Thursday Night After talking with Sean, Cade had gone home and hidden the rifle. Only Haruka and his mother were home. He sighed, not caring about where his father was now, and pulled out his phone. It was nearly ten, late but he knew the person he wanted to talk to was still up. He couldn't recall having called Devin before, and wasn't all that surprised when it went to voicemail so he left a simple message. "Hey Devin, it's Cade. I'd like to talk about some things. I'm heading to Bunnies, and I'm buying if you'd like to meet me there. " With that he head to Bunnies, and went and sat in the booth the Fellowship normally sat in, made his order and waited. He had a feeling Devin would come, possibly thinking this was about Marissa. He wasn't planning on discussing her at all really, he had other reasons for this, but as an older brother himself, he knew he'd give the speech to any boy she ever brought home. He sighed, waiting for either Devin to show up, or his food to arrive, wondering which would first. It was strange, in as much as he really did expect Devin to show.
  17. Thursday Night 7pm After revealing he had indeed managed to somehow keep hold of the rifle he took from the prison, later on Sean had revealed an interest in it. It was after school, nearly seven at night, as Cade had had to take care of some work before he could head over to Sean's. The rifle and clips were folded up in his backpack, and he smiled as he pulled up at Sean's. He quietly made his way to the barn, where he'd agreed to meet up with Sean, and chuckled. "Anyone else, they'd probably wonder just what the hell's going on." He knocked on the door, and waited. He knew enough about firearms being a hunter, but this was so far beyond simple rifles and shotguns, he hadn't really felt too comfortable doing much with it, It would be better to have Sean look at it, and then maybe figure out just what all the weapon, and perhaps the ammunition could do. "Hey Sean, it's Cade, you home?" In his other hand he had two pizzas, a meatlovers for himself, and one with pepperoni, bacon, green olives, and mushrooms for Sean.
  18. Cade Allister Cade is on steroids, how else could he have set the records he set in track practice? Cade is the latest victim of the Terror Twins, the Jauntsens. Their debauchery has claimed one of the last innocent souls in Shelly High. Cade is dating Marissa to make Lilly Pryor Jealous. All the squirrels in the area are slave to Cade's will. Cade's actually a genius, he just chooses to only apply himself to sports to give everyone else a chance. Dating women is a sham, Cade is secretly in a forbidden relationship with Mr. Bancroft. The Allister family has "A Past" Mr. Bancroft is a criminal mastermind, living off his last big score. Hiring the son of the sheriff is just ironic camoflage. Ian Allister isn't Cade's real dad. Cade's mother learned something she shouldn't have, this is why she died. Cade's actually a superpowered alien hiding his power in a small Montana town. Cade hired the guys who beat Liam Day
  19. I was planning on Cade doing some fishing, first by himself, then he'd invite the Fellowship to come along after having a really good trip. He's fine with being told no, but it is somewhere they're basically alone, free to be themselves. It's good to do something simple together in his mind, without having to worry about everything else going. For Labor Day, The Allister family will have a big cookout, and Cade would extend the invitation to any of the Fellowship who don't have plans with their family to come over for some good food.
  20. What should have been easily dodged attacks were not, as Chaos was trying to focus on defending against Therion and Ryan. In a moment of hesitation, he was struck by both of Yuuki's attacks, which bound him in vines, letting both Ryan and Therion strike him, the former hitting four times. It was impressive, and any lesser foe would have been blown away and sliced to ribbons. It didn't go that way though. unleashing a blast of magic in a sphere around him, Chaos blew away the vines binding him, sent Therion and Ryan flying, the latter blasted into a tree which splintered into veritable toothpicks afterwards. Ryan was coughing up blood, having not been hit that hard in some time.. "Perhaps I cannot kill you directly with spells, sworddancer, but there's always more than one way to get somebody." Chaos seemed so utterly smug and self-assured with having blasted away the two primary threats. It was then that Vesper chose to unleash her unique power, a blast at the very mind of Chaos itself. She could feel her energy replenish, and Chaos screamed as the shadow creatures faltered momentarily in their battle against the elementals.
