Esteban is watching the ancient nova like a hawk, or in this case a falcon. He is very interested in what is going on and will use Q-Attunement while the old man is using his power. He will let others search his person but will wait until Zhenglai can download him the information he requested in case impersonating himproves useful. We could even take his Jeep! Of course we will give it all back when we leave... ::biggrin

Uhh....BN? Brandt took the rangers belt(including radio), and currently has it slung over his shoulder.

After confirming that the ranger was indeed only passed out, he quickly undid the man's uniform belt and threw it over one shoulder while Johnathan and Zhenglai were talking.

I should know this, but I'm working off of memory. The range of the gate is something like 100 km, right? Or was it 1000 km?
It's about 100 miles from the location in Selma. There's a few other caveats (ground level, certain amount of open space, size of the incoming gate. etc) but nothing you need to worry about to dial out.

Basically, the outer fringes of the Bay Area on in range on a straight line. IIRC so is Monterey, Bakersfield, but LA is just outside the range.

(BTW, I just got back from spending the weekend in Vegas bringing stuff to the in-laws. One of the big casino fountains froze solid overnight. And there was still ice on the sidewalk at 11am! Insane for the desert!)

You know, if Bush wanted to regain some popularity right now, he'd make global warming a policy initiative he supports. Whatever happened to that, anyway? The liberals have been promising us global warming for years, but it's still damned cold out!

You still see the group of you sitting around the table at what looks like an embassy or an office meeting room, but this time you can see the ocean out of a window.

Um...what happened here? I was specifically trying to see what the Mexican novas would look like and what they would do if we allowed ourselves to be found. I could understand if I didn't roll enough successes to see that far into the future, but since Zhenglai saw an office scene it's pretty obvious that I rolled enough successes to see *further* into the future. That's great, but why does Zhenglai keep skipping ahead with his visions when that happens? I didn't take an uncontrollable or otherwise modified form of Pretercog, so if I only need 3 successes (just a random number) to see a particular event that I'm trying to see, and I roll 4, I don't think it should work that I suddenly and inexplicably skip ahead a day or month or whatever. That would be "uncontrolled". It should work that I get an even clearer and more easily interpreted vision of the period I'm trying to see instead.

Mind you, I'm not mad or anything. I'm just very confused and a little disappointed because it seems to be very hard to get a look at the specific point in time that I want to see. Either Zhenglai doesn't roll enough successes and I can't, or I roll too many and I skip right past what I wanted to see, which doesn't seem right.

Feedback? Corrections? Explanations?

Actually Global warming doesn't neccesarily translate to warmer local conditions. Im not too savvy with the actual science involved, but I think we feel cold on the West coast due to the currents coming down from Alaska.

The East coast and much of western Europe is actually fairly warm despite its distance from the equator, because warm water moves up the "North-Atlantic Conveyor" currents from the equator.

The idea of gloabl warming is that it melts enough of the polar ice caps and the effect is like melting ice cubes in soup. Not only are the global coastlines affected by the rising oceans, but the effect of enough cold water can essentially slow down or stop the convective currents carrying warmth northward.

This was sensationalized in the movie "the day after tommorow" but the science behind it is very real. In fact...in spite of what conservative politicians want us to believe, global warming as a fact is no longer in dispute by the scientific community...the evidence is pretty solid at this point.

I actually remember in early 2004 when the first concrete report came out on the north atlantic conveyer getting messed up. Im not sure if it would be as severe as the later movie made it seem, but it would most definitely create widespread changes in gloabl climate and pretty much everything north of and including the UK gets wiped out with massive cold.

...thats the funny thing about ecology...one of the primary tenets of the still fairly nascent science is that it can be altogether counter-intuitive on the holistic level, ie that global warming could lead to an ice age...

The Adventure and Nprime games are totally unconnected but I have a feeling maybe Alex, who is also in the Nprime game thought to suggest it for Trans-D cuz it was already on his mind....Still wierd though...

Sorry, I thought that was specific. I'll try and do better next time, I guess....

I try and avoid pinning you down as ST to something too specific, but at the same time there are certain results that I'm hoping for. I did state in my request that Zhenglai was trying to get a good look at their pursuers and how they would act in the future, though I admit that "the most likely outcome" part is a little vague.

Let me rephrase that a little.

Please put any specific requests in the OOC brackets when you write "Pretercog roll, please." I'm prone to miss things when I'm replying in a hurry, like I was then.

Also, I have gotten an awesome sketch of Michal, which I will post when I leave the convention and have access to a scanner.

Nope, sorry. Without cable or dish or anything, the kiddies watch the VCR and basically that's it.

We think about getting cable sometimes but the problem is I don't see where we'd get the time.

Sorry, I should have been more clear. Paul isn't mocking him. He made a name for himself, and did so successfully. Paul's attempt fell flat, and all he ended up with is a silly title. DoJ's title is actually respected... at least in his own head.

IIRC, Vegas was originally settled by Mormons. Given that this universe split off two centuries before that was founded ... no Mormons, no Vegas.

As for Spain, you could just as easily warp to anywhere else in Europe, as long as you pick somewhere historical that would probably still exist in the modern era here. Mostly I say this because I had the hilarious mental image of Simon, in full Obsidian Mask, stepping through into the middle of Stonehenge in front of a bunch of tourists, saying "Boo" in that third-person menacing voice, and watching them all scream and run. ::laugh

,,,,((OOCly it doesn't say in the warp description, but I assume you could just try the warping equivalent of "telepirting blind" without the usual complications that teleport has because you are only opening a warp...Of course you may decide you want Mask to be different in which case you are probably due some weakness levels. Up to you.))
