From page 11 of Heritage's Trans-D thread ...

an Engineer, Specialist Judy Kapriski,

So I think Vlad is higher rank than I. Unless I got promoted for surviving? ::thumbup1

Oh, and Heritage, I have a question - if I need to roll Engineering with my Matter Creation, do I get the bonus dice from Engineering Prodigy? ::w00t

I might have to bend my rules about continuity, because it would not be fair for Judy to be so far below the other PCs. So here's what I've done: using my powers as ST and EON moderator, I've added three new specialist ranks, which can now be seen in the rank chart in the Goodies thread (forgive my editing, Asbjorn ::blush).

Specialists are now broken down into three tiers: Specialist Class One (SPEC1, Rank*), Specialist Class Two (SPEC2, Rank**) and Senior Specialist (SRSPEC, Rank***). As of now, Judy and Vlad are SRSPECs (not unlike Master Chief warrant officers) and Jubersky back at X4 is a SPEC2. I should have done this a long time, and I hope this doesn't confuse things. All this being said, you'd still be considered NCOs, which means that any one ranked LT or higher is still your superior, even if on paper your still both Rank***. On a fun side note, we can all call you guys 'chief', which I think is cool ::wink

If it's something that would benefit from Engineering, then yes, so for complicated systems like a short wave radio, not things like chairs or dominos.

Does Rourke look like a nova?

Good question - he doesn't have any taint or any overt physical attributes like wings or tentacles, but he does have a Quantum score above 1, so I think those who know novas would pick up on it, plus he doesn't have Dormancy.

Any thoughts, Archer?

The best way I can describe it is that, appearance-wise, he just seems more-than-human. In my mind, his presence radiates ruggedness and masculinity on a John Wayne level; at least that's how I imagine him.

However, he hasn't done anything obviously nova-like; no use of powers or anything...and the Greens were told that Permafrost has no native nova inhabitants, so that might slow down any assumptions that Rourke is indeed a nova.

But I've got no problem with anyone who has a good IC reason or Mega-Per enough to realize something IS different with this guy.

If we've ever heard of "Permafrost" ::sly

Sounds pretty nova-ish to me. ::wink

You mean, other than hanging out with the other novas, going on missions with them, having insight and/or experiences beyond those of mortal man, AND having an appearence that is extremely unusual for a baseline? ::laugh

And then we have the issue of Quantum 2+ on top of that, and if we go back to the core rules, increasing Quantum (not Taint) also makes someone look other than baseline.

We, um, are getting orders ... right?

Because there's only so long Judy can wait before she gets bored. Dominoes are just the beginning. When she was in the bomb squad as a baseline she once set up hip flasks full of nitroglycerine in a domino pattern just to see what would happen when they all got knocked down.

Don't worry, I've got you covered - I just did the next big X4 post, so now it's Bravo's turn. I have a few errands to run, but I hope to post at least one more time before bed.

As a serious OOC rules question, can a nova with Matter Creation (ie, Judy) choose to ... 'dispel' her created items sooner than the time limit imposed by her power rating? I'm running on the assumption of 'yes' (so that the dominoes all vanished when they left the table, rather than hanging around for a few hours).

I'm imagining the fun that could be had by tossing live grenades and dispelling them before they explode. ::devil

Speaking of Quetzalcoatl, considering he/it is part of Vlad's cultural background, I'm assuming he created similar statues in the past. Meaning this isn't him designing this totally from scratch with a moments notice... but hopefully it does give that illusion. Similarly, this is "pulling his punch" a great deal considering the volume of material.

And now, a word from your Storyteller:

Hi, everyone - Heritage here, with just a bit of a head's up. Things are about to dark and rather nasty for a while in War Journal, so I just wanted to take a moment to say I hope no one is put off or upset by things to come. I once gave one of my players nightmares by going too far, and I don't want to repeat that, but I also don't want to shy away from reality.

This is a game about, in part, war, and though the war has figured prominently in many of your characters backstories, it really hasn't directly affected anyone in gameplay too much; mostly we've been fighting ourselves.::sly That is about to change - the war is gonna climb out of the monitor screen and sit in your lap, and it's gonna happen any second now.

At its core, I believe that this game is about hope, not despair, but sometimes you have to turn out the lights in order to see hope shining brightly, like a tiny star that will never be extinguished. So when things look their bleakest, keep your eyes on that star; let its light fill your vision, until all you see is dawn.

(The preceding message brought to you by Calvin Klein's Pretension for Storytellers, a fragrance for men and women.)

You don't have to tell me about it. ::brick I was up until like 3 myself watching Equilibrium with some friends, which by the way, was one of the best movies I've ever seen. ::cool

And I watched Flesh Gordon, one of the best worst movies I've seen*...

"Good lord Flesh, they're dykes!" ::tongue

Back to work this week though...aww...

*Must be seen with lots of buddies late at night...late...and/or inebriated...

P.S. Can't wait for Havoc to get out of the shltter...C'mon Cataclysm of DOOM, c'mon! ::wink
