Aberrant: Stargate Universe - A Night of Kiki Nass [Fin]

Forge

Recommended Posts

The last night of leave found Vinny nursing his third straight bottle of vodka. Had it been anyone else, Mac would have cut him off, but to be honest, Mac was kinda scared of the guy. Even so, Vinny had found it necessary to 'pour himself' the last bottle when Mac wasn't looking.

He was doing his damndest to get drunk, and was only succeeding at making his trips to the gawd-awful pisshole of Kiki Nass more frequent.

Vinny looked around at the place from his vantage at the bar, trying to see who was the likely target to get him his next bottle.

Fuckin' posers.

The bar was nice enough, a country bar, like many are in Colorado, but had a neutral enough atmosphere to keep the hardcore 'cowboy up' crowd away. There was no line-dancing by any means. Darts, pool, the occasional live band, a bar that attempted to appease all and succeeded at being relatively mediocre.

The crowd tonight was good for there not being any music, though the jukebox was blasting away. Most of the booths were already filled with various cliques, ranging from a group of Airmen to a table of giggling college chicks.

The door opened, and familiar faces came in - and one familar ass. Olivia Jenings-Izumi came in backwards, laughing at something one of her companions behind her said. She spun around quickly enough, taking in the room with a sweep of her dark, discerning eyes. Oh, ugh, Vinny, she sighed to herself, then resolved to not let him ruin her fun. It's not like he's going stare...

She looked down at herself, and at the sexy threads she was wearing. Kyria was looking just as hot; knowing that the other woman was going to be dressed as risquely as herself was the only thing that had gotten Olivia into these clothes. That and the knowledge that she looked smokin' in them.

The dark, almost black pants weren't leather, but something else soft and clingy with just a hint of shine to them. The black boots were leather and gave her another couple of inches as well as adding a bit more shape to her calves and butt. Neither was too bad, though the pants were tight enough that she'd had to wear a thong for the first time in her life. No, it was the shirt that was the naughty part, and there wasn't much she could do to change that at the moment. She was a little relieved that she'd shied away from a couple of the tops that practically came with a sign: Trolling for cheap sex. This one was merely sexy - she hoped. She'd never worn anything like this in her life; she hadn't had the body for it before. For all she knew, it might be saying that she was a big ol' ho.

The shirt, but she's wearing it in silver.

Regardless, she knew one thing: Vinny was totally going to stare, even if he did it when she wasn't looking. Hell, some of the people she'd come with were probably going to stare. It wasn't like the guys now looking across the room weren't already staring. She wasn't that pretty, but with the augmentations that the Artifact had made to her body, she was worth a long, hard look.

Maybe this was a bad idea. Even if it was a good one, she needed some fortification. She headed for the bar and said, "Two Coronas, please." She offered a five dollar bill and got two bottles. With a smile, she turned to the other woman and handed one to Kyria. "Welcome to beer."

The door opened again, letting in some cool night air and a figure wearing a white t-shirt that accentuated, rather than hid, the powerful shoulders or broad chest beneath it. A Ranger tattoo was clearly visible on the left arm under the tanned skin as the bearded, somewhat shaggy-looking man glanced around the bar once, his eyes hidden by sleek silvery Raybans. Faded blue jeans and a pair of well-worn combat boots completed the ensemble. The man screamed 'soldier out of uniform' to the civilians present, though they probably wondered why the beard and longer than usual hair. The military folks present wondered if he was maybe a Special Forces type; they tended to grow their hair out.

Dec pocketed the keys to the jeep and moved with exaggerated caution over to the bar, catching up with Kyria and Livy. Despite his experiences getting acclimatised during the visit to Olivia's folks, the ex-Ranger was still a little twitchy about people invading his space. So his passage to the bar was delayed a little more as he went wide around, rather than brushing past, the knots of people.

Fuck, this was a bad idea. He was nervous. He still felt safest in the mountain base of SGC, surrounded by the military machine that enforced codes of behaviour. Even without his enhanced combat senses making him assess every loud noise and sudden movement as a potential threat, he felt uncomfortable around all these civilians. But when Kyria had announced blithely that she and Livy were going for a drink, and would he like to come, Dec had found it hard to say no. A fact he half-regretted now as he came up behind the two girls. Damn, but they were looking... well... yeah.

The two had just clinked bottles as Dec leaned up against the bar next to Kyria, passing a bill across to the barkeep. "Corona for me too." He told the man, and having received the drink, he turned and leaned back against the bar, idly scanning the crowd. Catching sight of Vinny, the Sergeant nodded once to the fellow Specialist before settling down and trying to relax. If he took any notice of the odd looks people were giving him for wearing shades indoors at night, he didn't show it.

Just for girly fun, Kyria's outfit (in deep red w/gold because purple looks horrid with red hair):
MTS2_lliella_261982_drapey3-b.jpg

"You came!" Kyria clinked bottles with the Sargent, looking pleased with herself for some reason. She sniffed the drink experimentally, obviously never having had a barley-based drink before, then shrugged and took a soldier-sized swig from the bottle.

She leaned back in an immitation of Declan and looked the bar over. "So, what exactly do you do at a bar? I've never been to one before."

"'Course I came." Dec grinned wryly. "I had to safeguard all the innocent men here from you two heartbreakers." From beind his sunglasses the sergeant smiled at Kyria, trying not to ogle at how the drape of her outfit clung to her body as she leaned against the bar. For that matter, Olivia's low neckline and bare shoulders were equally distracting. He remembered that Kyria was a mind-reader and schooled himself to concentrate on the question she'd asked.

"People come here to drink, play darts or pool, socialise, pick up partners." he told the young woman with a shrug. "Basically, to have a good time and raise a little hell. I used to go to these places all the time with my..." he paused for a second, his face going frighteningly blank for a heartbeat before resuming it's animation as he went on explaining as if nothing had happened. "My buddies."

Gwyn removed his crash helmet as he entered the bar and looked around the place.

Heh, reminds me of the bars in that Patrick Swayze movie - Roadhouse. Ahh, some of the others are here already.

Tucking the helmet under his arm he walked over to the bar to join Dec and the ladies.

Hmm, nice view, but better behave. After all their both Specialists and I'm not sure what Kyria's powers are, so best behaviour Gwyn.

Putting his helmet on the bar and leaning against it he addresses the barman.

"Evening, I don't suppose you got any Malt whiskey?"

"I'll have a look, but I don't remember any."

"Well if you do find any I'll have a double, and keep the bottle to hand. Oh, give me a draught Bud while your at it."

Turning he spots Vinny and nods to him before completing his turn to his team mates and Kyria.

"Dec, ladies. Nice to get a change from the base for a while. Anyone fancy a game of pool?"

"Yes!" Olivia said, grabbing Kyria's arm. "Come, I will teach you pool, and then you can began to beat me at the game." Looping her arm through the other woman's she began to walk her across the room. She glanced over her shoulder and arched an eyebrow at Declan. "Want to do boys on girls?"

And that was when her brain realized exactly what Kyria had said, and all the possibilities that might cover. Well. I'm going to have to inquire. Without letting the others know that I might have just given alcohol to a minor...

Vinny nodded to Dec and Gwyn, but his attention was all for Kyria and Olivia, he wasn't outright staring, but holding a bottle of Smirnoff did paint a lecherous portrait.

hubba hubba, oh wait, shit, they're telepaths.

Vinny pointedly looked nowhere but their faces, heard the mention of pool and started to move to the area to get a good vantage point before they even left the bar.

I gotta see this shit.

Caine walked into the bar wearing some of the clothes his step-sister had gotten him, a black T that had the words Mossberg Kick in red on the front, blue jeans, and suede boots that climbed halfway up his calves. He looked ... very unlike himself. His finely sculpted features and his chisled physique made more than a few heads turn. A table full of co-eds pointed and whispered. He had to be with somebody, didn't he.

Damien stopped and looked for Kyria. This was the place she had said to meet her. It was a harmless night out after all. He knew her age, and the depth of culture that seperated them. Well, almost.

He saw Kyria about the same time he spotted the others.

Oh hell's belles ... they are here.

Kyria saw him and waved. It was too late to leave.

Walking over he stopped by Jones,

"Gwyn, Kyria, Olivia, and Declan, what's up?"

Dec nearly choked on his beer, but managed to recover in time to make sure it went down the right pipe. Almost exactly what I had in mind, just not regardin' pool. he thought amusedly to himself. Damn, but he was starting to enjoy the evening more. He wasn't sure if that was a good thing or not.

What he wasn't really aware of was that his heart rate, which could tolerate a ten mile run without appreciably raising, was starting to spike upwards from arousal. Both women were attractive, both were familiar enough to the shy soldier that said shyness wasn't so much an issue. Add to this their clothing, and Livy's arch look back over a very attractive shoulder at him, and things were looking up, hormonally. So the world was coming into greater clarity for him. Colour was starting to flood into his awareness, the sounds, tastes and (most definitely) the sights were taking on heightened emotional context, almost exactly the same way they did when he was engaged in combat.

He grinned at Olivia and moved to follow, clapping Jones on the shoulder. "Come on, Gwyn. The gauntlet's been thrown down, boy." He caught up with the ladies in a few long strides, not as diffident as he usually was. He nudged Olivia with his elbow gently, still smiling. "Just so you don't think I'm gonna take it easy on ya. Last time I did that you nearly kicked my kneecap off."

Then Caine walked over, and Dec nodded to his CO. "Hey, Major. What's up? We were just gonna play some pool."

Kyria grinned up at Damien as Livy escorted her over to the pool table. "We're going to play pool. And apparently I'm going to be beating Livy at it, even though we're on the same team."

She laughed, took another swig from the Corona and set it down on a nearby table, then bounced back over to the pool table. "Okay, so.....how do you play?"

"Ok, Damien. You take my place, so it's still 2 vs 2, guys and gals. In the meantime I'll get you a beer and see if the barman has managed to find a bottle of Malt."

With that Gwyn heads back towards the bar, noting that Vinny has moved to watch the game as he goes.

As expected the bar didn't have any Malt Whiskey, so making do with a bottle of JD Gwyn heads back to the pool area with the drinks. Stopping next to Vinny on the way back.

"Hi, it looks like that game is full, fancy joining me for a game?"

He nods towards an adjacent vacant table.

Vinny stops watching what would be the beginning of a porno in anyone else's mind, but his fear of the mind-readers is keeping his focus above the neck.

He looks over at Gwyn, giving him a once-over.

Fancy?

"You late for the Village People reunion?--Fuck off, I don't swing that way fancy boy."

Vinny turned back to game, cocking one eyebrow as he took another long draw off the vodka bottle.

Oh hell Caine thought, going over all the possible things that could have led to this state between the two of them.

Well ...

"Call me Damien, Doctor - Caine if your angry. You can hit me tonight if you are so inclined. Kyria was nice enough to invite me out, she being new to the area. I didn't know the team would be here, but I would like the company. If you want me to leave, just say the word."

He tried hard not to sound hurt, really he did. Just because they could never be together was no reason for their relationship to become totally glacial.

"Nope, you're Kyria's guest," Olivia said, using her fingers to jam the balls tight in the plastic triangle. With studious concentration, she leaned over and lined the triangle up. Without being aware of what kind of image she was creating for the men's pleasure as she didn't usually wear shirts this low, she said, "I racked, you or Declan should break."

There was nothing glacial about the challenge, or the fire in her eyes, as she eased the triangle off the table and cleared the way for the ball-break.

Did he want to win, or did he want to throw the game?

"First game, Kyria? In that case, I'll give you some opportunity to play. I'm pretty good, but Declan would clean the table. With my buddy's approval," Damien looks to Declan for approval," I'll break."

With Declan's approval Caine lines up and after eyeing his position for a second, takes his shot. His shot is try and the balls go flying across the table. One drops.

"Colors," Caine calls out and begins pacing around the table. He gives a genuine smile to Kyria as he moves past her. He is more careful around Olivia and Why, oh why does she have to be looking so hot tonight when she clearly hates me now?

He lines up, leans gracefully over the table, and sinks another, and then another. A fourth ball goes down and then he misses. He stands up tall from the table and shakes his head.

"Okay, whose up?"

Livy waves Kyria up to the pool table. The young red-head studies the balls and their relationships very seriously for a minute or so, then takes her first shot.

The number 7 ball drops smoothly into a corner pocket, knocking the 11 ball into a perfect line-up with the right side pocket. She nearly skips around the table for the second shot, looking quite pleased with herself. Her third shot bounces an inch to the left of a corner hole.

She retires to the table she'd set her beer on and grins to Declan, "Your turn."

Gwyn obviously is angered by Vinny's comment, but reins it in and only makes some comments of his own as he goes past back to the pool game.

"Obviously you've never bothered safely riding a motorbike, but given your obvious oral fetish you're a hell of a lot more likely to be bent than me you ignorant gorilla twat."

Followed by more swearing under his breath in a mixture of Welsh, Latin and Arabic as he approaches the pool table.

Perault smiled back at the girl and winked, then turned to the pool table, idly spinning his cue in one hand. It was the first time he had played since before leaving the Army, and he focussed on the baize surface with the balls seemingly randomly scattered around the blue...

The world slowed.

No-not-random-Patterns-there-angles-of-attack-it's-so-easy-to-just-line-up-that-ball-there-and-spin-to-that-one...

To the watchers, the pool cue flipped faster around Perault's fingers as his shaded eyes studied the table for about fifteen seconds. The rest of him was very still, his face relaxed, composed. A few nearby obervers were paying closer attention as the cue started to spin as he twirled it. Dec didn't even notice, intent on the crystalline images playing out in his vision. He also saw Caine start to frown, Olivia watching with a fading smile, Kyria's brows furrowing curiously as they all sensed something happening.

..its-motion-whole-pattern-motion-that-goes-there-and-then-to-that-ball-and-finally-the-black-now-shoot!

He stepped to the table, bending down in one sinuous motion and, seeming not even to aim struck the white. The ball ricocheted off the first colour in it's path with a loud crack, spinning to the side as the 1 ball twirled into the rear left corner pocket. The white rebounded off the 5 then, sending it careening with a rattling sound into the center right. Jaws dropped amongst the human watchers as the white, momentum undiminished as it counterspun to the side, colliding with the purple solid and sending it, too, into the rear left pocket before bouncing off two cushions and finally hitting the 8-ball with enough force to send the black firmly rolling towards the center left pocket at a torturous pace. People held their breath, watching wide-eyed as Dec turned away and picked up his beer before turning back to the table, raising it to his lips and shooting his friends a wink as the black slowly, oh so slowly, tipped into the pocket.

Jaunt stepped through the open doorway into the smokey atmosphere of the Kiki Nass. What a piss hole. Jaunt thought as he looked about.

He sure didn't belong in a western bar wearing a black shirt, matching pants, and a purple designer long coat. On him it sure did look sexy, but it gave him the appearance of yuppy trash in a seedy country bar. He was so gonna get shit from the Jarheads about it, he knew it, and that was fine, because he could fight six or seven now and not break a sweat. As long they weren't Perault.

A few ladies took more than a single look, which he certainly didn't mind but he did stop to talk. He spotted a few he recognized and wandered over.

"Hey, Kyria." He said over the music. Oh wow, she looks so good tonight... please God, if you don't hate me completely, don't let her hear that I said that. "Thanks for the invite."

He smiled and backed away not wanting to get in the middle of the game of Billiards.

"Uh, hey guys." He looked about at everyone assembled. He tried not to look at Olivia, but his libido grew an extra set of eyes. Oh man, Izumi, wow... I. Love. This. Job.

His eyes shot to Kyria... he so hoped she did hear that too.

"Alright," Olivia said, her lips compressed. She picked up the triangle and walked to Declan, pushing it against his chest. She had a mock-irritated scowl on her face, but it was clearly all fake. She was teasing - or the less subtle in the crowd, flirting. "I don't care if you won. You're racking this time, so that I get a chance to play."

She gave Jaunt a wave and a quick "Hey" after Dec had taken the triangle from her. She still wasn't sure about him, but he was a teammate, and she'd give him a chance.

Declan grinned at Olivia from behind his shades as she poked him with the triangle. "Told you I wouldn't be takin' it easy on ya." he said softly as he reached up to take the plastic shape. His fingers brushed hers as he did so, and in his heightened state of awareness it felt electric. His smile faded for a brief moment before he recovered and turned towards the table, starting to rack the balls.

"Best out of three?" he asked Kyria and Livy with a sly smile. "Or do you ladies think you'll need more?"

He nodded over at Jaunt. "Hey kid." The sergeant's usual grim face was more animated tonight: animated enough to smirk slightly as he saw a chance to needle the teenage pain in the ass. "Nice coat."

Declan had destroyed them, as predicted. He had destroyed them with a BIG WOW. It wasn't his natures to not succeed. He walked around to Declan as the big man was racking the balls. In a not-quite whisper,

"Dec, from time to time it is customary to let the pretty ladies win. It has to do with the elegance of the game, and how each shot is made."

It also had to do with watching pretty ladies in sexy outfits take shots. It was something he had learned in college.

When Declan called out to the kid, Caine's head whipped around.

The kid is here, in a bar, on his watch.

"Hey Jaunt ... -son."

Damn, the kid needed a new name - a first name.

"Come on over and join the party."

What was that? Olivia thought as she marched over to get her beer. She tipped it back and - again unaccustomed to how this would look to the hungrily watching men - pulled hard on the neck, swallowing it fast. "I'm reloading," she said to no one in particular. "If you want me to get something, speak up." She took any orders when she went to the bar, and came back with a Jack -n- Coke.

She hadn't cut loose in a while, and after her week with her parents, she planned to indulge tonight.

"Thanks," he told Declan.

"So uhh... what's going on?" He asked. Having never been to a bar before, and never out with people even less than never, Jaunt did his best.

He wasn't shy or scared, just out of place among everyone having a good time.

Gwyn downs his 2nd slug of JD, and notices that it isn't having it's usual effect when Jaunt arrives.

"Hi Jaunt"

Having caught the tail end of Dec incredible shot and hearing the asshole Vinny's bet on the game, Gwyn's sense of fairplay kicks in, so he makes a suggestion.

"Perhaps it would even things up if Damien and Jaunt take the next round?"

"I don't care," Olivia said easily. "I think that Vinny specifically wants to make the gentlemen already at the table look like girly-girls. You guys figure it out - I'm going to take my shot."

She really shouldn't encourage Vinny. She should give him the hairy eyeball and ignore him for a while, like until the sun burnt to a crisp. But he'd put money, real money, not five bucks on her. And to be honest, it was on her. That smile wasn't for Kyria, it was for her.

Idly, she wondered how someone like Vinny would handle being her CO, and having more than COly feelings for her. She didn't think that he was the type to ignore what he was feeling. Of course, she could be wrong, she speculated as she chalked the stick she'd chosen, he could have an old-growth redwood up his ass too.

She gave the stick one more layer of chalk with a twist of her hand, then blew the excess away with a puff of air from pursed red lips. She didn't ask Kyria if she could go first; that was assumed after her remark to Declan.

She leaned over the table and broke the balls with a solid shot. A ball sank slowly, and Kyria peeked in. "Stripes," she announced cheerfully.

Olivia nodded and sighted down on the next ball, the one-ball, hanging on precariously to the lip of another hole. Olivia snapped the pool stick - and moved the one to the other bumper of the hole. "Darn it," Olivia muttered, straightening and turning to Kyria. "It's up to you." Unless Declan shoots next. Then it's up to no one. I need to get these mugs into a game of Trival Pursuit someday.

"Declan, how about Jaunt taking your slot this time around - make it a bit more sporting. You and the Kid can have round three."

Caine came around the table and lined up a few shots as was his normal style. He carefully took his chosen position and was momentarily distracted by Olivia moving. He barely noticed her stop in front of his position ... until she bent over ... right in front of him. That silver little thing holding her shirt together acted like a rifle sight to her cleavage.

Caine felt uncomfortable. Unwelcome stirring went on below the belt. He licked his lips and tasted sweat. This was NOT good. He shouldn't be feeling that way toward a fellow team mate. No way, no how.

Damn, that looked good, and inviting, and he thought this on several levels - even the married ones.

He shot, finally. It wasn't pretty, but it did the job. Olivia pouted and stood up. Caine thought he had a reprieve, but it wasn't to be. Again, once he had carefully lined up, that silver bullseye was in his sights, not the ball. He could see a fine sliver of sweat passing down between ...

Yeah, he missed. He lowered his head onto the table and and faux-cried. He couldn't bring himself to look at Olivia when he brought his head - his whole body - up.

"Kyria, your turn."

He handed his cue to Jaunt and declared, "I need some Black Label."

A waitress intecepted him before he could get to the bar, took his order and gave him a good looking over. Caine would have noticed if he wasn't busy looking back to the table.

Kyria finished off her beer while Livy and Damien took thier shots. She was a little surprised at how much more effort this game seemed to be for the Major, and how much more interested Livy seemed.

She shrugged and grabbed her pool cue, dusting the end of it in the same manner Livy had and then lined up her first shot. The five ball fell perfectly into a side pocket and she lined up her second shot. Her mind worked over the angles and relationships of the game, at the same time putting together at least some understanding of her partners new 'tactics' for winning. A small mischevious grin that, of all the people in the room, only Jaunt knew the danger of, crept into her smile.

She leaned over the table, her second shot landing the eleven ball in the other side pocket, and when she stood up her shirt resettled itself. The neckline was lower now, though it may have been that way from the start and had simply been riding high across her shoulders. There was definite cleavage to be seen though, and that was all that mattered to at least the regulars of Kiki Nass.

She made a face at the table, not liking the angels presented to her. Her third shot was more about move the cue ball around the table than any attempt to sink a ball. She stode over to Jaunt, tossing him her pool cue and grinning at him.

"You're up."

Dec nodded his agreement to Caine's suggestion and sat the game out, grabbing a chair from nearby and lounging back, beer in hand. He was thinking over what the Major had said to him, his elation at his spectacular shot turning a little sour in his mouth.

Really, what did it accomplish? he mused. I just cleaned the table in one shot... And ruined the game for everyone else. It was so easy for me. But if I hadn't given it my best shot, wouldn't that be insultin'? Fuck. Mebbe I should stay away from games like that and just kibbitz. Yeah. He hunkered down further in his seat, broad shoulders slumping as he stared off into space, totally missing the show the two ladies were putting on to distract their opponents. It's fairer that way.

"...Hey. Hey bro." He was aware someone was trying to get his attention and looked around to see a man and girl smiling at him. The guy gave him a thumbs-up. "That was a bitchin' shot, dude. Totally awesome. How'd you do that?"

Dec stared at the younger guy expressionlessly for a few moments from behind his shades before answering "It's nothin' really." He meant it, too. There was no false modesty - it had been nothing. As easy as fastening his zipper. He turned away to stare off into space again, wondering how he could regret not missing a pool shot.

Gwyn sat on a spare table close to Dec and offered him the bottle of JD. Once the two who had approached Dec had moved on he turns to him and says.

"Nice shot, I could see how to take it myself, but I'm not sure I have enough control to successfully make it. Don't worry yourself about it Olivia knows how good you are, and would probably get pissed out you if you hadn't done your best. I know, its a no-win, but life can be like that. Especially where women are concerned, heh?"

Vinny watched as she prepped her cue, the blowing of excess chalk happening in slow motion to the beat of Yello's "Oh Yeah"

Vinny momentarily forgot the mind-reading capability of the two women as his mind dove head-first into the gutter as he watched Kyria take her shots.

'bah-bah...oooohhh yeah....bah-bah'

Olivia moved around the table, in an odd dance with Caine, obviously toying with him, giving all who cared to pay any attention a great show.

This woman fuckin' rocks!

It didn't take long before Vinny was shifting uncomfortably, trying to reposition his raging hard-on inside his tight jeans without making it too blatantly obvious.

Olivia pumped her fist just a little in victory as Caine collapsed onto the table. Giggling, she backed off to give Kyria room to make her shoots.

Time for stage two.

Olivia dropped into the chair next to Declan. "Hi," she said, smiling like the cat looking at the cream. "Wanna help me beat the Major?" She put a hand on his arm and leaned in to whisper, "All I need is a bit of advice on how to make my next shot." Her dark eyes blinked at him pleadingly.

Jaunt suddenly piped up, holding a pool cue in his hand. "I'm sorry, caught none of the last few minutes. I blacked out into a happy place of booty an boobs."

He pointed to the cue. "Am I supposed to do something with this? Am I up... or what?"

If Olivia had cozied up on his shoulder and whispered her request in his ear from a range of two millimetres, Dec's heart wouldn't have jumped to much higher a gear. Livy felt the arm tense under her hand as his eyebrows shot up over the Raybans, then his free hand came up, tugging down the shades a fraction as he dipped his head towards her in an expression of surprise and curiousity. His eyes...

His eyes were different, the normally tiny pupils dilated so wide that his eyes seemed like black holes ringed with a thin band of silver as he studied her. They didn't seem dead now to her. Not at all.

"Uh... yeah. I can do that." he swallowed a trifle nervously and turned to look at the table as Kyria took her shots. That view wasn't much better for the hypersensitised nerves currently humming away like a power generator. The universe was slowing down again, the crystalline colours coming into focus as he turned back to Livy. He could make out every hue of the sparkle in her eyes, watched the oh-so-slow movements of her chest as she breathed, and took in the smooth skin of her throat as the full awareness of her hit him in the libido like a freight train. "Let... let me go... uh... answer a call. Yeah. I'll be back by the time the kid's taken his shot."

He stood up too fast, his hand setting the half-empty bottle of Corona down in a blur before he realised what was happening. He slowed himself down, tried to make it look casual as he nodded to her with a smile. "Be right back, okay?" He made his way over to the gents, his heartbeat thudding in his ears like a bass drum on overdrive. A small knot of airmen were almost brushed aside as he walked through them, shooting the asshole Ranger's back filthy looks as they recovered their balance.

In the bathroom Dec opened the window wide, leaning against the mesh that covered the opening and trying to calm himself. The world was too sharp, too clear, too colorful. He felt like crying as he realised that this was almost exactly the same sensation he experienced when fighting or stalking. Cold. Cold is good. He turned to the sink and hurriedly filled it with water, aware of the *bomp-bomp* of his heart slowing a little. With a twist, he turned off the cold tap, held his breath, leaned down, and plunged his face into the icy water.
