CIC BS: Valkyrie
I posted the stats for the Admiral and the Battlestar Valkyrie. That should give you something to compare. Once I've approved your PC you can submit the sheet directly in the Protagonists section using the same format.I will add more during the day and week, depending on how fast I can do this at work. Michael Peters
I have a solid idea for my XO from Picon, but I'm having a hard time coming up with a name. I never followed the new series, but I've looked up the characters and they seem to have a wide selection of non-standand and interesting names. Can anyone suggest a good naming convention.
CIC BS: Valkyrie
Try Greek or Egyptian first names that haven been anglicised and combine those with "normal" surnames. But to be honest - there are no naming conventions - so everything that has a nice "ring" to it goes. You should emphasis on your surname, since that's what people are going to call you most of the time.Col. Hayes, or Col. Bromsky, Col. McKenzie, Col. O'Neill - something that is memorable I suppose.Maybe someone else has a nice idea?
SalmonMax
I like names that have an easy nickname. My character, Cpt Melara Richter can be called "Mel," for lulz.
CIC BS: Valkyrie
I'm planning to get the game started by upcoming monday. I'd appreciate it very much, if you would be ready with your characters till then. If anyone needs some help, please PM me.So say we all!
Callsign Bedrock
No guns on the Raptor? Ut oh.
CIC BS: Valkyrie
nope - only countermeasures and DRADIS Equipment. They are not supposed to engage in combat. A Raptor is Jump Capable which is a huge advantage to the Viper.
Callsign Bedrock
Guess I better take those Ship's Guns skill points off, then. I coulda sworn I've seen Raptors shooting guns.
CIC BS: Valkyrie
That's ok with me if you want to shift those points. The game hasn't started officially yet... and I'm sorry for the delay but there's still some stuff I like to post oocly before we get really started. In the meantime feel free to ask questions and exchange yourselves.
Michael Peters
I noticed that there is no disadvantage for having lost a limb, or being scarred is there any chance we could put one together?
SalmonMax
Well, he'd be Memorable with a cyber arm and a big scar.
Michael Peters
I took the Ugly disadvantage at d2, but do that have cyber limbs in Battlestar Galactica?
CIC BS: Valkyrie
There are no cybernetics in BSG-RPG. The game itself claims to be "retro futuristic", so there are things very sci-fi for us and others that you'll find common even to nowadays standards. The real Hi-Sci-Fi tech is reserved to the Cylons and that is only limited compatible with humans. So I can't offer anything there. The Ugly Complication sounds applicable if you want to have some sort of disfigurement. Just make sure it's nothing that impedes you from doing your job properly (they would've retired you otherwise). A lost limb would have you put out of active duty. What did you have in mind?
Jhonen Erasmus
Ouch, lost limb equals forced retirement? I was imagining Erasmus on the bridge of the Valkyrie, one sleeve pinned back, burn scars down the left side of his face, looking like a serious badass.Guess I'll have to think about this... hmmmm... SalmonMax
Yar...serious injuries that can't be healed would mean an honorable discharge. Or at the very least a reassignment away from combat duties. You need both arms in a crisis, goes the thought. Having a serious physical impairment doesn't just put you in jeopardy, it puts everyone in jeopardy. CIC BS: Valkyrie
ok - I apologise yet again, but I'm still working on writing background stuff and setting information for you all. Whoever is able can watch the Episode "Hero" from Season 2. It will give you a general idea of what this game will be about. Don't make too many assumptions though If you want to have some background NPCs fleshed out feel free to create them using the stats for Starting characters/recruits. I'll be providing the major NPCs of course. You're all going to be aware that Operation Bifrost is a special assignment with Top Secret background. More details to be revealed soon. Dawn OOC
According to TWoP and Wikipedia, "Hero" was in Season 3. Is this the one you mean?If it is, since I was digging it up, I thought I'd provide links for the sites I found. For those who want a light synposis, here's Wikipedia's blurb. If you want the in-depth analysis, Television Without Pity does a FANTASTIC review of all the BSG episodes.
CIC BS: Valkyrie
Thank you Dawn - it was my bad. I do mean Season 3 and the part most important is the following part of the synopsis:Quote:Later in a meeting with President Roslin, Roslin asks for more details on Novacek's situation, where Adama informs her that Novacek was a pilot for a black op mission when Adama was in command of the Battlestar Valkyrie. Adama was sent to the Tauron colony who were violating the Cylon Peace Treaty by mining tylium on a planet that was too close to the Armistice Line. Novacek was on a recon mission but the Taurons shot him down, and Adama states he didn't know that Novacek had survived. After Novacek leaves, Roslin becomes suspicious and asks Adama to tell her what really happened. Adama tells her to "trust" him on this one and he'll handle it.Thumbs up for your great research! CIC BS: Valkyrie
Minor update - I sent you all PMs with background info on the situation. Game will start soon but I try to add some examples of play and an explanation on Plot Points before we lift off.I just edited the entry for Admiral Kerrington and provided a picture to give you a general feeling of how he looks like. The Acronyms, Jargon and Lingo thread gets updated regularly until I've reached the letter Z.I'll try to add some pictures of the Vessels and Crafts till the weekend. If you find some useful resources please share your knowledge!
z-Agrippina Solas
Here's a link to The Battlestar Wiki, which is exactly what it sounds like. It looks pretty thorough.
CIC BS: Valkyrie
Ok folks, the game has started. I'm still going to update the background sections, the Fleet thread and the Protagonists thread "as we play" and I hope that's fine with you guys. Adding every single NPC would have blown the frame of my capabilities. If you have any NPCs you'd like to be more detailed than please tell me and we add him/her to the thread. I will add more NPCs on a spot as needed by the story. I hope you're liking it and please share your thoughts here if you are insecure about certain game specifics. I'll try to add some mechanics tomorrow with some examples of play and an explanation on Plot Points. As for now just know that you all have Plot Points that you can spent to either enhance rolls (even after you rolled, but that is less effective) or to "edit" the story to your needs. The latter is up to me to agree on and the more dramatic the "edit" is, the more Plot Points it will cost you. Plot Points will be awarded for good RPing, dramatic scenes and will be handed out just as quick as you spent them. This should keep the "heros" of the story always on an advantage just like in the series. Now - lets get this rolling
CIC BS: Valkyrie
I'm sorry for my absence the last two days. I had some rough RL-Issues which kept me from posting or even check the forums. I'm catching up with you folks tomorrow - sorry for the delay!---BTW - I have updated the Fleet-Thread with pictures of the Major crafts. The stats for the Valkyrie, the cruisers and the destroyers need readjustment though. I found out some interesting details of Colonial Fleet designs which should be reflected in the stats. Basically every Military Vessel has at least a squadron or two of Vipers and Raptors on board with similar Flight Decks like the Battlestars. The Battlestars are only specialised as carrier vessels. That shouldn't influence the current situation much but it will in future since your resources are going to be limited once the cylon attack comes. CIC BS: Valkyrie
I adjusted a few stats of the capital ships after my research on the various ships has revealed that there is virtually no military craft that hasn't at least one or two squadrons of fighter planes on board. I had to change the stats of the Valkyrie, too - basically all changes are to your advantage in case of a war
CIC BS: Valkyrie
@Callisto - I'm giving you a chance to respond to Deadbolt and change your command. The Raptor could help identify the bogeys but it takes a risk should they turn out to be hostile. It's your call.
SalmonMax
lol...always nice to look like an idiot in the first mission. Oh well.Given that ships can literally appear out of nowhere in BSG, it seems pretty remiss for an escort to leave the escortee. Hopefully the Raptor can ID the bogeys from outside effective weapon range. I'll post.
CIC BS: Valkyrie
Originally Posted By: SalmonMaxlol...always nice to look like an idiot in the first mission. Oh well. That wasn't my intention - it's kinda difficult to GM stuff like this without giving some small details that are ooc. I suppose we'll have to learn on the way since the system is also new to me and very much is kept to GM freedom to decide (most ship designs for example). SalmonMax
HeeNo no, it wasn't your fault at all. I screwed up OOC, and so I screwed up IC. It happens. No blame attaches to you.
CIC BS: Valkyrie
Currently Fox's Ship is the next capital Military ship that can actually try to make a jump within range of the drifting colonial vessels. All other ships of the fleet are too far away and would take several minutes before they could even plot a jump (I grant Fox the advantage of acting quickly on instinct and he was the one taking head for the perimeter patrol).Another FYI - the 8 Squadrons of Viper's are made up of 2 Squadrons of the Valkyrie and 1 each of the other ships (2 Cruisers and 4 Destroyers). Those were on Alert 5 and deploying more Squads takes considerably more time. The Valkyrie can have another 2 Squads ready within the next 5 minutes. The Cruisers and Destroyers will take longer (they have only 1 Flight Deck and considerably less launch tubes).I thought these details would give you a better understanding of the situation. Mr Fox
So do the folks in the Herakeles CIC know what's going on with the raptor and vipers? Do they know about the colonial heavies or are they waiting on an update from the lead ships?

CIC BS: Valkyrie
Don't worry too much about it. I've never been in the military. I'm improvising most of this. The Acronyms, Lingo and Jargon helped a lot, though.
Rorx
So any particular reason it has gone so quiet around here?
Mr Fox
Real life has gotten extremely busy for me not leaving me with much time for the site lately. Same is true for all of the games I'm in pretty much.
Rorx
Yeah, I know Fox. You and Titan are sorely missed over at ItB, but you concentrate on getting RL right first. I just wondered what Joani's story was.
Rorx
Come on Joani, let us know what's going on with the game, is it dead, on hold, coming back soon? You've been listed as logged on for several hours a day for the last week or more, so hopefully you'll get to read this and give us some info?If you need to time get RL sorted out, then fine, but please let us now this if that's the case. CIC BS: Valkyrie
That is right Rorx, I've been on the site but I didn't have any spare time to make a decent post.I hope the game is not dead, because I'd really want to move on with this. I'm going to update the story and get you into the game right away. The reasons for my brief absence are manyfold - to make it short - I work in germany's largest bank. The current situation world wide is strongly affecting my job which in return means less time for hobby's and such. I'm sorry to have kept you in the dark about this - I'm not having any RL-issues or anything, I just need to slow down a little on the boards because my time is limited until the markets have calmed down again.
Rorx
Thanks, Joani for the info.I'm happy to come into the game whenever it is apropriate, no need to rush it if it's not the right time yet.Given you work in a bank I can see why your attention is diverted, to put it mildly Don't worry we'll be here when things settle down, hopefully soon, for all our sakes! Michael Peters
Dont worry about it Joani.
