Alternity: The Elements of Eternity - Ep. 1 - Destiny in Motion (The Rescue)

"Sure... no problem..." Kittani rolls her eyes. "Anything else I can do for you? Fix your blender... get you a bib..."

Without much tact Kitty points her Magnum Laz0r 5000 at the wires and lets fly a few blasts until the coil is hit and the Emissary is free (with several inches of excess wire dangling from her her manacles).

She looks to Adrian. "Easy-peasy."

"Well, I-"

The woman's next words were cut off as she flinched from the bolts of energy, closing her eyes and turning her head. As her arms fell to her sides, she stumbled forward, momentarily losing her balance as the cables were abruptly severed.

"Thank you," she said smoothly, recovering her equilibrium and composure as she looked ruefully at the lengths of wire dangling from her wrists. "Not quite the accessories I would've chosen for this particular ensemble, but they'll have to do."

Her expression softened as she turned to Adrian, briefly dipping her head in gratitude.

"If you have indeed come to rescue me, you have my deepest gratitude. My stay here has not been the sort I would consider pleasant, though I must confess to some bewilderment about the reason for my imprisonment in the first place."

Something like a frown passed over her lovely features, and quickly faded.

"I must apologize for being so impolite. I am Milena Sharael, a Joybringer of Naimah and an emissary of the Sol System, and I thank you for coming to my aid. I fear that none of my crewmates remain, but there is a gentleman next door who might also benefit from your assistance. He's a very dear man, and I would almost certainly have succumbed long ago had it not been for his companionship."

The distant sound of explosions and gunfire roused Sebastian from the restless sleep he'd dropped into. He had no idea how long he'd been chained up in this god forsaken outpost but if he'd had any idea the planet was under military occupation (no matter how small the occupying force really was) he never would have come here. It was clear to him that Beckford had sent him on a wild goose chase. In between bouts of fitful sleep and brutal interrogations, Sebastian fantasized about all the different ways he could wreak his revenge on the bastard who'd sent him here and if it wasn't for the whispered company of the prisoner in the cell next to him, he probably would have broken days ago.

A tiny grate near the floor banged open and Nuncio's furred peeked through and scanned the room before the little ferret hopped out of the air duct and rushed over to his master. The little familiar squeeked and chittered excitedly in front of Sebastian until with a few words and an empathic nudge, the animal calmed down enough for him get an impression of it's emotions. The usual cautious fear Nuncio felt while 'living' in the twisting air ducts of the base was replaced with eagerness and excitement. Something was clearly happening on the base.

Minutes passed and then Sebastian heard a commotion out in the hall. People were talking quietly so he couldn't hear what they were saying but they entered the cell next to him and there was a bit more talking before he herd the sizzle of laser fire.

"Milena!" He called out with alarm through the connecting air duct. "Milena are you all right? What's going on?"

Milena's smile broadened as she strode over to the small grate, kneeling as she called out to the adjacent cell's occupant, "I'm fine, Sebastian, don't worry! Someone's come to help us!"

She glanced quickly over her shoulder and regarded the crew with liquid eyes, her voice quiet, but plaintive.

"Please, I couldn't bear to leave him here. If we escape without him, they may well kill him."

"Never mind Emissary, we won't leave him behind. Kitty, do your thing with the door please. Then lets get out of here, the others can only provide a distraction for so long."

Having said his piece Gabe returns his attention to the way they've come and the possibility of discovery.

When Mileena stumbles forward, Isis steps up to make sure she doesn't fall over. She steps back again when it's clear the diplomat has her balance.

At Gabe's warning Isis says, "There has been damage to this cell block. It may have opened other ways out. One of us could make a fast recon sweep to determine this."

To Kittani,

"I've been meaning to talk to you about my blender ... but that can wait," he grins. It's good to still be alive.

"Ms. Sharael, please stick close to this woman," indicating Isis. "We'll get you companion out. Actually, Kittani here does most of the work, if you wish to thank someone."

In a way, Kord was happy this was the way of things. Had his services been needed, horrible things would have been done to flesh. This Sebastian sounded well. At least he hoped he was. The sooner they could start their exit, the less time security had to corner them.

[Computer Use, Taking 20]It didn't take long before Kitty was on one knee hacking the terminal on the wall to the neighboring door. A few sparks few and grumbled and cursed from a few slight jolts but it wasn't long before the door popped open.

The door slid up and Sebastian was a free man.

The door slid open open and Sebastian squinted for a moment in the sudden flood of light from the hall. When his eyes adjusted he saw the pretty woman in front of him.

"Thank you!" he said as she looked down at his bruised form, marks of his last beating still evident. He held out his bound hands to shake his rescuer's hand and Nuncio skittered around his feet as he rose. "My name is Sebastian, Sebastian Lord."

"No sweat." She said softly as her eyes took in his battered body. "We got a doctor with us, well, sorta, try not to move too much."

She looked to her left out of Sebastian's field of vision. "Adrian, this guy looks pretty bad, you might want to have a look at him and make sure he's okay to travel. And be gentle, he's cute." She grinned and winked at Sebastian.

"Well Mr. Lord, care to start running? Your jailers are on their way and we really don't want to be waiting around to see what kind of mood they are in."

He offers Lord a hand out of his cell, unsure how badly hurt he was.

"I'm the doctor. Please tell me you can run and I'll give you a complete physical once we get to our ship, all right?"

Sebastian blushed shyly at Kittani's comment but snapped back to the situation at hand as the doctor spoke to him.

"Doc, I'd run a marathon if it meant escaping from these bastards," He said then held up his hands. "Can anyone get these things off of me?"

While he was fumbling with his bonds, Nuncio reaced over to a set of lockers close to the door and started chattering up a storm, the little animal was clearly excited. "Okay, okay Nuncio, I get it!" Sebastian said to his companion and when he was free of the cuffs he moved up to the locker to retrieve his belongings.

"Our stuff is in here," He said to Milena as he dressed in his gear. When he finally got his duster on Nuncio climbed his leg a slipped into a large inner pocket. "And let me say it is a pleasure to finally meet you in person."

When he had everything in it's proper place Sebastian looked at his rescuers. "I'm ready to leave."

When Sebastian asked for help with his bonds, Isis said, "Hold your hands out and separate them as widely as you can."

When he complied, she approached. A narrow triangular blade snapped out of her left wrist, apparently out of her skin through a slit in her bodysuit. Its edges blurred and the weapon emitted a low, ominous hum overlaid with a barely audible high pitched squeal.

She regarded the thick chain holding Sebastian's manacles together for a moment...then brought the blade down onto it.

Sparks sprayed down onto the floor, and the chain parted into two halves. The sword retreated back into her arm with a quiet hiss.

Once Sebastian was outfitted she nodded at his declaration of readiness.

"We have given them time enough to muster their forces. Leaving out the front may be dangerous. The damage to this section may be enough to have opened another way out, but it will take time to look for one and there may not be one."

She rested her luminous blue eyes on Adrian, evidently having accepted him as the crewman in charge.

"Orders?"

"Isis, stick close to Milena and make sure she gets out," he directed Isis.

"Kittani, can you determine were there have been breaches in the wall? It's right that going out the front isn't going to be an option so a breach in the wall is the best we can do. Sorry to be leaning on you yet again."

"Gabe, what's the situation out there? When we get moving, I'm going to need you to be tail end. I'll take point, Isis will come with Milena, and Kittani will be here with our new friend, Sebastian. How does that sound?"

"You've heard as much as I have Kord. Captain's around somewhere and Shiro has withdrawn to the rendezvous - so we better get a move on.I suggest that we'll probably have to steal some transport unless we get real cosy on the bikes."

"This building is all kinds of screwed, guys." Kitty looked from her holo display and to them. "Power grid is fried, core is leaking, there's a malfunction in the security system... What the hell was Shiro doing out there?"

She sighs and focuses. "Far as I can tell the safest route is the route we came in through, unless we want to pick through all this rubble or proceed to go further into the mountain," She looked to Adrian ans gave an apathetic shrug. "Yer call dude. Outside seems the safest route, providing Shiro took care of all the opposition, we're golden."

"Out it is," he said putting away his medpack and redrawing his pistol. "Speed is our best ally, I guess. Let's move at a jog. I'll lead the way."

And hope I don't die.

Adrian jogs back up to the entrance of the cell block then moves to the intersection. He hopes everyone is keeping up and that he's not slowing them down. At the intersection he pauses long enough to listen and look around.

Sebastian shot Kittani a shy smile when the doctor paired them up, and blushed again. Man, she's hot! And she thinks I'm cute too! Okay focus 'Bastion, get your ass out of the fire and worry about girls later. What would dad do? Sebastian concentrated, making sure his spellknots were in still in place, as he transfered his staff to his off hand and unholstered his laser pistol. He followed after Kord at a light jog.

Isis pauses as conflicting priorities are sorted and resolved, then stays with the female prisoner as they keep up with the group. She thought it would be more advisable for her to take the lead, but she would do as ordered.

"Can you shoot accurately?" she asked her charge.

It didn't take Milena long to gather up her few belongings, and she quickly verified that everything that should have been in her case, was. She strapped a small, cylindrical tube to her left thigh, and a slim rod hung from the right side of the belt she fastened about her waist; another, similarly-shaped object rested at the small of her back. Naturally, when paired with the cuffs still about her wrists, these accoutrements clashed terribly with the near-translucent gown she was wearing, but there was hardly time for an entire wardrobe change when one was being rescued!

The consort paused for a moment, regarding Isis curiously. There was something odd about the other woman, with her pretty, strangely empty blue eyes and a glowing blade of some sort that apparently manifested from her wrist. Milena was fairly sure she wasn't human, but neither did she have the look of an Aleerin.

Hmm...

When Isis asked if she could shoot, her expression changed from pensive, to mildly horrified, and then somewhat stern.

"I am afraid not. At least," she amended, "not with such weapons." A wave of her hand indicated the pistols everyone seemed to be carrying. "As a Joybringer of Naimah, I have sworn a vow never to snuff the light of a sentient life. Such tools are forbidden to me."

As they continued moving, Milena was quiet for a moment.

"Nevertheless," she continued with an audible sigh, "I am not completely unable to defend myself if the situation demands it."

She was clearly unhappy with the idea that violence might be necessary, but the note of resignation in her voice was clear. She and Sebastian were safe because of these people, and it would simply not do to repay their kindness by refusing to aid them.

"I do not understand 'joybringer of naimah,'" Isis informed Milena as she slipped her charge pistol back into its holster on her hip. "Please stay within arm's length of me until we are on board our ship, so I can defend you with maximum efficiency."

She forged ahead then, staying just behind Kittani and her ward.

"Nothing on the sensor, Doc." Kittani looked to Adrian as she inspected her motion sensor. "We'd better haul ass."

She pressed her finger to her ear. "Shiro, we've got the Golden Girl, we're en route to the rendezvous point. Hey... how's that new diffusion coil I installed holding up? Response time increased any?"

"Cut the chatter ladies," Erebus's voice came over the comms in a hushed whisper as if he were sneaking about someplace he shouldn't be (Bad, Erebus!). "Get yer asses in gear and see to it the Consort remains unharmed. I'll be along shortly."

True to her readings, Adrian, nor the others noticed anything unusual or waiting for them outside the brig. With an occasional nod from Kittani and Isis, putting their sensors to work, the team quickly made their way back to their point of entry.

The base staff ran all about the place as they moved about but none interfered with them as they made their way to the warehouse. The chaos and confusion of Shiro's distraction had paid off, but now that distraction was over with and things were settling down... they had to act quickly before their cover was blown.

Kord looked around struggling to come up with a plan. He turned to the gathered group.

"We need a plan, we need it now, and I've got bubcus. Okay, I have one really bad plan, but its hardly worth mentioning. Isis and Gabe grab a passing vechile, we all jump in and drive through the gates. As I said, it sucks."

"Anyone? Anything?"

Gabe shakes his head at Isis' comment from the back of the group, Robotic brain must have got a little radiation fry brielfy or something - have to watch that in future.

"Yep, Isis they can carry one passenger, but didn't we only bring two of the bikes in with us, due to a lack of drivers?"

Isis gives Gabe a level look. "Yes. We will still need additional transportation. The motorpool is not far, but getting there will require crossing some open ground. There is also the problem of Thuldan vehicles, which may be difficult to operate. Can anyone here read their language?"

Fine by me, but Sebastian, I'll take your place and go with Kittani.

That's what he wanted to say. He didn't say it. He couldn't bring himself to say it. He had reached the limits of his bravery ... for now, and he wanted back to the ship. He didn't make excuses for himself. He was out of gas and he knew it.

"Sounds like a plan to me. Let's get moving. Sebastian, you sure you are going to be able to handle yourself? What is it you do again?"

"Could another person not be spared?" the consort asked, glancing around at the assembled group. "There are six here, now, and surely another could go with them. My life is no more important than theirs, certainly not so much so that they should be left to fend for themselves while I am coddled."

"You are both so very brave," Milena murmured quietly, regarding Sebastian and Kittani with both admiration and concern evident in her eyes. "Please, take care of each other, and return safely."

Sebastian looked at the good doctor and gave him a mischieveious grin "I am an Aetheric Specialist," He said with a hint of pride in his voice. "A Wizard, to use the popular slang."

He turned to the ever lovely Milena and smiled with a slight blush. "Don't worry, we'll be careful."

He was still blushing when he moved to stand by Kittani and said, "I've been told I am a decent shot. I've got your back."

Isis paused, then looked at the others.

"Reassessing the circumstances. If some of us are going to the motorpool to capture an enemy vehicle, we have little to gain by splitting up. That way we can all benefit from Kittani's expertise, and we have a better chance of succeeding overall."

She looked at Adrian and the others to see what they thought.

Kittani showed some signs of nervousness as she looked around. She offered Sebastian only a polite (yet certainly attractive) grin as he assured her he'd 'have her back'. "Okay people, seriously... of all the times for a team Pow-Wow we decide to have one now.?!"

"Yes," she says hurriedly to Isis. "Sounds like a plan, you're a genius, couldn't have asked for better... now can we go before a soldier fires a bullet into my butt, please?"

"Okay, we are all going now. Isis, take point. Let us know when the coast is clear. Everyone, let's hustle when the time comes."

Adrian began moving to the door, hoping he was being followed. He waited for Isis to take a look on and wished he had his running shoes on.

Isis nods and proceeds to the warehouse door that is nearest the motorpool. She peeks carefully out, looking for any available cover that might be along the way. When she's gotten a feel for the safest route available to their destination she motions the rest of the team forward.

"Follow my lead," she says, still looking out the cracked open door and waiting for an opportune moment. "As quickly as possible. If we're spotted, run for the motorpool."

There. A momentary lull in the rush of personnel around the base. It was now or never.

Isis slips out the door and makes a dash for a small electric flatbed with barrels of...something...on the bed. It wasn't much, but it might buy them a moment or two more of avoiding detection on their way.

(OOC - If stealth is possible, if there's some form of cover, I'll make a roll. Otherwise I throw myself on the GM's mercy as to how far we get before the alarm is raised. :))

Swiftly the prototype war machine dashed from the doorway to a small flatbed hover-truck when suddenly her sensors read a threat off the chart.

The hum of a supercharged canon betrays the artillery's position as the massive tank prepares to fire. Electrical pulses flash and flare about the barrel's tip until suddenly an enormous blast of bluish, super heated plasma streaks across the large opened terrain of the bases courtyard where Shiro had laid waste to the bases troops and mecha just a few minutes before...

... it appeared he'd left one.

The explosion ripped into the ground and tore a crater beneath Isis's feet, but she was already gone. She hit the ground and rolled hard, stumbling to maintain her balance as the force of the blast played havoc with her balance compensator. Her flesh was torched and her hair singed up the back and sides of her skull. The elegence of the machine that rested beneath the surface of her flesh was made visible in a ghoulish display of half scorched woman/half polished war machine.

"Shiro," Adrian says with a calm that belies his panic, "come back here now. You left a big gunny thing. It's blasted Isis. We are by the motor pool. Get here or we are going to be scorched, or captured. Hurry."

He looked back to the newcomers.

"Help is on the way."

I hope.

Surprisingly, he found himself ready to spring from cover if Isis went down. Someone had to retrieve her after all. Right?
