Big Eyes, Small Mouth (BESM): In the Shadows of the City - Chapter 1 Session 2b (KKJ)

Keiko, Kage, and Jim had drawn the "easy" assingnment of patrolling the school area, and quickly found a large group of hounds in the inner courtyard, milling about.

It almost looked as if they were waiting for something.

Five massive Cerberus emerged from the gymnasium, each of them holding a human body. The larger hounds tossed the bodies out amongst the hounds, and this started a feeding frenzy or gore.

What followed was truely astonishing as the five Cerebrus began killing the hounds. It was a spectacle beyond proportion as dozens of hounds died as the Cerberus tore into them.

(mind check DC 12 to notice other things going on.)

Jim tries to see who the bodies may have been of, in order to tell their families, but is unable to, and with the number of deaths going on in the city it would probably be a moot point anyway. He can't see why they would feed on the lesser hounds, unless it was to somehow weed out the weaker ones, or simply that the immediate supply of humans was more effort than eating the nearby hounds? Regardless he prepared himself to fight them, as they would soon finish their meal and start making trouble in the area once again.

Keiko covers her mouth with a hand to stifle an involuntary horrified noise. Despite her usually calm demeanor, she wasn't hard to startle or get momentary reactions out of. Despite her roiling stomach and dismay, she struggled to distance her mind. What was happening was bizarre, and maybe important. She flicked her eyes around, looking for some clue about what this was all about...

Each of them notices when the pillars of light engulf the cerberus and the newly glowing eyes and claws. They also hear them talk. "Can you believe that there's actually people dumb enough to not side with the demons? The last couple of nights groups of demons throughout the Ward have died."

"Yeah but they were all weak. Not us. We find these human punks we'll show them what true blessings becoming a demon confers." The implication was clear. Some humans were choosing to become demons, and feeding on humans and other demons to gain strength."

Keiko's mouth trembles, then firms into a grim, straight little line. She reaches over to grab Jim's sleeve, either to get his attention or stop him from rushing in...though there's no evidence he was going to do that.

"We need help for this," she whispers. "We need to find some of the others."

"I'd suggest we wait for them to separate and pick off the stragglers," Kage says. "The longer this sort is around, there will be fewer and fewer 'others'." He pulls his chain taut between his hands. "Come on. They deserve it, don't you think?" Kage looks around. "And if we can get the school's loudspeakers, we might get a way to reach people."

One of them sniffs the air. "I smell humans, and fear."

It starts padding over towards the group, and another quickly flanks it on each side. The final two are blocked from view.

(You can straight out run and get away, or you can try to be stealthy and hide from them. Stealth check is a body roll augmented by your stealth skill with a DC of 13.)

Kage holds back a scoff, but yields to his teammates' wishes. If they were set on leaving, attacking now would make their escape too difficult- not to mention, it would draw the odds of success into question. Waving Jim ahead of him, Kage pulled up the rear, chain still ready if they weren't out before being noticed.

As he runs with the others Jim keeps a careful eye on where the demons had got to and contemplated the best sort of weapon for the situation.

How about a grenade launcher that only effected them? Then I wouldn't have to worry about collateral damage and getting one of us in the blast radius. I could also make the blast big enough to hopefully almost guarantee getting more than one of them.

((OOC

Weapon in mind: Range 3 (1km), Multidimensional, Area 4 (30m radius), Exclusive targets Cerbreus, WL =12.

Damage = 65 for Jim to all Cerbrei in the area. smile Not making it yet, wait until we might need it))
