Aberrant: The Long March - Historical Adjustments: Hammersmith Timeline

Omar will at as security guard for Cody while he makes his adjustments to Stalin. Because he doesn't speak Russian, he can't stay behind and act as security, even though that would be the prudent thing. The Communist Party bosses will probably off Josef after a few months.

Omar will however, start a newspaper in the southern Russian provinces, which do speak Arabic, extolling the virtues and value of freedom and Capitalism. This for profit venture will also hire many from the local populace. Omar will also begin importing goods, so others can start local business. This will undoubtedly stir up a hornet's nest, and they might try to arrest Omar.

Since he will be the owner, he will have some of the profits saved for his return. The rest of the profits will be used to help others start their own business. A board of directors will appoint managers take over and run things, in case of any absence. By directly confonting the economic system, he will show the other's a better life, and that there is an alternative to Communism.

Morgan nods in response to Omar's plans. "That sounds like an excellent idea. It's likely to come to a military solution on the Soviets part, but I'll gladly help you plan for that, I do have a bit of experience along those lines after all." He gives Omar the same kinda cheesy grin and wink that he might have given a younger Omar many years ago after helping save his life in Kurdistan.

Steve will start looking into the stock market, i.e. seeing which stocks would be good buys in a "buy and hold" stratigy. This will require hiring a broker, a banker, etc. Naturally he'll be hiring a broker who historically has a good record, and investing in companies that historically did well.

Oh, and to double check this, we aren't stopping with just Stalin. Stalin, Lenin, and the top 4 or 5 others will have to be dealt with... although after dealing with one it should be easier to deal with the other because he'll know the details about where they are, etc.

One thing that might be done, by those involved with the US Markets, is to start reforms to the banking system. The biggest factor in the Great Crash of 1929 is the fact that banks didn't hold any money in reserve. Instead the banks were investing all the money into the markets. When the market crashed, those with money in the banks, lost everything. Starting something like a Fed. Reserve, would prevent such a crash. That is one of the reasons why the Fed. Reserve was formed. Banks today, are required to hold 10% of all deposite recepts in cash.

OOC:

I welcome the input, but this would have been a more appropriate post if done in the Table Talk thread. In here it is very OOC. Please direct any further OOC discussions to the Table Talk thread.

Thanks.

After the nova sized dinner and some good conversation, Morgan stands up and indicates that he is ready to proceed. He opens the warp to the room they've decided on in Lenin's home. You all step through uneventfully and are fairly sure that no one has noticed your presence. After everyone readies themselves he motions for Steve and Omar to lead the way.

  • 2 weeks later...

Omar follows Steve, Morgan and Cody through the warp. They end up in what is most definitely Soviet Russia. This is evident by the prominent display of the red, hammer and sickle flag. Omar takes position at the head of the group, should they come under direct fire. After a moment of discussion, they begin their search for Vladimir Lenin.

Secretly, Omar hopes that some Communist hard-liners are waiting for them, so he can eliminate them now. He knows that eventually, the true believers of the Communist ideology would have to be eliminated... by force.

As you stalk quietly through the halls of Lenin's home/palace you find the hallway where his bedroom is. The hallway is dimly lit and despite the late hour you can see brighter light spilling out from beneath his doorway. However, there are two guardsmen standing to either side of the door. They look bored, but relatively alert and they are each armed with a rifle with a bayonet attached to the end.

Omar sends back to Steve and Cody: We should get them out of the way quickly and quietly. I don't feel like taking on an army. If you do something Cody, then do it. Otherwise I will start smashing.

The three of them walk towards the guards with hands raised in the air to show they have no weapons. Omar hopes that Cody can take care of them. If not, Omar will smack the men into unconsciousness.

Cody, who has been strangely silent since the Hammersmith disaster, nods in response to Steve and Omar.

He sends over the link to the others:

*I'll inhibit their ability to act....just whatever you do, don't look back at me until they go down.*

He then approaches with the others, remaining behind them. When the guards notice and turn to face them, Cody retracts his special goggles back into their extra-dimensional pocket, allowing them both to get a full dose of eye-contact. (uncontrolled Disorient roll please)

{{I envision the disorient effect to be similar to the scarcrows fear toxin special effect from batman begins. If you arent familiar with that then here is a Youtube vid ...the effect is shown at 1:30...}}

Facing down men with guns Steve got real nervious for a moment, then realized that if the new and improved Steve can trade punches with Omar then it's probably not an issue.

He's two steps behind Omar and will do "clean up" in the unlikely event that either of them remain conscious.

Both guards lapse mercifully into unconsciousness and slump to the floor. The rifles falling from their hands and making a bit of a clattering noise. In Russian a voice from within calls out a question. If any of you speak Russian, "What is that racket, Guards report!"

كراب أوه! Omar swears quietly to himself in Arabic, as he turns to the others and shrugs his shoulders. I should have known that it wouldn't be that easy.

Omar looks to the others in the hopes they speak Russian, as he gestures wildly for the others to come up with something.

Morgan grimaces, and replies in his best Russian, "Pardon sir!, This idiot fell asleep on his feet and dropped his rifle. He will be disciplined!" Apparently this was the right answer because the voice returns, "See that he is comrade, and send him to ask the cook to begin my breakfast, I have a long day ahead."

Once the exchange is finished, Morgan will translate over the link, and adds, *My Russian is pretty rusty, good thing that door is between us and muffling my words or he'd no doubt clue to the fact that we don't belong. Ok, I'll bind these two, you lot take care of business.*

Omar looks towards Cody and Steve and sends through the link.

Cody, do that confusion thing to Lenin if he starts to run. Steve, you and I will grab him. I will take out any guards that are in the room. Any problems?

When the others are ready, Omar will reach down and gently try to turn the doorknob. If it is locked, he will force it open.

Omar forces the door open, twisting the knob to a mangled mess in the process and steps through. The room has one occupant, that being Lenin sitting at a desk in the corner going over a stack of papers by the weak light of a single lamp. Surprisingly the room is not terribly oppulant, though it is rather nice for a communist.

Lenin looks up in puzzlement which quickly sharpens to clarity. "Gentlemen, whatever you seek to accomplish by barging in to my room in the middle of the night will be in vain. I will not be compromised, and the great Soviet Socialist Republic will go on even if you take my life, so you might as well leave by the same mean in which you came." He delivers this speech with a fair degree of calm. Perhaps he even believes it.

Cody advances menacingly forward from where he had had been hidden by Omar and Steve.

He allows his mental presence to be felt in Lenin's mind and noticing if he is truly as calm and composed as he projects

*Thats what you think.*

As Cody advances further he gives the Soviet leader just a small taste of their power.

*Freeze*

Cody's will overpowers Lenin with crushing force, robbing him for a moment of the capacity to move a single muscle, bat an eye, or even breathe.

(Dominate please, drop one WP)

Then Cody has reached the desk. He puts one hand on Lenin's forehead, releasing his overt psychic control and delves into his mind.

(A few seconds later/next turn. Off Dominate, Full-on Telepathy please)

*Allow me to share with you a brief glimpse of the future*

{{Camera zoom into Cody's mirrored Lenses, reflecting Lenins face biger and bigger...into the reflection, into Lenins face, into his eyes and the blackness of his pupils engulfes the screen, fading to black as we delve into a mental montage.}}

Cody downloads into Stalin's mind in a fraction of a second, a vison of the fate and fall of the Soviet Union. His death and Stalin's Tyrranical rise. Flashes of World War 2, Atomic Explosions, Starving Russian citezens and the missile silos of the Cold War. The vision ends with the ultimate crumbling collapse of the U.S.S.R. and an ominous image of the Chinese Red Flag and Mao's face, seasoned with a dash of evil dread as the legacy of tyrrany is carried onward into Asia.

*This is what will become of your "worker's paradise"...*

*However noble your intentions may be, you will pave the way for unending evil in this world. One way or the other we are here to change that. You now have a choice. You can help us change the future willingly, or I will remold you into someone who will. Make your choice...*

Lenin struggles furiously against the control but has no real hope of resisting for long. After seeing the visions of the future he tries to deny what he sees, but given the abilities Cody is displaying there is a core inside him that does believe. When Cody releases control enough for him to reply he asks, "Why? Why does this happen? Our economy is not what it once was before the revolution, but it is not so far gone and we are making improvements. Life has not yet become so dark as you have showed in your visions."

"It happens because man is imperfect." Omar interjects, his towering form blocking the exit. "Despite your best intentions, human beings will still have greed, envy, and hatred in their hearts. Man has not evolved far enough. Power still corrupts."

The big man continues: "Soviet Communism is built on an imperfect foundation, and will becomes the opposite of what was intended. Millions will be enslaved, killed, and starve, while the political elite will live like kings. Meanwhile, those in America will be happy, free, and have an economy that meets the needs of virtually all their citizens."

"It will take 70 years for the Soviet leadership to realize that Communism was a lie."

Lenin makes his choice with a fear and dread that is nearly palpable. "I will work with you comrades." He says it with his mouth, and he even means it in his head, but Cody can feel the shape of his mind and the core of obstinency at the center of his being. He will work with you and he even believes the visions he has been shown, but his is not a will to be lightly subverted. He firmly intends to maintain as much of his ideals of communism as possible. It is in his mind that perhaps he can work with you to improve communism and make it succeed with your help.

Recovering his dignity quickly he sits foward and looks at Cody and asks, "Your visions showed my own death in less than two years. How do you plan to use me if I will die so quickly?" His look becomes shrewd, "Is this conversation not pointless, or would you have me write a 'last will and testiment' to direct the masses and prevent Stalin from rising to power?"

Upon the asking of the question about his health, Morgan steps foward with a mischevious grin on his face and in his rusty Russian says, "No comrade, we do not intend that you should write such a document for many years." Stepping directly in front of Lenin's chair he reaches out and his hand begins to glow a gentle golden light as he sends his quantum healing powers through the man's weakened body. Three years of decline in health since his survival of a failed assassination attempt are reversed in seconds. When he withdraws Morgan leaves in his wake a strong Lenin now in the prime of his life.

After the healing Cody feels a shift in Lenin's mind. He will definitely work with you and offer little resistance though he will still attempt to maintain his ideals as much as possible.

(To the others) *Since we have an expert handy, we should ask him who else needs to see what the future looks like, or what our next move should be. Considering his efforts to make himself into a god, I suspect Stalin is even now beyond hope and reason, although not beyond power.*

(sending back) *We could kill or kidnap Stalin. He was the one wo really messed things up. But I wonder what the future looks like already, now that Lenin is reformed. We should also seek out Leon Trotsky. He was assassinated by Stalin in Mexico City in 1940, because he said that the USSR had become a 'degenerate workers state' that it was undemocratic. He was still a comitted communist, and was Lenin's second. Stalin preventd Trotsky from taking over after Lenin's death by creating a comitte of his cronies.

Steve sends back,

*Lenin being reformed and healthy both strengthens and weakens his position. Stalin or someone may try to take him out because he wants to advance, or simply because he's now a heritic.*

*As for Trotsky, he was definately a mover and shaker, and for that reason we probably should look him up, but I've seen some convincing articles arguing he would have been worse than Stalin had he ended up in charge. The myth of him being a nice guy is probably just that.*

Cody pipes in,

*I suggest we modify both Stalin and Trotsky to toe the party-line...channel that ambition towards something productive. In the meantime I am going to make a few adjustments while Im in Mr. Lenin here, just to be on the safe side, as well as implant a post-hypnotic suggestion as a fail-safe in case anybody tries to tamper with what I've already been done...*

Morgan sends a quiet request for info to Lorean. A few minutes later each person receives a discription of the location of both Stalin and Trotsky's homes and the layout and possible guard compliments. It seems both Stalin and Trotsky keep 4 guards each to watch their homes, two of which are likely to be on duty patrolling at any one time. Fewer than the 12 that Lenin has.

Morgan says audibly but in English, "I think we should go ahead and repeat this procedure with both of the other men tonight. It would be a shame to have gone to all this trouble with Lenin only to have one of them make an unexpected move. If we take care of all three Russia should be on track for a brighter future.

Cody replies over the link,

*These next two are far too dangerous to give them the choice. I should have told you this sooner but therre is no reason for us to get in harms way...I could easily alter their minds from here...or even from the comfort of our orbital home. They would never know... More importantly, it wouldn't create suspicion in their entourage...*

Omar piques in: *If you can adust them from afar, great. I fear that the movement has spread beyond these three, but if we need to, Cody can make adjustments to key figures that arise. Unfortunately, I think they will all be taken out and shot by the Comissars.

We should head back and see how the others are doing.

Morgan nods in agreement to both of the others and after looking to Cody to see that he is done, he opens a warp to the ship.

(OK, everyone head back to the main chapter topic. We'll reserve this one for the adjustments you guys make to other leaders and other major changes to the timeline.)
