I was a little bored this evening after my recent fitness exertions and thought I'd bother the rest of you for a bit while my partner sleeps. For those of you interested, here's a quick down and dirty of the terminology currently in use among the professionals. Use it wisely and try not to look like a poser. I'm certain Vile Bill, Doc Smith, Rossi and Twist can add to it.

E-lite

n.

[*]An elite that works exclusively through electronic means. In general, this means that the elite is predominantly an information specialist (see spook)

[*]An elite that is particularly dependant on electronic equipment. Generally perjorative

Note: This term has fallen out of use recently, due to problems distinguishing between "E-lite" and the plain "elite" in general conversation. Still occaisionally used on the Opnet.

GIGO(ed)

v.

[*]Phenomenon of poor information coming back to bite you on the ass. (GIGO - Garbage In Garbage Out). Often used in description of why mission went bad.

I used to have the E-dictionary of these terms somewhere, I must have deleted it a while back. Ah well. Next!

Elite Terminology

Armani Package, The

n.

1. A reference to the eufiber colonies that most novas spend a year or more on a waiting list for but which Elites are provided from DeVries who obtain it directly from the supplier. The company is reimbursed at cost by a percentage taken directly out of the Elites paychecks. Although Elites can elect not to take the option, most do either before or after their first combat mission. Normal procedure is to provide a 'light' colony initially while allowing Elites the option to upgrade.

Part of the package is an insurance policy equivalent to a warranty to defray the cost of replacement. Rumor also has it that exposure to the quantum flux of being worn and used by Elites actually allows the supplier to upgrade the colonies with less effort. If true this would make the business arrangement truly symbiotic.

Example

"Yeah, they're taking half my check right off the top but ya gotta remember that covers the Armani Package. Don't invade Nigeria without it."

Armani, Steel

n.

1. Elites retained for bodyguard purposes and required by contract to 'dress down' / 'fit in'. The duty usually entails wearing the equivalent of business dress rather than the more colorful uniforms seen on N!. Often required by 'old money' clientele uncomfortable with the flash of regular Elite garb.

Steel Armanis are often "pretty people", i.e. either without visible taints or capable of concealing them. In rare cases there are those whose taints actually enhance their presence and therefore the status of the client.

See Taint-chick.

Example

"Vile Bill really isn't Steel Armani material but Lotus Infinite does it ocassionally."

'Change

n.

1. An abbreviation of "Chump Change". Description of baseline forces by elites immune to small arms fire.

Example

The encampment will be toast in two minutes tops - nothing there but a buncha 'Change.

Crunchies

n.

1. Primarily a reference to baselines that respond to the collateral damage of Elites in combat by dying instantly. Also refers to novas without physical protection.

Example

"Geisha is dangerous but she's still a crunchie."

Death Star

n.

1. A flight capable Elite with energy projection abilities who specializes in long distance attacks. Originally a nick name for Shrapnel it's come into general usage.

See "Storm God".

Smash-n-Smash

n., v.

1. A combat mission characterized by overwhelming physical force against baseline opposition for the purpose of sending a message to an opponent.

Example

"After 'Tank' Choulat wasted the first rebel base it turned into a total Smash n' Smash."

Toyz

n.

1. Equipment of extremely high quality and effectiveness, usually only applied to devices created by Rachel Allinsky of DeVries R&D. The word is said with a satisfied smile by the people that possess them and with fear by the people that don't.

See "Doom", "Endgame", "Magic" and "PFM".

Toon

n.

1. A nova whose appearance, worldview or public persona is derived from the fictional exploits of western comics or eastern manga. Pejorative and usually prefaced with a nasty word.

See ICON.

Example

"If I have to deal with one more of these {censored} uppie Toons I'm going to start sending invitations to Addis Abba. At least that way I can get'em all out of the way upfront and concentrate on the job."

Don't worry about it TinyBritches, SDK is one dead mofo and has been for awhile now. He's one of the four bodies I done planted on my way to superstardom.

Yeah, he was a piece of work, 'Toon Whackjob Headhuntin' CherryPicker (NoChance ain't got to the last two yet.) Bad news and, if the rumors are true, spent most o' his change buying his way out of rape charges throughout the East. Nasty fuck.

Sick ass thing is, I got me a bad rep in Japan for that job. Like he was a sterling example of a samurai or some shit like that. Man, I just piss people off. Everytime I whack some yutz turns out he's some countries hometown boy. Like the good ol USA would give a flying toot if I went toes up.

I hate to say it, but it's true, there are some sick mother f***ers here. But you don't have as bad of a rep as you think. For every one that thinks you smoked a kami, there are a few others who think you killed a full blown Akuma. A Youma, a DEMON. Trust me, there aren't any tears shed at one of the local temples. The head priest actually breathed a sigh of relief. How anyone idolizes that sick f*** is beyond me.

Thank heavens he's dead. Or else I might have to do some things I don't like doing. Yet I do them anyway. Hentai like that monster needed to die. Thank you, VB. You do have light in your heart. Although you refuse to acknowledge it. I look on you in a different light.

Question: I heard a term being spoke around the ranch, Jack. They were saying: Whitewashing. What's that mean? Other than re-painting a fence white?

Fanboy, also Fangirl
n.

A member of homo sapiens novus that demeans him or herself by choosing to portray characters out of comics or animation. Also used in reference to members of homo sapiens novus whose public persona maybe be an original creation but are derivative of comics and animation.

example: Did you see what that reject from a fetish porn site was wearing on that vid? What a fucking fangirl.

My favorite charity.

:P

Quote:
LNSE asked:
They were saying: Whitewashing.

We were talking about the shit that was gonna come down from the op and why, as long as the mission profile was low, we wouldn't have to sweat it. I didn't include it in the list because it's a generic political /military term used throughout the west rather than one used strictly by Elites and has the same connotations everywhere.

White-washing refers to taking a nasty piece of midnight black work and trying to pretend it was an example of pure-as-the-first-cherry-blossom-of-spring benevolence. Comes from the fact that white-wash was a kind of paint that was cheap to buy, being over half water, and very effective in making something look clean.... As long as you didn't look at it too closely. Really thin and had a tendency to come off on your hands or wash away in the rain.

Quote:
Ashnod noted;
Fanboy, also Fangirl

Exactly!

In our end of the world it isn't considered a faux pas or matter of taste so much as weakness. See, it's like you and Prodigy tried to explain to Jager eight months or so ago. Popular culture and perceptions warp around novas to take on new meanings reflecting us. To be a Toon, what you call a Fan boy or girl, means they're reaching to become pure baseline fantasy. Conforming to popular culture instead of visa versa. Their hearts are empty and the need to fill the void is so great they'll take anything even if its only fantasy.

Study the fantasy and you can manipulate the nova. Destroy the fantasy and, with a little effort, can fill the void left with something else. Awareness. Fear. Despair. Love. Anger. A reason why Utopia steps in with such a heavy hand against Indian Syndrome especially in the First World.

A good rule of thumb is that, generally speaking, you can only kill someone once but you can break them many times. Just take a look at Pax.

I have observed similar phenomenon. During my eruption, a nearby small colony grew to a very large colony. Since part of my eruption was "growth" (both permanent and temporary) I can't confirm this with certainty, but I suspect that eufiber naturally grows when under the exposure of q energies.

Woah, and I thought that I'd watched that N thing enough to know some of the slang. Do you spend your spare time making up slang or does it just come to u.

Also hus this SDK as I dont really get out as much as other folk but from what I can tell he thought he was some kind of demon.

If he did then hes just one more person that gives novas bad names.

Sit around thinking it up?

Nope.

I just report what seems to be in general usage within the band and has a different connotation than that of the population at large. Like any military or quasi-military organization, Elites use a kind of verbal short-hand that condenses info down to its most basic package for speed of communication.

Or we use it to poke fun at people.

It's a hobby.... :P

Oh! Just while I remember it, another old one that's not used nearly as often nowadays.

1-to-R Shift

v

[*] Technical term for when a mission's general category is shifted in an apparently random, or very fast way. Often a result of GIGO.

(Et: refers to manual transmission gearstick configurations, in that 1st gear is usually on the opposite side of the gearstick than reverse. Also has the nice connotation of moving in one direction, and then being jerked into another direction)

See: Shift, turnabout, Fog (of war).

Tactical retreat

n.

[*]The fine art of, after an encounter with the Fog, vacating the area in something resembling one piece. Not generally as easy as it sounds, especially for those new to the elite lifestyle

See: High-tailing, Exercising discretion, Playing the Lion, Running like F*#$.

Here's a few paramilito-buzzwords that I like to use/live by.

Babysitting The tedious chore of looking after an individual of lesser ability. Bodyguard work. See also Armani, Steel.

Neutralization To remove an individual, force or asset from a conflict. Does not nessecarily mean to kill i.e. We neutralised the enemies tanks by cutting the tracks, boy will they be suprised.

Command Paralysis Neutrailizing qv. command assets, inividuals etc. Thus leaving the enemy with no effective control for their forces i.e. We can either bomb the HQ or jam the radios to inflict command paralysis and make our job easier.

Force Preservation Making sure that you and your buddies live to fight another day. "A wise general covet's his troops like pearls, and does not spend them like water" See also tactical retreat, hightailing, running like f*%k etc.

That should give you some food for thought. Oh and here's my introduction for those that don't already know me - I'm an Elite, Devries. I erupted in 2007, a baseline chrunchie during a Nova vs Nova fight, it seems that to protect myself my Node chose to give me a disruption power that fries most Nova powers pretty handily. Another useful effect I gained in a node spark kinda way was a Psychic Shield that effects both myself and anyone in the immediate area of me. Ironically it's that last one, the one that I don't control, that gets me most of my work. I guess that politicians, businessmen and diplomats don't like the idea of someone trying to get inside their heads during important negotiations. I wonder why? I've been with the Agency for a few years and my abilities are now perfectly and ruthlessly marketed in that corp/politico arena, the more cynical amoung you probably won't be suprised that there are always lots of interested parties. It's amusing when two opposite sides get into a bidding war to use my anti-services for the same conference or whatever, normally without knowing about it either coz of client confidentially and all that. Yeah I laugh all the way to the bank.

I just want to say that I love Elites. They will do just about anything for money and the few things they won't do allow me to make a living. They are the best. The keep Uppies outta my hair, waste inquisitive baselines that get in the way (or get too greedy), and the very threat of them keep the zips in line.

As a many-time satisfied customer, I can say they are worth every penny Anna-baby makes me fork out.

Be seeing you on the Golden Apple, guys.

Tea & Cookies

Usually a term describing a meeting between a client and the Elite they hired, or between an Elite and their boss. It is also sometimes used for a heated conversation between two people.

"Endeavor and Anna had some Tea and Cookies over her first mission profile today. Knowing Endeavor, she probably brought a 3000 page mission profile."

Little sister in the sailor suit, what in the hell do you think you do for a living? Seriously, you call ME a parasite? How would you describe yourself, then?

Listen. I pipe up with how much I like working with Elites and what a good idea it is that we have them in this new, evolving society novas are creating and you come back with anger? Is it over your profession or mine? Does it occur to you that I could not do what I do without people like you? Obviously not.

I am not an Elite. I don't want to be one. personally, I find the idea of killing my own kind makes me queasy. Doing it for baseline props doesn't make it better, but worse in my eyes. I find that providing Elites with employment by of their own kind to be a much better alternative. Novas serving nova interests.

In time, I hope we can do away with the baseline side of the equation and work it out for ourselves. Until then, I provide a specific kind of employment and a big paycheck. Elites provide the willingness to do this kind of work and the desire for that money. In the past, I have provided certain Elites with gifts for jobs well done, with permission of course.

Up until now, every DeVries Elite I have worked with has been polite, professional, and discreet. I don't use any other service. I have never needed to.

Why are you upset?

acquire: varying definitions, but usually meant having accomplished the initial sighting of a target. Spotting.

Ex.: Lilly looked through the scope of her rifle and acquired the target.

Ex.: Damien looked through the crowd and acquired the man with the package.

down twisted: (may be old-timey speak) things have gone horribly wrong but you succeeded anyway.

Ex.: "We got to our staging point, but the opposition got there first, our contact was working for the other side, the target wasn't were he was supposed to be, and our extraction team never showed. All and all, it went down twisted. Tell the client we want a bonus."

Ex.: The Uppies kicked down the door right as Nimrod pulled the trigger. Things had just gone down twisted.

Although your response to my flame was a little... deserved. :P But, your post did sound like you preferred Elites (Which I will soon be) to do all the dirty work, so you didn't have blood on your hands. That's why I was upset. If I misunderstood, I'm sorry. And you're calling ME a parasite? Not hardly. I'm trying to make a living, just like you. Ask Jack. He's set me straight on a few things, not to mention Vile Bill has run me through the ringer. I pay my dues now, so don't diss my threads. I do as I will, whenever I want. New lesson. Learning to read people.

Ol' Bastion here is a Johnson, not a worker just trying to make a living. He's an instigator, a planner, the reason why things happen rather than someone things happen to. He probably knows he's not at the apex of the food chain but wouldn't mind holding that top spot. It just doesn't eat at him the way it does someone like Pax. Elites are a convenient and versatile resource to him. He probably doesn't really care one way or the other about Elites except for that he doesn't want to be one and they mean he doesn't have to be the one to pull a trigger unless he chooses to.

It's doubtfull he intended to insult you. More likely he wasn't really trying but just didn't care if he did. There's a reason we call 'em Mr. Johnson, Sakura.

Though Mr. Chance is correct in that I fit the description of a Mr. Johnson, I don't really see myself as an instigator of troubles. If I had my druthers, I would spend my days basking in the sun and celebrating in the divinity that is the One Race. My nights would be spent in an endless revels of the body, mind, and spirit.

Alas, years of running under the guns of Utopian oppression have forced me to keep a finger in the affairs of my brothers and sisters. To that end, I provide a service. Mostly in trade with my own kind, but occasionally, I also take the coin of baseline society.

Hey, it pays the bills and helps make all the parties that much more fun.

Just so you do not think ill of me (you are an Elite in training, after all), let me send you a gift to aid you in your growth. I believe it is the correct thing to do that you get the Lady's permission, first. Just give me a description of what you desire and I will mold them for you. A goddess, even a young one such as yourself, deserves devotees.

As Seti Avatarati once told me, "we all must struggle through the wastelands of our beginnings before we return to the foundation of our godhood and awaken to our perfect selves."

Let me hold out a candle for you as you make your way through the voyage of self-discovery and enlightenment.

As I said, I do love Elites and what I see they have come to represent to us all. The physical benefits are the easiest to see, but the spiritual journey they undertake should not be overlooked.

You guys also party hard. I like that too.

Wet noise

The act of sending out false signal of who your target really is by killing either a large amount of people or killing someone who has a recognizable status.

IE if your target is on a bus, killing everyone on the bus.

If you target is the head of a minor country killing him and the head of a larger nation.Or if you kill both a captain and a general if you target was the captain.

I heard these ones from an elite (he was a Janissary, not a DeVries Elite) I dated once.

Idol, n.

1. A nova with enhanced social attributes, most frequently appearance and/or charisma. "Precious is such an idol."

FUBARNS, a.

1. Lit. "Fucked Up Beyond All Recognition Nova-Style"; a situation that has gotten out of control due to or because of nova involvement. "I always knew that Bahrain was going to be FUBARNS."

Sweat work, n.

1. Non-violent yet intense physical labour. "Can you believe that Black Dagger's on sweat work, of all things?"

I don't know if these are particular to Janissaries or are used throughout the elite culture.
