The closeness made him tense, but only for a moment. It was good to feel her this near... outside of a combat or training situation, that is. He was intensely aware of her as she whispered in his ear, and the sensation wasn't uncomfortable. His heart rate sped up, and the world took on the faintest elements of crystalline color again as she pulled away. He looked a little stunned as she pushed herself to her feet and turned to address Caine, barely having enough wit about himself to push his shades back up.

He took up his position 20 feet behind the Doc and Major Caine, the last one to leave the clearing. He looked over at the spot where he had sat and bled out over his teammates and smiled hesitantly to himself. He didn't know why, but he felt better that they knew all of what he was going through now. He wasn't as alone as he thought. The smile faded as he considered that one day, his friends might have to take a choice to save themselves... from him. But they had already shown themselves willing to take that chance.

Hopefully, when and if the day came, they'd make the right choice. The alternative didn't bear thinking about.

He trotted easily behind the others, still concerned, still afraid at what the world would be like. But the words of the Major and the Doc, the silent support of Jones, they made it, if not bearable, at least possible to bear.

Might be a little longer yet. he told himself wryly before attending to business and watching the back trails. His friends needed him.

"what ever you say Major."

Gwyn helps Dec on with his 75kg back and took the Sgt's 35kg one while the other took up their own packs from the pile.

"I know it's probably cheesy to say so Sgt, but there was a phrase from a classic scifi book that came to mind about what the Major was saying to you. It's simply this 'Fear is the Mind killer'. Like the Major says, and I'm sure you've seen in others in action, fear changes how you think and perceive things. It's not going to be easy but you need to find a way to get beyond that fear, and if there is anything that any of us can do to help you we will."

Having got the pack squared away Gwyn steps back from Dec, "Now I'm afraid you might find it more difficult to be quite so ghostlike while your at the back here. Nothing to do with your skills, more like the amount of broken testtubes that may be rattling around in there from when I went down. [Grins]"

Turning back to the trail he checks his weapon, making sure it's still on safe, before rigging it into a patrol sling. Before he heads out he turns back to the Major.

"Major, any preference as to how I do this, heavy, normal, light, or floating? Heavy might be noisier, but I'd be more resistant to normal fire. Light might be quieter than normal, and I think a bit harder to hit, but I'm not sure I could manage my pack very well. Floating might be the quietest I could be, but to keep it concealed would probably take concentration that should be directed to our surroundings more."

"If floating is what you are going to do then float. Were here to see what we can do with what we have, see how long it lasts, and what it takes out of us. Have fun, but do your job. You never know when you will run across another SG team I've asked to come out here and ambush us. Nope, you never can tell. Now Specialist, get floating."

Caine waited for the "Sir, yes Sir," and for Jones to take the lead. There would be no team out there this time, but best to make them feel the eyes upon them. Maybe they would think he was joking, warning them of danger when there wasn't any, or maybe they would think that this what what he wanted them to think. Wasn't command fun?

Get Floating he says, well here we go.

Gwyn did indeed 'float' off, trying to keep to just a few centimetres above the surface and mimicing walking/stalking as he goes to hide the fact that his feet aren't touching the ground. He does his best to copy what Sgt Perault had done, moving off the path into the surrounding terrain for a while to look and listen out for signs of others about then crossing back onto the path to give an all clear. Unfortunately it soon becomes clear to Gwyn that a) it's taking too much concentration to try to keep the right amount of hover/float to keep a good watch out, and B) he doesn't really have the skills to know how to move well in the forest anyway. So after only 10 minutes or so Gwyn stops floating and goes back to normal walking and mass for a while, until he gets feed up with the amount of noise he makes. Next he tries to lower his density, something that he haasn't had much practise at yet. He manages to concentrate enough initially to bring his clothes with him into that state, but despite a couple of attempts he can't seem to bring his pack with him. After the pack has fallen through his body to the ground a couple of times he gives up on that idea as well and completes the walk/jog back to base with his powers off.

The hike back was easier in most respects. Jones and Perault were barely feeling it. Jones seemed unhappy, but then maybe he wasn't cut out for point man. Time and training would tell. Caine was. Jenings-Izumi was definitely feeling it since Caine had to carry her back the last half of the way ... though he let her walk herself back in the last visible part of the way toward the guards.

The air was much warmer now. The walk into the cavernous maw that acted like as the entrance into the mountain caused his skin to tingle from the lack of the sunlight's warming touch. It was an awakening feeling.

"Okay team," the Major called out, "gather around. We did good today, even though we ended up dead. Time to gather up our gear, turn it in to the proper stations."

Caine looked at his watch. They would have to work on the time.

"PT in thr ..." he could see Olivia failing at his side, ... Forty-five minutes. Don't forget, we are being tested this afternoon on the Jaffa technology we are expected to encounter, so we may want to bone up over lunch."

He looked over his team with a reinvigorated sense of Pride.

"Dismissed."
