Big Eyes, Small Mouth (BESM): In the Shadows of the City - Chapter 1 Session 2c (SHHT)

Kazuo, Kenichi, Shin, and Jo made up the final team, and they looked more like a gang of hoodlums than protectors of the world. They'd already killed a dozen lesser hounds tonight. They'd been told to walk the shopping district. As the largest group they ran into the most hounds, but nothing they encountered was particularly impressive.

They neared the department store on the southern edge of of the Ward and were about to head back when they saw a pair of Cerberus duking it out with a dozen of the smaller hounds that Kazuo had been laid out by two nights ago.

The hounds were doing suprisingl well as the Cerberus were both bleading hard, but all the hounds looked to be nearly dead.

(OOC choose what you want to do, keep watching, or intervene and try to kill them all.)

"Crap," Jo muttered quietly, stopping short as soon as she saw the ongoing fight. "What... are they doing? Aren't they all supposed to be fighting... y'know... us??"

Stupid demon-dogs, she thought. What would they be fighting over? Then, Hey... Maybe we can take advantage of this golden little opportunity.

With her finger resting lightly on the trigger, Jo decided to hang back and see what happened; if they wiped each other out, she reasoned, it was less work they'd have to do.

Kazuo just shrugged. "Dunno, but if they wanna duke it out with each other that's fine by me."

He found a wall to lean on so he could enjoy the show, and fished out a pack of cigs and a lighter from one pocket. He popped a Lucky 7 in his mouth, lit it up, and muttered around it, "I got 500 yen that say the little guys win." And he settled back to watch.

Kenichi looked at the fighting beasts, Kazuo and Jo looked disinterested on the fight expecting the end. Kenichi looked at it, the big dogs where figthing the smaller ones almost like strays fighting over morsels.

"I gotta try this sooner or later." Kenichi moves behind an abandoned car, and waits for the fight to come to a lull, before lifting it and throwing it at wathever is left. "This is going to be a blast."

The two cerebrus were clearly getting the upperhand now. Hech one had a dead hound in at least one set of jaws and one beneath a set of paws. They killed the final two and then pillars of black light engulfed them both.

Wounds healed and muscles bulged. Their eyes burned with green fire and their claws became wreathed in flame. Then one spoke.

"Goddamn genetrash was finally good for something."

"How many humans and demons does that make?"

"Magic number Fifty. To think when they first offered us these forms that we'd have to actually maintain them?"

The other one chuckles. "IT was a deal with the Devils. What were you expecting?"

Kenichi was slightly surprised by the Cerberii talking, but then again they were devil creatures attacking other lesser devil creatures nearby his school in what had until yesterday been a perfectly normal day of skipping class.

But now it was a perfectly good nightmare that will follow him to the end of his days, or rather that he will follow to it's end. Crouching nearby a car, he held onto it from the chasis and the axel and lifted it above his head, taking a step forward he used the momentum to direct the car at the Cerberii, expecting to hear at least one of them go splat under it.

A shadow grows over one of the Cerbereus and it looks up, just in time to see the car a half second before it splattered it on the pavement. The remaining one Howls and suddenly another dozen hounds emerge from the shadows at its sides.

They all howl and leap into action runni ng full bore at the quartet of heroes.

(OOC The hounds are 2 rounds away runningwise.. Roll initiatives and what you do. Kenichi you need to dodge vs 13 for a fireball)

Kenichi stood in place as he heard the satisfactory splat from one of the Cerberii, reducing their numbers in half. But far from one of them being surprised the remaining Cerberus immediatly spat a ball of fire on his directiong which he scrambled to avoid being cooked.

"Eh, kuso...", muttered Kazuo as the last of the hounds was killed by the Cerberii. "Guess I lost that bet."

Stepping away from the wall, he flicked the stub of his Lucky 7 away, and reached inside his coat. When he pulled his hands out again, he was holding his Toorimichi - the twin blades he'd been given by the old man. The name toorimichi meant "one's path", and was Kazuo's ironic comment on the fact that he'd been more or less ram-rodded into saving the world... with a couple of knives.

He was just about to rush headlong - and rather foolishly - into battle, when he noticed a large shadow streaming across the ground towards the two monsters. Kazuo watched in amazement as a freaking automobile landed on the head of one of the Cerberii. "Whoah! Kuuru", he said in a mixture of surprise and pleasure.

Of course, the death of its partner did not go unnoticed or appreciated the remaining Cerberus, and so it reciprocated by tossing a fireball at Kenichi. Which sucked for him, but there wasn't much Kazuo could do about it, especially since a dozen more of the little guys had just rushed out to join in the fracas. So Kazuo did what he did best: he yelled really loudly and charged the entire lot of them. Should be fun.

It all happened too quickly. One moment, they were casually watching their enemies tear each other apart, and the next utter mayhem had exploded all over the place.

It was just her luck.

Without thinking, she swung her arm upward, thumb sliding over a small switch on the grip of her gun before squeezing the trigger and taking a wild shot at the fireball-launching demon beast.

Jo's shot strikes the Cerberus dead on, quickly encasing it in a block of alchemic ice. The hounds, deprived of their leader seem to falter.

New round

(Posting Order Cerberus, Shin and Kenichi, Jo, Kazuo, and lesser hounds.)

Cerberus spends it's actions freeing itself from the ice by raising the temperature around it. Shin and Kenichi you're up.

Kenichi rolls on the floor after being signed by the fireball, managing to roll his way behind another car, seeing the smaller dogs come out of everywhere he figured it was time to remove the head.

He was going to scream something witty, but Jo shot the big dog and it turned into a block of ice so he just shrugged and threw a different car at it.

*We need to rethink our strategy...* Kazuo thought idly, in between dodging his teammates' crazy-ass bullets and Freaking Automobiles!!! flying overhead, as well as the decent-sized pack of demonic dog-thingies that were all trying really hard to kill him. Okay, so maybe he was only having to dodge the demon-thingies so far, but that was small comfort when Hondas kept flying over his head.

Kazuo didn't really devote a lot of time to their collective lack of battlefield tactics, though (and hell, they were just a bunch of kids anyway, so what'd he expect?), because - as has already been mentioned - he was still surrounded by demonic dog-thingies trying to bite valuable portions off of his body off. Which, naturally, he didn't care for.

As a way of conveying this to his attackers, Kazuo was about to attempt chopping off valuable parts of their bodies in return, but then he noticed that the last Cerberus was having a spot of trouble, and decided to capitalize on that. So he ignored the hounds and charged the two-headed demon at top speed. It wasn't really an attack as such - it was more like a full body tackle with swords involved.

Hollering his head off the whole way, Kazuo spun his Toorimichi in his hands, and raised them both high overhead, attempting to shove them all the way to the hilts inside of both of the demon's heads at the moment of impact.

(09:26:20) ChatBot: (Centimane) rolls 2d6 and gets 2,5.

Blah.

First two are for the first attack, second two for the second attack, and the last two are for his first defense. The second set of two dice is for his second defense, which I almost forgot about (I can't believe it took me this long to notice that two weapon fighting gives you an extra defense. /me feels dumb.)

So, First Attack: (11-2)+(3+4)=16

Second Attack: (11-2)+(1+2)=12

First Defense: 8+(3+1)=12

Second Defense: 8+(2+5)=15

Kazuo gets bit once by one of the five remaing smaller hounds but the Cerberus missed him twice. He hit it once hard with his first strike. The other four hounds all attacked Shin or Kenichi and missed even with overwhelming odds.

The Cerberus seems to wait for something having already lashed out once.

Kenchi attacks the first hound closest to him with a solid kick, going for the chest/head area on the hellhound, figuring he needs to make this as fast as possible trying to keep Shin besides him and make some forward movement towards Kazuo. "Kazuo, you need any help?"

Kenichi's punch knocks one hound senseless, but doesn't kill it. Shin's attack however, cleanly decapitates another hound.

(OOC there are 4 hounds left one of which is wounded, and the cerberus. Jo you're up Skye you're with Jo, arriving this turn, you may attack.)

The wind gusted oddly as a shadow passed over them. Any who dared to look up saw the first of the calvary arriving, in the form of the flying Skye. Any reassurance from her presence was offset by the look of terror on her face; that look abated only when she paused about ten feet off the ground.

I can make the wind-wall and fight, so let's see if I can fly and fight, she thought. Keeping one fan moving, she dared to use the other in an attack. Aiming at the Cerberus, she cried, "KazeKami! Wrath of the Northern Wind!"

"Hey!" Jo shouted indignantly at the hounds that were currently attempting to overpower Shin. In the chaos, they either didn't notice, or didn't care, and that just wouldn't do at all. The guy'd had her back on more than one occasion, and she was only too eager to return the favor.

A wicked grin spread in Cheshire-cat fashion across her face, and with her free hand she pressed her thumb and forefinger to her lips. A short, shrill whistle pierced the sounds of combat, and the moment one of the hounds lifted its ugly head, her grin broadened.

"Swallow this, you worthless sack of-"

Boom!

Whatever she'd said was obscured by the echo of the gun-blast, and she braced herself defensively- feet in a broad, open stance- to kick at any of the beasts that decided to retaliate or crouch low if that three-headed demon decided to vomit up another gout of flame.

Kazuo rolled to one side, narrowly escaping Death by FreezerBurn, and shouted angrily at Skye, "Oi! Stupid patsukin!! I'm on your side!"

Coming up smoothly to his feet again, Kazuo decided to leave the big fucker for Skye, since she obviously wanted at it so badly. Instead he charged the remaining hounds that were giving the rest of his team so much trouble. As he did, Jo blasted yet another of them into oblivion, managing to not nearly shoot him to death at the same time. He wanted to stop and shout, "hey, that's how you get it done!", at Skye, but he had a feeling that would be counterproductive in more ways than one - plus, it would give Skye an excuse to shoot him for real. Not good.

Coming up behind the group of devil-dogs, he took a swing at two of them with his trademarked, chaotic style, and hoped for the best. While doing that, and trying to keep from being eviscerated, he answered Kenichi's earlier question in a surprisingly nonchalant voice (which he was almost certainly faking), "Nope, not yet. How 'bout you?"

Kazuo slays the two remaining healthy hounds with ease,as the cerberus begins to free itself from the ice. Itgets it's forepaws free, but nothing more.

Kenichi sees the opportunity and is unable to pass it up, quickly rolling out of the way of the lone attacking hellhound by putting Shin on harm´s way, he moves closer to the frozen Cerberus.

"You monster, time for you to get laid down and stop bothering us!" Kenichi gets a hold of the first car he threw, lifting it over his head and swinging it downward coming down crashing on top of the Cerberus.

(OOC No, it can't move.)

The car shatters the frozen Cerberus, and the smaller one that was still moving started running away, now that its larger companion was vanquished.

Keiko, Jim, Ken and Lindh all arrive to see Kenichi smash the Cerberus. Lind smiles and aims high, loosing an arrow that strikes the fleeing hound dead on, dissipating it.

She calmly lands next to her master and surveys the other group. "Looks like you all didn't need any help. She looks to Kenichi. "That was an impressive feat of strength."

"What do we do now?" Ken speaks up. "Oh, let me explain. We've just heard that the Cerebus are the souls of evil people who have sided with the Oni. The small hounds, they eat them too. Anyway, that is what we've figured out so far."

"Kaori is okay, just back at the Temple. There was an incident and the Ancient One showed up ... and it wasn't pretty."

"So, what have you witnessed?"

The story quickly related, the group of students made their way back to where the Cerberus had been and Found.... Nothing.

Well not quite nothing. Scrawled in blood was they Kanji for " Cat's Revenge." It was mysterious and someone took a picture with their phone.

The rest of the evening was suprisingly quiet, with literally no demons seen anywhere within the patrol sectors. They gathered back at the Shrine, then dispersed to their homes, leaving each of them alone to think about the mysterious message scrawled in Blood.
