Big Eyes, Small Mouth (BESM): Nexus Earth - Chapter 9.2b: Psycho Prince

The battle out in space was going well, considering the drones outnumbered the Satoshi pilots 6 to one. They gave an outstanding accounting of themselves, while Kai blazed a trail through them towards Takashi's Epyon Shadow. Takashi killed one of the pilots and noticed the blue-white streak of light that was the Meteor vectoring in on him. Readying his blade, he lashed out as The Meteor fired. The energy blade was over a kilometer long, and gashed armor over both shins of the Meteor, as Kai's blast melted armor from the Epyon's right wing. The two dove in, the Buster rifle abandoned, it's shot limit already reached. The twin autocannons did little more than throw up sparks around the Epyon, as the Collossal Blade met the Epyon's sword. From it's other Arm came the heat rod, which was only barely blocked by the Meteor's shield.

It was clear the young Head Captain had his hands full and likely couldn't prevail on his own against the lunatic Takashi.

A trio of large mecha, they looked like the ones called Maulers lined up on the pair, clearly intent to shoot the young head captain from behind.

(Kazuo, your initiative, and go ahead and react to the situation.)

Kazuo launched himself into open space, his body instantly hardening itself against the ultimate in hostile environments. Behind him, his wings were literally exploding, the feathers of his too-small wings being blown away to billow and drift in the zero gravity of deep space as the wings underneath expanded at a significant fraction of c, forming almost instantly into enormous constructs of luminous energy with a wingspan of nearly 30 meters, the "feathers" forming the wings' tips extending into translucent streamers of ameranthine light that stretched out easily twice as far again and seemed to drift in an invisible wind.

As his unprotected eyes gazed through the hard vacuum at the battle happening all around him, Kazuo flexed his shoulders and smirked, feeling the absolute cold of space on his teeth and tongue as his lips parted.

*Kai*, Kazuo thought, sending the word through the void with the nothing but the power of his mind. Telepathic communication came in very handy when you needed to communicate with someone, but you didn't have a radio and your vocal chords wouldn't work in hard vacuum. *It's me*, he added, unhelpfully and then , slightly more helpfully, *The new guy. With the wings. They sent me out here ta help ya.*

Kazuo could feel the surprise coming off the young Skeleton Key's mind as his mental voice echoed through it. There was a brief pause, which Kazuo filled by tucking giant, solid-light-feathered luminous wings tight against his back and rocketing into the midst of the mech-battle at a speed of nearly three kilometers a second, and then Kai sent back, *Fine. Help our pilots against this army of drones. I've got Takashi.*

Shyeah, Kazuo privately thought as he sent Kai the mental equivalent of nodding his head in agreement to his order. Right.

He increased his speed, until he was moving at something closer to thirty kilometers a second, closing the distance on the Meteor with phenomenal speed. And just in time, too, because as he came within visual range his other senses were already picking up the three Assault Class mechas lining up for an attack on his new boss.

As Kai narrowly avoided yet another of the E-Shadow's attacks, Kazuo mentally thought at him, *Hey man, ya got three big-ass mechs comin' up on ya. I'll see about takin' care of 'em for ya.*

This time it was Kai's turn to do the mental equivalent of nodding, as he was too busy trying not to get killed to do much else. Kazuo didn't try to extend their silent conversation any further, instead giving the three Maulers a taste of their own medicine and coming (fast) behind them.

Kazuo slowed dramatically as he did so, his wings whipping out around him as though to use the invisible solar winds for resistance. Instead, their luminous tips flared even brighter as innumerable incandescent feather-shaped missiles launched themselves at the three mechs, leaving lambent angel-hair contrails of light in their wake as they arched towards their targets.

Initiative Roll: (21:43:54) ChatBot: (Centimane) rolls 2d6 and gets 1,6. 14+7=21 total.

Three Attack Rolls: (22:50:22) ChatBot: (Centimane) rolls 6d6 and gets 6,1,1,4,4,6. 11+7+9=27, 11+5+9=25, 11+10+9=30.

Weapon's Current Configuration: rank +20, accurate +3, homing +6, muscle (1), penetrating +16, range +4, selective (1), spreading +6, backblast -1

The Perfected Form's rating in Spreading should mean the missiles catch all three mechas in each attack, right? (or are they not quite "adjacent" enough?)

Let me know if you need me to roll for Defense as well.

His attacks sliced through armor on all of them destroying weapons with each attack. He managed to get all three mecha's attention, and their return fire was amazing. He'd seen destroyers that couldn't match them, and there were over a hundred left on the battlefield. The firs salvo of missiles almost struck him, but through sheer luck they missed. Autocannon shells and laser bolts lit up the sky around him, but nothing actually connected.

Well, shit, thought Kazuo in annoyance, after seeing that his attacks hadn't really done much beyond attract attention and scratch up paint jobs. How tough were these things?

Clearly, the shotgun approach wasn't going to work and something different would be needed. Fine. Kazuo could handle that; and the Perfected Form of the Celestial Dog was more than up to the task. Time to try something a little more direct and brutal.

Behind his back, Kazuo's wings seemed to shrink to half their former size (which still left him with a wingspan of nearly 15 meters) while his streaming wingtips contracted and twisted into themselves, spiraling into tube-like shapes. In a manner that would've been physically impossible if his wings hadn't been made of pure energy at the moment, the twisting wingtips began spiraling around each other, building up speed and energy rapidly until they seemed to form solid barrels of light. Within the two spinning "barrels" the soft ameranthine glow of Kazuo's wings swiftly changed into a saffron blaze as the energy within became a cauldron of raw power.

The entire transformation, while complex, took only an instant's time, and then the two cauldrons at the ends of Kazuo's wings erupted, spewing out tight, nearly solid streams of hyper-luminal energy slugs with a rate of fire of a few thousand rounds per second. Like atomic railguns, the Perfect Form of the Celestial Dog spewed nigh-unstoppable machine gun volleys of nuclear power pouring across the vacuum of deep space at each of the mechas in turn.

Kazuo is targeting the mechas' torsos with these attacks, as per your rules in the Mecha Stats thread. I'm assuming that the torsos of 18 meter tall, giant humanoid robots count as "Large Targets", and therefore only impose a -1 penalty. But if I'm wrong just let me know. smile

All three volleys slammed into their targets, demolishing armor, strucuture and circuitry. The first Mauler, was nearly cut in half, and the other two were severely damaged. A second later the first Mauler's fusion reactor exploded, even as the other two lit up the void with their remaining weapons. Each of the Maulers hit with something, the first with a Large laser, the second with it's light autocannon, the depleted uranium tipped shells hammering Kazuo at extreme range.

(large laser is 120 damage, the Autocannon is 80)

Kai was fighting Hard against Takashi, but even the power of senbozakura was waning against Takashi's superior skills as a pilot, and experience with the utilizing his Banaki.

Kazuo grimaced at the pain from his newest wounds, but ignored them for the temporary distractions they were and kept his focus on taking down the three huge mechs. It took him a second to reform his wings after the battering they'd taken in defending him against the hail of DU shells and high-powered lasers, but only a second, and then his own hail of hyper-luminal energy slugs were pouring out on his enemies. Small, perfect spheroids of his own blood floated gently around him in the zero-G of open space while he fired on the drones, each spherical droplet flickering in the multi-hued light of his wings.

It was actually very pretty, but Kazuo took no notice.

Both Robots Exploded as their centerline collapsed, and There was a brilliant green Flash as Takashi and Kai engaged. The Meteor's huge buster rifle was knocked away, and vulcan cannon, knocked away the heat rod off the E-Shadow. Both mechs were banged up, with deep gounges and burned through wings. The Meteor was worse off, as sparks of lambent energy flickered around it's torso.

The E-Shadow had lost one of its legs below the knee, and there was no more of it's paintjob that'd been left unmarred.

Kazuo suprisingly heard a polite, yet strained request from Kai. "I could use a hand, I've got enough for one more big attack."

  • 1 month later...

"Yeah, yeah", Kazuo grouched psychically at Kai across the void of space that separated them, "Hold yer horses, bozu, I thought ya said ya could 'handle' 'im, anyway!"

Despite his thoughts, Kazuo nonetheless began to refocus his energies, planning to do just as Kai had requested and hit this Takashi motherfucker with just about everything he had.

His wings once again reformed, and once again became massive things made out of pure light, with several-meter-long 'feathers' of luminosity trailing off of each wingtip. As the mech-drones flared and burned with the strange sorts of fire capable of burning in space, Kazuo folded his wings forward on either side of him so that they were perpendicular to him and pointing straight ahead. Between the wings, a saffron blaze again lit up, quickly outshining the softer amaranthine glow of his wings-proper

This all took only a second or so. Then the saffron light between Kazuo's wings blazed further, until the light was pure white and blinding, and a beam of pure, coherent energy did not so much 'shoot out' from him as it did 'coalesce', suddenly and with fateful inevitability, as a whole and seemingly solid line of raw destructive force between Kazuo and Takashi.

The blast cored through the right side of the E-Shadow, Even As Millions of tiny blades struck from all directions across its body. The Great green energy blade amputated the Meteor's left arm and leg, and explosions rocked both mechs, as the E-Shadow exploded point blank with the Meteor.

Kazuo was able to see the remains of the Meteor impact just beneath the bridge of the Dominion, rattling the massive warship and breaching the hull. Kazuo had moments before the emergency harjel sealant would close the jagged metal hole in the hull, to see if Kai was alright.

(Checks mentally will not register anyone there.)

Kazuo watched as his new boss (or at least what was left of the mecha he'd been in) went crashing through the hull of the Dominion, then he rolled his one good eye in irritation and took off after him. He could already tell this kid was gonna take a lot of looking after...

Kazuo blasted at high velocity through the hole in the ship's hull, shedding his energy-wings (and his high speed) almost as soon as he was through and letting them revert back to their compact feathered forms as he folded them tightly against his back. As the harjel sealant closed off the hull-breach, Kazuo worked his way over to the remains of the Meteor, looking for anything resembling a cockpit. Having found a likely suspect he looked for anyplace he could fit his superhumanly strong fingers into and then started tearing away layers until he found something that looked like a Skeleton Key named Kai (or even just the remains of one).

As Soon as Kazuo's fingers gripped the outer plate, A Hatch seemed to form and he nearly broke off the whole assembly as it opened. Kai looked up at him, Bleeding and brusied, but very much awake and alert. "We have to get to the Bridge Kazuo, They're still fighting Hizashi, and Takashi went there."

He looked at the man who'd rescued him. "Even weakened, Takashi might have enough left to kill the others." He made a handsign with his good hand, the other was bloody and looked broken. Suddenly the door from the compartment opened, and was a panel of light. "Help me through it, and we'll make sure they all survive."

Kazuo wordlessly took in Kai's bruised, battered and bloody form and was privately both impressed and pleased, seeing that at least his new boss knew how to man-up and press on through the pain.

"Yosh*", was all he said as he reached into the cockpit and helped Kai out of it. Then they both turned and went through Kai's portal.

Yosh: Technically 'yoshi', it doesn't really have a literal translation, but is instead something one says to gear themselves up for something they're about to do. Can be translated as, 'okay', 'alright', 'let's do it!', and so on.
