The pair moved on, the two squads with them covering the rear and sides of the corridors as they delved further into the enemy fortress. After destroying three dozen enemy machines, and at least four barricade doors big enough to stop a mech, they finally made it to the room housing the nanocore.

Inside there was a small sphere about six feet across. Within there was a vaguely human form. From it hundreds of tendrils of metal coursed with power. From the walls more Ravagers began appearing. At the base of the core three mecha unlike anything they'd seen stood. Each one looked like a miniature Shadow Hawk, but they were only about ten feet tall. Their shoulder gatlings swung into level with them and One spoke. "You have breached our base, but you shall go no further. We have studied each of you, and you will not defeat us now."

Velocity gritted her teeth and wondered for a second why the ‘villians’ always had to announce that they were prepared now. She saw no real difference except for the size and decided to see if they were just bluffing or not… in the latter case she would at least be some kind of distraction and maybe provide Eiji with an opportunity for an attack.

With blindingly fast speed she circled around the mechs and forced them to divert their attention. Velocity remained defensively, though.

Eiji goes into a flat leap at the lead mini-ShadowHawk cutting an X across the front of it. Meanwhile the squads work to keep the Ravager's off Eiji and Velocity.

The two flanking Shadowhawls opened up on Velocity. Autocannon shells lead and trailed her, which she managed to avoid, but one missile nearly struck her in the head. A laser did takg her though leaving a burning line of fire across her back. (75 damage)

The center Shadow Hawk moved towars Eiji opening up with it's autocannon, barely missing taking Eiji's head clean off., It's lasers both missed too. His first slash connected, but did alot less damage than he figured it should. As he came around for the second, the metal monster's foot lashed out and kicked him hard in the side, sending him flying.

Velocity did well at first but then she seemed to take a wrong turn. She felt the burning fire on her back and cried out in pain as she lost momentum and skidded over the floor at near top speed.

God, that really hurt!

The young mutant got quickly back on her feet and decided that attacking would be the better option. These mechs were smaller – they probably were not better armoured than their larger brothers – she hoped.

Eiji's armour and forcefields absorbed the damage of the kick, but the force of it still sent him flying back towards the squad. Rolling back to his feet he briefly watched the rhythm of Velocity's attacks and then unleashed a pair of Thunderbolt Cuts from his sword. They sapped his energy, but were the best bet to damage the Mecha. He then slowly started forward again, dodging and parrying as he went.

Velocity's barrage of attacks hammered hard on the smaller Hawk on the right, opening rents in its armor all over, and even taking off the autocannon on its shoulder, but failing to put the machine down. It kicked her in stunning move and actually managed to connect, while it's laser and missiles missed wide.

80 damage

Eiji's attack caught both the other two in it's radius, but aside from some melted armor plating neither one seemed to be damaged too much, with both opening fire with all their weapons.

A pair of missiles hit, and a second blast from the laser.

three hits, each of 75 damage.

Velocity winced again in pain as the kick sent her off flying and smashing against the next wall. She considered briefly to just stay down losing the will to go on fighting. This was getting more and more tiring and annoying. But she was a hero – heroes never give up!

She stood up and started another attack aiming for the mini-mechs weaponry hoping to destroy or disarm it in the process.

Eiji shook of the mecha's attacks with little effect, but his forcefields were going to be rapidly depleted by this barrage of attacks. So with that in mind he activated his countermeasures and leapt into the attack.

Velocity's attacks managed to slag the missile rack and the Autocannon on one of the mechs, badly damaging it's right torso and left shoulder. It lashed out this time with a punch and kick combo that missed easily do to the damage she was inflicting, while the second mech aimed and blasted with it's autocannon. Through sheer luck, The autocannon caught the injured mecha in the knee, hammering it hard, and actually snapping that limb off, sending the mech to the ground.

Eiji's attacks connect, finally the mech's starting to show some damage. It replies with both laser and autocannon, the autocannon continuing to miss, but the laser once again bathing his chest in harsh searing light. (75 damage)

Velocity saw that Eiji was getting hit again so she changed her focus to taking down the Mech that was taking him on. Maybe it would drop fast enough before it got into a more dangerous position.

Eiji took the laser blast in the chest, but most of the beam had been dissipated by the rapidly weakening combined forcefields he had activated. He watched Velocity dashing in and dismantling a chunk of the ShadowMechs weaponry while he gathered himself for his next attacks then piled in himself with a pair of stikes at the main body.

Velocity saw an opening and a chance to quickly finish the wounded mech and pushed on with her assault landing another barrage of blindingly fast attacks on the crippled machine.

Eiji spun on the spot and leapt for the remaining mech, meticulously placing his blows on the torso of the Mech.

Eiji's attacs were catastrophic, the first creating a flaw in the armor, the second peircing straight into the mecha's core reactor, forcing it into immediate shutdown. Now they were alone in the room with the human sized sphere. One of the troopers looked to Eiji. "We can blast it and knock it out, or we can try to sever it's connections with the base and take it back sir, Your call."

"Our orders were that this was an unusual piece of tech for the Circ's - so I guess we better get it out of there and see if we can lug it home."

So saying he starts to examine the connections along with the most qualified of the troopers - if there is nothing to disconnect then he will order the men back and sever the connections with his sword.

Eiji shrugs, "Hell, she'll be easier to carry than the whole of that lot. Right, you got 10 seconds, and then we are dashing for the evac point. If anything gets in our way then blast through it and keep going. Only privso is that no-one gets left behind. 10 seconds on my mark."

Dropping his forcefields for a while, both in order to pick the woman up and to regenerate the field, Eiji checks his ammo on his rifle and does a visual examination of his sword for any damage against the mecha.

At the end of the 10 seconds he florishes his sword and starts off back the way they had come at a jog - restarting his forcefields and countermeasures before they had left the room.
