Big Eyes, Small Mouth (BESM): In the Shadows of the City - The Story

In the Feudal era, the world was fully of mystery and magic. Japan Stood far above any other locale in the sheer concentration of both however. This abundance quickly became a curse as the Oni and other creatures from the Realm of Shadows began to migrate enmass to the tiny Island nation. The wars fought between man and Oni were cataclysmic, resulting in immense loss of life, and of a profound loss of knowledge. The Creatures of Shadow were by and large removed from this world, and almost all the Magic sealed away.

Now centuries later, Magic is slowly returning to the world, seeping through the cracks of the great seal, and imbuing whom it would with power. This Omen bodes ill however, as it also means the Seal that has barred the Oni from this world has also begun to fracture and crack.

All of the high schools in the ward have been shut down save one. The students are transported to other schools in neighboring wards, leaving only the one remaining Private School, Kiyamori Academy. The Academy has seen a rash of strange incidents lately and it's Directors have though about closing it down as well, but wealthy backers of the school have blunted any and all attempts to shut it's doors, saying they've invested far to much for strange happenings to get in the way of their children's futures.

IF only those fools knew the half of it.

The Oni are back. First it started in the Southern wards of Tokyo. A marked increase in the number of murders. Truly grisly affairs if the rumors told were to be believed. People being eaten and disemboweld, torn apart and left to die, bodies with all the blood drained out, the list went on and on. Many of the Elderly began practicing old methods of keeping the "bad spirits" away, but the murders kept on. There was no discrimination in it, all walks of life were represented in the victims. The police lines were clogged 24/7 with reports of strange events occcurring, from poltergeist-like Item stacking to seing the obviously dead rise and walk about.

The creatures of shadow have returned, and they stalk the night for food, souls, and those who would do anything for power, even sacrfice their humanity.

It was as though madness had infected the entire Island, which in the end, was unofficially blockaded and quarantined by the rest of the world. Automated Supply ships with Elite squads of Soldiers on board kept trade alive with the tiny Island nation, but it was clear that no person would be allowed to leave the Island nation until the madness was ended.

Kiyamori Academy is one of the last places to begin manifesting signs of strange incidents, and nobody knows why. Things are coming to a head in Tokyo, and this is where all of you come in.

Each of you has been touched by true Magic, imbueing you with a power no normal human has. Each of you, through fortune or fate, has come to possess a magical Item from an age past. You have been instructed to end the madness pllaguing Japan, and set right what is wrong, and repair the boundaries between this world and the world of Shadow.
