Big Eyes, Small Mouth (BESM): Nexus Earth - Chapter Five Prelude II: Recon

It was a clear day in the Far East as the drop pod cleared the bay of the Nighthawk bomber. The descent was easy to manage and the landing easily what was to be expected. A voice chimed in clear tones. "You are on target for landing, you have two minutes to remove yourself from the vicinity until the pod self-destructs, Thank you."

The computer voice of EVE, reminded him as he set foot onto Japanese soil.

It was his mission to find out just what the hell happened here, and what exactly the tiny island nation had dragged the rest of the world into. China laid in smoking ruin, over a billion dead if reports were to be believed. There was panic everywhere in the outside world, and the governments held on through the use of martial law. Then Satoshi industires, or at least a task force of futuristic men and machines bearing their colors and emblem attacked the United States, crippling the War Machine of the powerful nation and moving so far inland as to take control of the Nuclear missile silos in Montana and Nebraska.

The world was going to hell in handbasket, and Japan lay at the center of it all.

The small metal coffin bombed towards Earth seemingly from nowhere. The craft that it departed from was entirely out of view as the pod reached maximum velocity. Geoff held onto the small handles, muttering to himself about the inconceivable terror that the fellas in R&D in the service seemed to enjoy so much. Though his mission perimeters were clear Geoff had not a single notion as to how to go through with it. He'd head to the only place with people and that was Tokyo. EVE sounded off some words that Geoff didn't particularly care to let register in his mind as the only noise he could hear was the booming winds outside his box. It was designed to make impact as easy as possible. In the moments before landing, Geoff asked EVE if they'd improved on this latest model.

Geoff liked to keep his head clear. He liked to seem as classy as possible. But this was hard to do when you're vomiting and it was a problem that Geoff always knew he had. So when he began vomiting due to the impact he was glad to know he landed in the middle of nowhere and was even happier to know that he'd prepared for this by wearing a green jumpsuit for easy changing. He stepped outside the pod and quickly removed his vomit-cover to reveal the buttoned down dress shirt and blazer. A single duffel bag was removed from the pod as Geoff began the jog towards the closest city. A massive explosion sounded all traces of the pod were vaporized.

He was young, sure, But his hair incorporate a dashing amount of gray to indicate the sheer amount of experience he had with stress. It was kept short and messy but it was endearing. Back in training he was regarded as the most attractive failure to ever set foot into the barracks, everyone thinking that the drive required to joined the British Armed Forces wasn't something that Geoff possessed. But here he was, years later, on a top secret voyage into the unknown like that of Captain Jack O'Neil and James Bond.

The city in and of itself is standing, but all of the truly large buildings are gone. There don't seem to be any people, but that can always be misleading. It's then that he hears something. It's a shrill whine and then the ground shakes. Around the corner, a fifteen meter Robot appears, it's blue, white and grey armor marking it as a Machine from Satoshi's Seventh Response Team. The rail gun on it's right shoulder was pointed up, but the vulcans on either side of it's head traversed the ground. It bore a beam rifle in one hand and a guge shield on the left arm. It was obviously looking for something.

It walked on past, it's forty ton tread failing to break the roadway, but nonetheless still shaking it as it continued on, back towards where the pod had exploded.

Geoff kept his back against the building, not taking any chances in peeking around any corners. All was well and fine for him until the silence broke. He was reading the silence as something more then it was. Who knew what kind of sensors this monstrosity of Satoshi contained within its steel-plated walls. Geoff took of running down the side of the building and slammed into a door, bashing through it. He'd prefer not to be seen by whatever group held military superiority inside of Tokyo because they'd probably not take kindness in his heritage or unofficial mission. "Must be the gavvers" He said to himself as he ascended the stairs if the nearly dilapidated building. "This whole country's barmy. Guess I got the Best of the British so I better belt up." He said again, turning onto another set of stairs."

The Mecha moved on, seemingly oblivious to him. Behind it, a hlafdozen battlearmor wearing troopers followed, each of them carrying some sort of futuristic assault rifle. The Saoshi personnel were quick but for some reason they didn't seemed to be inspecting everything.

Geoff made it to the top of the seven story building and got a good view of the surrounding area. The landscape was mostly rubblepile, but The roads had very obviously been cleared away, probably by one of the mechs. One thing was clear, there was nobody alive near him except the Satoshi team, and them seeing him didn't strike him as great idea.

Geoff took a seat on the building, rummaging through the duffel bag. He pulled out a standard issue MRI and stared it down. "I must be off my trolley." He mumbled to himself as he took a bite into it. He looked a little disgusted but flushed the face away almost immediately. He put the unfinished MRI into his pack then headed back down the stairs once he decided the coast was clear. He'd made up his mind to go further into the city and head towards the docks.

He makes his way into the city, and can tell that recontruction is being carried out. He nears the harbor and can see the ships being unloaded by mecha and the material look like they're for making housing and in some cases, parts of a factory. Alot of the Activity seems to be located North of the school, but there's a fair amount of construction materials heading for the school, and at least two large flatbed trucks worth of foodstuffs. Clearly, the school is where much of the remaining population is located.

"These wankers best not throw a wobbler." He bet that the mechs heading towards his touchdown had found his pod and radioed back to search the area. Being caught was something he'd rather not happen but it was no surprise. He walked about as if he was a tourist in crowds of people, which made it even funnier as he was the only one about. His knife was stashed on his ankle but he had no doubts he'd be searched.

The Power armor squad stopped, and all raised their rifles. "Halt right there!" What followed next was a check of credentials and the discovery but not confiscation of all his weaponry.

After ten minutes they recieved instructions. "We're to bring you to Captain Ishiyama for questioning. He seeks to personnally hear why you have violated the sovreign nation of Japan's soil."

The squad lowers their weapons as one of the silver mecha arrive. "Pilot Rowe will convey us to him with the greatest speed. I trust you will comply willingly?"

Throughout the initial interrogation of his presence and the checking of his credentials Geoff kept up his charade of looking at the buildings, and answering questions with questions about Japan. Just general things, like the history of a building and the like. It took a while but he did everything with a smile. When they finally got instructions. "Take me to the gaffer then, Guv. Course a gumby like yourself are going to make me feel like a need a barrister, aren't ya?" He smiled, knowing that the japanese probably didn't get his slang.

The mecha hand descended and lifted them all up and quickly carried them to the school where they debarked and found Raisho waiting. The brought him to an unused classroom. The door was locked and He was now alone with Raisho. "Alright Geoff Brookhaven, tell me why you have come to Japan. None of the bullshit you gave my subordinates, as you can see we have some pressing issues that need handling."

He does his best to be civil, but he's clearly agitated.

"Yes you are. An unknown not registered in any database on the islands shows up when several VIP's go missing? That is a big thing that merits the attention of a Captain Now I'll ask politely one last time. Why are you here in Japan when it is in a state of disaster and who do you represent?"

"Alright, Sir."

He cut the accent out of his voice entirely. "I'm here under my own accord. I am an ex officer of the British SAS so I am very familiar with the operations and precautions you take. I like to find my way into these troublesome spots on the Earth and take notes, no more and no less. If I deem the information worthy enough, I submit it to British Intelligence then I receive compensation for my troubles. Given the blackout of information coming from this area I deemed the location important enough to travel to. We can discuss this at length if you'd like to get me some tea. Otherwise I'd like to continue on my sightseeing while you figure out your little crime."

With a smile, he let the accent through. "If you got the ace notion, get the Gaffers to compensate my trouble and I could have a butchers into your trouble."

Raisho smiles. "British Intelligence." He chuckles.

"I'll go you one better. I'll pay you a Six-hundred-k fee as a consultant. We've been incommunicado with the rest of the world right now, and I'd very much like to hear what everyone thinks happened on this side of the pond."

"I don't want any bullshit, just what has happened in the last two weeks in the world beyond our waters, and your opinion of what it all means. If I like your answer, I may have more work for you."

Geoff visually comtemplated the offer, than decided that earning trust was better than otherwise. He'd cut out the slang since it wasn't necessary.

"Two weeks ago most of the Chinese Seaboard disappeared without survivors. Militant forces here were actually a surprise as no one has expected such a thing. Satoshi has crippled the US, decimating its lands and obliterating all military forces. Though the US 2nd Fleet with the 82nd Mobile are rumored to be heading here."

"Great, we get one three sided tango finished, and now we have another."

He frowns. "I'd prefer to avoid having to destroy the US Fleet. I don't suppose you have communications protocols for them? We are not affiliated with the rogue elements that attacked the American Mainland. I'd hate for a misunderstanding to lead to further suffering and work for my team."

An emergency call comes through and Raisho smiles. "Well yer off the hook on one count Our Missing VIP just showed back up. I'd prefer not to keep you under guard so I'm gonna have you come with me."

With that Raisho escorts Geoff to a dropship that leaves soon after they board.
