Mithril
Any hardcore OpNet geeks care to help me out? I'm having some weird issues with my still-in-warranty Apple OpBook Pro Titanium.
Muse
Could you define weird? I know how to deal with most computer issues. Many of them have come about do my love of making my own.
Mithril
Thanks for the offer, but I got tired of waiting for a reply and just took it to the local Apple Store. They copied all my stuff to another brand new one.I could get used to this celebrity stuff.
Sakurako Hino
Okay, you're using an Apple brand machine... Is it using a Viasoft OS? Seems that even these days Viasoft and Apple just don't get along.Ever thought of using Linux? It's free, and has programs that do just as much, or sometimes even more, than anything Viasoft and Apple dish out.
Mithril
Linux? No thanks. I'd rather not live in my parents' basement and fap to nova porn.
Vixen
Advance warningIf this thread turns into a flamewar over operating systems, I will kill you all.Thank you.

Sakurako Hino
Meh, just stating possibilities. I program my own OS, so it's no issue for me. Making the necessary patching for making other OSes understand my devices is slightly annoying.

Origami
All this talk of operating systems.I still use a typewriter for my writing, and I'm proud of it, damnit. Then again, these forums are addictive. Have to use this confounded terminal Sakurako has over here though. Never thought I'd use a transparent keyboard in my time. But enough about that. Things still going well, Mithril, and is it a good brand? Perhaps I might start to adapt to a wired age after all. Typewriter ribbons and correction paper are expensive. Mithril
What's a "typewriter?"
Origami
Well, you know that keyboard you use at an OpNet terminal? Think of where it was originally concieved.Even better; check out the OpWiki for information. In fact, my old betsy looks like the blue one in the example... just a bit older. 1920's vintage to be exact. Matryoshka
Okay so Origami you use a tool that has a physical limit to the speed of your writing..Because why? With what I work with we either need to redefine what a computer is or come with a new word for what I use. Really people need to get out of the dark ages of digital information.
Lou Anne Burgess
Um... the only thing digital about a typewriter are the fingers used to press the keys. Typewriters are analogue, particularly a manual typewriter like Origami is referencing.
Matryoshka
I am very well aware of this, I am referring to the fact most people are still using computers that are digital. We are living in an age of suppressed information after all.
Vixen
Since we've swung back to keyboards and typewriters, I'll ask:Is anyone else, besides me, trained on DVORAK? I never learnt to type before my eruption and it seemed as good a system to start with. I have one of those keyboards on the family computer that's got a miniature LCD screen in each key, so I can switch it back for those applications that hate the other layout. Second, I don't have to save every minute or risk data lost. After losing a chapter I was working on 3 times... well, I discovered losing one page in a typewriter is far better than losing a few hours work in one power outage.Speed isn't of the importance here. Muse
Origami, you live a primative life. I am sorry.
Leliel
If Origami is happy with his life, then why say sorry? Quality of life and enlightenment is measured in far more things then technological advancement. Hell, I still use an old DEC VT78 PDP8 system for some applications. Part of it is sentimentality, other parts are practicality. If it is efficient for the function, what is the problem?

Tempest
Even if it isn't efficient, who cares? It's not like it's really going to affect anyone other thatn Origami. Okay, well maybe her editor's deadlines, but really.Oh and Mithril? I agree. Tres tacky.
