Prologue: Fallow Fields and Morning Dew

The members of Fox's Refuge stop a zombie assault on their compound.

Chapter 1: What Tales Can the Dead Tell

Fox, James, Rachel and Jennifer/Violet investigate an enclave to the north that has been destroyed. They find evidence that the town's defenses were breached before the zombies came. Everyone in the town is dead or undead, save a woman and her daughter in the rubble. The woman, Susan, tells them that there was research occurring there, and that a base out in Roanoke, Virginia, might have been the source of the attack. Her husband was a scientist there, and she overheard mentions of 'gateways' or 'portals.' He never told her exactly what he was doing, though.

Important NPCs: Susan, wife to a scientist; Jenny, their daughter.

Chapter 2: Chasing a Bee

An attempt to raid the armory at Lawton, OK, goes terribly wrong when the convey is ambushed by another super-person. He/she is killed in combat, but not before thwarting the attempt completely. Morgan's sister-in-law arrived just in time to lose her only remaining child to an apparent super-zombie. Disheartened, the group returns to base.

Important NPCs: Nihilist (dead); Benjamin Fox (dead).

Chapter 3a: Regrouping

The team arrives home and begins to plan another attempt on Lawton. Tensions in the compound are escalating as more and more people become tired of the perceived inequalities between the supers and everyone else. The shortage of women doesn't help the situation, either. Jules offers a solution - there is a prison in western New Mexico where the wardens are holding female prisoners in intolerable conditions.

Chapter 3b: Beavers and Bovines

Lost Bridge Village on Beaver Lake in Arkansas is an underground enclave, probably about as safe and secure as you can find. The supers that converged here found a less than warm welcome, once they learned how ruthless the leader of the enclave could be.

Important NPCs: Dick, leader of the Lost Bridge Village Enclave; Ricardo, his head of security; Murray, a security guard; Linda, the registered nurse that is the only medical care available to the facility; Min Wesson, Wesson's granddaughter.

Chapter 4a: Blood and Darkness

The team from Fox's Refuge heads back to Lawton to clean out the armory. Once there, they run into a pit of tar-baby super-zombies. The team recovers what it can and vows to return and finish things off later.

Chapter 4b: Fox's Refuge

Most of the supers exiled from Beaver Lake show up at Fox's Refuge, just as a new face, Jasmine, arrives. They are welcomed, mostly without reservation, despite their news. Gabrielle in particular has to explain her dark tale, where the leader of her former enclave had her infected with Zombie-virus and sent to Beaver Lake to sicken them. Fortunately, she became a super instead of succumbing to the virus, and now wishes to remove Elijah from power.

Chapter 4c: Let There Be Light

Wesson makes one more attempt to reach out to the leader of the Lost Bridge Village Enclave, which is rebuffed by a haughty Dick.

Important NPCs: Dick, leader of the Lost Bridge Village Enclave; Murray, a security guard; Min Wesson, Wesson's granddaughter.

Chapter 4d: Cassandra

A lone traveler, wandering the dusty Oklahoma back roads, meets a strange woman. In attempting to take care of her, he becomes caught up in the larger events surrounding her. (This story is a wonderful example of the kind of characterization and interaction that I think makes Dead Rising so great. I encourage everyone to read this chapter, for the good story if no other reason.)

Important NPCs: Cassandra, Oracle and Ira's 'Baby'.

Chapter 5a: Zealotry

The members of Fox's Refuge head north to remove a threat to the stability of the human race. Elijah has gathered people in Hays with the express intention of infecting as many people as possible. As Fox's group arrives, two strangers arrive, named James Bond and Primal. After a brief fight, Elijah is dead and his people free to choose their own path.

Important NPCs: Elijah, leader of the Hays Enclave (dead); Gabrielle's family.

Chapter 5b: The Trial

Jon Albright reveals the parasites living in him and convinces Fox that he's not a danger. After this talk, he goes home to check on Maddie.

Important NPCs: Maddie, Jon's lab partner and lover.

Chapter 5c: Fire in the Hole

Ira and Wesson arrive at the Refuge and are placed in Quarantine. As darkness falls, Walker joins them as well, along with the scientists from the former Roff enclave. All too soon, they are under attack as an attempt is made to kill Colonel Kiet.

Important NPCs: Cassandra, Oracle and Ira's 'Baby'; Colonel Kiet, Commander of the Western Tennessee Outpost of the Reclaimed United States; Henry Walpesh, scientist of the former Roff Enclave; Min Wesson, Wesson's granddaughter.

Important NPCs: Colonel Kiet, Commander of the Western Tennessee Outpost of the Reclaimed United States; Henry Walpesh, scientist of the former Roff Enclave.

Chapter 6a: Redemption

Gabrielle remains behind with the Hays Enclave, hoping to rebuild their community in a positive way. But forces and powers are already amassing before her.

Important NPCs: Caleb, Gabrielle's First Apostle; Han, a super.

Chapter 6b: From the Ashes

After the event in Fire in the Hole, the supers gather to work out what happened. Cassie delivers the Book to Myf, while Kiet's life hangs in the balance. Fox learns what happened while he was gone.

Important NPCs: Colonel Kiet, Commander of the Western Tennessee Outpost of the Reclaimed United States; Cassandra, Oracle and Ira's 'baby'.
