Background

Olivia Sachi Jennings-Izumi is a twenty-two year-old graduate who grew up in a loving middle-class family. Her father, Haruo (Harry) Izumi, and half-brother, Wakaki (Wacki-Z) Izumi, are naturalized citizens from Japan; her mother, Delayha Jennings, grew up in New Orleans in a much poorer mixed family. Harry is a graphic artist and professional dreamer; Wacki-Z is a rap artist trying to break into the big time. Delayha is a technical writer for a large computer company. Olivia grew up in a creative, secure environment where she was encouraged to follow her dreams. Her parents overdid it a bit.

Reality was a shock. During college, she suffered from disillusion. She majored in journalism, but found that she didn't like it as much as she thought she would. With the real world and the pains of college bearing down on her, she dropped out and moved into an apartment with her boyfriend, Bill. A few months later, she left him and move back home with her parents, suffering from a breakdown. It took a long time, but she gradually recovered, skipping three semesters in total.

During her breakdown, Harry kept giving her his history books. It was love. As an adult, Olivia found history enthralling in a way she never did. She wanted to write historical books, she decided, so when Olivia finally returned to school, she dual-majored in Journalism and History. She remained in Journalism because she was almost done with the degree and it seemed better to finish instead of leaving it undone.

After graduation, she entered the workforce and found that as an unpublished author, she couldn't get much work. She went back to school again and received a Masters in Library Sciences and a doctorate in History.

During her thesis for her History degree, she came across Dr. Daniel Jackson's work on Egyptian history. Though widely discredited, she was intrigued and noted it for a later study. And after graduation, she followed his research.

Despite being interesting, Olivia didn't think she could make it work. After all, academia is very harsh against anything that didn't reinforce the paradigm. There was nothing new there for proof. But she kept digging, and found a link, a real link, to a non-standard history of Egypt. Excited, she wrote an article. It was denied based on peer review. She found a position teaching in academia at a small college, but couldn't earn tenure. Realizing that she'd never make it stick in academia, she wrote a pop-science book and sent it off for publication.

In staggeringly fast succession, her book was rejected, her proof disappeared and her work was dismissed by a historian she consulted for help. And then the call came from the IOA.

Olivia is a little angry at what happened to her, but she also understands why the government reacted the way it did. For now, she focuses on her work and tries to the best she can.

Appearance

This 'Blasian' is a real mixing pot, and the make-up of her genetics has given her an exotic look. Despite that, she doesn't do her hair or make-up to maximum potential. If she ever tries, she'll knock them dead. For now, she's content to merely knock them slightly dizzy.

Off-duty, Olivia favors clothing over being naked, and that's about as far as she thinks about it. On-duty, she shows that she can consider what she wears, usually dressing impeccably in her uniform or whatever is appropriate for the occasion. She has just enough style to compliment her appearance, but not enough to make her really stand out.

Personality

Olivia is driven. She considers her breakdown to be lost time, and she is making up for it. While she knows that she can't publish any of this, she's gathering information just in case it goes public. If it does, and if it gets declassified, she's going to be a million-dollar novelist. She's writing some fiction now, but has to be very careful due to her job. It feels very stifling to her, so sometimes, she cuts loose a little too much when she's off-duty.
