Abilities/Special Skills: Warren is incredibly intelligent and knows a great many things. He possesses nearly a hundred thousand books all scattered about his New York lair in various chaotic piles.

Personality: Quiet and usually very solemn. Warren is antisocial by nature due to the severe trauma he endured during his eruption. He is dark and introspective but headstrong and reckless to a fault relying a bit too much on his own perceived immortality. Like a true revenant, Warren feels that there is a reason he has returned from the grave. He longs for a final death and hopes that his deeds will someday earn him the right to pass from this world on good terms.

Revenant is not stupid; he realizes that he is a nova. Like most however, he has attached a philosophy or belief system behind his powers: he believes he has risen from the grave for a purpose and until he fulfills that purpose he may not rest peacefully.

Personal Interests: He enjoys poetry, old books, and esoteric trivia. He is also a fantastic cook, capable of creating many fine entrées. Although he no longer needs to eat, he loves to enjoy great food.

Background: Febuary 9th, 1987 at 2:46am, Warren Jillian Verona was born to Maria and Antonio Verona at Mt. Clemens General Hospital in Mt. Clemens, Michigan.

On May 23rd 1998 at 7:22pm, also known as ‘N-Day’ in world history, was a ground breaking event in human evolution. With the explosion of the Galatea Satellite and the eruption of novas that followed the world was introduced to a new breed of humans capable of feats that were nothing short of Godly. That day also had a darker side. A side of fear and violence as people were plagued with uncertainty as their cities and hometowns changed over night.

Detroit was such a city. Ravaged by fear and human insecurity riots broke out that left the city in shambles. Warren, now eleven, and his parents were unfortunate victims in those riots. When ‘End of the World’ elitists came to call on the apartment complex the Verona family lived in Warren’s life changed forever. The Verona family was one of several families whose apartments there broken into as the elitists stormed through the complex in the chaos of the riots searching for the ‘demons’ erupting around the world.

Mr. Verona, in an attempt to protect his family got into an altercation with the elitists and was shot once in the chest. Young Warren attempted to protect his mother as best he could but was shot twice in the chest, the last thing he saw was his mother fall to the floor beside him as one more gunshot filled his fading senses.

Eruption: Warren did not die. The stress of the situation triggered his latency and he erupted just moments before the bullets tore through his chest. Before his node seized the opportunity to imbue him with any powers he was fatally injured. The eight minutes it took his brain to die was just enough time for his node to compensate and reassign its priorities from the distribution of power, to self-preservation.

For all intents and purposes, Warren was dead, and no coroner could tell any different. The cause of death was obvious and no autopsy was performed. The bullets were removed and a funeral was held for the eleven-year-old boy.

His ‘sleep’ was plagued with visions of death, revenge, and power. His final thoughts were of failure to protect his family, and while it certainly wasn’t his fault, it weighed on his conscience nonetheless. Two weeks after being interred into the earth to be mourned and forgotten young Warren snapped awake.

Darkness.

Buried ‘alive’ Warren panicked, he cried and called out for help, but no one heard him or came to his aide. For hours he cried, hoping against hope that someone would realize the mistake and come for him. He discovered that he didn’t feel the need to draw a breath, nor was he hungry or thirsty. He threw himself into a panic induced frenzy punching, flailing, and kicking.

It took the poor boy two weeks of non-stop banging against his coffin lid and digging. A cold stormy night portended his rebirth. He rose from the muddy soil; his fingers were nearly wore to the bone, drenched and enraged. Warren looked about as the thunder rolled and lightning crashed. He had risen from the dead; he was no longer a child, or a human being…

He was undead, a Revenant.

Enhancements: Dexterity (Enhanced Movement), Stamina (Adaptability, Regeneration), Charisma (Dreadful Mein) Manipulation (Hypnotic Gaze)

Powers

Incorporeal ●●●

(Density Decrease, Level 2)

Strengths: Subsume The Spirit. By overlapping his spiritual form over a physical body Revenant may Embody without the need for eye contact.

Weaknesses: Stunted Power Use. While he is incorporeal Revenant may not make use of his Outrage ability.

Effect: Revenant, like the specters of legend, may become semi-transparent. By distorting his corpus Revenant is able to touch the lands of death and shadow, casting his physical body between the spirit world and the realm of the living. This permits him to walk through solid surfaces and renders most mortal weaponry ineffectual.

Outrage

(Quantum Bolt, Level 2)

Extras: Explosion

Strengths: Explosion added w/out increasing the power level (+3)

Weaknesses: Reduced Range: Self (-3)

Effect: Revenant is a being fueled by raw emotion. In dire straights he may summon forth the very essence of pathos and unleash it in a devastating assault upon the physical world. An opaque sphere explodes outward, centered on him, and rends everything to shreds. Objects are broken or shattered, books are torn to pieces, etc. Anyone caught in the area of the explosion sees nothing but a monochrome world devoid of color, twisted and misshapen; a portal to the lands of the dead.

Living beings caught in the blast have their life force directly attacked, becoming weak, pale, and finding it difficult to draw breath as their body gives up living. Those killed by this attack have their ‘souls’ ripped from their bodies in a quantum display of a ghostlike persona of themselves being knocked brutally from the host body. The corporeal body falls limply to the ground afterward as the ‘soul’ is torn to shreds; discarded to Oblivion.

Revenant is immune to this effect, obviously. Since it destroys everything in it’s path and is less than subtle, he is reluctant to make use of it. He is working on a way to concentrate it.

Enshroud ●●●

(Invisibility, Level 2)

Weaknesses: Chill Of The Grave. While wrapped in The Shroud the temperature around Revenant seems to drop the longer he stays in one place. Those nearby will feel the hairs on the back of their neck stand on end and often be able to see their breath if he lingers close by for too long. In any event, while he may be invisible, his presence is always sure to make others feel creepy. Technology tends to act weird while he is in this state, video cameras catch images that aren't there, televisions display static, etc.

Effect: Grabbing the fabrics of the living realm The Revenant pulls tightly on the shroud and wraps him self in the shadows between the realm of the living and the dead. While in this state he is completely invisible.

Embody ●●●

(Domination, Level 3)

Extras: Parasitic Possession

Strengths: One Scene Duration (+2)

Effect: Like a true spirit Revenant possesses the power to completely dominate the body of a creature. By breaking his corporeal body down into spiritual essence Revenant inhabits a victims spirit, taking complete control of the unfortunate individual.

Sheep’s Clothing ●●●●●

(Psychic Shield, Level 1)

Extras: Impervious

Strengths: Impervious added w/out increasing the power level (+3)

Weaknesses: Linked: Simultaneous w/no dice penalty cannot use Psychic Shield at all except in conjunction with Domination. (-5)

Effect: As he skin rides a victim Revenant’s mind is all but impervious to psychic assaults. It’s nearly impossible discern the victims thoughts from his own. Any assault upon Revenant’s mind while he embodies a subject that succeeds affects the subjects mind just as much as it does Revenants. Telepaths may get memories from the victim or from Revenant. Both the victim and Revenant share psychic assaults that inflict damage.

Quirks

Broken Will: Revenant’s will power is almost shattered by the hand of his current dominating mistress. Five years of psychic conditioning has rendered his will weak and malleable. Revenant begins with a Willpower of ●● and he may not raise it through XP or NP, only through role-play and successful achievements may he begin to recapture his own self-confidence and realize his potential.

Psychic Conditioning: Revenant mind is weak and malleable against psychic powers. As a result anyone using the following power against him receive +2 dice to their die pool: Domination, Hypnosis, Mental Blast, Mirage, Holo or Telepathy.

The only exception to this weakness is while Revenant is making use of his Embody power. During this time ‘Sheep’s Clothing’ is active and he is almost immune to any mental attacks. During this time the +2 bonus dice do not apply.

Anti-Social: Being a jaded recluse Revenant suffers a +2 difficulty to all social rolls.

Stunted Quantum Regeneration: Power is usually a double-edged sword. Being dead Revenant hates that he will no longer be among the living and must steal bodies in order feel ‘alive’. Hate is a powerful emotion. It is emotions like hate, anger, and rage that powers his abilities and allows him to sustain his undead existence so he may continue is quest for vengeance.

In order to regain quantum Revenant must surround himself by the living while they are in various acts of enjoying life. Clubs, parties, sporting events, anything will do, but he must be present and able to see all that is going on. By watching the living enjoy what is now denied to him, his suffering grows, and with his growing suffering comes greater power. Although Revenant is mostly riding on hate any and all emotions are sufficient to restore his quantum pool. Negative and positive emotions refill his pool at the normal nova rate per hour.

Extremely powerful negative emotions may grant instant quantum points (1-3) while (unknown to Revenant) positive emotions are capable of much, much more. Unfortunately most nova and mortal are not capable of understanding emotion on such grand levels. Without emotions to feed from Revenant regains quantum at the rate of 1/day as his body naturally refuels itself on ambient emotional energies.

Revenant calls quantum, 'pathos'.

Shadow Revenant

Birth Name: Shady McNasty (It makes me feel as if I’m somebody…)

Alias: The Shadow, “Would You Shut Up Please”

Nature: Bravo (with a pinch of Jester and a splash of lime)

Eruption: I’m with stupid.

Allegiance: Me baby! All me!

Physical: Strength ●●●●, Dexterity ●●●, Stamina ●●●●●

Athletics ●●●●, Brawl , Drive ●, Endurance ●●●, Firearms ●●, Legerdemain ●●●●, Martial Arts ●●●●, Melee ●, Might , Pilot , Resistance ●●●, Stealth ●●●●

Mental: Perception ●●●, Intelligence ●●●●●, Wits ●●●●

Academics ●●●, Arts ●, Awareness ●, Biz , Bureaucracy , Computer ●●, Engineering , Intrusion ●●●●, Investigation , Linguistics , Medicine , Rapport , Science , Survival ●●

Social: Charisma ●●●, Manipulation ●●●, Appearance ●●●

Command , Etiquette , Interrogation , Intimidation ●●, Perform , Streetwise ●●●●, Style , Subterfuge

Backgrounds: Same as Revenant. Some may not be accessed as Shadow Revenant however. Those should be obvious, but I’ll explain it if I have to.

Mega-Attributes: Strength ●, Stamina ●, Perception ●, Appearance ●

Enhancements: Strength (Unstoppable Force), Stamina (Regeneration), Perception (Blind-Fighting), Appearance (Copy Cat*)

*No matter who he copies, he always looks like a Shadowed version. This makes the enhancement almost useless for what it was intended for.

Powers

As Inevitable As Your Shadow ●●●

(Bodymorph: Shadow (Density Decrease ●●, Invisibility ●), Level 2)

Weaknesses: Invisibility is limited to shadows and darkness only, this is a limitation of the power itself and does not qualify for any ‘weakness points’.

Effect: Although flesh and blood, The Shadow may discorporate itself into pure darkness.

When Darkness Falls

(Shroud, Level 2)

Effect: The Shadow is a creature of pure darkness. It embodies the pure negative emotions and the self-destructive nature of Revenant. It is most at home in the substance of his creation, pulling it around him like a dark mantle of gloom and sorrow.

How To Make A Monster

(Quantum Imprint, Level 3)

Extras: Range, Enhanced Imprint

Strengths: Range added w/out increasing the power level (+3), Enhanced Imprint added w/out increasing the power level. (+3)

Weaknesses: Linked: Simultaneous w/no dice penalty cannot use Quantum Imprint at all except in conjunction with Clone. (-5), Does not function in areas of bright light (-1).

Effect: By merely looking at another individual The Shadow may see their qualities and their flaws. He then takes that potential and weaves it into a creature spawned from their own failings.

Shadow Clone

(Clone, Level 2)

Strengths: Lowered the power level to Level 2 (+5)

Weaknesses: Clones have a Stamina soak of 0 (-3), Clones gain only half the normal soak from quantum powers (-2)

Effect: By calling out to a person’s negative emotions The Shadow pulls forth their darker most inner demons and gives them substance in the shape a perfect shadowy duplicate. The Shadow Clone is in every way shape and for a perfect match save that it is obviously made of shadow stuff.

Like the Shadow itself the Clones are all self-destructive and immediately seek to destroy the victim of this vile power. Being made of shadow-stuff however they are frail and do not gain any sort of soak from Stamina or Mega-Stamina (even from enhancements) giving all clones an effective soak total of 0. If the Clone is created from a nova who posses quantum powers that provide a soak rating (Armor, Invulnerability) then the clone receives only one half the total permitted soak from the power, rounded up.

Example: Vile Bill faces his own Shadow Clone. The Clone receives none of Vile Bill’s soak gained from stamina, but does gain Vile Bill’s armor power. While Vile Bill benefits from the full +9L/+9B to his soak, the Clone only receives a +5L/+5B. After all is said and done Vile Bill’s soak total is 15L/20B vs. Shadow Bill’s 5L/5B.

All of the Shadows are vulnerable to light. Anything brighter than dim streetlights, or twilight will cause the Shadow Clones to flicker out and die. Anyone shining bright lights (headlights on high beams, flashlight, the Bioluminescence power) can cause the Shadow Clones a great deal of pain. They suffer 6 dice of damage per turn they spend in areas with too much light. They gain no soak against this damage, even if they imprinted nova powers that provide them with a soak score.

If a nova with bioluminescence attacks a shadow with that power use the rules for attacking with Quantum Conversion and add 6 to the damage pool. A nova surrounded by bioluminescence is considered to have Immolate against the shadows surrounding them and gains 6 dice to his or her damage pool as well.

Tenebrous Grasp ●●

(Body Modification (Tendril x2), Level 1)

Effect: By calling upon his own inner darkness, Shadow Revenant may lash out with pseudopods of pure shadow. He is fond of constantly shaping them into things like weaponry, or other peoples faces or objects to help convey his point.

Form and Substance ●●●

(Claws, Level 1)

Effect: Some say shadow is without substance or form and can therefore not hurt you. They would be right, unless The Shadow was lurking on the darkness. At his mental command darkness becomes his weapon. Searing cold and solid darkness shred anything that earns his ire (which is pretty much everything). He is fond of using this effect on his shadowy tendrils forming them into all manner of vile weaponry.

Weaknesses

Severe Vulnerability (sunlight): Although not as put off by bright lights as the Shadow clones, direct sunlight will irradiate Shadow Revenant forcing him back into the dark recesses of Revenant’s mind until his next sojourn into the realm of light. There is no soak or resistance roll, he’s gone pfffft, outta there!

The sunlight must cover at 40% of his body (his entire chest, legs, etc), otherwise he will simply be burned and immediately seek to escape the scene. This makes him particularly potent on stormy or overcast days.

Life Locked: Revenant and Shadow Revenant are the same person; killing on will destroy the other. If defeated (but not killed) he is banished back to Revenant’s mind.

Banned Power Use: Shadow Clones, although technically under the Aberrant rules are still clones of Shadow Revenant and should have access to his powers (except clone) they may NOT use Shroud. In fact Shadow Clones to not possess the Shroud power at all. This prevents Shadow Clones from creating their own darkness to escape damage from their weakness. They may linger in a shrouded area created by Shadow Revenant however and it is only in a shrouded area that they may use their regeneration enhancement.
