Name: Ptesan-Wi

AKA: Ptehehincalasanwin, White Buffalo Calf Woman, Whope, Falling Star, Thoughtwave

Gender: Female

Height: 5'2"

Weight: 102 lbs.

Age: Seemingly in her 20s, but no birthdate on record

Character Sheet and Logs (pdf)

Appearance: Ptesan-Wi is a lightly-built Lakota woman, with long and straight black hair (usually done in twin braids) and brown eyes. She tends toward native-design buckskin tunics and leggings, often with moccasins. She occasionally has the habit of looking past people when talking to them...or even just observing them.

Known powers: Ptesan-Wi is known to have a variety of mental powers. Direct mental communication appears to be second nature for her, as does telekinesis - even to the point of lifting herself on a leather-and-bentwood disk (that, for reasons of her own, she refers to as a 'snowshoe'). It is known that she possesses a direct mental attack of some sort, and she has evidenced cognative abilities far above the human norm. Ptesan-Wi has exhibited extensive abilties to communicate with the local fauna, and refers to several specific animals as her friends. The girl has proven exceedingly resistant to attacks of the mind, and extremely perceptive of the intentions of others. She has exhibited the ability to subtly alter her appearance, most often in taking on the softly-glowing eyes and slight radiant aura of the mythical White Buffalo Calf Woman. Since late December 2016, she has taken to wearing this altered appearance constantly, and has exhibited telepathic powers of truly global scale; reports of hearing "the voice of Ptesan-Wi" have come from native populations around the world.

History: Ptesan-Wi became noticed under a previous name, Thoughtwave, in the autumn of 2015, when she appeared as the declared mate of the Lakota nova Wakinyan. Her origins are something of a mystery. Rumors circulate that she once possessed much paler skin, but many of these rumors have since been attributed to the legends of the White Buffalo Calf Woman; it is possible that they are based in early attempts to take on the appearance of such.

In relatively short order, Thoughtwave became near and dear to the Lakota tribes - first as Wakinyan's wife, and then in her own right for the assistance that she would lend to the tribe with her mental gifts.

Eventually, Thoughtwave changed her name to Ptesan-Wi - Ptehehincalasanwin, the White Buffalo Calf Woman - in reference to an ancient Lakota legend of a woman who first brought the traditions to the tribe. At the 2016 Pow Wow, she formally assumed the role of Ptesan-Wi, presenting what she purported to be the mythical White Buffalo Pipe to the Lakota tribal elders and declaring that she had returned as once promised to walk the world with the People once more, as a herald of a new age.

In 2017, Wakinyan was killed by agent unknown in a devastating attack from space that laid waste to Wounded Knee, SD. The result of this death was an uprising by the Lakota Nation. Ptesan-Wi worked to mitigate the worst of the uprising, forging a cease-fire that was eventually broadened into a full peace treaty by former President Carter. As a result of the new treaty, native law enforcement received a jurisdictional shot in the arm and the Pine Ridge Reservation was enlarged to encompass all of the Black Hills – including Ptesan-Wi’s home on Inyan Kara. By 2019, Ptesan-Wi had largely withdrawn from external matters, focusing on the well-being of the Lakota people.

Ptesan-Wi is a declared Terat, known to have been at one time under the tutelage of the luminary known as Procyon. Ptesan-Wi has also the subject of concern by both the U.S. government and Project Utopia; these agencies have been concerned for some time that she is exhibiting "India Syndrome". At this time, however, the legal options for these agencies is limited, as Ptesan-Wi has not violated the law (as far as they know).

The Big Secret (OOC knowledge for most): What only a tiny of handful of trusted friends know is that Ptesan-Wi is not a nova. Until September of 2016 she believed - based on what she has been told by Alchemist when she first manifested her powers and was known as Mystic - that she was an "anti-nova", making use of "anti-quantum" for her powers. In the wake of receiving a massive "brain dump" of Aeon archival information from Samhra, Ptesan-Wi now believes that she is a "mesmerist". In truth, Ptesan-Wi is a psiad. Her powers often cause a slight "static" to be felt by novas, and viceversa.

To explain the lack of a quantum signature, Ptesan-Wi has put forth the Terat-friendly theory that her particular "unique evolution" has resulted in complete concealment of her quantum signature, at the cost of being able to detect that of others; so far, the fiction has held, though her mentor Procyon knew the truth, as did her mate Wakinyan and friends Neil Preston and Sean McCline.

Ptesan-Wi has gone to great lengths to divorce herself from her old Mystic moniker - even to the point, way back in early 2016, of letting Neil Preston use his Bio-Manipulation powers to "re-write" her body to be Lakota right down to the DNA - and has enjoyed great success in doing so.
