Background:

John Laveragne, AKA Longball was born in the San Francisco Bay area. At an early age, he showed an affinity for athletics, especially with regards to hand-eye coordination. His father enrolled him in the local little league baseball team, where he showed a remarkable ability for the sport. He won many league batting titles as he grew up with the sport. He was the only freshman, in his high school, to win a starting position on the varsity team. In the off-seasons, he surfed, where he could get the adrenaline rush that he got when hitting a homer or stealing a base.

He didn't just surf the local spots, like Steamers in Santa Cruz. He surfed at Mavericks, where the waves reached gigantic proportions. For many years, John was a regular at the spot, where waves reached heights in excess of 10 meters(+30ft). His father wanted John to stay away from Mavericks, because he feared for his son's future as a pro-ballplayer ans well as his life. But, because he wanted his son to be happy, he allowed it. This of course provided no end to the aggravation of his ulcers, which always grew in the off season. John graduated from high school as a high school All American, and was given an athletic scholarship to Stanford University.

In College, John was a mediocre student, who would rather be surfing, snowboarding, or any other extreme sport he could find to satiate his need for an adrenaline rush. He shunned the fraternities and the social clubs for the rush that danger provided. Remarkably, it was not his thrill-seeking that caused his eruption into a Nova, but a freak accident while at batting practice.

Eruption:

He would hit the batting cages every afternoon during baseball season. While there, John would set the machine to throw pitches that exceeded 155kph (90+mph), so he could prepare himself for the professional leagues, where many pitches reached that velocity. One afternoon, while he was in the middle of swinging at a series of lighting fast balls, an earthquake occurred. When the shaking began, his balance was thrown off and he fell into the path of the pitching machine. The first ball hit him in the chest, knocking him backwards and causing his helmet to fall off. While he was stunned from the force of the first impact, the next pitch headed towards his head. Instead of the ball beaning him in the head and permanently turning his brain to jelly, he reflexively hit the ball with such force, that it went through the cage on the other end and disabled the pitching machine.

He spent a month at the San Francisco Rashoud facility, where he honed his newfound abilities, and learned to control his abilities. While his eruption made him an even more skillful ballplayer, he is no longer allowed to play because of his extraordinary powers. Because of his love for the game, and his ability to hit the 'longball', he chose the name Longball. Since then, he has been looking for work, while traveling to the world's most dangerous surf breaks to fill his need for a thrill.

Appearance:

Longball is a 22 year old male with brown eyes. He stands six feet tall, and his athletic built body weighs 200 pounds. His body has lost all of its hair, due to the frictional forces at play between his body and the world around him. The friction with the surrounding air causes him to emit small but harmless bursts of staic electricity, like those given off when two pieces of statically connected clothing are separated. This gives him a slight yellowish-blue glow.

Everywhere Longball goes, he carries a specially made Carbon-fiber baseball bat. It is as much a symbol of him as his abilities. He also carries a bag on his hip which always has at least 10 baseballs in it. He uses the baseballs for signatures for his fans, as well as a long range weapon. Longball has been known to sign a baseball and leave it as a souvenire for his vanquished opponents to remember him. He runs a baseball clinic for kids and adults who wish to become better ballplayers.
