Jenny 'Starseed' Reid - 2nd Generation True Clade Nova

Concept: Space Explorer, Sci-fi Heroine

Age: 17, Born (05/06/2010)

Height: 5'1"

Weight: 95 lbs

Eyes: Black Glassy Orbs

Complexion: Asian, with a metallic golden sheen

Build: Slender (with too slender limbs)

Languages: English

Nature: Explorer

Appearance: Starseed likes to dress in formal clothes, sometimes uniforms - and she wears a wig, fitted clothes, etc. to huamnize her look - which includes a slight blue glow like an aura of energy.

Allegiance: TBD ... NOT Directive, NOT Utopia

POWER THEME: Cerebral Creator … Starseed has the ability to create patterns of matter, energy, and even quantum ex-nihlo - restricted only by the limits of her own imagination. As a creator, she has even learned to create the simplest and most common matter: plasma, with a degree of permanence and reality. Most of her creations, even when she is just copying the most familiar pattern (herself) are, however, temporary. Because she gained so much experience as a creator during her formative years, her own patterns are well developed in subtle ways (smoothly, tightly 'woven'). To make such ability and fidelity as a creator possible, her brain, nervous system, and mind are incredibly well developed – she is incredibly intelligent and can dynamically refine many of her active neural functions. She is a cerebral creator, a font of both the metaphysical power of creation and of intellectual creativity too.

BACKGROUND:

Her mother Nancy Reid was a good person, though always a bit radical – certainly hard headed -

and remains a brilliant researcher. Her father Jian-Ping was a wise man, and a powerful nova healer skilled in martial ways who had moved out of China to escape the PRC Nova Policies. As Novas went, they lived the quiet life – or so Jenny thought. She had a wonderful childhood, and though they had to be careful not to make scenes whenever not at one of the 'country houses' as they were 'upstanding' Novas in the eyes of society. Jenny, nicknamed 'Starseed' by her father, was fascinated with space, science, and science fiction. Her parents often thanked the their lucky stars that she had not yet manifested any sort of teleport or warp power that gave her access to space – because when she played, she played 'spaceship' or 'scientist' by creating amazingly detailed and functional sci-fi equipment, robots … even submarines and aerospace craft … out of nothing. With easy access to space, they half-joked she might literally become lost in space.

Jenny knew the drill though – because she could have made ships with plasma engines powerful enough to get off world ... but she knew that living the quiet life was important, she knew that showing off would get them all watched. She also knew that her families level of connections had allowed the favors that kept her safe. She knew to be very careful with her city friends, use the opnet only when absolutely necessary, and so on with rules and more rules. So she spent her time with her mother, creating sophisticated lab equipment, helpful servitors, and exotic matter with strange properties that facilitated the work – or just watching sci-fi. She did spend some time training with her father, but it was a bit boring compared to science … and she really couldn't help him with his style of healing because it just wasn't what her powers did.

However, her mother needed to work with a wide range of people – visit various labs, and it so turned out that a friend of hers was red listed for working on dangerous technology so her mother was put on a watch list by association. At about the same time, her father owed some old debts and they were called in for what seemed like an innocent healing session. As it turned out, his patient was a crime lord involved in ultra-black cyberware. Added to that, she knew that family connections were also keeping mother hunters at bay – even as her maturing physiology began to look distinctly alien despite the wigs, cosmetic contacts and makeup. In the eyes of the authorities, the pieces finally fit together … so the Proteus strike team took action. Raiding the 'secret lair' of the 'radical terrorist bomb maker' and her 'syndicate doctor' husband was a no-holds barred strike. They were trapped, or so the Directive thought – but they didn't know about Starseed just yet. When the first shots rang out, the frightened young woman summoned up the fiercest guardians she could and then walled off the lab where she had been working with mother. Neither of them knew where her father was, but the battle could be heard raging outside of the barrier.

Her mother knew what to do – while gathering up the important parts of her work, and destroying the rest she told Jenny to get ready to test her newest power: prepare for a hyperspace window warp. Jenny had been learning that from some of her Mother's friends, courtesy of one Count Raoul Orziz. Once taking refuge with him, and being smuggled to the Congo they received word of father: he had be killed in the battle for their home. Mother did not take it well, and became reclusive – associating with Terrat friends in secret for weeks. Jenny felt somehow distant from her mother at that time, or perhaps she noticed what had been happening for some time. Then it came out, over lunch one day mother announced she had avenged father. When mother said Jenny didn't understand – mother simply announced that an organization called the Directive had murdered father, and taken away a part of their family. So, in secret of course, she had her revenge – with the help of their new family, the Teragen, she had covertly given everyone involved horrible, incurable, painful and disfiguring cancers. That included everyone in their immediate families. Jenny was appalled – simply revolted, and didn't say much of anything. Since then, Jenny has been spending a lot of time alone – in space, keeping busy with creation and recreation of her star ships. Her Mother's secret – and by association her secret – has weighed heavily on her ever since.

Starseed does have a pet theory about why her powers of creation and neural development arose the way they did – and plenty of science to back it up of course. As an infant, and perhaps in the womb, she was a fan of the many science fiction shows, space opera movies, anime (lots of anime) and science series her mother watched habitually. She's always dreamt of being one of those heroic leaders with control of mighty star ships and loyal crews. Certainly, by her mid teens she had begun to reach for this goal. With her animate patterns she can create facsimiles of fantastic living things – everything from organic space craft infrastructure to the crews that man critical stations. Where her 'crew' isn't mentally flexible enough to do the job, she creates a duplicate of herself. Her ability to create matter and her knowledge of science coupled with matter creation can create the tools and even heavy equipment to manufacture technology that function in ways that her generated (temporary) patterns are not suited for. Her experiments with creating matter that has impossible properties, or is highly radioactive even provide her with temporary but powerful sources of power. With a little hard-won training it all added up to her being able to live her dream, to create the ship and crew to begin living her dream.

RESIDENCE(S):

- Mother's House: Living with her mother in the Congo has recently become somewhat stressful, but she doesn't have another real place to go yet.

- Philippines: She has experimented with 'camping' on some of the remote Philippine Islands ... thousands of them are uninhabited and the land provides more than enough food (fruits, coconuts, wild edibles, fish, easy trapping) via passive traps and the work of her servitors. She creates glassified earth construction by temporarily creating reactants that produce an exothermic reaction for the required heat. Her servitors then shape and crafted the structure - which is a squat two story high, glassy-smooth walled one-piece round tower with no door at the bottom. Two basement stories exist, with two rooms per level with the upper two stories being on great room with an interior catwalk ring.

APG: (In Progress)

Her Animate Pattern Generation (APG) power is incapable, at the present juncture, of creating sentient beings. She can however create a wide range of useful servitors ... her animate patterns are life like but somewhat engineered and / or alien looking. She tends to create them in three broad classes (servitors, vehicles, and ship systems). Servitors and vehicles tend not to be too large, while ship systems ... or ship symbionts if you will ... can be very large by necessity.

- Doll Bio-Droid

- Construction Bio-Droid

- Fighter Bio-Droid

VEHICLES: (In Progress)

STAR SHIPS: (In Progress)

The ships that Starseed has been creating consist of several design 'layers' - a robust set of hulls smelted from nickel-iron asteroid steel (classical O'Neil era method), then a n array of simple 'half-reactors'. The various reactors designed to make use of chemical reactants available in space that are catalyzed or processed with (temporary) created matter or technology for a permanent effect ... the (chemically, retroactively, or exotically) processed reaction products are the result and then stored and utilized. The third, possibly most important layer, are the created bio-tech systems (quantum constructs) that operate symbiotically with the more permanent technological design layers... these quantum creatures use their powers to operate the ship ... creating area effects, hyperspace windows, maintaining the environment. The fourth design layer are secondary systems - these are technological, and never relied upon (i.e. in the BSG style, computers are used but never networked, in the Trek style thrusters are always a last resort capability).

The net product is a set of well engineered hulls, with half-reactors that are passive and robust - they rely on clever engineering with pneumatic, hydraulic, thermodynamic, etc. principles with few (if any) moving or delicate parts. These two layers are thus tough, very low maintenance, and easy to fabricate in space with little equipment on hand (i.e. smelting fine quality nickel steel in space with common asteroids is remarkably easy because if you heat and rotate said asteroid until its molten, physics does all the work for you ... let it cool and you have massive quantities of fine alloy steel along with some useful refractory and ceramic materials in the slag layers that form on the outside).

Novas are resilient enough to operate in zero-g for prolonged periods so she hasn't wasted much though on gravity, but she does want to accomodate baselines and other life forms that need gravity - so she had decided on a tethered centripetal system that can be deployed, spun for 1 G, and even reeled in quickly in case of emergency (with crash air bags to allow rapid take up). The grav-crew sections are also eject-able, serving as medium duration life boats (with the rest of the ship having small T/E pods that can serve either as basic personal craft or as escape pods in microgravity (again, nothing fancy here in engineering terms).

Two reinforced inner hulls are included, one is the command section and the other is the adjacent lab section (which also includes the sick bay) - all the sections are arranged in the following order fore to aft:

- Outer Hull (Technological)

- Command Section: Q-Construct A, Forward Inner Hull (Technological)

- Lab Section: Q-Construct B

- Centripetal Tethered Crew Sections: Crew Section Systems (Technological)

- Vehicle Bay Section: 4 Vehicles (Fighters, Shuttles, Mechs), Launch Tubes, Retrieval / Service Deck, Bay Systems (Technological)

- Transport Section, Transit/Escape Pods (Technological)

- Engine Section: Q-Construct C, Thrusters (Technological), Cold Thrusters (Technological)

- Tactical Array (All sections): Q-Construct D

- Sensor Array (All sections): Q-Construct E, Sensors (Technological)

Note that none of the quantum constructs or half-reactors need to be active for the ship to station keep, use limited thrust, and maintain life support (all provided that the assorted consumables are stocked).
