Aberrant: Children of Quantum Fire - Character - The Morrigan

z-The Morrigan

Recommended Posts

Legal Name: Morrigan (birth name unknown)

Aliases: Screaming Fury; Morri; Blood Queen of the Congo

Residence: Kinshasa

Marital Status: Single

Date of Birth: Unknown

Date of Eruption: Unknown

Sex: Female

Height: 5’5”

Weight: 120 lbs

Physical Build: Lean and graceful, the Morrigan moves like a great cat. Her muscles aren’t extreme, but the woman is clearly strong.

Catalyst of Eruption: Rape and slavery.

Appearance: A young black woman of clearly mixed heritage, the Morrigan is a lovely example of young womanhood. She still appears to be a teenager, although she looks older than she did when she first surfaced in the public. Morri prefers to dress in rough-looking clothing such as camo pants and tank tops. When she goes to official functions, she wears beautiful traditional Congolese clothing. Her crisp English accent provides a rather exotic contrast to her physical appearance.

Personality Profile / Quirks: Where King Einherjar is cold and icily passionate, the Morrigan is fiery. Like her guardian, she holds herself away from other people but it’s not from a great loss. It’s from her first memories of life, filled with the abuse she suffered from Vyse Industries. Today, the only person who has pierced the walls around her heart is Einherjar; he has her complete trust and love. Unlike Einherjar, she is not socially or sexually active and has never been to anyone’s knowledge.

Einherjar would allow her to have official duties in the Congo, if she so wished. However, the wild young woman has no interest in following her guardian into politics.

Distinctive Features: Morri’s eyes glow a distinctive blood-red color. Lately, she has taken to wearing a circlet decorated with crystal shards and wound with leather strips.

Known Powers: Morrigan is fast and lethal. Those two are a dangerous combination and the girl uses them well after twenty years of experience. She can’t run or teleport, but she can outrun most people on the planet. She creates weapons that she makes from her own blood. She is tough and hard to kill, taking enormous amounts of damage when it makes it through her naturally tough skin. Aside from that, she is able to talk to her lion, Tahir.

General History: Morri’s life before Vyse Industries is unknown to the general public. She was found by Einherjar in captivity and, as the story goes, was freed and tamed by him. Despite a rough start, she became his boon companion, his red-eyed shadow. When the Storm King went to war, the Screaming Fury was beside him. In many ways, the young woman wasn’t truly aware of what she fought for in the short coup. She knew that Eyen was fighting, and so she fought.

After Anasi was deposed, Morri remained with her Eyen. She was at his side as he began to rebuild the Congo – and her. She and the abused country healed together, and she became almost as widely known and popular as the King himself. Items with her appearance began to pop up all over the Congo; Einherjar moved to take control of the market quickly but Black Market items still pop up from time to time. The most popular was a black t-shirt with two glowing red eyes and the words: Congo. Bloody but Unbroken.

It is this image of Morri as the abused nova who seemed to spring forth into the Congolese conflict fully grown that has spawned a cult of personality. As Einherjar became the head of a powerful army, Morri became the center of a cult. Named the Cult of the Blood Queen, its core is ten women, high priestesses, who guide the others. They view the Morrigan as the living embodiment of the Congo. Her unknown past combined with Einherjar being her ward parallels Congo’s own rescue by the ex-Elite. The girl was abused and saved by the Storm King, just as the Congo was. Her wildness reflects Congo’s own wild areas, still as dangerous and pristine as when monkeys first walked upright.

After peace came to the Congo, Morri began to recover further. Her mind recovered from the brain damage suffered by Vyse’s drugs slowly, expanding beyond human norms. She learned to talk clearly, to reason and to read. But the emotional damage has never healed. To this day, she retains that wariness toward all people, men in particular. But even women make her uneasy. One woman, the porn star Caramel Bath attempted to break her shell and release her from her sexual inhibitions. The attempt nearly got her killed when Morri freaked out. Since that time, Morri has shown no interest in sex or romance and that seems unlikely to change as only one person has the kind of trust needed for that intimacy.

Einherjar let Morri have a minor hand in things, when she showed she was able to handle them. Morri wasn’t particularly interested in ruling a country, so Einherjar left her out of things. Instead, Morri explored the vast interior of the Congo, and sometimes even into other countries. But with her speed and nova power, she soon found that the world wasn’t that interesting. There were people everywhere; the wild places were boxed in and contained by civilization. There were wild, open places, but she could cross them in the blink of an eyes.

The world was too small. So she found another. [more information to come in game]

Morri found her way home, with a half-grown lion in tow. Einherjar seemed intrigued by her new ‘pet’ and absence and asked where she’d been. Her answer intrigued him more: “The world was too small.” Tahir, her pet, was no ordinary lion. The dark blue eyes are hard to miss; his eyes should be golden, not storm-cloud blue.

Morri has taken many more trips to her hidden sanctuary. Were it not for her Eyen, Morri would have likely forgotten to come home eventually. But her trips are getting longer and longer, even now. Her ties to the world of her birth are tenuous, at best, and the trips are fraying them, strand by strand.

beautiful-lion.jpgLegal Name: Tahir

Aliases: Omore (Prince), Heir of the Sun, Pride of the Reth

Residence: The Sunlands, Primal Lands; Kinshina, Congo

Marital Status: Single

Date of Birth: Unknown

Date of Eruption: Unknown

Sex: Male

Height: 4’0” at the shoulder

Weight: 320 lbs

Physical Build: Tahir is a prime example of a lion growing into his prime. Golden fur covers his thickly muscled frame.

Catalyst of Eruption: Tahir was trampled on a hunt.

Appearance: Lean and long, Tahir is strong and powerful. His blue eyes are a gift from his mother; her line carries those eyes and sometimes they breed true. He is a youth; his mane is just starting to grow out. His fur is lightly dappled with his cub-markings, but they are fading. He walks the line between cub and king, a boy working on becoming a man by paying off a debt not his own.

Personality Profile / Quirks: Tahir is proud and regal. He’d rather have his tail cut off than show weakness or humility, though he bears both for his honor. He is very fond of the Morrigan, though he hides it behind a veneer of hauteur around his people. She spared his father’s life when she didn’t have to and for that, he is loyal to her.

But Tahir can be different when he's in Morri's lands. He doesn't have to be the prince; he can just be Tahir, a cub on the brink of adulthood. He can relax and let Einherjar scratch his mane, or he can play like the cub he wasn't allowed to be as a child. In a way, though he doesn't like Morri's strange lands, he's free here.

Distinctive Features: Tahir has ‘storm eyes’, a dark blue that stands out against his golden face.

Known Powers: Tahir has all of the traditional powers that the Reth must assume before he can become the leader of the Tribe. He has the Lord’s Right, the ability to score the hard rocks that jut up from the soil of the Tribelands. That was the first power, but it was followed by Master of Shapes, the mystic ability to take the shapes of other animals. It is only since taking up with Morri that he has become King of the Sun, with the ability to call fire from the sun to strike his enemies.

General History: Tahir is the eldest surviving cub of the current Reth, Simba. The name Simba is an honorary one, given to the Reth when he assumes the throne. The old name is wiped away and he is now Reth Simba, the King of the Tribe of the Sun.

Tahir was third in line when he was born, but the Tribelands are harsh. The eldest brother fell hunting the Phunan (T-rexes). His next oldest brother fell to the Laughers, the hyenas who hunt on Tribelands indiscriminately. Tahir found himself next in line to the throne. He wasn’t the third son, but he was the first-born son of his litter.

Tahir grew up being prepared to assume power. All of the first-sons of the litter are trained as such, and they are the most powerful of each litter. He was trained to lead and command; to hunt successfully and lead battles. He was also trained to the powers that he’d need as king, even if he never achieved them.

Then the Blood Queen arrived, a human of unheard power. She was fierce and terrible, but the Reth knew she was trouble. He challenged her to combat – and lost. The Tribe reeled from the shock of the defeat of their King. But when the Blood Queen stood ready to deliver the final blow, she gave mercy instead. Her action didn’t save the Reth; it stole his pride. The only way to regain it was for the Reth to steal that pride back from the Blood Queen. But the Reth was needed in the Tribelands; this was unheard of, for a king to lose his pride.

Tahir knew what he had to do. The Blood Queen’s debt was owed; his father could not pay it. So Tahir offered to pay it for the Reth. The Blood Queen reluctantly agreed, and the course of Tahir’s life was forever changed. He became stronger and faster on his adventures with the Blood Queen. And in time, he has grown to admire not the fierce woman he met, but the friend he’s found named Morri.
