World of Darkness: Balance of Power - [Vampire] The Last Night

Mel was already moving as Prince Gregor gave his instructions, advancing at a quick steady pace. His body was calm, cold and firm, and if it were possible, everyone around his path could swear that his aura of menace had practically doubled.

As he entered the front of the building and prepared to step outside, his hand reached inside his jacket for the weapons he habitually kept there...

She cursed herself for her hesitation and then knelt low behind cover as the gun fire rang out into the city night. From her vantage point her keen vision took in as much information as possible as her hands swiftly loosened her tight coat and she reached inside for her weapon.

For ten long seconds her eyes drank deep the details of the scene unfolding before her and mentally repeated everything she could take in. No matter how insignificant she took it in, condition of the windshield, mud or dirt on the tires or vehicle... everything.

As the rubber burned and the van sped off she bolted from her cover squeezing off three shots from her silenced pistol. The Colt M1911A1 tore into the back double doors not once, or twice, but all three times and she made a note of each location the bullets struck. With inhuman speed she bolted down the straightaway, coming to a stop where the apparent target was struck down. Her gun slid into it's holster swiftly and took in the scene...

Three shots, more for drama than to damage. I've PMed a list of the things Ravenna would have noticed and remembered.

Mel cleared the door, drawing his pistol as a precaution, and catching a brief glimpse of a figure entering the nearby alleyway. Suspicious, Mel followed up, trying to approach the alleyway carefully and quietly.

While doing so, he noted the burned rubber of a vehicle nearby, but having left. This was strange, unless the purpose was merely to disrupt the Elysium.

As she reviewed the scene her ears perked up slightly. Whomever was behind her was clumsy. She spun around and withdrew her gun, pointing it at Ganker. It didn't take her long to recognize him however, one dead thing to another, not to mention he'd been all over Elysium earlier tonight.

Reflexively she sighed, the little red dot on Mel's forehead hovered in place as she spoke. "You are loud and clumsy." She said softly in her subdued African accent. "Who are you?"

The dot hovered on his forehead, her hand was as steady as one could imagine. Being dead had it's advantages, like a complete lack of muscle fatigue when applied with the right training.

Mel's body tensed as the gun pointed at him, but he did notice the woman as one of the newcomers into the city. Casually, he ignored the insult and tucked the gun back into his coat.

"Someone who shooting would be a rather unfortunate mistake for their health." His head cocked at Ravenna. "You saw what just happened?"

Sean heard the rattle of gunfire as Elysium crashed and looked towards the front of the building. However, he was reassured by the Princes quick action in sending his Hounds forth to investigate the matter.

Turning to the lady who had addressed him earlier, apparently Ms Macintosh, he offered her his arm with a simple "Would you allow me the honour Ms Macintosh." Gaining her agreement he escorted her towards the person identified as Lord Ezekiel.

Madelaine gave Sean a pleasant smile and took his arm, "Of course, Mr. Beckett." She nodded to Lord Ezekiel, a thin man of fine clothing and regal demeanor, and motioned Sean to sit at the table. "Lord Ezekiel, this is Sean Beckett, a fellow Unconquered that is new to the city. Gregor asked that you and I instruct him on the finer points of the city," her smile deepened, her tone teasing, "but I'm certain he was speaking more of you than I. Shall I leave you to it or is this to be another lesson for myself as well?"

*************

Puck's head had snapped up when the Elysium fell, searching with angry eyes through the gathering for whom had broken his laws and brought violence to the gathering. The Prince's announcement, as well as the handing off of responsibility to the hounds, prevented any rash action on the Daeva's part. Instead he quietly excused himself from Moira and stalked over to one of the attendant ghouls, speaking low and rapidly. The ghoul, a fair-haired girl that didn't appear much out of her teens, nodded and ran off from the room.

Puck made his way to the Prince. "My apologies, my Prince. I know you've given the task to the hounds, but I am having some of my own people watch the security cameras as well, just in case. Is there anything else you would like me to do?"

Sean's brow creased a little during Ms Macintosh's introduction to Lord Ezekiel, but he gave the man a slight bow nonetheless before saying, "I fear there may besome misunderstanding. I've been here in the city for some decades now and know it like the back of me hand. 'Tis the court I'm being needing the introduction of te my mind."

Madelaine gave a silvery laugh and bowed contritely to Sean, "My misunderstand, good sir. Please forgive youthful ignorance."

Her tone was still teasing and the note on age seemed to be a particular part of the dig, though if it was aimed at herself, Sean, the Lord Ezekiel or even the Prince himself was unknown to him. She seemed far more vibrant than most Kindred in his experience, almost deceptively human, and full up of good cheer and genuine good will. A disconcerting presence, indeed.

"Well then," she smiled and chuckled again, "I shall amend to say the finer points of my sire's most esteemed court."

When Ravenna looked down the alley way she saw the body in the middle of it laying face down. While she was having her exchange with Mel her increased hearing picked up movement from the body. As she turned she saw the person push them selves up in to a sitting position. There were at least eight gun wounds apparent in the mans back as he stood and turned to face them. Both kindred felt the powerful beast of Arch-Bishop York as he looked past them at the street. The usually emotionless Ventrue seethed with anger and the two wondered if he was about to frenzy.

Police sirens could be heard in the distance but they were approaching quickly.

----------------------------------------------------------------

"No Mr. Puck there is nothing. Let me know if the cameras reveal anything." Gregor did not looked pleased.

Lord Ezekiel nodded pleasantly to the man. "It is a pleasure to meet you Mr. Beckett. Most of the court officers were here but it seems other events are calling them away. Ms. Macintosh here is our wonderful Harold. She is also the Au Pair of the local Invictus so if you bring any new member in to the covenant be sure that they speak with her as well."

Ezekiel's gaze moved over to the table with the Carthians. "Over there is the one you really want to watch out for around here. Theodore Hatcher, the man has already convinced two unconquered to join that farce."

Madeline leaned in to the table. "Lord Ezekiel, this is not the place or the time." His eyes snapped to Madeline. Almost immediately his features softened and he smiled again.

"You are right. You must forgive me, Mr. Beckett. I have had poor experiences with the Carthian Movement."

She repayed that in her mind. "Someone who shooting would be a rather unfortunate mistake for their health."... Confusion set in a moment later as she looked at him, waiting for him to give her a reason. Is he retarded?

She wanted to scream at his vampiric theatrics. Cryptic one liners and mysterious bravado were completely wasted on her. "If you're not part of the solution you're part of the problem. I asked you to identify yourself, you refused and I've no time for guessing games. Good-bye."

Her arm tensed and her finger squeezed the trigger with the red dot still trained on Mel's head. The Beast churning and uncoiling within her stopped the bullet from being fired. Instinctual fear rose up within her and she recoiled slightly from the fearsome predator that stood up from the ground.

Sirens echoed across the city blocks. She mustered enough courage to speak. "Arch Bishop York, the authorities are on their way. I understand the insult dealt to you has been a great one, but there is a time and a place for vengeance, and we are not short on time. I recommend we withdraw before the police arrive."

Mel was shocked too by York's Beast, but he had more experience allowing him to clamp down, though the effort was difficult. So the mystery's first part was revealed. Of course, someone had targeted York, so he'd be hearing about it soon in a briefing.

"Wise words for someone about to shoot a Hound." He told Ravenna. "And quite a leap of ingenuity for that suggestion." Mel added mockingly.

He started to walk away, but gestured toward the building of Elysium. "Your prize is accompanying the Sheriff inside first. I'm going to watch from a safe distance and see if any of my 'friends' on the force are investigating. If they are, it'll make getting the case forgotten easier."

It was an unpleasent situation and the shooting added more to her overall discomfort. At least she found Puck who had immediately been brought to attention about this affront.

Lavinia waited patiently for an opportune moment before she quietly approached the Master of Elysium giving him a chance to prepare himself for her presence. He was already in trouble and it wasn't the Sanctified's intention to cause him any further trouble. She wanted something from him and a diplomatic course would proof more successful than playing the status card.

"My dear Puck... I'm eternally sorry for choosing this moment to ask for your help...", her voice got lower and she flashed him just a tiny hint of her fangs hoping he would catch up on her bodylanguage that she was in dire need of vitae. Her longing eyes wandered over some of his ghouls but she wouldn't dare indulge herself without his approval.

When the shots rang out Goro was still looking at Natalie wondering if she would reply. His hand went to his cane, and the sword hidden within, as soon as the Elysium came down.

This is what you get for coming to these parties Goro, came the voice of his old pocket watch.

"Indeed, this is what I get for coming out to these things." He moved away, the girl forgotten and made his way toward the cowboy. "Mr. Clem, if you don't mind I think I will stand by you for the time being, I'd as soon be in the company of a seasoned man of violence than not."

"You flatter me, sir." Clem responded to Goro. He glanced around the courtyard which was conspicuously absent several prominent Kindred, then back at the old-looking Ventrue with a wry smile. "Somehow, I don't reckon we're in for too much trouble. If someone deliberately set out to disrupt Elysium, there'd be little gain in pushing the issue further."

Unless that was a diversion to steer the Hounds and the Sheriff away from the Prince's side. he didn't say. Clem put his back to one of the columns and affected an easy air, thumbs hooked into his gunbelts as he scanned the area from under the shadow of his hat's brim. If I wanted to do serious damage, I'd stir up the nest and get the fire 'n thunder types to go rushin' off first. The Gangrel's eyes sharpened, watching the crowd for any behaviour out of place.

In a Kindred Elysium, however, that was often hard to pinpoint.

"Are you still here?" She asked Mel, ignoring most of what he said. "My prize?" Ugh, this fool is insufferable. Must it always be true what they say about Hounds? That they resemble their owners. Her first meeting with York hadn't gaone well they way he seemed to give her the cold shoulder due to her lack of Covenant affiliation, but nonetheless he wa sthe Sheriff and she had agreed to the terms set before her by the Prince. Among that list was the common sense that one doesn't leave the Sheriff to rot in the street while the law comes after he was gunned down in a drive by.

Vitae pulsed through her veins and gushed to her muscles strengthening tendons and tempering sinew. Invigorated by her clan's blood discipline she found the strength to more easily lift and balance the Sheriff who seemed a bit dazed still.

She placed her attention on the Sheriff. "You're powerful," she complimented him. "But you were hit hard. Come, lean on me and I shall see you to safety. Petty differences aside, Arch-Bishop, now is a time for action. Let us be on our way."

She looked back to Ganker. "Make yourself useful while you're down here, I'll need shell casings, collect them for me."

She and the Arch-Bishop made their way back to Elysium...

Puck followed the look and swallowed a sigh at Lavinia's predicament. Really, the girl needed a minder. Perhaps he should point that out to the Senaschal? Usually Invictus Au Pairs only took in newly embraced or very young Kindred, but seeing as how Father York and the Prince were so close, perhaps they'd make an exception.

Hmmm...I'm getting rather catty tonight. Well, at least India's coming home. Besides, as much as Lavinia is just about everything I deplore about the Sanctum to a tee, she's Deava and that means family. His mood mostly self repaired, he very politely excused himself from the Prince once the elder Nosferatu was finished with him and held an arm out to Lavinia with a courtly dignity that was several centuries out of date with his attire. "Bishop, I am here to serve. As are my staff. Please follow me."

He lead her to small alcove just off the restaurant that was mostly curtained off by large fern plants. Half a dozen ghouls dressed well enough for the gather but bare enough about the neck and wrists for easy access were lounging on an assortment of couches and divans. The space could have been a courtesan room from any of dozen cultures and the inviting smiles of the mortals would have been almost disconcerting for those Kindred accustomed to hunting an unsuspecting prey. Puck led Lavinia over to one of the couches, setting her down between a brunette man and a woman with a strong enough resemblance to the man that they must be blood family. With ghouls, as with Kindred, age could be a tricky guess.

Puck murmured softly to Lavinia once she'd sat, "Drink your fill, but not enough to harm, if you please. If there's anything else you desire, only ask; if they can provide it they will, else they'll come get me." His voice was a sensual caress and his entire demeanor the epitome of the Deava incubus, but for now it seemed casual, almost preoccupied, and Lavinia could tell that the effect was as much habit as intent.

York was standing on a battlefield looking down at the two men that had tried to kill him. Simple peasants that had raised what they called weapons to a full fledged knight. How pathetic of them. One of his comrades rode up beside him.

"Did you have to be so cruel Mathew? I know you could have made their deaths cleaner then that."

York sneered up at the man. "They should not have stepped out side of their station. They not only worked against the peace they had the audacity of attacking me. Now they have payed for both crimes."

The other knight simply looked disappointing. Few knights though would speak against Ser Mathew York. His pride was almost as legendary as his ability. The knight dismounted and nodded to York's side which was bleeding fairly well. "You are strong but wounded. Why don't you lean on me brother and lets get you back to the priest."

Quote:
"You're powerful," she complimented him. "But you were hit hard. Come, lean on me and I shall see you to safety. Petty differences aside, Arch-Bishop, now is a time for action. Let us be on our way."

York snapped back to the present. The fields dissolved back in to the alley way. Was he so far gone that some gun shot wounds could rob him of his senses? Not just yet. He gently stepped away from Ravenna and nodded to her. "I should be fine to walk. We will take a back way to avoid the police. Mr. Ganker, retrieve one or two casings as the woman needs and come with us. I will not risk any exposure from one of us being here when the authorities arrive."

As the two of them made their way back York did not bother to see if the hound was following them. He would deal with him later if Ganker was of a mind to not follow orders. As soon as they were out of the alley way and near mortals again she felt his beast vanish though he did not seem to activate the blush of life. He looked to his side at Ravenna. For a unaligned she had a great deal of sense about her which was a pleasant change from what he was use to.

"You are a wise woman Ms. Sombra. I dare say you have a wisdom I have noticed lacking in many younger kindred. That suggest either your sire taught you well, or chose you well."

For one like him the term younger kindred seemed rather broad. Still the compliment was clearly just that.

"Tell me, do you handle all situations as calmly as you handled that one?"

"I try." She replied softly, he eyes moved about as she walked making it obvious that she was currently just as much his bodyguard as she was his object of interest. "Though I admit, like all all of us, I am flawed and not without my moments of indiscretion."

They rounded a sharp corner and made their back to Elysium. The Arch-Bishop's shirt was in tatters but thankfully mortal traffic was light on New Year's Eve. "I thank you, by the way," her African accent was soft but her tone was polite enough. "I like to think that you are correct on both accounts. Every five decades Shafi, my sire, Embraces only one of three prospects. We spent years training to earn the right, I did."

Proudly she managed a grin as she nodded to the Sheriff. "Forgive me, but I haven't been in Kansas long enough to prepare a resume'." Humor it seemed, wasn't completely lost to her.

Mel objected to Ravenna giving him orders, but the Sheriff's intervention allowed him to do so. A quick scooping up of a shell or two. A brief glance over the details made him swear under his breath for a moment.

Then, he left the alleyway, following the two ahead but not trying to catch up. His mind pondered the obvious effort and focus put into this attack. A standard, non armor piercing, bullet for a semi automatic hand gun, yes. But it has no manufacturer's marks of any kind. No headstamps, nothing.

So as he went back, his hand pulled out his phone and he dialed the number of Patrick Goldsman, a Sgt. on the police force whom he traded favors with. Now was time to call on him.

Goldsman answered with a curt "Hello?" Mel smiled. "How's life treating you, Goldsman? Listen, you wouldn't happen to have heard of who produces the equipment needed to make homemade bullets? I'd be very grateful if you did know and told me. And it's nothing illegal, mind you."

"I thank you my dear Puck.", her words were differently than expected. Lavinia seemed to be truly grateful that Puck still knew that blood tied them closer than they would normally admit. Her eyes carefully selected one of Puck's lovely ghouls and with long held back hunger she drank... drank and prayed for forgiveness.

Once she had taken her share without endangering Puck's belongings she quietly retreated seeking him out again.

"I... I was wondering if you could pass a message to one of our new guests? I think I should retreat after all this hassle and the latest turn of events.", she hesitated briefly trying to catch Puck's lovely eyes.

"Unless you ask me to stay, of course. In that case I would be happy to oblige. Do you know what all this commotion is about? I was distracted when it happened. Where those really gunshots?"

He suppressed the urge to arch a brow at the Bishop's unusual friendliness. Maybe Father York just keeps her hungry all the time; that would certainly attest to the general insanity. He mentally chastised himself for his continued cattiness, especial as Moira and Aftiel weren't around to share it, and shook his head.

"I'm not sure, yet, other than that someone broke Elysium, obviously. I have my people looking into it and the Prince has sent one of the Hounds to find out what happened as well. I'm not sure where Father York is, but he did storm out early because of some snit over so many unaligned showing up in the city." His brow furrowed, "I didn't hear any gunshots, but if you did you might want to go tell the Prince. Did you hear what direction they came from?"

In the near by police station it was turning out to be a busy new year. Sergeant Goldsman was trying to bring order to the number of people being brought in. Mostly just drunks that did stupid things and would be kept over night. Then the reports came in of shots fired. Police and ambulance had been dispatched and he was waiting on some word. Suddenly his phone rang. "Hello?"

"How's life treating you, Goldsman? Listen, you wouldn't happen to have heard of who produces the equipment needed to make homemade bullets? I'd be very grateful if you did know and told me. And it's nothing illegal, mind you."

He was getting use to these odd questions.

"Funny you should ask. They just arrested three guys down in Mission for making home made guns and ammo. Guys said they had sold three boxes of 9 mil ammo to someone. Didn't know his name. Other then that haven't heard anything."

------------------------------------------------------------

York walked up the front stairs of the building. Motioning for Natalie and the one with her to follow them. As York entered the building he ripped off his robe and tossed it to a near by helper.

"Dispose of that."

Clad in black dress pants and a simple white shirt with holes in the back he walked in to the main room. Everyone stopped and looked to the sheriff.

"Four people just decided to shoot me. We have no proof they are hunters but the attack did not seem random. They were in a unmarked white van. I want them found. I will also offer a personal major boon to anyone who can bring me one of them alive. Two if you bring all four. Two minor boons will be granted if someone brings me their location and I see to them."

As he spoke he walked to stand behind Gregor.

"Any questions?"

"Whatever it may be, we can't allow this to damage your reputation my adorable Puck. If someone is trying to discredit your ability as Master of Elysium we have to find the culprits and put them to justice. I won't allow anyone to attack the Daeva and get away with it.", she gave Puck another look evaluating his stance on the situation.

"You have my full support in this matter, Puck - just let me know. I understand this is your duty but I won't stand by and just watch.", Lavinia's voice was barely above a whisper but she sounded dead serious about this. It was hard to tell if it was another of her schemes or honest concern for Puck's wellbeing and political career.

Mel inwardly rejoiced. This looked like a promising lead, and frankly, there wouldn't be much else normally when it came to homemade bullets. "Any names of these fellows? I may look into it, and if I'm lucky, who knows? You might get the purchaser's name?"

That looked like a good lure, the promise of aid for the exchange of this information. And unless the assailants were well-protected from arrest and prosecution, it wouldn't be much trouble to give the police their names and have them taken in for arrest on the ammo charges.

And even if they weren't related? Well, he had to keep up a good relationship with the police and Goldsman right?

As he was walking, he entered the front section of the building and stopped there to finish his conversation.

Puck turned the Bishop from where they'd been talking so she could get a look at Father York. "Well, I'm thinking this wasn't really aimed at me." It could have been a quip at the Sheriff's expense, save for the dark tone of his voice.

"At this point, my dear Bishop, I think the matter has been rather irrevocably taken out of my hands as Master of Elysium," he murmured to her.

"Still...", the matter was bothering Lavinia on some kind of personal level.

"I'm going to keep an eye on it my dear Puck. I won't allow that this unravels into some kind of afront against our blood or you as Master of Elysium. If it was only directed at the Arch Bishop, then I suppose the culprits have not the slightest idea whom they are offending.", there was a deadly certainty in her voice that implied anything opposing Arch Bishop York would meet final death. Maybe even the Prince.

Sean smiled in return to Lord Ezekiel and Ms Macintosh, "No need to apologise Lord Ezekiel. Over the decades and centuries I've had more than one 'disagreement' with their like."

He looks around the room at how the others have reacted to the break in Elysium before continuing. "So my Lord, and Lady, who else of the Court's officers are present that I should know?"

Puck could only hold his serious face so long, and it would be worth any sharp pointy objects just to see the look on the Bishop's face. He snaked an arm around her and pulled her into a side-hug, chuckling and rubbing her should as if trying to cheer up an old friend. "I'm sure it'll be fine, Lavinia. Hunters are nothing new to our experience and if anything have seemed to have gotten dumber over the centuries. They were probably drunk and cruising and York was just there. He's not exactly inconspicuous. You might want to go and see if he needs anything though. A new shirt definitely, at least."

"Well now." Clem said quietly enough that only Goro, standing beside him, could hear what the wanderer was saying. "It seems this dance got interestin'." He turned his face towards the Ventrue, winking his pale blue eye.

"Reckon I'll mosey along and take a look at where this attack took place before it gets crowded. If y'all want to stay close to me, that's where I'm headed." Without further words he pushed away from the pillar and walked outside, his pace that same steady unhurried walk he always seemed to employ.

As he left the hubbub of the Court, Clem stretched his fingers briefly before returning them to their repose on his gunbelts. Passing a pair of young female Kindred, one wearing jeans of the sort he hadn't seen since the 80's and the other a slim dark-haired beauty who looked a little bewildered, the blush of the recently-Embraced still evident on her skin. Tipping his hat to them as he passed, Clem sauntered out and turned towards the alley where the attack had taken place, his already keen senses sharpening further to impossible levels as he called upon them.

Hearing footsteps behind him Clem half-turned to see the Ventrue in the General's uniform behind him about fifteen feet back. Seeing that he had been spotted, the General stopped as well. The two kindred regarded each other with laid-back wariness.

"Somethin' I can do for you, sir?" Clem asked respectfully, though with a hint of steel underlying his mild tone. The other nodded, smiling.

"We're both a-headin' in the same direction. Makes sense that two are safer than one. How about it, cowboy?" Clem considered that for a moment, then shrugged.

"Sure." he stepped aside and gestured. "After you, stranger." A faint smile played around his mouth, and his odd-coloured eyes glinted under the brim of his hat.

Jimmy nodded and took the lead. As they got outside he first walked over to a parked car. Opening up the trunk he switched out his shirt for a cheap button up shirt. After that he pulled out a coat that covered up his gun belt. Tossing his hat in to the trunk he suddenly stopped looking like a actor in a civil war movie and looked like a regular guy.

"So where do you want to go first?" Even his accent had changed. "I might have a friend in the group at the scene if you want to check there."

Ganker let it go. At least he was getting a pass to the valuable info the Prince needed. Hanging up the cell phone, he gave a curt nod to Natalie, then proceeded into the tense main room. He walked up up to the Sheriff and the Prince. Everyone previously in the way got out. They knew something was up, and gave him plenty of room.

"My Prince, Sheriff." he spoke quietly to his two bosses, "I'm afraid I will have to take my leave. My contacts in the police have provided a good lead, but it looks as if I have to personally follow up this one to Mission."

"Sounds good to me." Clem said with a smile as he made a mental note of the car. "By all means, lead on." As he fell into step alongside Jimmy, he pulled his duster a little closer, covering the butts of his guns, and dropped his hat back off his head so that it hung by it's thong there.

"The name's Clem Broson, by the by." he said quietly to the other kindred.

As Puck had excused himself to deal with the current situation, Moira had slipped off to the side to watch the commotion and see what was going on. After York's entrance, she discreetly slipped her cell phone out of her purse and tapped a message to Aftiel. No matter how irritated she might be at him for the situation earlier in the evening, he needed to be kept updated. And he was the leader of her cult, it was up to him to tell her what he wanted her to do.. whether to get out of there for now or stay and gather more info.

A.B.Y. attacked, non-fatal, Effect of E. down for now. Should I leave or stay?

Then she clicked the phone shut, and waited for a response as she watched everyone else's reactions.

Ezekiel nodded to York. "There is our supreme sheriff. Arch Bishop Mathew York. A old and powerful Kindred. One not to be trifled with, but it seems some hunters did not get that memo. I pity them if they are delivered to him. The woman standing with Mr. Puck, the master of Elysium, is Bishop Lavinia Foscari. She is the harpy of the city. There are four hounds, three members of the Lancea. The fourth a member of the Invictus. None of them are to be hassled except for good reason. I believe those are all the official officers. Though I hold no title of function with in the city the Alder Prince does rely on my for information. I also work closely with the Sheriff to maintain order in the city."

Madelaine spoke up. "Don't forget about the Circle representation."

Ezekiel nodded to her. "Thank you Ms. Macintosh I had indeed forgotten. The man is so rarely around it can be hard to remember him. As the Alder Prince is the speaker for the first estate, and the Arch Bishop is the speaker for the second there is a speaker for the circle as well. Guillermo is his name. Eventually you will meet him I am sure but it will probably be a bit. I doubt he will show tonight."

"Jimmy Dumas, though when just among Kindred most just call me General. Listen, what my brothers did earlier was not what I told them to do. I don't appreciate people who stab in the back. I do apologize for that and hope that is not the impression that sticks with you when you think of me. Later if you want to discuss it I am willing to offer a boon to make up for that kind of act."

Clem did not have time to respond as they neared the crowd. Jimmy pushed through until he got to the police line. He looked around until he saw someone and called out. "Jacobs! Hey, Jacobs over here!" One of the officers turned and looked over. When he saw the two of them he gave Jimmy a nod and walked over.

"What have you got here?"

"Attempted homicide, drive by shooting. Witnesses are saying four shooters involved but I am not sure."

Jimmy frowned and looked around the scene. "Why not? What is wrong with the story?"

"Not enough casings. Also there is no blood on the scene. You would expect some hits but we can't find blood anywhere. It's a weird one Jimmy."

Nodding Jimmy glanced at Clem. The officer looked over and then gave Jimmy a questioning look.

"Where are my manners. Officer Jacobs, this is Clem Broson. He is a friend of mine from out of town. A fellow Private Investigator who is visiting. You know if you wanted we could probably help you find these guys if you give me what you got on it."

Jacobs looked back at the scene before turnign back and shaking his head. "You know I would need permission for that Jimmy. If you give me some time I can see if that is possible."

Jimmy locked eyes with the man. "You will call me in twenty minutes. You will give me all information you have on this case over the phone."

Jacobs nodded slightly. "Ya, your right. We could use the help. I will talk to ya later Jimmy."

Jimmy turned and motioned for Clem to follow him. Once they were away from the crowd he smiled. "Isn't it nice when they just do as their told? So Clem what do you want to do while we wait?"

"Head back inside, I reckon." Clem replied as they headed away from the scene. "I get the feelin' that yer cop friend weren't the first man on the scene. That was a lot of shootin' goin' on, and too few casings?" The gunslinger shook his head. "Sounds like some others got there first, maybe some of those who were in Elysium at the time." He pondered in silence as he walked.

"Who came in with the Archbishop when he returned? They might know more or even have some of the missin' evidence." Clem smirked slightly. "O' course, that don't mean they'll share it with me... But they might with you."

Hunters are nothing new to our experience and if anything have seemed to have gotten dumber over the centuries. They were probably drunk and cruising and York was just there. He's not exactly inconspicuous. You might want to go and see if he needs anything though. A new shirt definitely, at least."

Pucks breach of personal space was commented with a slightly disapproving look but it was too late to protest as he had already draped an arm around her. "I'm not his wife, Puck... he'll do without me until he calls for my presence. And it's like you said - the Hunters probably didn't know who they attacked. But just in case... the tiniest possibility of my assumptions was right... don't hesitate to tell me or ask for my help. I've seen all kinds of hidden attacks and distractions that led to a full fledged war."

She carefully unhooked herself out of his half-embrace and gave him a friendly smile and then excused herself. "I'll be with the Prince and the Sheriff. I thank you once again for your kind help and generosity."

The beautiful Daeva Harpy nodded briefly at Puck and offered a tiny bow of respect before she left and rejoined the upper class of kindredsociety.

India had finished her dance with the handsome gray coat, so when the woman Puck had pointed out as the city's Harpy stepped away from his side, he wasn't too terribly surprised - though still delighted - when his childe slipped next to him to fill the spot a few moments later, her arm snaking through his as she flashed him a playful little smile and eyed him through half-closed lids.

"Ah' hope this whole ordeal hasn't colored people's perceptions, darlin'. You do throw such a stunning party, ah'd hate for people to think otherwise."

She leaned against him, and at that moment - almost as if they had sensed that their 'parents' were together again - Victoria and Jonas made their way back into the main room, and over to the two beautiful vampires. Jonas stepped behind them and placed a hand on India's shoulder gently, and Victoria moved to Puck's other side, laying her cheek against his shoulder-blade and then shifting forward happily as she felt his arm slip around her waist and pull her closer so she could rest her cheek on his shoulder and chest instead. Together, the two stunning kindred and the two ghouls made a striking image, like some sort of seductive Kindred family portrait.
