Non-public information:

It was an overdose of methamphetamine that brought her to her 'nervous breakdown'. She'd been taking recreational drugs for several years through school, always able to keep her social, business, and personal lives apart. She'd been found by her fiancé who didn't immediately notice anything out of place. She was going through the obvious withdraw phases but had evolved in several other ways. He attempted to talk her into going to rehab or at least see a real doctor but she wouldn't have any of that. Injecting herself with even more than before, she went on to complete her thesis, earning her the Ph.D. she wanted so badly. It wasn't until several weeks after the award ceremony that she reported to a Rashoud Facility. After discovering her methamphetamine addiction and diagnosing it as a purely mental sickness they resolved her problems by giving her psychiatric care. After taking a few months off she got a prestigious job at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN as a neurosurgeon. They were more than happy to sign a publicly announced Nova at the standard salary for that position, which was still more than generous.
