Men in Black

Little is known about the black dressed men who apparently subdued and captured the creature known as the Porcu-Bear. Thus far they have been encountered once and seem to be primarily concerned with capturing mutants alive. Dressed in black military fatigues (see photos) they have been shown to use stun weaponry to subdue and zip-tie restraints on captives.

Connor and Theresa Mulvaney

Connor is a fifty-four year old Zoologist working for the Central Park Zoo. He stands about 5'10" and is in great shape for a man two decades younger. Most of that comes from trying to keep pace with his adopted son Cole. He's an avid jogger and loves doing field work.

He prefers to work with large cats, having fallen in love with the various big cats as a boy. His favorite is actually the Mountain Lion of North America, known also as the puma or cougar depending on where you find it.

He earned his doctorate From the University of Southern California In Zoology over twenty years ago. It was at USC that he met Theresa McCain, a young woman studying to become a veternarian.

Theresa is a fifty-three year old red-haired irish woman. She's small of stature at only 5'4", but big of heart and courage. She takes pride in how many animals she has helped over the years. She has a very strong maternal side, which is truly tragic because an accident when she was younger made it impossible for her to have children. She did her internship at the Los Angeles Zoo, and also earned her doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from USC.

The two met and married and have been something of a team ever since, traveling to India, Africa, wherever their fields took them. For the past twenty years they both work in the Central Park zoo and the Bronx Zoo whenever needed.

When Cole was born they realized special and unique he was. Rather than see him raised in a lab under a microscope, they took him home and raised him since day one as their own child. Because of his familiarity with humans and through being in contact with them since an early age, he speaks fluently, his voice only becoming guttural when he's mad. He also mimics facial expressions well, well enough for someone who looks like a bipedal tiger.

Cole knows they aren't his real parents, but they raised him and that's close enough for him. He generally abides by their wishes, though he's become more independent since the Mulvaney's took in Ramani a year ago.

The Porcu-Bear; a.k.a. Subject 17

The first other mutant encountered by Wally and Ozzie the "Porcu-Bear" appears to be either a cross between a porcupine and a bear or more simply a pocupine given massive size. It appears to have some basic grasp of human language but likewise seems to be rather dim at best, concerned with food more than anything else. It was last seen being taking away in a black box truck with no license plates by the Men in Black.

The PB was encountered again in the Bronx and showed a marked increase in aggression. Upon its defeat Ozzie found that there was some sort of cybernetic device implanted in the creature's skull. The PB was apparently captured by the Cyborg, possibly working with the Men In Black, when the mutants were forced to flee the scene.

Mike Knox
mike.jpg

The son of a homophobic financial advisor and grandson of a famous football coach, Mike is expected to do great things. The problem is that he has no desire to do any of the things that his family expects of him. He's very quiet, and few people realize just how unhappy he is most of the time.

At school, he is very popular, being the school's quarterback. He's known for being a high-average student who does well enough. He doesn't stand out much, beyond what notice he earns as a star player on the team.

Relation to Penny:
Mike is considered very attractive, and he shook up the school's social world when he started dating Penny Mann (whom is one of the girls who you marry, but not until you're thirty and done having fun). He has ignored any other girl and all suggestions and hints that he'd be happier with one of the popular girls. His choice seems to be a good one: they've been going out for nine months and seem happy.

Randy Wilson

Where the other kids at the school are there because their parents bought their way in, Randy's there because he's the best tight end in New York. The school agreed to waive his tuition so that he could play for them, a deal his blue-collar family quickly accepted. Randy's keenly aware that this is his break; if he can keep playing well, he can get a college scholarship and maybe hit the major leagues. He doesn't ask if that's what he really wants.

His first friend at the school was Mike, who took the new kid under his wing. Since then, they've been fast friends, but not even Randy realizes how miserable Mike is. Randy doesn't do very well in school due to undiagnosed dyslexia, but the school is working with him to help him achieve better scores. After all, they need him to keep his grades up so that he can play.

Relation to Penny:
Like the rest of the school, he was appalled when Mike began dating Penny. But he stood by his friend, being polite to her when she was around. After time, he warmed up to her, and now he considers her to be a friend.

Robert Mann
robert.gif

Robert is a gifted painter - with "gifted" meaning that he can support himself and his family in modest style. He is a very calm, practical man, not inclined to thoughtless action. He is a self-professed "former hippy" who still leans toward his environmentalism and peaceful causes. His need to care for his family has taken much of his time and effort, but it is a sacrifice he'll gladly make for them.

This focus on his family made his divorce that much harder. He took the news that his wife was a closeted lesbian very well, and even supported her throughout the divorce. The only worry he has expressed about the divorce is the impact on the children. He spends much of his time with them making sure they're healthy and happy.

Relation to Penny:
Robert is Penny's father, a role that he relishes. He loves being a father and as a father, he tries to be fair and firm when he has to be. He is trying to prepare to be the father of an adult, but he is having trouble. He's trying to get his kids go, but it isn't easy for him. Being the reliable parent in the family means that he'll continue to be leaned on, and he's trying not to manipulate his daughter into continuing to need his guidance.

Leslie Reynolds-Meyers
leslie.jpg

Leslie Reynolds-Meyers is a lovely, generous woman with little common sense. She sorta recognizes her own shortcomings, which can lead to a lack of confidence and inability to find happiness. She is bright and fun to be around, but she can't handle money or really care for dependants. When her children were young, she managed only with support from Robert. She loves them without reservation, and if pure affection determined the winner of the best mother, she'd have the gold medal.

Leslie's life has been a series of seekings - she's always on the look out for the next hobby, the next job or the next relationship that will make things "perfect." In truth, she's not sure what she's looking for, only that she's sure it's out there.

Relation to Penny:
Leslie loves her daughter completely, even if she is too much of her father's daughter. She wishes that Penny would make more of an effort to be a young lady, though she's encouraged by her relationship with Mike, whom she adores in a fairly awkward way. Penny has come to accept her mom for who she is, mostly, though she's very aware that it was Leslie's desires that broke up their family.

Megan Reynolds
megan.jpg

Megan is everything that Leslie and Robert are not: driven by career and high-strung, she's also very domineering. Her relationship with Leslie is clearly a relationship of inequals; Megan owns the condo, earns the money and has the willpower. She is queen of the house, and everyone knows this, even the kids.

Megan presents a perfect veneer to the world, but childhood abuse leaves her uncertain how to be a step-mother and desperate to keep that veneer. She buries herself in work when the kids are around, though she'll never ask Leslie to keep them away. She dotes on Leslie as only a domineering mate can, and enjoys caring for her.

Relation to Penny:
Of Leslie's two children, she feels closest to Penny simply because they share a gender. She's also the closest to being an adult, which will make it easier for Megan to relate to her. And Megan has seen Penny's intelligence and drive, and sees her as a possible protoge, if she can convince the young woman to give up on medical school.

Raphael

A mutant turtle living in an abandoned subway station, Raphael claims to be nearly fifty years old which would imply that he is not a product of The Event. He had taken the PCs under his wing (flipper?) with the intent of helping them to become the heroes the city needs.

Detectives Albert Giodorni and Rupert Jenkins

Two of New York's finest. Currently investigating the death of Sydney Brodsky. In addition they are part of a task forcelooking into the death of Lewis Snully as part of a larger string of apparent gang violence.

Jenkins is the quiet and somewhat plain partner to the louder, fatter, and more vocal Giodorni. The pair have been working together for over fifteen years and have one of the best records when it comes to solving their cases resulting in conviction.
