Aberrant: The Middle Children of History - The Fiery Comte

Recommended Posts

Name: Morgan Comte

Nova Name: The Fiery Comte

Occupation: DeVries Elite

Race: Caucasian

Age: 25

Height: 6' 1''

Weight: 185lbs

Date of Birth: May 2, 2000

Appearance: Morgan is a handsome middlingly tall man, hair styled within an inch of its life, nose large and beakish, eyes burning flames and skin rippling with flame under the surface, hot to touch. He tends towards a preppy style of dress; occasionally he'll try to pull off 'businesslike' but it's usually too flashy to really work.

History: The son of Lois Brooks-Comte and Gerald Comte, Morgan grew up in Watts, South Los Angeles. A less-than-suburban neighborhood, Watts proved the ideal environment to turn an otherwise good-natured, if rather disconcertingly blase, young man into a rich, amoral magpie of an elite.

An only child, Morgan grew up under the watchful eye of his strict, crippled ex-military father. They frequently butted heads on a number of issues, particularly the welfare of the three of them, which Morgan had taken an interest in from a surprisingly early age. Growing up in a primarily African-American neighborhood didn't really help matters, and Morgan semi-frequently encountered reverse discrimination, which he dealt first with fear, then an almost rabidly aggressive arrogance and violence. Shortly after dropping out of high school at 16 he earned the grudging respect of a street gang primarily concerned with dealing mite and heroin and assuring themselves that they were, indeed, true badasses.

Morgan was completely unremarkable in that regard; his main talent lay in getting people to like him and buy what he was selling. And perhaps that would have gone on indefinitely, until he was nearly shot by a rival gangmember, and responded by erupting and roasting the young man alive. Clearly, thought Morgan, his eruption was a sign, his stay in the ghetto was over and it was time to pursue his destiny.

DeVries looked promising.

The (para)psychologists originally had a few misgivings about Morgan, as he'd not just grown tainted, that was how he'd erupted, and it was doubtful that his condition would get anything but worse. Morgan didn't really care; he had the power, didn't he? Beggers couldn't be choosers, and his lot was looking infinitely better. Also of concern was not just Morgan's callousness towards killing (actually an asset), but his supreme arrogance and overestimation of his own abilities to the point of abject stupidity. But with a collective shrug of shoulders (he'll learn or he simply won't last) Morgan was welcomed into the ranks of DVNTS at the age of 21.

The reason Morgan doesn't wear a mask is quite simple, though some ascribe the incorrectly simple reason to it, assuming that Morgan simply views the mask as Lance "Stone Badass" now does, as a cowardly tool used by elites scared to own up to their own work. The truth is...he lost his mask. On his very first mission in Ecuador. It was supposed to be a simple test of his talents; Morgan's partner would infiltrate the private establishment, incapacitate the nova guards, and leave Morgan to take care of the much more numerous baseline guards and raze the place to the ground.

There were rather more novas than had been anticipated. Two overpowered Morgan's partner and the other took his shape, returning to Morgan and nearly beating him to death with tendrils shaped from his own flesh before unmasking him and dropping him into the ocean several miles out. Morgan regained consciousness partway through the flight, and when the other nova dropped him, he played dead for a few minutes before performing the aerial equivalent of a drunken stagger to the nearest hospital. And so Morgan never wears a mask.

Since then Morgan's track record has been considerably more shiny and respectable. He's managed to competently complete every assignment he's given with a minimum of fuss, if a bit of flair. Morgan still has a tendency to overestimate his own abilities, compensating for the terrible beating he received, but more often than not he really is able to follow through, and has earned some respect in the elite community.

Overconfidence: You tend to overestimate your own abilities(a common failing among novas). In any situation when an assessment of your abilities is a factor, the Storyteller will tend to exaggerate them ("He doesn't look so tough to you," or "You've seen this kind of security system before and they're easy.") You must also make a Willpower roll at +1 Difficulty to back down at a direct challenge of your abilities. You can spend one Willpower point to ignore this flaw for one scene.
