Trinity RPG - Tales from Eden: One in a hundred.

Recommended Posts

A central theme in any apocalypse story is the notion that the protagonist will be the one of those very lucky one in a hundred, or even one in a million survivors of the plague, flood, famime, viral pandemic, asteroid impact, nuclear cataclysm, nanobot rebellion, or near-miss from a black hole which strips the atmosphere from the globe and kills the entire human race except for a fortunate few, who go on to have some kind of amazing adventure amidst the ruins of civilization.

In a startling number of these stories, either the protagonist's best friend or worst enemy will by utter chance also happen to draw that same Golden Ticket, and be allowed entry into the next phase of history.

This is not one of those stories.

Nova "Flicker" Madigan hit it lucky when she was conceived, and beat the million-to-one odds to go on to erupt and become a Nova. Forty-nine years later while she was visiting her mother in the very inner-city row-house where she had grown up, her luck would run out, as the city of Cleveland was utterly destroyed in an eyeblink late in the third year of the Aberrant War.

High above, in low earth orbit, Meghan Cutter turned her back on the earth forever and flew away towards the stars, trailing tears and not fire behind her.
