"We only have a few more hours, Sam," Adrian whispers. "I'm not sure you can wear this guy down before have to be gone. Do you think you can convince him to talk, or do we move on to the 'calling the cops' part? If we do, how do we set the scene for these two guy doing time?"

He looks over to Rorx going over the evidence and Jeremy sitting guard over the older of the two Hunters, gagged and blindfolded as he was.

"What do you think we should do?"

"It's quite simple really," Samantha said, speaking loudly enough for both the prisoners to hear he clearly. "We know they are guilty and so they either tell us what we want to know or we kill them. Better two dead murderers than two live ones eh?" She swings and her fist connects solidly with the older man's throat, not hard enough to collapse his trachea, but more than enough to cause him to choke and cough. She leans in close to the younger man, "One of my friends is choking the life out of your buddy there, and as you can hear he's doing it the hard and painful way. Tells us what we want to know and we won't do it to you as well. Come on kid, I just want to know why you targeted and killed Dash Norton?"

Moss sees a .308 caliber rifle that matches the casings and Sam's vision. However, he cannot find anything that indicates where these weapons had come from.

The Hunter that Sam threatened took a slow breath. Then he burst out, "You're with them, so you should know!" Then his voice changed, as if he was lecturing a foolish child. "Satan brought his spawn to plague the world. Creatures of the night, like your vampire friend who shot us. That demon we executed was one of them."

"Okay, that brought some clarity. I'm glad I didn't shoot the wrong guys. Still, we need to know where they kept all their gear and who they were working with."

Whispering to Sam, he adds,

"I think you have this guy on the ropes. Keep it up."

He looks over at the gear Moss has gathered and tries to figure out if the werewolf has missed anything.

Samantha laughed, "A Vampire?! You'd better come up with something better than that!" Vampire? She looked at Adrian sideways out of the corner of her eye, then at the other two men, men she barely knew. Vampire? Ludicrous, vampires are just old legends. Aren't they? "Tell the truth or I start breaking fingers." She took a pencil out of her pocket and broke it in half with one hand as she reached out and pinched the other man's flesh, twisting it violently to elicit an anguished cry of pain. "The next finger is yours boy, answer the questions truthfully or you'll be lucky if you can pick up a cup to drink before this night is through."

  • 2 weeks later...

It was getting on to dawn when Sam finally broke him down. Harold, the young guy, had his sister go missing and he saw the creatures that took her. No one had believed him, he sobbed, because the monsters left no trace.

He went to the internet and found a web site that helped catalog such actions and gave a dire warning. Mockery of their loved ones would return and feed on the souls of decent humans. He met a poster named Rooster13 who told him about the first guy they wasted. They had followed him for days watch out for others of "his kind" and figured they had a few then they killed the fiend (Dash). The kid has no remorse, convinced he was in the right.

The older man's story they also got from the kids. Gus' son had been acting odd for years when one day he was in a car accident with his son. Gus was badly hurt, but his son's broken arm turned into brush and grass. The creature fixed it before the ambulance arrived. No one believed his story either.

When he got home, the creature tried to explain to him that his real son was in a better place living out his life in a land of never ending promise. Gus responded by dosing it in gasoline and burning it up along with his entire house. Knowing the cops would never believe him, he took of for a life on the run. he too had been drawn to LA and Harold by Rooster13.

That was the story Harold told. AFter his confession, the people in the room were left to ponder what they had found. Adrian hurriedly suggested they leave the two for the police. As they got down to the cars, they barely said their farewells. It had been a grinding night.

Jeremy left first. He had disturbing news for his kin. Sam and Adrian left next, mulling over the fanaticism and willing ness to be decieved of men. Moss left last. The sirends could be heard and he made sure the last traces of them were gone. They were all gone, but the case remained with one loose end. Would it be forgotten, or would Jeremey find the answer for who was really behind this?
