opnet [OpNet] Seasons Premier: VoH

Hey folks.

I had the opportunity to do some jack-and-skip work for N! last week and got a copy of the new promo for VoH from a friend there. Thought some of you might get a kick out of it.

It's scheduled to run officially this Friday so don't sweat the details.

SEASON TWO - PREMIER OF VALOR OF HEROES

DARKNESS

The sound of a drop of liquid falling on a hard surface is heard

VOICE OVER

Woman

The strategy was simple.

CUT TO:

INT - ELEGANTLY SPACIOUS OFFICE HIGH ABOVE THE CITY

CLOSE UP

On the mirrored sunglass lenses worn by Leader, the head of Shadow Force. He is looking out over a major city in daylight and we see its distorted reflection in the lenses. Also in the room is another person, a woman by her voice, though don't see her.

Leader (amused)

How unfortunate they didn't get the message after our last engagement.

(Woman)

Agreed. I'm curious as to your next step. Will you allow them to regroup?

Leader

No. Tell the world what they already suspect then let the fear do the work for us.

CUT TO:

DARKNESS

Another droplet of liquid is heard to fall.

VOICE OVER

WOMAN

The tactics complex.

CUT TO:

INT - DIRECTIVE MOBILE OPERATIONS CENTER

PROFILE

Satellite feeds are coming in from all over the world in the dimly lit room with tiny color lights visible in the background of the shot. We see Janus nearly nose to nose with Sarah Danner.

Janus (Angry whisper)

You're betraying them!

Sarah (hissing)

Betrayed. Past tense. Which bothers you more? Me

having done it or you having done nothing to stop me?

CUT TO:

EXT- A LANDING STRIP IN LAOS

ANGLE

Remainder of the Dade's team are on their knees, heads bowed with hands clasped behind their heads, surrounded by dozens of armed soldiers wearing gray and blue uniforms. The officer in charge stands in front holding a data chip examining it.

Officer (nonchalant)

So this was worth Dade's life?

The officer finishes his examination and, watching the reactions of the captured ELITES, opens his hand and turns it over. The crystal falls to the ground and bounces with a delicate ringing sound.

Officer (mockingly)

Pity.

SKYSHOT

The view as seen from the crystal as the officer's foot comes down slowly from the sky. The screen turns black with a crunching sound. We hear an Elite's voice (Argos?) shout "NO" then the sound of gunfire.

CUT TO:

DARKNESS

Another droplet of liquid is heard to fall.

VOICE OVER

WOMAN

Precise.

CUT TO:

EXT - A POLICE BARRICADE

WIDE ANGLE

Its night time and the police augmented by soldier in gray and blue uniforms surround a multistory building.

Detective (thru bullhorn)

You have sixty seconds remaining.

CUT TO:

DARKNESS

Another droplet of liquid is heard to fall.

VOICE OVER

WOMAN

Effective

CUT TO:

INT - DETENTION FACILITY YARD

WIDE ANGLE

A man in an immaculate white suit stands atop a tower flanked by armed personnel in light blue and gray uniforms addressing the occupants of the prison yard. Unlike most prisons the population here is mixed male and female

and relatively small. All wear identical shapeless drab gray overalls nearly the same color as the walls surrounding them. All wear the same vacantly distant expression. Each wears a collar of silver metal with a blinking green light. From the physiques and subdued anima evidenced here and there we know these are novas.

Warden (warmly)

Please think of this as an opportunity. An opportunity to fit in.

(pause)

An opportunity to work for the benefit of society and

become productive in a positive way. To better yourselves.

REAR ANGLE

The warden pauses looking over his quiet charges.

Warden (sternly)

Your last opportunity.

CUT TO:

DARKNESS

Another droplet of liquid is heard to fall.

VOICE OVER

Woman

People only wanted to be safe. That doesn't seem so terrible.

CUT TO:

OPNET BROADCAST

A beautiful and plastically perfect woman smiles happily for the camera as she announces the news. Though a bit vacuous there is a vibrancy to her that makes her male counterpart seem drab by comparison. In the background plays sterile footage for the events as they speak.

Female newscaster

Also today; terrorists suffered devastating losses in New Guinea today as U.N. forces responded to isolated illegal assemblage violations. The TRINITY Organization issued this statement.

CUT TO:

RECORDED STATEMENT

Another plastic pretty head speaks to us as the broadcast switches to the recording.

TRINITY PR

It's unfortunate but there will always be malcontents. While we regret the destruction in the city, caused by irresponsible terrorists acting in defiance of the law, it is necessary to remember this use of force was authorized by the U.N. Security Council. Acting as responsible citizens of the world society there was no choice. We feel the operation was a complete success and despite the wide spread destruction the city itself was saved. Occupation is only temporary.

CUT TO:

OPNET BROADCAST

Male newscaster

In other news, the member nations of the U.N. authorize funding for the "responsible citizens" act. Widely debated, especially in the U.S., this act requires gifted citizens to attend training provided by TRINITY Organization free or charge.

(turning to female newscaster)

Have you attended yet Michelle?

Female newscaster (looking into the camera)

Well, of course I did. It was a very pleasant experience and not a bother at all! TRINITY personnel made every effort to accommodate my busy schedule and I don't know what the fuss is all about.

In other news TRINITY announces the official

inauguration of it's new social reform programs...

CLOSE UP

She turns to smile at her counterpart and as she does her hair is drawn away from the side of her neck and we see a series of black lines like a barcode tattoo.CUT TO:DARKNESS

MONTAGE SHOTS

A large business office with drab people going about their normal concerns. In the background plays a sterile and mind numbing series of TRINITY PR announcements from screen mounted where they intrude on everyone.

A laboratory where the doors suddenly burst open and security personnel in gray/blue uniforms enter to begin rounding up personnel and confiscating computer systems and papers. One man resists a security officer, appearing to reach for his cup of coffee, and is immediately thrown to the ground and hand cuffed.

School lunchroom where amid the oddly quiet children monitors mounted on the walls play constantly shifting colors patterns that resolve into the TRINITY logo every few seconds before melting away.

CUT TO:

DARKNESS

VOICE OVER

Woman

We forgot to ask the price.

CUT TO:

INT- TRINITY Operations Room

WIDE ANGLE

Shadow Force personnel are gearing up for what looks to be a major operation. Everyone is serious and the room fairly crackles with suppressed energy. The view PANS around the room taking in the activity then we DOLLY to the corner where Divine Light stands close to Enchantress and talking quietly. Divine Light's body language is like a coiled spring would almost to the breaking point in contrast to Enchantress who seems to have not a care in the world.

Divine Light (whispers)

We can't do this! It'll be a blood bath

Enchantress (conversationally)

And your point is?

CUT TO:

INT - RUINED STRUCTURE

CLOSE UP:

Small child of Indian descent dressed in near rags

Child (Accented English)

Are we going to die?

CUT TO:

DARKNESS

CLOSE UP

With a sound like a flare igniting, a soft red glow bursts into existence outlining the clenched fist it emanates from. In the in the dim red glow we pan back and slowly take in the muscled arm streaked with blood that looks black in the red light. This is the sound of the dripping liquid we've been hearing. The camera continues to DOLLY back and in the dim light we can make out a group of figures, maybe twenty novas, standing in a V formation. Their features are mostly lost in shadow but here and there eyes or other body parts begin to glow and the scene conveys a sense of purpose.

CUT TO:

INT - RUINED STRUCTURE

ANGLE REAR:

Same small Indian child but from a different angle. Between the viewer and the child stands a tightly muscles woman stage right and her as we watch her body shimmers and takes on glossy reflective hue. Its the Rebecca "Mercury" Whitecloud returning in her role of Steel: Cast Iron Bitch.

(Bonnie-

VoH won the lawsuit so lets push Rebecca in their collective face hard this season. Devries put her off-season after that Egyptian Op while Utopia whines to the world court again so she's available. Plus she can act her ass off.

- CHKD)

Steele drops to one knee and rests her hand on the child's shoulder lightly.

Steele

Not today. I promise.

CUT TO:

INT - ASSEMBLED ELITES

VOICE OVER

Woman

And they forgot who they were dealing with.

CUT TO:

CUE SEASON TWO THEME AND MONTAGE SHOTS

How dare you say my behavior's unacceptable

So condescending, unnecessarily critical

I have a tendency of getting very physical

So watch your step cuz if I do you'll need a miracle

1. Soldiers surround a bunker which abruptly blows up. From the smoky wreckage emerges a single of fiery figure that leaps into the air.

You drain me dry and make me wonder why I'm even here

The double vision I was seeing is finally clear

You want to stay but you know very well I want you gone

Not fit to tread the fuckin' ground I'm walking on

2. A single nova walks through an institution facility like the angel of death come to call.

(Bonnie -

This scene alone should justify the restricted rating but remember its not about the gore or the slash adrenaline. Cold and machine precision is what's going to work best. We could use a couple of our regular wax faces but take a look at getting Jordan Rossi. And tell Nemie that if I hear he's whining about using Skew one more time I'm gonna kick his freakin' skinny ass. I would listen to argument for using a female in the role provided we can get someone whose presence would be an equal contrast. I wanna use Apep if she'll do it but can you afford the insurance?

3. Two soldiers screaming at each other to move faster in their APC. A sliver of reflective material oozes through the back and forms into a beautiful woman of liquid metal. "Hi sailor, new in town?" she asks. Cut to outside of vehicle as they're flung out.

And like a little girl that cries in the face of a monster that lives in her dreams

Is there anyone out there cause it's getting harder to breathe.

4. Montage shots quicken to a strobe like space as the theme song continues to play. Each shot lasts just long enough to recognize an Elite working and several show them going up against other novas (most recognizable as Shadow Force).

CUT TO:

INT - ABANDONED HANGAR

REAR ANGLE

The remains of Dade's team of Elites cluster around a crack in the wall peering out where we can share their view of TR "Peacekeeper" forces bringing out the heavy artillery.

Judgment

Now what?

Mustang Sally (seriously)

Same as always. Complete the mission. (pause) Then get laid.

Judgment (wrinkling nose)

You might want to take a moment to clean up.

Mustang Sally

Ya think?

Yet another Military-Industrial Complex gone amok?

This sounds just like the Planetary and Authority crap my son used to read. Just substitute the United States/Multi-Nationals with a UN/Project Utopia clone.

It is a small compliment to say that it is marginally better than some of the drek that Utopia pumps out.

I wonder if some Teragen front-company is behind the production? Ashnod, Mr. Meehan? Any comment?

In my experience the Teragen is much more up front with our messages. We have no reason to hide. In any case, a melodrama showing the Elite population in a heroic and noble light is really not all that close to our hearts.

I do have a friend however who is almost fanatically dedicated to the program and is eagerly awaiting the upcoming season. He seems to find it most enlightening, so, who can ever guess what people will find interesting.

Pandemonium Productions is a Teragen owned company. It owns how many subsidiaries? Orzaiz has how many investments? This gives him clought in how many corporate offices world-wide?

I doubt it would take that much effort for any group of novas to put their minds together and set up a few 'untraceable' fronts. Hell, I could do it.

As for it not being the Teragen's style: Listen up. Do you ever get the feeling that the right hand doesn't know what the left tentacle is doing? It may just be an elaborate smoke screen, but for what reason? I don't think they have their act all together over there.

Don't tell me you're still in VCR mindset? Goddamn! The fee for requesting reruns from Opnet providers aren't usually that high. If you really want I still have a dummy account that won't cost you a cent (Perk. Don't ask).

Still, wasn't a bad episode, as Opdrama goes. (No, it wasn't me watching. It was the rest of the bloody office...)

Hey, don't knock the DVD just yet. I could probably hold 8 episodes of VoH through using some video compression trickery. And it still works in a player!

Besides, there are too many competing formats to worry about other players... Sometimes I wish the opnet was just the classic internet. You know, usnet boards and bbs systems. Man I wish I was born then. All the fun I could have had!

Perhaps I should make more of an attempt to stay abreast of what is "popular" in the mainstream media these days. I find I know nothing about this opnet drama though some co-workers described it as "slash".

Would anyone have a moment to provide some background? Nothing detailed just enough to decide whether its worth my time or not.

Been under a rock, Doutor?

VoH is an up-and-coming quasi reality drama centered squarely on Elites and the life style. The good and bad, the sacrifice and the excesses, the bond of brotherhood as well as the knife sliding into your back from the shadows. Aside from being slash it thrills the little folks with the assertion that everything documented has happened in real life if not necessarily in the exact manner described.

The show started climbing up the charts last year following the guest appearance by Pursuer in the role of a baseline general that erupts which I think was episode 4 or 5. Been rising every since.
