Aberrant RPG - The New FAQ

The time has come again, my friends! We on "The New Flesh" team have another portion of the book that we would like player imput from.

What we want to do is make a small 'FAQ' for the book that can help people with different portions of the books, more specifically the combat related portions.

We aren't looking to start any major arguements about this. We are looking for problems and errors that may or may not have been cought.

What we would like to do here is to have anyone who has a question, to post the question. Anyone who has an opinion on to how it should be handled, post your opinion. Any references to rules in other places that could help with the questions would be wonderful and preferred.

Disclaimer: We are not trying to create new rules for the system with this FAQ. We are just clearifying rules that may have errors in them. This is not an official FAQ in any way. This is a fan FAQ to help out fans.

Here's a few:

Healing Aggravated damage, since the rules actually list two different ways.

Suggested categories for Invulnerability. (ie, fire, bullets, etc)

A table of number conversions. Most players seem to be American, and therefore don't know the metric system perfectly. There's also some numbers that are damn useful to know, such as the speed of sound (for Hyperspeed characters) and distances between major Nova spots.

Expand on material strengths, soaks, and costs. Anyone wanting to build a nova base, or a nova gadget, frankly needs more than the little bitty chart in the core book. Especially since it doesn't include nova-tech materials such as Vitrium, Eufiber, Quan-steel (for Q-armor; this may be a just-my-storyteller thing so disregard if you've never heard of it).

That's all I can think of at the moment.

A table of number conversions. Most players seem to be American, and therefore don't know the metric system perfectly. There's also some numbers that are damn useful to know, such as the speed of sound (for Hyperspeed characters) and distances between major Nova spots.

Metric conversion:

1 inch (in) = 25.4 mm

1 foot (ft) = 12 in = 30.48 cm

1 yard (yd) = 3 ft = 91.44 cm

1 mile (mi) = 5280 ft = 1760 yd = 1.609344 km

Or roughly, three meters are about 10 feet.

Speeds:

Speed of sound through air (about) 343 m/s or 1125 ft/s

One Mach: 1,225 km/h or 761.2 MPH or the speed of sound.

Speed of Light in vaccum: 299,792,458 metres per second or 1,079,252,848.8 km/h or approximately 186,282.397 miles or realy freaking fast.

Suggested categories for Invulnerability

Fire

Radioactivity

Light

Sound

Acid

Plasma

High velocity objects

Poisons/gases

I usually use 330m/s for the speed of sound at sea level, but you have to remember that the speed of sound decreases as you gain height - I think it's something like 630mph at 30,000ft (instead of 760mph), depending on air pressure.

This is probably an unnecessary complication though, and I only include it for realism purposes (for those who want to complicate things).

You could add electricity, water, light and cold to the list of invulnerabilities.

Light could be expanded to be the EM Spectrum - which would cover everything from cosmic rays, gamma, x-ray, IR, visible light, UV, microwave to radio waves.

This could lead to a separation of wave based radiation from particle based radiation, ie: Gamma and X-rays (or high frquency EM) from Alpha(helium nuclei) and Beta(free electrons) and other high energy particles - which can, in a pinch, be termed radiation.

Personally I would recommend having access to a high school physics text book - they generally keep things simple enough for easy adaptation and contain just enough detail to get you by.

"High velocity objects" could be shortened to "Ballistics" right?

I can't really think of anything else, but what about an expanded "impromptu" weapons list. The one in Aberrant had a few good ones, like cars and stuff, but this book could justify expanding that right? With Mega-Strength 5, a car being used as a bat just won't cut it when you can use a sequoia.

Also, I can't remember if it was Trinity or Aberrant, but I remember reading on-line that there was a mix-up with some kind of healing time for Bashing or Lethal or Aggravated. Or something. I can't remember. Does anyone else?

Actually, the Abbie book does list damages for the average tree..
