Trinity RPG - How to get Vermilion???

Hi everyone,

I desperately need your help ::nervous in my ongoing trinity session. We are playing the "Alien Encounter - Invasion" right now and my players are messing everything up.

Since two weeks I am trying to get the interview with Vermilion done. But they hate him (and me as well by now) and are not aware of the importance of their relationship with him. And last session they even averted the kidnapping by acting absolutely childish and unrealistic, chasing the well armed kidnappers in their pyjamas, nearly dying themselves, nearly killing Vermilion and giving me the hugest headaches as game master ever. ::sneaky2

In the end I had to give up and let them save him if I did't want my whole players dying in one totally out of control showdown. Since then I am really furious and don't know how to bring the story back in line.

My players hate Vermilion and do not treat him with much respect. Before he should have been kidnapped they were discussing if they should force the information out of him. Vermilion is seriously hurt and was drugged during the whole scene so he's not aware of their rescue mission. Now he is seriously hurt and is really, really pissed off.

So pleeeeease if there is someone out there knowing this problem and hating this little bastard as much as I do, I need your help!!!

Thanks for now!

What you've gotta ask yourself is - why do your players hate Vermillion? Is it because they're frustrated trying to communicate with him? If its that then perhaps try making it easier by bringing in an NPC who is into this sort of thing to supply a few hints that the players can pick up.

On the other hand, if they hate him and are being unreasonable about the whole thing - maybe its best to leave it be. Let them hear about some other team that figured it out. Maybe find a way to get them involved later in the adventure.

And - if you want my opinion about chasing people in your pjs - I think that's a demonstration of extraordinary commitment! ::tongue

Well, as I recall Vermilion plans an ambush for them anyway, and only really comes to their aid because his own people turn on him and the players defend him. Essentially the same thing can still happen, just play it a little darker. Vermilion throws them a bone so that he can get home, and once the players get there and are hopelessly stranded in the middle of a warzone they're just out his assist. Thats fine, there is a version of the ending where the players don't make it out ok, and don't make the beginings of peace with the chromatics. As is, it looks like that's where your players are going.

Admittedly my players did what they were supposed to do, but I can see why your players would hate Vermillion (a member of an alien race that has been attacking those near and dear to them).

My players decided early on that Vermillion was going to help them win the war; if they could master his language (without the nifty translator device), then they could do a lot of damage to the Chromie cause. Thus, they started doing weird things like combining talents (telepathy and photokinesis), and decided to take advantage of the time on the C-P to get his trust.

If you could get your players on some sort of similar track, possibly by shifting it to financial reasons rather than security.

Then again, if they're just being unreasonable, then this is probably the wrong kind of game for them in the first place...

Thanks alot guys,

I figured it out with them this weekend. Fortunately this time they got it right!!! ::bigsmile

I simply let one of the superiors file a complaint about their behaviour and let them get informed about this through an allied assistant. They had to choose between this mission or joining other ground forces on Chrome Prime.

Fortunately they recognised how little time was left for them to convince Vermillion. And this time they were really good and asked the right questions. So now I can proceed as intended.

And - if you want my opinion about chasing people in your pjs - I think that's a demonstration of extraordinary commitment

Please I hope they will never read this or I will hear it each and everytime something is going wrong! ::crazy

I just knew from the beginning that my players would screw up with this - normally they are not into this sort of investigation kind of game.

Anyway it worked out. Thanks for your suggestions - they did help ::smiley5
