Archer21
Okay, can anyone give me a basic rundown of how the freeform psi rules are supposed to work? The TPG is impossible to find. ProfPotts described it as being similar to the way Mage handles Spheres and their abilities. Is that accurate? Are there any mechanics I should be aware of? Finbar
Essentials for a quick snack:1) You can combine the way your primary aptitude work (for example, teleporting yourself and a bad guy's gun so you meet up behind him); auxilliary modes may not mix, even if from the same aptitude.2) You can use a primary mode to "cover" another mode; so I could Fade with Translocation 3+, but at a difficulty modifer.3) The various effects are split into parameters (such as Range, Familiarity, Utility, Effect, etc) that you need to spend successes for. You gain half the mode as free successses.4) The Big Thing: Effects can be chracted on the spot.Hope that helps until that page comes up....FR

pscion
Hey all, I just wanted to pop in with my two cents. I have the TPG and even I was turned off by the freeform psi rules. They seemed to over-complicate things, and iot looked as if White Wolf was at a loss to create an even remotely interesting psi power using their new rules. I snapped up the book when it first came out simply because of the freeform effects, upon reading them I quickly found them rather clumsily stitched together. White Wolf also sprinkles hints as the parameters and results you should purchase whenever they provide an example. I can say that it is sometimes troublesome to guess the correct result to purchase for a chosen effect. They aren't as freeform as you think, as many powers require some appropriate, but illogical rules. For instance, Biokinesis, Adaptation Level 5 is called Survival while allows the "psion to cope with even the most serious physical threats, reducing - if not negating - their effect. The psion can invest Psi in additional Wounded health levels (at most three per attempt)."As you can see, how freeform can it be when White Wolf has already provided restrictions before you even have started to create the power?I believe Trinity fans can create a more streamlined and concise freeform system with some more "thinking outside of the box". However, if you ever do find a copy of TPG, its definitely worth it solely for the descriptions of the Orders, their training process, and even what happens when you dare try to leave one
Shopping Mal
Personally, I'd screw the limitations, and work it a lot like Mage. The only thing I'd really look and check would be broad classifications of the abilities of each Mode level and where successes could be spent.
