Obsidian Shade
hoiShapeshift seems to have no limit. you can even shift into an dragon. but what about shifting in something else than animals or things? like Martian Manhunter (JLA, DC Comics)? shifting in something strange and alien? is your own imagination the only limit?thx
Bahamut810
Pretty much...just remember that there are limits to what you can do! (i.e. you only have so many dots to shapeshift with!)
Alex Green
Yes, but remember all you are doing is changing your form (i.e. shifting your shape). Shapeshift isn't BodyMorph and it isn't Matter Cham.
phoenix
Shapeshift isn't BodyMorph and it isn't Matter Cham. That's not true. You can change your substance with Shapeshift (example: a shapeshifter generates chitin for an exoskeleton, or feathers for wings). Following that logic, it makes sense for a shapeshifter to be able to even turn their body into solid rock. They just wouldn't be able to move, as they would if they were using BM or MC. That way, the latter two remain useful in their own right. Of course, even a shapeshifter couldn't turn his body into, say, shadows, electromagnetic energy, or the like. ProfPotts
No, Alex is correct on this one - Shapeshift alters shape only,"Effect: Allows character to alter her shape", (p220)There was a really long discussion on this very topic on the WW forum - I think we convinced most people in the end! ::wink
Obsidian Shade
what about: "[...] she can turn herself into various animals, pieces of furniture of just about anything else she can think of. [...]" (p 221)you can be an arrow or a chair, i think. but what i want to know:i can think of many things... so, what about a whale with wings? or a mystic creatures? did you have to have a existing orginal you can thin of or can you create without limit (huuu, i hope this words make sense ::blink )
Bahamut810
Its STM based so you are limited to (M-Stm)+ (Stm+Shapeshift)d10 dots in successes that *cannot* be used with quantum energy based effects or mega atts...for the dragon example...you can make a dragon your mass that has claws, size morph, and even use successes in body mods (i think it would translate to a 1 dot for 1 effect from the descript)As long it is a physical effect you can duplicate it...flight is possible with wings. It dosent say you cant make things taht arent physically possible...like...lets say a *huge* ant (sizemorph, Claws, whathave you)What I want to know is...Can you add att points with it? ProfPotts
what about: \"[...] she can turn herself into various animals, pieces of furniture of just about anything else she can think of. [...]\" (p 221)Yes - the character can take those shapes, but not the related / implied substances. Altering substance is the realm of Bodymorph or Matter Chameleon. So - you can shift to look like (for example) a metal chair, but you're not actually made of metal, you just look like you are. What I want to know is...Can you add att points with it?As written - no; unless your ST allows you to spend successes on the Boost power or something (which I wouldn't, BTW). However, for some shapes it seems pretty reasonable to allow 1 success to add 1 attribute dot, instead of a dot of a power, (which would be my take on it). You can also spend successes on stuff like Sizemorph - Grow which adds Attribute points as part of the effect.
