SnakeEyes
::smiley5 Part of my current campaign involves a large mega-corp war. I could easily just carry on as normal in my own way... but then I may become too predictable. Any suggestions as how to go about it or what to include? Slagheap
My group is about to start down a simular path with what we are calling our sequel game. We're gonna deal alot with mega-corps, and to make it more personal we are planning on making use of alot of family ties, to the point that everyone in the game has to have relation to some other character or NPC.As far as any real specifics go I'm not sure what to give you other than the basics, but I love using factions in factions, have good guys and bad guys on both sides. I'm sure that when Victor gets back from his vacation he'll beable to give you more info on the whole mega-corp thing, it was his idea to do this in our next game.-Slag
Sprocket
Stay away from getting the fast-food mega-corps (Pizza Belle, Robo-Burger, Cyber-Sushi, etc.), unless you want the situation to develop a strongly absurdist flavor... ::tongue
SnakeEyes
They're not Mega-Corps... they only come in Large and Diet.(Sorry... couldn't help myself ::cool )Anywho... you mean that McDonalds isn't around in the 22nd century? I mean... their sevice was poor, but their veggie burgers were better than most places (except V1 in nottingham... the totally vegetarian fast-food restaurant...) Finbar
Slightly more seriously...1) Check out Shadowrun, replacing mages with psions....That should put you in the right frame of mind...2) Keep in mind that several countries (most notably the FSA) let mega-corps do what they want...Personal army? No problem...3) Keep in mind that a lot of the warfare will take place at parties and boardrooms. For those of you who like that role-playing stuff...Try a true ballroom blitz sometime ::bigsmile ...FR
Sprocket
Re: Why McDonald's didn't make it into the Trinity era-Well, there was that little thing called the Aberrant War, SnakeEyes- Seeing as most of the old United States (and Europe) were pretty much reduced to heaps of smoking rubble amidst lifeless wastelands at the time, you can see why the Golden Arches became a thing of the past...Is that a good or bad thing? Your call, but I wouldn't miss 'em, or Burger King, either! ::laughBTW, you might want to rent a certain Sylvester Stallone movie by the name of Demolition Man The movie's not that great, but the tech is just about Trinity-comparable. That's probably also where the designers of Trinity got the idea for Pizza Belle in the first place!
Ayre el KaBeer
Re: Why McDonald's didn't make it into the Trinity era-Well, there was that little thing called the Aberrant War, SnakeEyes- Seeing as most of the old United States (and Europe) were pretty much reduced to heaps of smoking rubble amidst lifeless wastelands at the time, you can see why the Golden Arches became a thing of the past...I don't know... Australia was virtually untouched by the abbie war and we have heaps of them scattered all over the country. It's hard to imagine the very few abberrant attacks on Aus all targeted Maccas (aus slang). I have an idea! McDonald's was using Nova tech shake machines! When the angry mob's turned up to destroy the machines the pimple faced employees, who were never given the order to surrender the shake makers, died deffending them. With no employees left to work for them Maccas was forced to shut down! It was believed that Ronald McDonald is dead, however the Hamburgular is still at large, if you see someone matching his description, do not aproach! he is armed and very dangerous, please call police 555-5555. SnakeEyes
::laugh hehe...I was thinking that since a town square in russia (is it red square? heck, I don't know much about that country) has 5 McDonalds, yes, five in one square, that McDonalds woulds survive like a cockroach in a plague house...Finbar- Yes... the FSA.... (It no longer exists in my campaign... along with practically every other country. Earth's still there though... but the biggest companies are not human) Two of my companies have 'Lower Level Security Forces' ::sly . I'm dissappointed no-one mentioned industrial espionage... or just espionage...Shadow Run and Demolition Man... k. Great... (GDI! Why do I never get round to watching that movie? I'm sure I have it somewhere...)Any more tips for a poor, defenseless loony?Handy tip of the day- Don't prod the purple goldfish to see if it's real. You'll probably be disappointed. Sprocket
Re: McDonald's in Australia- Yeah, the blasted things probably WOULD survive like cockroaches... Although they're supposed to be having trouble attracting customers in the U.K., thanks to the locals' taste for Indian cuisine. ::biggrin If you simply MUST have McDonald's in the Trinity Era, check out a movie called The Fifth Element by Luc Besson- his take on a futuristic Golden Arches is wonderfully ludicrous! ::tongue
Umoja
Shadowrun is the best example of Corporate Warfare. Look at Renaraku Arcology Shutdown, and Blood in the Board Room (even just the cover of blood in the board room). Corporations pack more heat then most nations do in Shadowrun, so that'd be a good example in the extreme.
Ayre el KaBeer
Been meaning to have a closer look at shadowrun for a while, what's it like?
Nullifier
It's one of the most lethal systems I've ever played... with the exception of Paranoia. It's like cyberpunk, sorta, but with magic. Mega-corps and private security forces run everything, all the magical creatures are back, and barely biological street samurais look for work in the shadows... Gideon
While ShadowRun has a lot of Corporate vs Corporation senarios the Cyberpunk 2020 products (may be out of print now??) have a huge amount of coporate files, I actually adapted their Project Europa book to my underwater Arcology campaign. Its about the right tech level without Psions. If you want straight cyberpunk is CP2020, if you want supernatural events like magic and beasties with cyber its Shadowrun. They both have Corp oriented materials, but each have a slightly different focus.
Umoja
The interesting thing in Shadowrun is also, that Corporations will kill to get more Mages on their payroll, that could be adapted for Psions as well.
SnakeEyes
Wow... ::blink I Thought this thread was dead. Shadow Run again... right I'll have to look into it... Thankyou everybody, and thanx Umoja for book title suggestions (Helps refine the search, cheers!)Cheers,SnakeEyes(I still haven't watched Demo Man ::smiley4 ... You watch, it's gonna be years till it comes on terrestrial channels again, like Aliens 3. I kept wanting to watch that, but I waited about 3 years. Then when it came on, I missed it because they didn't bloody advertise it!I found out the next day ::smiley4 )
