Bryantgries
I am just starting a campaign this week, but it looks like I won't be playing with this idea so I thought I'd post it here and see what other people thought. If someone has already done something with this, i'm sorry. My idea is that you take the Directive from the Aberrant time, and see what happens to it in 100 hears. The Directive was funded by Japan, Russia, Great Britain, the US and Germany. Interestingly enough, China was apparently not involved, although they did finally take care of the nova problem. The Directive was the most paranoid organization of the 21st century, and it turns out that their suspicions about the Nova's were largely correct. I suspect that as the 22nd rolls around, they are still around, but very secretive--having retreated into greater paranioa. They fear the psions the same way they feared the Novas, and for the same reasons. But they could be a valuable contact for Psions--more than any other organization of the 21st century, they new how unpowered humans could take out Abarrents. They had technology and drugs specially designed for that reason. The most obvious place for the Psions to encounter the Directive would be Omsk, Russia. A decommisioned military base used to incarcerate Novas, and still containing their files is there. But what to the Psions find when they arrive there?- A still operative Directive, happy for some Psions to interrogate and experiment on?,,- A struggling directive running out of funding, frusterated and angry at their situation, but not in a place to sieze your team?- An empty base, complete with scrambled files and aberrant skeletons? Possibly a few aberrants in the shadows?- Or possibly an abarrent of the thinking/planning type decided that the Directive would be an excellent cover--and is secretly controlling the base.Anyway something to think about.Bryant
Slagheap
I have on several occasions considered using the Directive in the Trinity era, but I never have decided exactly how to run them. I would probably use them as some kind of small, now privately funded organization that keeps tabs on Abbies and psions.I also like the idea of the abandoned base tho.-Slag
knave
I rather like this idea... but I think that it's highly unlikely that Japan would be involved - given how much it has to hide and how paranoid it has been about doing just that. Russia, Britain, Germany - perfect - it would explain why there has been so little Psion activity in those areas ::cool
SnakeEyes
Cool.... Something else to add to my campaign. Nice one. And the 'Running out of funding' option is a great stereotype for old orgs in Russia, don't you think?
Finbar
Actually did run The Directive in my campaign...players hated me for it ::devil...Basically assumed The Directive never shut down; it assumed the abbies would be back. But, when The Orders showed up, they treated them the same way they would have treated abbies (keep in mind that The Directive was formed due to a fear of what novas could (and did) become; it made sense that they'd treat the psions with the same respect). So, I threw in a couple of anti-psi devices, a cloakd-and-dagger theft, and a few misdirects, and had a reasonably weird game where normals held all the cards...FR
Captether
It would be interesting if the Directive in the Trinity era used psychomorphs as special operatives. Being as that they arise naturally in humanity rather than using alien technology. Perhaps the Directive through its matchless spy network, knows more about the Prometheus chambers and biotechnology. The directive would have an interesting edge if it had operatives that were psychomorphs and possibly some aberrant tech left over from the days before the war.-Aaron
knave
I'd quite like the directive to be entirely human - having grown ultra-paranoid about 'super types'. A bunch of baselines who know EVERYTHING - about project rewrite, and pretty much everything else... but they've been... suppressed by Aeon... heh heh... Gawd I love moral quandries... ::biggrin
Sprocket
I admit, I like the idea of the Directive surviving as an organization into the Trinity era too. Given the amount of cleanup they had to do in putting all the nova-derived tech they could get their mitts on into the smelter or the high-security storage vaults, it would be surprising if they hadn't made it to 2121 at least! ::smile There's only two problem with this, though... ::unsure 1- The United Nations: Given how the UN was practically running most of the planet with the help of Aeon (excepting China and Nippon, of course) by the end of the Aberrant War, there's a very real chance that it was subsumed the UN's command structure. If it still exists as a discrete entity, it's most likely a special division that specializes in dealing with aberrants.2- The Yakuza/Kuro-Tek/Nippon connection: Given how the Directive was so dependent on these folks for the hypertech that let them stand up as well as they did to rogue novas during the Aberrant War, it seems unlikely that they would've freed themselves completely from that influence. And the Yakuza had some hooks into the Directive deeply indeed... ::devil
