Slagheap
Okay, I've been running inspired characters in all the settings since Adventure! came out, But, there are a couple of knacks that I've had trouble applying. The first is Trick Shot. I understand how the system fro it works, but I have trouble deciding when to applying it. I'm not left with the feeling that it is suppose to apply to every shot. When do you guys allow it?The other I have trouble with is Sun Tzu's blessing. The concept is great, but what kind of in-game adds should it give? It seems like a great idea for a power, but the system got left out. How do you guys work this?-Slag
ProfPotts
Trick Shot - there's no reason you can't apply it to every shot, but you may not want to; since it halves the accuracy bonus to damage (&, I'd say, halves the maximum bonus as well, from +5 to +2) if you want to 'just' kill a guy you'd be better off shooting him without using the Knack. Trick Shot is ideal for disarming enemies, shooting objects so that they fall on or otherwise strike an enemy (usually to convert your successes to Bashing damage instead of Lethal), causing objects to fall & trap enemies (tapestries in castles are great for this), embarrassing opponents by shooting their belts off (a modification to Intimidation maybe - shooting a hat off could do that too), etc., etc..Sun Tzu's Blessing is a bit more abstract, & depends on the type of game you play in. Generally the ST should give a character using this a bit more info or insight into the enemy's plans, weaknesses, etc.; or, make any tactical plan the character comes up with a bit more effective. The APG has a Wits-based Tactics Ability (p.88) that suggests you resolve simple conflicts with opposed Tactics rolls for the leaders, & (on a more 'mechanical' side) a successful roll grants a bonus, equal to the number of successes on the Tactics roll, that can be added to either Initiative or a single maneuver in a particular combat.Hope that helps some. Fallen_Seraph
Sun Tzu's blessing just seems to be a form of tactical analysis, so actually has more than battlefeild applications. Perhaps a theif could use it to break in, or a chess grandmaster
ProfPotts
Sun Tzu's blessing just seems to be a form of tactical analysis, so actually has more than battlefeild applications. Apart from the fact the text refers to 'battles' specifically throughout... ::sly The 'Tactical Prodigy' Mega-Intelligence Enhancement is a more general genius at tactics, if that's what you're looking for.Chess'd be a natural application though (since it is, basically, a battlefield simulation anyway). Fallen_Seraph
You can define many things as battles or conflicts. The actual term is very misleading as most people expect a huge conflict on a open plane when this is not the actual case.
Finbar
I'm sorta with Fallen Seraph on this one...Especially as one of the example is an ambush, which usually doesn't meet the criteria for a battle per se...Also, it can be used in any "other military- or tactics-related analysis", which would seem that any use of tactics would fall under its bailiwick...FR
