Aberrant RPG - Mega Sta, Soak and SM(Growth)

If a character already has Mega-Stamina(Resiliency) and also has the Sizemorph(Grow) power, do the additional dots to Stamina or Mega-Sta from SM(Grow) count towards the soak total of the Resiliency enhancement?

Such as:

Stamina 5

Mega-Sta 2(Resiliency)

SM(Growth) 2

Normally, character has a bare bones soak of 7 bashing, 3 lethal. Character activates Growth, giving him 2 more dots to Stamina(which carries over into Mega-Stamina).

Character should now have 9 bashing, 5 lethal soak. Is this correct?

Stamina 5 = Bashing Soak 5 / Lethal Soak 2 (his base Soak scores)

Mega-Stamina 2 = Bashing Soak +2 / Lethal Soak +1

Resiliency doubles the Mega-Stamina bonus for a total bonus of +4 Bashing Soak / +2 Lethal Soak. Total Soak = 9 Bashing / 4 Lethal

Mega-Stamina 4 = Bashing Soak +4 / Lethal Soak +2 (this is when his Sizemorph is active)

The Resiliency Enhancement still doubles this bonus, for a total bonus of +8 / +4. Added to the base Soak that leaves him with a total Sizemorphed Soak = 13 Bashing / 6 Lethal

It's a similar question to ask if bonus Mega-Str (from Sizemorph, Boost, or whatever) adds to the effectiveness of Enhancements such as 'Thunderclap' - & there's nothing to indicate that it doesn't.

So, with no other powers or Enhancements or equipment this guy'd have a Soak of 9 Bashing / 4 Lethal normally, & 13 Bashing / 6 Lethal when 24 feet tall.

however...if you take the Resiliency twice your soak would be:

for Normal Stm: 10/4

for M-Stm: 4/2

--------------------------

normal total: 14/6

With growth:

for Normal Stm: 10/4

for growth M-Stm:8/4

--------------------------

growth total: 18/8

If you spend the extra 3 NP you get 5 more bashing soak, 2 more Lethal soak...well worth it to be near rocket proof

  • 2 weeks later...

that's all cool, but how about extra bruised levels? u get 1 for each sizemorph grow, and what if the stamina bonus would add even more bruised levels? like u had 2 mega stamina so u'd get 1 extra bruised, and sizemorph is gonna give u 2 more stamina, which would normally give u another bruised...

That is the upside and the downside to SM:Growth.

You have 2 levels of SM:G, so you get +2 Bruised, and you get +2 M-Stam (which gives you another Bruised) for a total of +3. Since your M-Stamina went up by 2, your wound penaties went down by 2.

This is great while you have it. But then it turns off, and all those bonuses go away, and if you were hurt before now you are really hurt.

If you want an extreme case: 5 dots of SM:G. Stamina 5 (no M-Stamina), Strength 1 (no M-Str).

This person would grow to something like 200 ft tall and get M-Str = M-Stamina = 5. They would get +8 levels of bashing, and not notice when they were injured.

And if they were ever knocked out, the 15 levels of bashing needed to do that would kill them when their power turned off. Similarly, they could have 7 levels of lethal damage on them and not know not to turn off their growth.

i don't like the whole 8x your height thing, i liked it better when it doubled your height for each dot. if a 5 foot dude can become 40 feet tall, with one dot, he should get a lot more than 2 strength, well as far as i'm concerned. when i play with my friends we still do the double your height way.

No no no...the double your height is still the same. It's your mass(weight) that goes by eight.

So, under the original book, it's like this:

5 feet = 10 feet

100 lbs = 200 lbs

Doesn't make any sense, right? Why would someone who's 10 feet tall only weight 200 lbs?

Now, under the revised rules:

5 feet = 10 feet

100 lbs = 800 lbs

Still not perfect, but better.
