Aberrant RPG - My Challenge to myself!

Ok...here is the deal. I want to keep busy, and as suck I have challenged myself.

I am going to try to make a 30np Nova of any person you ask for (they *do* need to be slightly superpowered). I dont know everyting on the planet so I may ask what they do exactly...but, rest assured I will make them for your amusement!

I highly recommend reading the Infinity Gauntlet, if not for some cool ideas on nemesis for your nova groups, for just a very good story.

Also, hopping over to Wizkids and checking out their short exerps on Heroclix characters can give you an insight to alot of power classes that specific characters have.

Just use the "Quantum Construct twink*" & build whatever uber-being you want.

* for the uninitiated you simply design a character who can get good Q-Construct rolls (Mega-Manipulation helps) then create a Q-Construct with Quantum 8 & the Quantum Supremecy power & get it to use Quantum Transformation technique on you until you have as much power as you feel you'll ever need. ::devil ::smokin ::devil

The Q-Construct twink is based off 30 NP (or less) - it just has the potential to generate as many spare NP as it needs.

Quantum 4 = 14 BP, +5 NP

1 dot Force Field = 3 NP

Manipulation 5 = free (use basic starting Attribute points)

Mega-Manipulation 5 = 15

1 dot Q-Construct = 5

Total = 28 NP, 14 BP

And that's without taking any Taint... You get a Q-Construct dice pool of 6 dice + 5 Mega-Dice, that's plenty to be making your Quantum Transformation power-up contruct with (take a little time, blow a WP, Max the roll, whatever it takes - you can throw your first lot of free NP into uping that dice pool to make the roll even easier).

Okay, here's my challenge.. my avatar character is named Bolt Crank. His special power (for which he is code-named Eat-Man; to quote a book review: "This is NOT PORN! I swear!") is the ability to eat basically anything he can fit in his mouth (which has quite a bit of stretching capacity) and regenerate it later coming out of his hand. There seems to be no size limit to his abilities (he's done things as big as a boat and a huge, huge dragon, and guns which are even larger) and he frequently takes things apart to the point of their being an unrecognizable collection of screws, which he carries around eating one by one in order to freak people out. He also has the equivalent of megastrength 1, megadexterity 1, megastamina 5 (or something allowing him to take a terminal-velocity fall without any harm at all), and probably some megamentals of no more than one dot - he's completely mercenary, and he always carries out his orders to the letter, but he also always sides with the good guys and finds a way to a happy ending against all odds (i.e. taking an assignment to "protect" a captive girl with blood of elixir of life from her friends trying to rescue her until the bad guys (his employers) can fight them off, then scaring off the bad guys with a weapon larger than he is because he was still on duty. "Nothing personal - but a deal is a deal." He then waits until he's released from his hour-long bargain, and hands her over to her friends). You might take care of this with some points of luck, alternately.

Have you read any of the manga series? If so, I defy you to create him. I'd also be interested in seeing Dewise, either of the girls with electrical powers (the names of whom escape me), or (evil laugh) the Guardian of the Lake itself!

The Flash: Hyperrunning 3-4 (9-12 Np), mega-dex 1 (3 Np ), rapid strike (no enhanced movement, he's not THAT fast), mega stam 2 (6 Np ), Durability, Bringing all his physical stats up to 5 (1-2 NP), Eufibre 5. You figure out the rest.

I think the eating would be a combination of Disintegrate and Matter Creation (he can only Disintegrate items he can fit in his mouth, which, adjusting the range and imposing a significant size limit, might be enough to demote it to a Level 2 power, and he can only create items he's disintegrated, but they're permanent (we know they're not maintained normally because his first sphere created to restrain the Guardian lasted for a year).

Let's see,

2 np - 10 extra backgrounds (node 5, resources 4, eufiber 5, and influence 3)

3 np - modified Disintegrate, tainted

5 np - modified Matter Creation, tainted

3 np - Megastrength 1 (lifter)

3 np - Megadexterity 1 (accuracy)

3 np - Megawits 1 (foresight*), tainted

15 np - Armor 5 (terminal velocity = 10 lethal dice, soak halved.. eufiber 5 and 15 armor soak just covers it - do I have the mechanics right?)

30 np - total

Taint = 6

Aberrations: unearthly beauty, aberrant eyes (why do you think he never takes off his sunglasses?), umm..

Level 2 Aberration: Freakishly Large

The nova is not large enough to warrant permanent sizemorph, but is about 5/4 as tall as even the tallest of baselines, and has shoulders about twice as broad.

Has anyone else ever been bored enough to write up themselves as baseline characters, just to see if they're stronger or weaker than the best that can be done under normal character creation rules? ::blush

Toad is too easy Phoenix: Body Mod (tendril x3, tongue), Mega-Dex 2, maybe Mega-Str, heaps of points in athletics and martial arts (tongue), now for the spit wad hmm... stun attack and imobilize don't work, Quantum Bolt 1 (bashing)"Toad Slime" theme, maybe with a "linger" extra so the slime stays where it is.

I wouldn't even let the slime have a damage effect. Instead, it should asphyxiate per normal rules, and stay on per Immobilize rules, but otherwise yes, a very specialized quantum bolt.

Yeah I know Toad's easy, but it's still fun to do.

Give him M-Str(Shockwave) and then use a body mod for the leap. He uses it a *lot*. This would stop him from using q on it.

Well, jumping distance is based on a Might roll anyway (p.234), so even without Q-Leap a character with Mega-Str can leap a long way (+2½ meters up & +10 meters across per dot of Mega-Str, on top of the normal Might roll). Just give him a dot or two of Mega-Str, & a maxed Might with 'Leaping' as a speciality.

The other possible option would be to give him Mega-Dex & the Enhanced Movement Enhancement & define it as applying to his leaping, not his running (so his leap distances are multiplied by 1+Mega-Dex, & his speed whilst moving via a series of leaps is multipled by the same factor). That avoids the whole Mega-Str issue entirely (since he's supposed to be quick, rather than strong).

(On the other hand, leaping is the very essence of the Toad character, so I'd be tempted to give him Q-Leap in an Aberrant setting anyway, even though it does go beyond his screen / comic abilities.)

I like the idea of the Shockwave Enhancement (as he lands we presume), even though it's not really how he was portrayed on camera (I'm presuming we're talking the film Toad here, since extended tongues & adhesive spit-balls were mentioned). Maybe the Crush Enhancement (when he lands on top of some poor security guard) would work - the 'focus' turn being the time it takes him to leap high in the air & down again?

The tongue is definately a Bodymodification - Tendril type of thing, & don't forget the Adhesive Grip (used in the train station scene) either. The spit-ball doesn't seem to do any damage on it's own (it just cuts-off Jean Grey's air supply) so I wouldn't make it a Q-Bolt of any kind. Best bet, I think, is an Immobilize defined as a rapidly hardening, er..., 'snot' (let's face it) that only effects a small target, but that can be targeted to individual locations (as opposed to the usual 'full body' Immobilize). This'd have both advantages & disadvatages so probably wouldn't be worth any Strengths or Weaknesses - in the case of the attack on Jean Grey the advantage was that he got to target her face & the ST allowed that to class as a form of Asphyxiation attack (p.246).

That's pretty good, I must say I still would have expected him to have more mega strength but crush covers it pretty well, btw he needs more in tendrill at least 2 to have the 2 tentacles and again to increase their length length... sorry I know I'm just nit picking.

RE: Str.

I haven't followed the X-men for a while, but when I did I never saw him juggle tanks or walk through walls. He was stronger than Wolverine, but not as strong as Rogue or Peter (M-Str 3 and 3-4 respectively). Baselines can't soak lethal damage and M-Str 2 (crush) means he gives enough damage to kill any 2 baselines with one punch.

RE: Tendrils.

2 levels makes them 4m, or more than 12 feet long. It has never been clear whether buying one level of tendril only gives you one tendril. One interpretation gives you any amount, they just all have a 2m range and you can only truly control one at a time.

If he has better powers now, then he bought them up with experience ::biggrin (Similarly, Namor started with M-Str 2 and then bought up to M-Str 4).

::biggrin Like I said before Crush works verry well for him considerring that he can pump a crush attack' dammage by +1 per Q-point spent.

As for Tendrill I always assumed you got 1 unless you buy more, I'll check the APG incase it's in the errata.

Nothing in the errata so I checked Body Mofication Tendril again:

\"The character can extrude a tentacle, whip, flagellum or other similar limb.\"

A little lower it says:

\" The tendril extends 2 meters per nova point/3 experience points spent\"

This suggests only 1 tentacle from what I can tell.
