Ok, so I know what Eufiber is and what it does, mechanics wise...my question is this:

Weave is a restricted ability...my character doesn't have it. I'd like to know if it is possible for my character to reshape his Eufiber outfit between regular attire and his Nova costume. I don't want to make weapons or lockpicks or gliding patagia with it, just something easier than having to run to the phonebooth or the Batmobile every time he needs to change identities.

Any input, suggestions? Thanks ahead of time. ::bigsmile

The way I play it is that Eufiber has a default state. This would be whatever look the outfit had out of the box. When charged with Quantum, the eufiber responds to it's wearers commands. The most basic ability this confers ( without the use of special skills) is the ability to alter it's cosmetic appearance ( within limits, can't turn a Eufiber G-String into a Cloak). If the eufiber is ever de-charged ( i.e it's Quantum reserve is spent) it reverts back to it's default state ( Beware second hand Eufiber!)

with weave, the eufiber can do all sorts of Funky tricks..just think "Venom" or any number of Living Costume characters and you get the idea.

Hope that helps.

As it was written up in the core rulebook, your average nova doesn't need the Weave Ability to change an attuned Eufiber suit from "costume" to "street clothes" mode, and vice versa. This clears up all sorts of embarrasing and/or downright hazardous problems right at the outset, for ther mere cost of a few Background points. Sweet. ::devilangel

  • 2 weeks later...

Given that the stuff is more-or-less alive, just what kind of cleaning method would be required? And what nova with an ounce of sense would entrust what is likely his or her only suit of real eufiber to a cleaning service? The people who work in those establishments may (usually) be honest, but they're also usually poor, and a nova's eufiber suit could easily wind up being sold on the black market- especially if the nova it was attuned to was a major celebrity or had superhuman sex appeal.

Another thing: How much can you actually change it? Does it have to be a one-piece suit? Or can it 'maintain integrity' even if split up into socks and gloves and stuff? Is its quantum rating in any way a measure of how big or how changeable it is?

For some reason the splitability of eufiber made me think of this:

Read "The second worst scenario ever written?" You'll understand at the end and you may even get a smile out of it.

(Of course Murphy's law made me look at Issue 7 last and I even looked quickly through Uncle Figgy's pages thinking it might've come from there...)

Somehow I get the feeling i know some of those players... ::blush

Anyway: I think my take on eufiber would be something like this:

  • The suit's Q-rating has nothing to do with size, but more the 'receptiveness' of the colony.
  • A high-rating colony can store more energies, is a better defense and responds easier to the nova's mental commands.
  • It would probably start 'dying' whenever it's not in physical contact with a nova (or other Q-source) bleeding off points at a rate of, say, 1 point per week.
  • Eufiber can only be removed willingly, or when the nova attuned to it is out of juice, so taking one from another nova means totally draining him or knocking him out first.
  • Without the weave ability (which I've only heard of...) a nova can change the appearance of the colony to any static, one-piece form of clothing he can imagine. So no shorts and shoes, unless you want to have sskincolored tendril connecting them or something. ::crazy ::tongue ::wacko He could not let it have moving tendrils or living chains or what have you. Pockets, and the control of objects therein would be difficult.
  • It would probably take about ten seconds to alter the appearance of the entire body (including dressing down for the beach party).
  • Size is irrelevant (at least in this case ::wink ). Reducing a cloak-sized colony to a thong only means that the 'fabric' would have increased density.
  • As for cleaning, i agree that it would probably be selfcleaning as far as 'its' nova's bodily fluids go. It would probably even take care of cleaning the nova wearing it (even if i'd prefer showering anyway)... Anything else would require a wash. So your everyday action-nova would do well with having a spare...
  • And the answer? EuClean™. A must have for any active nova! Just put one tablet in your washer, and watch all those bloodstains, concrete dust, seasalt and foreign tissue disappear. Recommended by the EPA.

I couldn't help but bring up a player in the new Aberrant campaign I am running.

He went the low rating in several Mega-Attributes route, but Eufiber is his gig. He bought 5 points in Eufiber, the Eufiber Attunement merit, & Buendia as his Mentor. I went ahead & let him have Weave. After all he has no Mega-Attribute above 1 & only two level 1 Quantum Powers (Hypnosis & Psychic Shield) at 1.

He has come up with some cool ways of using Eufiber. He took the paficist flaw, so when he was confronted with several thug types, he had his his eufiber expand & gorw spines. He ended up looking kinda like a walking puffer fish. Let's just say he may a very good Intimidation roll after that.
