Nullifier
Hey. I don't have the Adventure book, though I plan to get it. But until that happens I was kinda wondering if someone could fill me in on this Hammersmith Incident, and some engine of the same name associated with it. I know that it supposedly started this whole alternate reality, releasing all these z-rays or somesuch that made weird stuff happen. What I'm wondering about are the specifics, if there are any, like who built it, why, how, where, when, and what exactly happened as a result of it. I'd be greatful for all your perspectives on it. Thanks. ::bigsmile
Defender
Well, the Reader's Digest version of the event (best described via newsclippings and such in Adventure!) is as follows: Doctor Sir Calvin Hammersmith extended invitations to certain individuals to view a demonstration of his Telluric Engine at his private manor on July 21, 1922. His intent was to tap into a new vein of energy, a source outside of the boundaries of space and time, and naturally as all great mad scientists tend to do, he wanted to show it off. Unfortunately, something went awry. . .either his device malfunctioned and exploded, or it worked a little -too- well and overloaded, but in any event Hammersmith's machine did something that not only tapped into this energy source, it released it, affecting the entire world. People and places were left forever changed as the Telluric wave swept across the globe. The good doctor disappeared trying to stop his machine, and the folk who were at the demonstration (including Maxwell Anderson Mercer and the future Divis Mal) were changed into beings far more than merely mortal. There you have it. Of course, Adventure! does far more justice to the story than I can. So go out and get yourself a copy! ::tongue You'll be glad you did. ::thumbsup -Defender.
