Trinity RPG - Device help

alright, here goes: i have a player playing a vitakinetic biotech researcher/designer working for orgotek in an orbital facility, and he bought a couple (2 or 3, can't remember) dot device, which he envisioned as something having to do with his work.

two ideas:

1) something that changes from time to time. ie, every couple of months he has a new toy to play with.

2) something intrinsic to the design and creation of bioware.

ideas, comments, suggestions?

How about a bioapp fitted out with millions of nanotech sensors which deploy into a patient's system and give tremendous information about them, then find their way back into the device for recharging?

Maybe a biocomp with the programming neccessary to design new bioapps of a medically sophisticated nature?

There's a character in Terra Verde that has an implant that helps him design drugs for a drug company. I don't think it ever goes into specificly what it lets him do, but I assume it allows him to do more complex math in his head (a la the Qin Math polyp) and process info faster or something.

Maybe your player could have something simular. Some kind of bio-computer implant that helps him design marticies in 3-D in real time in his head or something. A sort of Brain CAD or something.

I personally dig the idea of a chinging device, I think it can be more fun for the player and for the storyteller as well. By trusting you to come up with the device(s) the player has almost said that they have no clue what the device will do all the time. I think maybe some new and cool bio-app that usually does certain things but every so often it will act in new and previously unheard of ways. It can be an awesome tool for moving a story foreward.

I think that there is an obvious one for him, being a biotech researcher/designer, one device directly related to thier work would be whatever allows them to grow the bioapps in the first place, e.g., and incubation/growth chamber of some sort. If you want to make sure that it fits Trinity's idea that devices should be unique somehow, then you could make it the latest model, with faster growth times, or a semi-portable job. Perhaps a built-in biotech computer (since they work for the big-O) made especially for biodesign and a dedicated research agent might allow a more interactive ability to the research, i.e. bio-modelling projections based on previous growth sessions, growth process tweaking via environmental control, whatever.

Of course, if you really want to be generous/naughty, a good code-Indigo app to give might be a formatting device. I know my players would kill for one of these. ::devil
