Trinity RPG - Trinity Another World

As my Trinity game progresses my players will eventually find themselves in an alternate version of the Trinity timeline, a world where the Primoris was killed before ever becoming Mal, there by averting the Nova age, and giving the Doyen no reason to give humanity the chambers.

Anyway, ever since I started working on this plot line I've grow to like the idea of a temporary forray into another reality. It allows me to make commentary on the themes of the game and allows me the fun of introducing the party to alternate versions of popular characters from our long running games (all of which end up inter connected in some way). I was wondering if anyone else has/is/thought about doing (I know the grammar doesn't quite work out) somethign like this.

How does/did the idea sit with you? Did it work out well? How different were your worlds, and did the players enjoy the story?

Speak to me...

We killed Slider.

Basically, I (the storyteller) decided to shake things up and sent a team of abbies back in time to protect Slider. They succeeded, and, well, the timeline shifted.

Basically, Slider then told the world what had been going on. This placed the novas and Aeon at direct odds, and war broke out a bit early (around 2020). Suffice to say, it still ended the same way, but a bit nastier. Mankind was put into a virtual dark ages. The psi orders needed to be a bit bloodier, and, well, think Trinity through a very dark glass. Even our normally jovial NPC was a tad darker, with an eye-patch, even.

Luckily, at the same time the abbies went back, our chronokinetic created a personal bubble, protecting him and a few others from the effects. A Grek ambassador help to enhance his abilities, and he and a few others were able to send the entire group back to the point where the abbies had gone. After a few checks between the ck's database and an NPC's, they were able to determine where the abbies were going to be, intercepted them all, but not until Slider had been saved. A tk bolt ended up killing her...

Just for those who are still looking for her killers....

one time in bandcamp...

i played in a alternate reality game once. in it the qin were our enemies and the chromatics were our allies.... it was strange. when we came into the new reality i shot a chromatic, not thinking.... and they all swarmed us. the other cool thing was that my character who is a PK saw her self in the other reality and she was a clear..... it was wierd but in a fun way

The closest I ever came was in an Abbie game where I had the players be the ones who broke the story about AEON Society being evil to the world. It worked fairly well. I ended up accelerating the story line towards the end due to impending academic obligations. So anyways the game was pretty decent and I truely learned in that game that I can never trust my players not to find a way to make unstopable characters.

I'm planning on running the section of my game dealing with the alternate reality soon, so I'm working on game notes, and such for the modified setting. Assuming it goes over well and I am satisfied with the setting I am considereing writting up the notes in a presentable fashion. If I did this would anyone be interested in the material?

sorry slag, i hadn't noticed the reply (i haven't checked these boards in a while).

remember the part in adventure! in the setting with Nikola Tesla?

that's what gave me the idea. there are all kinds of plot hooks there - think of a world without the hammersmith incident, or where donighal had figured out within a couple of months how to duplicate it and created his great experiment.

how about the coalition comes two centuries earlier?

i hadn't really had anything in mind but those are what i can come up with off the top of my head.

think also of just temporal changes - what if the archduke hadn't been killed in 1914? what if the allies hadn't won the Great War? what if any number of other things had happened?

My timeline diverges at the fight between Dr. Primoris and the Society.

Basicly everything stays the same up until that point, but the battle happens a bit differently. During the fight Primoris kills Whitley which enrages Mercer, who then accedentally kills Primoris. This puts Mercer in a deep depression that he never comes out of. With out Whitley there, there's no one capable of bringing him out of it.

Because of a change in this one battle Galatea never explodes, N-Day never happens there is no dramatic increase in Meta-Humans, the Doyen never take an intrest in humanity.

Aeon still exisists (housing this world' equal to Neptune), Proteus has taken the form of the Proteus Agency and Triton becomes the Triton Council (a board form shortly after WW2 to control WMD and other advance tech).

There are still a hand full of super powered humans floating around tho, some inspired and a few Psiads and low NP Novas, and some Superiors (& other super soldier types).

The Coalition shows up though and the Earth is in for one Hell of a fight.

From where I stand the primary down fall of my world is the Paris still stands ::tongue

Them's the basics tho.

While it is unfortunate to have Paris still standing in my alternate world I think it would be an interesting role playing situation for characters from the standard timeline to go there, of course I'm haveing really trouble comming up with a logical excuse to do that.

...Accidents always happen...

Most players I know forgive slightly 'illogical excuses' and just go with it as long as the game's fun.

Well I've now started the game I was taking about in this post, I've dubed it Aeon Alt World (I know very original). So far it isn't running as smoothly as I had hoped, but that is more due to lackings on my part. But, I reved for the next session and I've got my fingers crossed, if I can pull this off it'll be really fun.
