Trinity RPG - My new game

I've had a game in mind for a long time now and have devoted some time to designing it, despite what the others in our roleplaying group think (I'm talking to you Pat if you ever come on this board!), anyway last week i gave people character sheets and told them to make characters and before my very eyes i saw the game change just because of the PC creation. The overall theme and story are going to stay the same but the inbetweens are going to need some serious overhauling partly due to the orders they chose (good thing) and also due to them taking VARG's (mix of good and bad). Good since i wanted someone to take something nice and "compact" like the fueradler or the weasel (it would have helped the origional story idea i had in mind), i even made basic VARG cost to 3 device points which someone on these boards recomended. Bad because they wanted the Hassha-Seiun, which is big, bad and beutiful! so i could see why they wanted it and considderring they won't be able to use them on earth for the most part (the shatter and other wastelands excluded). so i allowed it but with the condition that the particle cannon be removed came up they rejected that idea imediately and then i caved and said "fine you can have them for 3 device points and with the particle cannon." now here's the bad thing since they took the beefy VARG's it's gonna mean i have to hit them with bigger and badder enemies. But considdering they're low level characters despite the "potent" psion setup were i randomly gave them a free alternate mode, +1 to psi and extra ability points, should their VARG's get taken out then they are screwed when it comes to taking on the big bad squids. On the other hand when they have a base weapon that does 9 [10] damage with a 5km range, and not to mention 14 smart missiles that do 10 [15] dammage and have 500km range, the VARG's could make things way too easy.

Hehe.....good luck!! I've never been fond of VARG's in the game....they limit the type of missions you go on, plus they're just hideously powerful!! I mean really, who's gonna hire a VARG pilot to investigate a mysterious dissapearance....and what Aeon operative in his/her right mind would send a VARG in for a diplomatic mission!!! The way I play it is that VARGS, like tanks, are considered frontline assault vehicles that are restricted from private ownership and only used in high intensity battles....oh and the occasional Aberrant hunt...of course I guess if you are running some kind of combat intense session it would be nice to have one around.

I initially had the same feeling about VARG's, but considdering i gave them extra bonus points to make it possible for the players to have them, i don't think they'll mind me saying "sorry no VARG's this mission, but deffinately next one" especially sice the previous mission would have been a squid hunt or something similar. Also the line "they're 4.5 meters tall and weigh 6.5 tons, they're too damn big for that tunnel! (corridor, space station, etc. could also be used) should suffice for most "i wanna be in my VARG for this" complaint, I hope.
