The Argonauts (Public Profiles)

Here is where you can put your character profiles.

You do not have to put up your character's statistics, and in fact there is no particularly good reason to do so, but there's no prohibition against it either.

By popular demand, here is a breakdown of the (current) players and how they fit into the team:

The Leaders:

As has already been revealed, the Director for the Argonauts is Jake Stefokowski, however, he will mostly function as a desk-bound NPC who usually only turns up ‘between missions’ and who hands out everyone’s marching orders.

Immediately beneath him is Lee, otherwise known as ‘Machine Girl’, who serves as the Assistant Director, in charge of Field Operations. Essentially, she’s numero uno when it comes to just about anything happening out in the field.

Directly underneath Lee will be Dr. Jason Bannon, the longest-running member of the Prometheans amongst the PCs and the highest ranking. His only real title to this effect is ‘Field Operations Team Leader’ (TL), but the end result is that he is Lee’s second in command. The upshot of this is that Lee will generally be ‘running’ a team of roughly half of your PCs, while Bannon will be ‘running’ the other half, depending on what missions are underway at the time and what sorts of requirements each mission has.

Underneath Lee and Bannon are three ‘Special Team Leads’ (STLs) or ‘2nd Lieutenants’ – for lack of a better term – who operate as the second in command for Lee or Bannon, depending on which of the ‘teams’ they’re on, but who can also be placed in charge of ‘special operations’ units should circumstances call for such a thing. These ‘Special Team Leads’ are: Dr. Willow Carver, Dr. Michal Wesson and Ms. Eva Parker. Drs. Carver and Wesson are the two ‘highest ranking’ of these three, and are the default choice for command below Bannon.

Dr. Carver’s skills are many and varied, and so she is the first choice for nearly all general-purpose ‘special operations sub-units’. Dr. Wesson’s skills, meanwhile, are much more technical in nature, and so he is generally placed in charge of any specialized support or technical units. Meanwhile Eva Parker is virtually always placed in charge of what Asst Director Lee coyly terms ‘acquisitions’. Of the three STLs, Dr. Carver is the most experienced at field operations, while Dr. Wesson is the least. Ms. Parker is a recent transfer to the Argonauts from the Eleusinians.

The Detectives:

While the majority of your characters have at least some degree of investigative skill, there are some who necessarily stand out above the rest.

Daniel Ingersoll is, without question, the team’s Lead Investigator. As such, he is inevitably assigned to whichever Argonaut operation currently underway that qualifies as being the most ‘mysterious’.

While Mr. Ingersoll takes the lead in investigations on the Argonauts, he is by no means the team’s only shining light. Dr. Jason Bannon and Mr. Steve Shreveson both qualify as world-class detectives as well, and both Machine Girl and Ms. Parker possess significant skill in this area. However, Machine Girl and Dr. Bannon’s positions mean that they rarely have the luxury of playing detective, and so it generally falls to Mr. Shreveson and Ms. Parker to fill in for Mr. Ingersoll when he is otherwise occupied.

The Field Specialists (aka ‘The Adventurers’):

The Argonauts being what they are, even nerdy desk-jockeys like Dr. Wesson have more field-specific skills than most, but even so, some on the team stand out more than others. Machine Girl, having had nearly nine decades of practice, is an adventurer almost without equal, but Bannon, Parker, Mel Grimson and Ms. Samantha Grey (who, it should be mentioned, continues to successfully maintain her somewhat high-profile position as a well-respected reporter in addition to her responsibilities as an Argonaut) are all world-class ‘field specialists’ as well.

Like Machine Girl, Bannon’s field skills revolve around good, old-fashioned street smarts and hard won personal experience. Eva Parker’s field-specific skills are much more ‘high end’ and have an almost Mission Impossible level of shiny cool-factor. Grimson is a former merc, and is the team’s grifter; his skills are as gritty and unpolished as he is. S.J. Grey, international reporter, is the team’s everywoman and spy – her field skills are diverse and flexible.

The Thieves, Spies and Break-in Specialists:

As the newly-transferred in ‘Head of Acquisitions’, Eva Parker is the Argonaut’s go-to-gal for this sort of thing. Nevertheless, there are others on the team who are nearly as skilled. Ms. Grey, a former Eleusinian, has an ability to get into places she has no business being in that is fast becoming legend, even in an organization like Project Prometheus. Devin Jauntson – team troublemaker and the youngest member of the Argonauts – possesses not-inconsiderable B&E skills himself, and that’s not including his ability to Teleport. Grimson’s B&E skills aren’t as ‘polished’ as some, but he is more than capable of getting into places he’s not welcome when the need arises. And last, but not least, Dr. Truth Montenegro, like Ms. Grey, has an uncanny knack for charming and blustering her way through security checkpoints and the like with little more than a smile and a fake ID.

The Tech-heads and Science-geeks:

When it comes to anything science or technology-based, the name of Dr. Michal Wesson stands out above all the rest – and not just within the Argonauts either. Dr. Wesson’s technical expertise is without equal and his scientific background is extraordinarily comprehensive to boot. Needless to say, if it’s got something to do with crazy-advanced ‘science-stuff’, then Dr. Wesson will be involved in some fashion, probably as the head of the project. Lurking in the shadow of the behemoth that is Dr. Wesson’s mind, are Drs. Bannon, Carver, Montenegro and Gravinski.

Dr. Bannon specializes in pharmacology and botany, but is more than capable in any of several other scientific fields and is a qualified medical doctor as well. Weird plants, exotic poisons, brainwashing drugs and experimental love potions all fall under his area of expertise.

Dr. Carver is the Argonaut’s lead medical doctor, with her already impressive medical knowledge being augmented by potent healing powers, and is also very knowledgeable when it comes to computers and ‘science-stuff’. When one of you gets hurt, it will likely be her who fixes you up – so be nice!

Dr. Montenegro is the team’s lead forensic specialist and has first crack at any monster-corpses the Argonauts come across. She is also one of the more field-capable of the team’s ‘science-geeks’, leading to her frequently being one of the first Argonauts ‘on-site’ for any truly weird finds.

Dr. Gravinski is a scientist who specializes in advanced theoretical physics and the practical application of quantum theory. However, Dr. Gravinski’s scientific skills are called upon somewhat less than they might otherwise be, due to her high quantum power levels and her mastery of most of forms of combat – both of which make her very valuable in a number of other situations beyond the purely scientific.

The Ninjas:

Dr. Carver, perhaps surprisingly, is the team’s stealthiest member and is particularly gifted at following (some might say stalking) unsuspecting quarry. Because of this, and her powerful healing abilities and medical expertise, she is a first choice when Lee or Bannon must choose Argonauts for particularly dangerous and ‘sensitive’ missions.

Eva Parker’s ‘ninja powers’ are hardly less potent than Dr. Carvers and these play well into her ‘acquisitions’ specialty. When the Argonauts need to get into somewhere without anyone knowing any different, and they don’t have the time (or the inclination) to call the Eleusinians, Ms. Parker is usually the best choice for the job.

Ms. Grey is, once again, one of the top picks for any job where stealth and secrecy are involved. Her ability to infiltrate secure locations and complete mission objectives without anyone recognizing her as an intruder is one that the Argonauts value very highly.

Despite his complete and utter lack of subtlety, Jaunt’s skills at remaining unseen are quite impressive – all the more so when combined with his ability to teleport into and out of virtually any location at a moment’s notice. He is a first choice for any quick snatch-and-grab operation.

Atlanta Johnson, a recent transferee from the Diomedians, is another first choice for dangerous missions where stealth is a high priority. Her combination of silent speed and superhuman combat prowess make her extremely valuable in such situations.

Grimson once again makes an appearance on the charts and, once again, while his skills are not as potent or as flashy as those possessed by some of the others on this particular list, he can still get things done quietly when the situation demands it. And getting the job done is all that really matters in the end, isn’t it?

The Muscle:

These are the PCs who specialize in hurting stuff. Don’t get in their way. wink

Dr. ‘Grav’ Gravinski is, in many ways, the team’s ‘Big Gun’. Her combat skill is, in all areas and in all ways, at or beyond peak human ability, but what really makes her dangerous is her potent control over the fundamental force of gravity itself. Grav is not the fastest and she is not the strongest, but her versatility in violent situations is surprising even to her.

Machine Girl is the team’s other ‘Big Gun’ – literally, in her case – as one of her most recognizable nova powers is the ability to form massive cannons out of her cybernetic arms. However, as the head of field operations, Lee (much to her personal chagrin) must avoid rushing into violent situations whenever possible, and so her combat prowess is only occasionally witnessed by those who serve under her.

Mel Grimson does not possess any impressive or destructive superpowers, but when it comes to the art of warfare there are few members of the Argonauts whose skills are as comprehensive as Grimson’s. In addition to his ability to effectively hit and shoot stuff, Grimson is also the team’s resident demolitions expert.

Atlanta Johnson is, without doubt, the team’s strong – and ridiculously lethal – right arm. In close-quarters combat (or ‘wetworks’) situations Atlanta is as dangerous as they come. She is also the team’s most durable member, aside from Machine Girl, and so she is first choice for nearly all missions where survivability is questionable (not that this is an enviable distinction).

Steve Shreveson, Jaunt and Dr. Carver fill out the rest of lineup when it comes to the Argonaut’s ‘muscle’, though none of them would stand out as such if one didn’t know better – which is probably just how they like it.

Drs. Bannon and Montenegro are capable of holding their own in combat, as are Mss. Parker and Grey, should it be required of them. The remaining Argonauts are all more or less competent when it comes to combat, but must rely on the above-named ‘muscle’ whenever things get especially violent.

The Powerhouses:

As would be expected, the novas on the team are the most obvious ‘powerhouses’ of the bunch, but the psychomorphs on the team are hardly slouches.

Dr. Gravinski’s gravity-control powers are perhaps the most obviously potent and, in some ways, frightening of those possessed by an Argonaut. While the force of gravity itself is invisible, the ability to send out gravitational ‘shockwaves’ strong enough to pulp living creatures or to completely negate the effects of gravity entirely over an area of several hundred square meters is something worth considering.

Mr. Ingersoll’s powers are all in his mind – literally – and as such, they’re not easy to define or to put in perspective. What can’t be denied, however, is that he sees things that no one else does, and to a degree and with a clarity that is almost frightening. Of the team’s ‘psychs’, he is arguably the most powerful.

Dr. Bannon’s control over ambient temperatures is extremely well-developed and allows for a broad range of effects, ranging from the extremely subtle to the impossible to miss. Like the force of gravity, thermal temperatures are also invisible, but anyone who has seen Bannon use his abilities against the enemies of the Argonauts knows all too well that the effects of his powers are not.

Dr. Carver’s powers are about as subtle and hard to quantify as they come, but no can deny that her ability to directly manipulate the human body – for both good and ill – is not one that should be taken lightly. Think about it: the woman can cure cancer with a touch.

Both Asst Director Lee and Atlanta Johnson possess extreme degrees of physical speed, strength and durability. Neither of them can directly manipulate the forces of nature, but they can take a 30mm slug to the face without flinching. So, there!

Not as much of a ‘powerhouse’ as the others on this list, Jaunt nonetheless possesses a broad and unique array of abilities that – all combined – make him one of the most useful Argonauts on the team. His teleportational abilities give him incredible mobility, while his extra-sensory powers are both accurate and reliable. When coupled with his superhuman strength and reflexes, the results are potent indeed.

The Grifters and Troubleshooters:

These guys can’t punch a hole in the wall using only the power of their minds, but they can do just about everything else that needs doing in the Argonauts.

Steve Shreveson is what most people have in mind when talking about ‘stealth novas’ – or he would be, at least, if any of them actually knew he was nova! Shreveson can run a triathlon, hold his own in a boxing or fencing match, solve crimes that would stump Sherlock Holmes, increase the efficiency of your corporate business practices, sculpt a very reasonable likeness of your face, fly a plane, or survive at the bottom of the Marianas Trench, and he can do it all without ever giving the slightest hint of his ‘nova-ness’ (well, except for that Marianas Trench stuff). And while he can’t punch a hole in the wall with his mind, he could do it with his fist easily enough.

Eva Parker – as one of the newest members of the Argonauts – is something of an enigma on the team. What is known, however, is that she Gets Things Done. This is particularly true when it comes to operations out in the field where, frankly, she makes some of the other Argonauts look a bit ‘slow’. If the job involves getting a hold of something that that something’s current owners don’t want the Argonauts to have, Eva Parker is the lady in charge of making it happen.

Samantha Grey gives even the enigmatic Ms. Parker a run for her money when it comes to ‘field applicable’ skills. She isn’t the fastest, the strongest, the toughest, the smartest, or even the best-looking member of the team (though she almost qualifies for that last one), but when a particularly difficult assignment comes along that requires as much subtle caution as decisiveness and as much improvisational creativity as by-the-book know-how, chances are high that S.J. Grey will be the Argonaut who Asst Director Lee gives the job to.

Mel Grimson is the other side of the coin to agents like Parker or Grey. That’s the violent side, for those keeping track. Grimson is the team’s ‘troubleshooter’; he’s not the combat powerhouse that agents like Grav or Atlanta are and he’s not a super-spy like Grey or Parker, but he can keep up with any of them. This flexibility means that he can be assigned to just about any group of Argonauts working on just about any kind of mission.

Truth Montenegro is perhaps less of a ‘grifter’ than others on this list, but of the ‘science-geeks’ she is perhaps the most field-capable (excepting TL Bannon and STL Carver). Like Grimson, she can ‘hang’ with the other groups of Argonauts when the situation requires it and then revert back to her area of expertise when the situation allows. Of particular note – especially when it comes to operating out in the field (which is what the Argonauts spend most of their time doing) – are Truth’s driving and piloting skills. If the Argonauts were a criminal organization (and some would claim that’s just what they are) then Truth would be the first pick for a getaway driver.

Appearance: Mel is 5'8, 200 lbs. Though he does not appear a bodybuilder, his muscles are like solid metal and his brutal strength rivals Olympic competitors. His ruddy skin, short red hair and menacing brown eyes combine to inspire unease and spell trouble for people. He is a steely born survivor as also comes off as such.

Powers, Skills, and Personality:

Known Powers: None

Abilities/Special Skills: Mel was determined by Aeon to be quite qualified for several reasons. He is at the peak of baseline capacity in the physical realm and mentally, in perception and quick reaction. A combination of his criminal past, service as DeVries mercenary, and daredevil nature has led to an impressive command of many skills, such as in combat, vehicular control, stealth, the capacity to subvert security systems, tactics and more.

Most importantly though, Mel's encounter with Enkidu and his tribe has given him a basic exposure to the wider world of secrets that Aeon is attempting to solve.

Personality: Mel is a cynical, jaded man, often unfazed by the depths or many examples of human vice and faults. He is strong-willed and unwilling often to let pain or suffering take over or distract him from his current goals. Though it is easy to call him callous, or describe him as lacking a heart, this is not true. He has been exposed to the darker edges and actions of humanity enough that he has simply become indifferent. He can get angry, appalled, or display and have positive emotions, but life has made him thick-skinned.

Background:

April 14, 1970: Mel Grimson is born to poor white parents, Matthew Grimson and Melicia Grimson in the Wicker Park neighborhood of Chicago.

Childhood through Teenage Years, circa 1986: Matthew Grimson is a local mob enforcer, anti-Semitic, a rabid Daley and Democratic supporter. He is quick and harsh with his hand and words at times, but the family holds together. His maxim of fortitude and ruthlessness that Mel carries for the rest of his life is: "It's a damn hard world. Do whatever you gotta do to survive and smash the bastards. Don't fuck a woman if she doesn't want you to though. That's a coward's way." Mel takes to it and soon is smashing doors and shaking up the stingy with his father.

May 2, 1986- Caught fighting a close but failing battle against four Latino gang members, Mel is nearly down, but relentlessly exhorting himself to win. Knocked down at last, a last minute mental plea to himself brings a surge of adrenaline through his body, and his next kick from the ground sends the leader flying. The gangbanger following him trips over a brick and falls to the ground. During the rest of the fight, Mel has skill, strength and mysterious luck on his side, allowing him to win, then stagger home.

1986-1997: Mel becomes a trouble-shooter for hire for organized crime across the Northeastern US, and developing his skills and Inspiration, becomes a reputable criminal between mob bosses and hired goons. His mental will, strength, luck and tricks become near-legendary, and are sometimes compared to novas when they emerge. The alias Mel Ganker, used for criminal work, enhances his reputation through blunt menace. About 1990, in the early days of the Nova Age, Mel Grimson takes a long-term position with the Camparelli Mob Syndicate.

1991: Mel meets an older woman, widowed Cecilia Janet, and the two fall in love, they live together in New York City as companions until January 21, 1997.

January 21, 1997: Mel receives word that two thugs whose friend was killed by him are searching for him, vengeance on their minds. Mel goes into brief hiding and evades them, but they discover his home and turn their wrath on Cecilia. Though they are later arrested by authorities, Mel is grief-stricken over his girlfriend's death and leaves the syndicate, and his criminal life behind.

1997-March 2010: Mel takes the legitimate killer for hire route, and is employed by Blackwater, then after it folds, later DeVries as a mercenary for theaters of operation where novas are too expensive for the client's means.

June 30, 2009: Operating in a campaign against a warlord in the deserts of the Middle East, Mel is separated from his unit and nearly falls prey to the dangers of the heat and starvation. He is rescued by, to his surprise, a tribe of intelligent and advanced gorillas, who succor him as a guest for a few days. Enkidu the Younger, a venerable elder gorilla whose father once applied to join the Aeon Society for Gentleman, is a generous host and teaches Mel about the history of the Aeon Society in its early 20th century days.

March 11, 2010: Mel Grimson is contacted quietly by the Aeon Society, and informed of their interest in his joining a special top-secret project, thanks to a timely letter from Enkidu. Mel is convinced to join, and is entered into Project Prometheus and given special instruction and training related to his new position as an Argonaut.

Character Connections:

- Willow: (Confirmed) Mel was serving with the Pakistan elites hired in the first Kashmir War of 2002. A team he is with pounces on apparently hostile novas attacking Pakistan-aligned Kashmiri nationalists. When the dust settles, the novas were Utopian, the Kashmiris were holding American tourists hostage, and that's only the tip of the iceberg...

- Daniel Ingersoll: (Confirmed) Mel was still a mercenary in 2008, and certainly far past his mob days. But he still has contacts and hears things from them. And although he doesn't know Daniel's secret or his connection to the plane 'accident'... Mel knows at the very least two things. One, it was no accident. Two, he knows who did was responsible.

- Atlanta Johnson: (Confirmed) Details being worked out...

Personal Information:

Birth Name: Michal Wesson (MIC-ul WES-son)

Identity: Michal Wesson

Occupation: Super-Genius

Legal Status: Adult, non-criminal

Marital Status: Single

Known Relatives: Marcus Wesson (Church of Michael Archangel financier)

Concept: Computer/Engineering genius

Nature: Architect

Allegiance(s): (aside from Prometheus, if any)

Eruption: Emotional stress during finals week at college

Physical Traits:

Weight: 150 lbs

Height: 6’1”

Age (apparent age): 20 (18)

Gender: Male

Ethnic Background: Caucasian

Nationality (place of origin): American

Eye Color: Green

Hair Color: Brown

Handedness: Right

Appearance: Depending on the need, Michal is equally at home in a suit, a lab coat, or jeans and a t-shirt. He's wiry, almost to the point of being underweight, managing to escape the pencil-necked-geek stereotype only narrowly.

Powers, Skills, and Personality:

Known Powers: Telekinesis, Mega-Intelligence

Abilities/Special Skills: Photographic Memory – stretching back to early childhood, Michal can remember virtually everything he’s ever experienced

Personality: Most of the time, Michal is content to be the quiet, likeable guy standing in the background and whispering information and plans to whoever wants to take center stage. However, he is capable of schmoozing and politicking when the occasion calls for it. When in the lab, or in a technical situation, he leaps to the fore, firing off information and directions rapid-fire. His few assistants like him better outside of the lab than in it, but none of them are willing to quit.

Background: Michal Wesson was born on Saturday, October 14th, 1989, at 5:33 in the morning. (He is greatly disappointed by the fact that he was six hours too late to be born on a Friday the 13th.) His name was originally supposed to be ‘Michael’ except that his father was so drunk he left out a letter on the birth certificate. He pronounces his name ‘Mik-ul’, similar to the US $.05 coin. He is the only child of Marcus Wesson and Marissa O’Toole. His father Marcus, is a barely functioning alcoholic who somehow manages to run one of the largest construction businesses in Illinois. His mother, before her death in a drunk driving accident, was a paralegal. His mother died when Michal was five, driving home from a party with his father in the backseat, when their car was struck by a drunk driver. Both sets of grandparents had died by the time he graduated college, and taking the trust funds from each side of the family as well as a decently-sized scholarship, Michal left Illinois, transferring to UC Berkley. During finals week of his freshman year, Michal erupted when his roommate spilled a bottle of Jack Daniels on his stack of term papers. With a tornado of books, papers, furniture, and the occasional vehicle, Michal chased his roommate halfway across campus before passing out. Thanks to his massive intelligence, he’s been recruited by the Aeon society. While most of his year with them has been spent in the lab, he’s quite keen to take on some field work.

His father, Marcus, has been using his construction business for the last few years as a money laundering front for the Church of Michael Archangel. While Marcus is basically a coward, and not taking part in any of the more public or violent events that CoMA arranges, he’s quite adept at using his construction sites as temporary hideaways, and ‘unexpected cost overruns’ and ‘petty vandalism and theft’ to channel money to the terrorists. Since Michal’s eruption, his father has been thinking of ways to redirect some hit squad towards his son.

Michal is wealthy in his own right, enough so that his laboratory workshop at Argonaut HQ has a number of expensive pieces of equipment to make research of the various gadgets and devices they bring back, as well as designing the occasional nifty gadget or advanced technology. While his skills haven’t led to much fame outside of the subscribers of scientific journals, he shows more promise (if less deadliness) than Rachel Alinsky. Despite his massive intelligence and charming personality, he tends to shy away from any conflict with anything sharper than his wits. He’s a rising star in the Argonauts, the go-to guy for anything that involves a power supply or moving parts. His skills in computers have enabled him to scrub virtually all of his information from the OpNet, as well as grant him backdoor access to a number of useful websites and servers. Years of roleplaying games, coupled with being in Drama Club in high school, have lent him the experience needed to modulate his voice when needed to get a better reaction from people. While he does have a smidgeon of training in hand-to-hand combat, that's from his time hanging out with SCA types and mock battles; he's never been in real combat before (unless getting dumped in a trash can in high school counts) and will be utterly unprepared for it.

Other Character Links:

Willow: The psiad doctor has been a lab assistant, and occasional "device tester", as Michal attempts to discover a method to boost psionic abilities. So far, they have not had any success, but Project Pandora seems content to let them keep trying.

Anna Gravinsky: The nova physicist also has some experience with Michal, as she occasionally turns to his more advanced brain to double-check her research into gravitational physics.

Daniel: Daniel and Michal have only met briefly, after Michal designed some custom electronics for him.

Lee "Machine Girl": Michal knows one of her secrets, and he's not telling.

Eruption: Unknown, presumably recent as there are no media details of a Nova matching her description

Physical Traits:

Weight: 134 lbs

Height: 5'7''

Eye Color: Cyan

Hair Color: Pale Blond with Platinum highlights

Handedness: Ambidextrous

Appearance: An extremely attractive woman - if not to the superhuman degree of many novas - with a sleek, lithe figure combining the best features of a dancer and gymnast, if somewhat more curvaceous than most of them, that belies her phenomenal strength. Her legs are particularly spectacular, long and strong and perfectly proportioned between tone and muscle. Her every movement holds an incredibly fluid, economical grace and a restrained strength. Her eyes are a striking cyan and her hair is a pale blond, shoulder-length, usually held back in a pony-tail or braid.

Prefers keeping her black-bladed gladius and uniquely-altered eufiber with her as much as possible, as they are the only physical links she has to her past. She often forms her eufiber into a simple, close-fitting bodysuit with a longcoat over top to help conceal her blade.

axyasm.jpg28vajp4.jpg

Powers, Skills, and Personality:

Known Powers: Tremendous physical strength and prowess, able to sprint over 300kph. Resilient enough to easily resist small arms fire and noticeably mitigate heavier calibers. Superhuman mental and physical response time, enhancing her ability to avoid attacks as time seems to slow for her. Able to resist the extremes of terrestrial environments and need for sustenance, air, and sleep is reduced to trace amounts.

Abilities/Special Skills: Highly trained in hand-to-hand combat, both armed and unarmed, Olympic-caliber athletic skill paired with superhuman attributes. Skilled in stealth, both urban and other. Instinctive tactical awareness. A smattering of basic espionage skills. Has started learning Meditation techniques in an effort to help in overcoming her Amnesia.

Personality: Somewhat introverted with the occasional feelings of alienation - due mostly to her lack of history that everyone else takes for granted. Contributing to her feelings of alienation is that she has no memory of being human as well as being a hundred times stronger than an Olympic weightlifter. She doesn't want to feel superior or seem arrogant, but normal people seem... fragile, even many Novas do too. On the other hand, though she's above average in intelligence, Prometheus has some of the best and brightest minds in the world with a tremendous breadth of knowledge and she's concerned about what skills she may have forgotten. Compared to some of the professionals, she feels a bit like a simple-minded thug.

Due to her amnesia, she has a deep need to know, who she was, and after joining the Argonauts, this need has spread somewhat into a general interest in the weird and unexplained. It also pushes her to try new things, to find out what she likes or dislikes. She is especially keen on tracking down anything she can find on Paracelsus or the Maker of her Sword and Eufiber, as these are the few leads, such as they are, she has in finding out who she was.

Background:

Found at the Saint Joseph Oratory in Montreal by a Diomedian Strike Team in the course of trying to track down Crossroads, a man who claims to grant wishes you never asked, for a price you can never pay. He and his minions had been thwarted in his attempt to claim a relic purported to have been made by an ancient alchemist and physician by a young woman with no memory of who she was or how she got there. Due to the ambiguous circumstances, Jeremiah Jackson, leader of Gamma Team, took her back to a Prometheus field office, trying to find out her connection, if any, to Crossroads and his interests.

Precious little - nothing in fact - was found on the woman, who in a fit of whimsy and classical reading - and a testament to her great speed and combat prowess - someone dubbed Atlanta. Lost and alone and with nowhere else to go, Jackson vouched for Atlanta, accepting her into Gamma Team. Atlanta was grateful and turned into a valued member of the Team over the course of a few months, but seeing her need to know who she was, Jackson urged to join the Argonauts. The Argonauts were usually the first on the scene to the true weirdness, and whatever was in Atlanta's past was probably more than a little weird. Besides, the Argonauts could use some muscle at the forefront instead of always waiting for the Diomedians to clean their messes up.

Character Connections:

Willow: Overseeing Physician, helping her deal and/or overcome her amnesia.

Mel Grimson: In the works...

I'm more than willing to entertain other character hooks.

History

Born in 1981, Daniel was bright youngster, and today he’s about 27 years of age, though he looks to be in the prime of his life, and considering the enhanced lifespan of the various inspired, most likely he is. His parents were American citizens, who were in the high middle class tax bracket. He did very well in school, so well in fact, skipping a few grades along the way, though he had some trouble fitting it, due to that fact.

In his 15th year, however, in 1996, was a key year for him, for that year, his awareness and perceptions ‘snapped’ as he called it, in a manner somewhat akin to what was to be called eruption once the nova’s appeared on the scene a few years later. This was also the same year he graduated from high school, and began to go with a degree in criminal intelligence. He began to explore a new understanding of the universe, something that he quickly realized was far more extraordinary then he thought.

Two years later, when the nova’s appeared on the scene, he at first thought he was like them, but after a bit, with his remarkable intelligence, he realized he was similar, but not the same at all. By this time, he had his first degree, was doing work as a private eye, and working on a second degree in literature.

In 2002, he contacted Pandora himself, having already inferred much of what they could tell him, and having hunted them down as well. With what more they could tell him, and what he had learned on his own, he quickly advanced his capabilities as a clairsentient, becoming one of the world’s premier detectives, and a reputation for achieving success even when others failed. For a time he did considerable work with Pandora, and he still does from time to time, but it’s not his primary focus,

The contact with Prometheus came later; in fact, it actually came as a surprise to him, rather then him uncovering them first. Of course, at this point, Prometheus already knew about him, being able to find it out from the files they had from Pandora. Unlike Pandora, he’s more interested and intrigued by the ideas and purposes of Prometheus, and had put more of his energy and time into them, in fact, he’s a trusted senior operative within their ranks.

Daniel is likely the worlds greatest detective, even without taking into account his abilities as a psiad, and he’s aware of just about everything that happens around him. He also owns a small computer net interface device that lets him pull up information from the net just about anywhere in the world, which enhances his capabilities as a detective. His senses are so acute, all of them, as are his noetic senses, he always knows where and when he is, and his sense of awareness also translates into a near perfect sense of balance and poise. In fact, his senses are so acute that he occasionally sleeps inside a sensory deprivation chamber, just to shut down some of the extreme amounts of information that he is constantly taking in, and get some measure of peace. Furthermore, his strength of will is like iron, incredibly strong, and his patience is almost legendary among those who know him.

Personality wise, Daniel is sometimes difficult to know, though those who get to know him understand that he approaches things from a logical and analytical perspective, and is a rather likeable, reliable and loyal individual who cares about the dynamics of the team more then individuals. He sometimes comes across as arrogant and distant, or cold, even unemotional, though he can be quite charming when he chooses to be. In truth, he does have emotions, but he’s not entirely comfortable with that part of himself, and has difficulty expressing them, he prefers to address matters without them when possible. He is also something of a pacifist, while he’s willing to fight to defend himself and others; he strongly believes that violence should be a matter of last resort.

He also has another complication in his life, though he doesn’t see it that way, it is one of the ways that life sometimes mixes things up. Two years ago, his brother, his brothers wife, and his parents were all killed in a terrible accident, leaving him the legal guardian of his brother’s six year old daughter. What was worse from his point of view, what that he got a sense of unease about the matter even before they went on the short plane trip, but they didn’t listen to him. He attended the funeral with his niece, Kathleen (he calls her Kat, which she prefers.), and she now lives with him. Kat has managed to get her uncle to open up, and at least confess to his emotions some, at least with her, and he does love her.

Known Powers and Abilities

Daniel is a very powerful clairvoyant, a capable teleporter, and has some telepathic ability, together with his skills, this is where a full measure of his versatility and capabilities come of the forefront. Additionally, though he can only teleport himself, he can, with the combination of teleportation and clairsentience, teleport himself anywhere on the planet he can see, and his clairvoyance let's he look places he's never been, at great distance. Add in his telepathic potential, which he has yet to fully explore, and there’s no where he can’t manage to communicate and find things out. As a trusted member of Pandora and Prometheus, he occasionally is trusted with regards to recruitment into either group, although recruitment into Prometheus is much rarer.

Personal Information:

Identity: Bannon

Occupation: Hermit; Argonauts Field Team Leader

Legal Status: Non-person. There is no reference in any government or law-enforcement database to anyone of his description called 'Bannon'. He was, to all appearances, never born.

Marital Status: Single, to the best of anyone's knowledge.

Known Relatives: None

Nature: Cynic

Allegiance(s): His field team; the Argonauts; Project Prometheus; Aeon. In that order.

Physical Traits:

Weight: 160lbs

Height: 6' exactly.

Apparent age: Late teens, early twenties.

Gender: Male

Ethnic Background: Caucasian.

Nationality: Unknown

Eye Color: Green

Hair Color: Snow white

Handedness: Left

Appearance: Tall, lean and extremely handsome. He carries himself with ease and poise, though his attractiveness is somewhat marred by the fact he rarely smiles, and when he does it's never because he's happy. Amused, maybe, but not happy. He tends to dress well, if not fashionably, though comfort is usually his primary concern. His long hair is usually combed back from his forehead and gathered at the nape of his neck in a ponytail.

Powers, Skills, and Personality:

Known Powers: Verified: Exceptionally strong and skilled cryokinetic. He has enough control to cryogenically preserve living beings with no lasting harm to the subject.

It is rumored that his other powers include being 'frightfully mysterious' and 'cutting guns in half with the power of his mind'. Wiser heads amongst the Argonaut new recruits should probably disregard these tales. Though maybe not...

Abilities/Special Skills: Known to be an exceptional linguist and world-class scientist, dealing mainly in the biological and chemical fields.

Personality: Cynical, world-weary, and bitter. Socially hard to deal with: in a word, prickly. If he seems upbeat, it's usually ironic amusement because the world turns out to be exactly as he predicts. His manner, the look in his eyes, and the way he reacts to things betray his true age. Rarely without a cigarette in his mouth. In the field he is a professional. When he has something to say he generally speaks with quiet authority and doesn't suffer fools, gladly or otherwise.

For the last seven years he has been in seclusion, only rarely seen around the Argonaut's compound and, sometimes, drinking with Lee at the nearby town.

Background:

Unknown. All that is known around the Argonaut's HQ is rumor: that Bannon knew Jake Stefokowski when -he- was a young man. That they are friends, as are Bannon and Lee. Stefokowski and Lee are also the only two Prometheus personnel that have been to Bannon's home, which is somewhere near Argonauts HQ. Apparently. He was also a field team leader for the Argonauts for a long time up until 7 years ago. Something happened, but if any staff know anything, they're not talking. Those that don't know have, of course, come up with all sorts of rumors.

Character Ties:

None.

JauntDossier.png

Argonaut Profile: Jaunt

Personal Information

Full Name: Devin Jauntsen

Alias’s/Nicknames: Jaunt

Occupation: Argonaut

Legal Status: Adult, with expunged criminal records in all 193 countries around the world.

Marital Status: Single

Known Relatives: Carl Jauntsen (Father, 39), Misti Jauntsen (Mother, 38), Jenna Jauntsen (Sister, 19)

Nature: Thrill-Seeker

Allegiance(s): Mostly himself aside from Prometheus. Jaunt, at his young age still seems to display a lot of introverted immaturity.

Eruption: None as far as our scientists can tell, and according to Jaunt’s own testimony, he simply desired to be elsewhere during a bad spot in his life and was immediately was taken there. Jaunt’s eruption appears self-induced with no lingering side effects after the fact like head aches disorientation or loss of control of his powers. He claims mastering his main method of transport only took him a few days of practice while other abilities were learned in over time at random, not because he attempted to master something new.

Known Quantum Powers: Jaunt is a nova with the rare power of premonition, the ability to perceive an event a split second before it happens and reflexively react to it. Jaunt is nearly impossible to surprise, using this ability to immediately out of a situation before danger, or an event he doesn't wish to take part in, has the opportunity to happen. This makes tracking Jaunt incredibly difficult and frustrating, the moment he's located, he immediately moves to another locale.

He also possesses the ability to teleport himself, the clothes he is wearing, and, within limits, a certain amount of additional mass that is in contact with him. His teleportation functions by accelerating himself to a speed that literally shifts him into a separate pocket, or tunnel, allowing him to manipulate the space between two points. He accelerates through it, and then returns to his own ‘reality’, at a certain distance from his point of departure. Although Devin controls his co-locative ability with his conscious mind, his power to teleport is not temporal in nature. He can however co-locate his senses temporarily, but the range is very limited.

As he disappears when teleporting, Devin leaves behind only a rigid blur as his body accelerates to a speed that cannot be detected, even by nova senses. His teleportation is invariably accompanied by the echoed sound of a strong wind through a large tunnel. This sound is a small portion of the atmosphere from the tunnel that escapes while the aperture is open.

Devin retains full control over his momentum and range of motion throughout the process of teleportation: he can arrive at a destination sitting, crouching, or in full sprint with whatever amount of inertia he left with or none at all. He may not gain more momentum than he is naturally capable of achieving on his own (normal running speeds), unless he uses other means (like teleporting into the sky and free falling).

Physical Traits

Age: 19

Gender: Male

Height: 6’ 0”

Weight: 187lbs.

Frame: Argonaut Jaunt has a powerful yet very compact, wiry frame that suits his particular talents. As a Olympian level gymnast and physically enhanced nova with no signs of aberrations, concealing his true nature as a nova and his strength levels has proven quite easy for him over the years.

Ethnicity: Caucasian

Eye Color: Hazel

Hair color: Brown

Tattoos/Birthmarks/Scars: Vertical pre-eruption scar approximately 1/4” in length above his right eye (concealed slightly by his eyebrow.)

Handedness: Ambidextrous

Physical and/or medical traits: None

Allergies: Jaunt is highly allergic to Avocados. Ingesting the slightest amount of anything containing avocado will leave him ill for days. His enhanced nova metabolism does not seem to defend him from this allergy, and if he ingests too much it could prove fatal. Contact with avocados, but not ingesting, has left his tongue and gums inflamed for a like period of time.

Background

Place of Birth: Flagstaff, Arizona

Initial perceptions of subject: A cocky and headstrong recluse who felt the powers of the world owed him something. Foul mouthed and irritating with prideful ego but forceful personality. Once I was able to finally get the boy to settle down and hold a conversation that is. He was antsy and constantly in motion like a paranoid man running from shadows on the wall and any number of unseen threats.

I later discovered that the boy had been traveling for so long and stayed in places for such a short period time that his perceptions of ‘here’ and ‘there’ were incredibly skewed. The boy could move anywhere in the world instantly and no longer seemed to posses a sense od distance or travel time. Indeed even walking for long periods seemed difficult for him as the time it took to get from Point ‘A’ to Point ‘B’ seemed to take too long.

Subject’s opinion of others: I’ve not the time, nor the inclination, to list every foul and colorful opinion that Jaunt has shared with me over the years about his fellows of the human race. Suffice it to say that he is very much the modern day ‘Robbing Hood’ who believes that after a childhood of being bullied by his classmates and beaten by his alcoholic father, that the world at large owes him something. He prefers to take that ‘something’ in the form of robbing and stealing from the ‘privileged’ members of society, be them novas, millionaires, celebrities, etc.

Childhood: Jaunt was raised by his father after his parents divorced when he was three. His father, after the divorce, became an abusive alcoholic who had difficulty holding a job for any length of time, making home a very difficult place for Jaunt to want to remain in for very long.

He joined his school’s gymnastics program as a means of spending as much time away from as he could manage. He says his father ridiculed him as often as possible about not participating in a ‘mans’ sport. Despite the ridicule Jaunt found something he was truly good at, aside from his excellent drawing skills. By the time he was in a freshman in high school the school board had pleaded with his father to allow him to attend the national finals seven times and his father refused to sign the release forms that would allow him to go each time.

Jaunt claims that one night, after fighting with his father when he was sixteen, he simply left home and never returned. Research into this matter does indeed coincide with a young man’s disappearance from Avondale, Arizona at around the time Jaunt mentions.

Criminal Record: Jaunt’s actions had led him to a crime spree that spanned all 193 countries worldwide in less than three years. As term of his contract to Prometheus we’ve expunged his record and erased his identity.

Family

Father: Carl Jauntsen (39)

Father’s profession: Until three years ago Carl Jauntsen held a variety of jobs to support an alcoholic lifestyle. For the past three years he’d maintained a steady job as a mall security guard in Avondale, Arizona. Prior to his alcoholism Carl Jauntsen was a successful and well-sought security advisor for corporations around the world.

Father’s current status: Under observation

Mother’s name: Misti Jauntsen (38)

Mother’s profession: Ex-Model turned Fashion designer.

Mother’s current status: Under observation

Sister’s name: Jenna Jauntsen (19)

Sister’s profession: Student.

Sister’s current status: Under observation

Career/Training

Educational Background: GED Equivalent education.

Honors: Olympic class gymnast which his eruption has further enhanced.

Profession: Prior to the Argonauts Jaunt claims he was professional thief. While he possesses many skills that are useful in the field of stealth and burglary I’ve found that his whimsical and shameless attitude have made him useful in a variety of missions that have involved everything from social graces to causing a large distraction. Jaunt is an incredibly well rounded individual.

Skill description: Jaunt speaks six languages… terribly, but possesses a measure of awareness so acute that he’s been known to hear a pin drop from across a busy office. His incredibly tumbling skills can only barely begin to be described and the author of this profile could do his symphony of motion no credit if put into words. Silent and swift his use in reconnaissance is invaluable.

It should be noted however that one of Jaunt’s most useful talents is not his teleportation, or winning smile, or even his acute awareness or tumbling skills. Above all, Jaunt is a fantastic artist, a hobby he claims he picked up as a means to cure himself of boredom when not practicing his gymnastics. His natural skill, combined with an excellent memory, allows us to observe things through sketch where standard surveillance equipment could not pry.

Professional History: Jaunt has been on several missions in the last three years and I’ve personally selected him for most of them. While he is difficult at times and displays very much the loose-cannon attitude that we in this line of work find so dangerous, he has yet to fail to deliver results. His team-building skills are weak and his attitude is certainly the largest barrier we need to overcome if he’s going to ever advance any further within Prometheus.

Special Considerations: Through a bastardized form of MMA and his natural teleporting ability, Jaunt has devised a fighting style that makes use of his own special movement capabilities. Truly a wonder to behold, I must say, as the boy defies gravity and physics, popping in and out on all sides of his opponents during a conflict. This deserves special note because Jaunt seems to detest the taking of life, preferring to debilitate the opposition to killing them outright.

Name: Jael Willow Carver

carver.jpgPersonal Information:

Identity: Jael Willow Carver

Names: Carver, Dr. Carver

Occupation: Combat Medic for Aeon's Project Prometheus, Argonaut Team Member

Legal Status: American National by birth

Marital Status: Umarried

Known Relatives: Robert Carver (father), Donna Carver (mother), Ruth Kurtz (sister), Erick Kurtz (Brother-in-law), Dean Kurtz (nephew), Samuel Kurtz (nephew) and Naomi Kurtz (niece)

Allegiance(s): Project Prometheus, Margaret Mercer

Physical Traits:

Weight: 150 lbs

Apparent age: mid 20's

Gender: Female

Ethnic Background: Caucasian

Eye Color: Blue-Gray

Hair Color: Blonde

Handedness: Right

DOB: 24APR1978

Appearance: Tall and Nordic, Carver usually dresses with elegant sophistication. Her mother’s background in interior design has given Willow a taste of the finer things in life. Her frame is athletic and lithe; her regular runs keep her in shape. Her most common hairstyle seen around Parangaricutirimícuaro is a ponytail, often with a pen or pencil jammed through the tie.

Carver sometimes ‘cuts loose’. On those occasions, her appearance changes completely; her clothing drifts to what could only be called ‘slutty’ and she takes to wearing her hair down. As if all of her is letting go, she seems more vivacious and outgoing, even to the point of aggressive.

Powers, Skills, and Personality:

Known Powers: Vitakensis

Abilities/Special Skills: Carver has worked on teams before, usually as a medic. She’s also capable of running a solo operation. Her combat skills are superb, as she has a natural knack for fighting and conflict. Her ability to hide herself is uncanny, almost super-human. She’s quick on her feet and thinks fast, too. Due to many of her previous operations being in Central and South America, she speaks fluent Spanish and Portuguese.

Personality: Carver is a shy, demure woman most of the time. She has shown signs of aggression before, most commonly in relation to the care of her patients. She is fiercely protective of the unjustly injured, but teammates have seen her turn her knowledge of the human body against bad guys. She has strong views on right and wrong, though is willing to do as she’s told – to a point.

Her greatest flaw is a blind spot toward mercenaries and Elites. The death of her boyfriend in 2002 has left her with a sharp disdain for anyone who kills for money alone.

Though she was generally friendly and charming, there is something off about Carver. People can't put a finger on it, but something about her just isn't right.

Background:

Jael Willa Carver was born in Phoenix, AZ in 1983. She had a brilliant scholastic and track career throughout high school. Her college of choice was UCLA as a biology major, but she switched to pre-med the year after her father had a heart attack. She continued to compete in mid-distance running at UCLA but was forced to let it lapse when she entered the medical program at Stanford. While at Stanford, she met a young man named Paul Chen, with whom she quickly became serious.

In September 2002, she and Paul were in India; Paul had received an invitation to tour some of Utopia's environmental projects in the Kashmir region. The couple was caught up in the First Kashmir Nova War. Carver manifested as a biological psiad, mostly with modes in Vitakensis. Paul died despite Carver's efforts to save him.

After graduation from Stanford, Carver joined Project Pandora where she worked on a variety of secretive black-ops missions. She gradually grew disenchanted with the continual secrecy. While on vacation in Crete, she found an injured woman being attacked by a strange creature. Carver rescued her and learned she was Margaret Mercer of the Aeon Society. This meant little to Carver, but she soon learned - she was invited to join Project Prometheus. Intrigued by the chance to find reveal information instead of hiding it, she eagerly signed on.

Character Ties:

Michal – Being a psiad with a scientific background has made her invaluable to Michal’s experiments on noetic energy.

Mel – Carver met him in 2002 in Kashmir. They are not friends.

Other possible ties: she has aided the Diomedians and Eleusinians in various missions, and has been at Parangaricutirimícuaro for just over a year.

Truth Marie Montenegro

Personal Information:l_d458ad29ea164dad8eb90771fd822b17.jpg

Names: Truth, Dr. Montenegro

Identity: Truth Marie Montenegro

Occupation: Forensic Anthropologist

Legal Status: US Citizen/No criminal record

Marital Status: Single

Known Relatives: None living

Nature: Paragon

Allegiance(s): Project Prometheus/Project Utopia/Federal Bureau of Investigation/Smithsonian Institute, Washington D.C.

Age (apparent age): 36 yrs.

Gender: Female

Ethnic Background: Caucasian

Nationality (place of origin): Boston, MA., USA

Eye Color: Brown

Hair Color: Brown

Handedness: Right-handed

Powers, Skills, and Personality:

Abilities/Special Skills: Truth is well-known and respected as a leader in the field of Forensic Anthropology, which is the application of the science of physical anthropology and human osteology (the study of the human skeleton) in a legal setting, most often in criminal cases where the victim's remains are in the advanced stages of decomposition. A forensic anthropologist can also assist in the identification of deceased individuals whose remains are decomposed, burned, mutilated or otherwise unrecognizable. Truth's specialty has developed over time into the study and identification of victims of nova attacks, since many times these bodies end up mutilated or destroyed in ways most unique and unusual.

Truth is also unofficially known for her disturbingly white-knuckle driving abilities. She participates in smaller rally races for fun, though as a younger woman in her late-twenties she competed in both Rally America and in the World Rally Championship before the constraints on her time due to her professional career became too great to pursue serious racing any longer.

Personality: Truth is a somber person most of the time, and has been ever since she lost her parents at a young age. As she's gotten older, she's started to put together some of the pieces of her parent's death, but too many pieces of the puzzle are missing for her to have a true idea as to what really happened - she knows about as much as anyone else close to them at this point. As a result, she is incredibly dedicated to her work, and spends most of her time focusing on her job. She has a couple close friendships and has been known to date casually, but has been involved in no committed relationships due to a general anxiety regarding abandonment.

Background:

Truth Montenegro was only six when her parents died. In all honesty, she remembers nothing about herself before that.. the fact that she was an infectiously happy child who loved to play and dance, that she loved racing her tricycle around the large manor she lived in, or that she was often on her own, cared for by servants much of the time as a result of her parent's hectic careers. She remembers her parents vividly, or at least she thinks she does, in that way anyone who lost a parent young seems to remember.. with few of the flaws, and all of the wonderful things they've missed out on ever since, like the smell of her father's cologne, or the small crinkles at the corner of her mother's eyes when she laughed. What she does remember vividly was the moment she was told that her parents were presumed dead, and the way it felt as her world crumpled down around her.

Truth was the last of a long line of adventurers and explorers, and her parents were founding members of the Argonauts. Upon her parent's disappearance (and the subsequent trial for Jane and John Doe, who were presumed to be William and Melissa Montenegro, though it was never made official), Truth was officially passed into the care of a man named Alexander Booth. Though Alex would stop by to check on Truth from time to time, she was raised from that point on by nannies and tutors, who looked after her twenty-four hours a day. From them, she heard whispers and rumors about her parents. She learned that even though the nova who had murdered them was locked away for life, it had been a hired hit, and they never caught the person truly responsible - in fact, no one even knew with any certainty who it might be. She learned that Alex Booth was a good friend of her parents - good enough for them to will their only daughter's care to him should anything befall them - though she had never met him before their death.

It wasn't until Truth was older that Alex seemed to become interested in her, visiting her for occasional stretches at a time and getting to know her. He wrote her the occasional letter, and she kept in contact with him, updating him on her progress in school and her hobbies, since he seemed to genuinely care. It wasn't much, but it was all the young woman had, and she clung to it tightly, trying to find out anything she could about him and his relationship to her parents. Of course, when the visits were over and the letters read, Truth would realize that she hadn't really learned much of anything about him, even though he seemed to learn everything about her.

Truth's fixation with her parent's life and death became a full blown thing as she developed into a young adult. Obsessed with understanding the forensic reports on Jane and John Doe, she poured herself into science classes. She tore through Bill and Meli's library full of history and archaeology books, trying to understand what it was that drove them. She graduated from private tutorage by the age of sixteen, and moved on to Harvard University with a full academic scholarship and Alex's complete support. Though there was some initial teasing at her young age, Truth was too fixated to really care about other people's opinions on the matter, and ended up making a few friends, mostly those involved in the same type of research and educational field. Though she earned her B.S. in archaeology like her mother (her father had earned a B.A. instead) and began working on her M.S. immediately afterwards, she had already begun to develop an interest in Forensic Anthropology as a result of her parent's case. She earned her Ph.D. in Forensic Anthropology two years later, having written her dissertation on the challenges of identifying the remains of victims in nova-related attacks. It was during this time that Truth also began to pursue rally driving as a means to take the edge off of her need for recklessness and adventure. She did indeed have her parent's thrill-seeking nature, and rally driving was the only time Truth was truly able to forget about her parents, the feelings of abandonment, the stress of her heavy education demands, or the loneliness she sometimes felt grab hold of her heart and squeeze. When driving, the only thing you can focus on is the road and the vehicle you're driving, and everything else goes away.

Over the course of her professional career, Truth has worked with the Smithsonian Museum in Washington D.C. identifying historical remains, with Project Utopia identifying the remains of victims in nova-related incidents, and on occasion as a consultant with the Federal Bureau of Investigation in both nova and particularly heinous baseline criminal investigations, including a high-profile nova serial killer investigation a few years ago. Truth has also done volunteer work with the United Nations and the Aeon Society identifying victims of human and nova-related genocide in several third-world countries, most notably in Africa and the Middle-East.

By the time Truth had reached her early thirties, Alex decided the time had come to sponsor her for inclusion with Project Prometheus and the Argonauts Organization. He had been hedging his own retirement until he felt like Truth was ready for the truth about what her parents had been involved in, and ready to step up to take her place in the society her parents had helped to found. The majority of Truth's time is now dedicated to the Argonauts, though she is occasionally called in as a specialist for particularly difficult FBI or Project Aeon cases where others have failed.

Mentor Info: Alexander Booth

Alex was one of the early members of the Argonauts, along with Truth's parents. He was particularly close to Bill and Meli Montenegro, and when they turned up missing (presumed dead), it was to him that their precious Truth's care was entrusted. He did the best he could while still participating as an active member of the Argonauts, leaving her care mostly to nannies and tutors - something not entirely unique to the young woman, who frequently had one parent or another away at a time during most of her early youth.

As Truth grew up, Alex communicated with her frequently, and visited her as often as he was able, sometimes bringing old friends of her parents with him to visit her. While he kept the truth about his work secret to the young woman up until the point at which he recruited her (as her own parents had, and despite the fact that as she grew older she was adamant about trying to figure it out), he kept up with her academics and encouraged her interests. Perhaps if he'd been around more often, Truth's obsession with her parent's death - and death itself - wouldn't have developed in quite the same manner.. but there's only so much that a distant guardian could deal with.

Handedness: Right (although does Art left handed)

Appearance: Steve is an pleasant looking Caucasian man with black hair and piercing blue eyes who appears to be in his mid 20's. Steve is normally mistaken for a handsome baseline. 8 Style dice, no mega.

Background: Steve was born in 1921 and grew up during the depression. Blessed with a love of puzzles, he and his parents were cursed with a lack of money. Dad worked at a Speakeasy then had problems after the end of Prohibition. In 1942 at the age of 21 he was drafted into the army (now they'd be called the Air Force) to fight in the great war. He was released in 1946, go married, and for a while he tried his hand at solving puzzles professionally. But being a private eye and professional crossword creator simply didn’t pay well enough to support a family. Instead he used the GI bill to attend college where he majored in economics.

After graduation he was hired for a company as a data analyst. For the most part he was kept in the dark, but his job was looking for economic anomalies, and the people behind them. As near as he could tell the idea was that some people could be consistently lucky. He worked for them for 40 years and retired in 1990. After retirement he stayed in touch with the guys, specifically with email chess. He also tried to stay mentally and physically fit and flexible. He took up sculpting, bird watching, swimming, joined a dojo, and indulged in his hobby of puzzle solving.

His children were born in 1947 and 1950. He watched them grow up, get married, and have children of their own. He lost his son to cigarettes and more or less lost his son’s children when his wife remarried and moved to be with her new husband’s family. Steve’s daughter and her husband were both killed in a car crash, they’d had one daughter. He knows his grand-daughter… but she’s has her own husband and family. In 2005 Steve’s wife passed.

Steve isn’t sure when he erupted. Probably sometime in 2009, but it was a process, not an event. He got much better at chess, at sculpting, found he could hold his breath for longer underwater and the normal age related aches and pains just went away. He realized something was happening when he found himself molding dry clay. Over the next six weeks he lost at least fifty years. His hair grew black roots, he shed his skin to find it young and unwrinkled, he beat the entire chess club, and he won the lottery.

Ironically this last also brought him to the attention of his former coworkers, who showed up on his doorstep and asked him if he’d like his old job back but at a higher security clearance. Although originally they thought he’d become a Daredevil, it quickly became apparent that he was a nova.

Powers: Steve became an idealized version of himself. His age has been reset and he’s smarter, stronger, and more social. The skills he remembers only in passing are his at a professional level, and where he was actually good he’s now great. Steve's strength extends, barely, into super-human levels and he can't drown. Steve can shift probability in his favor in a manor similar to daredevils.

Steve's love of puzzles and puzzle solving became a gift for seeing, and sometimes imposing, order out of chaos. Mostly this is subtle, but his most extreme power is to reshape/mold physical objects by changing their underlying pattern (claws).

Assessment:

[11/29/06]: Mrs. Grey (née Andrews) is an intelligent, self-possessed woman with a surprising level of proficiency across a wide spectrum of skills. She is also impeccably punctual, which is rather gratifying. She pairs what seems to be an innately and fiercely inquisitive nature with caution, and point-blank honesty with the unflappable poise and disarming smile of a fictitious British superspy. She asserts that she is not a complicated woman. The obligatory psych. eval. showed a mild to moderate tendency to internalize stressors, but surprisingly very little else, and so for the time being, the data seems to agree with her assertion. There is no evidence at this time that she possesses any extraordinary qualities of potential interest to other Projects.

She speaks fondly of her family in Chicago, and of her recent vacation with her husband (ref: Grey, Carter James) on the occasion of their first wedding anniversary.

Note: All of the usual precautions have been taken, and we have her assurance that there will be no conflict of interest. Pierce believes she would be an excellent fit for Sec. II, and I am inclined to agree. She will be retaining her press credentials and outside employment under Pierce’s observation.

[--/--/--]: S.J. Grey is being transferred to Sec. I, effective immediately.

[04/12/09]: Advised by S.J. Grey that she has received legal documentation confirming her husband’s intention to pursue a divorce from her. She appeared uncharacteristically distraught, but not excessively so, and will be placed under observation for any signs of emotional trauma or distress which might negatively impact her performance.

Subject’s perception of others: Samantha is, by necessity or preference, a social creature, and appears to genuinely enjoy the company of others. It does not seem to matter whether they are actively engaged in conversation or cooperative work, or simply pursuing their own interests in the same place. In her initial personal interactions, she behaves in a rather formal, clearly professional manner which diminishes somewhat with increasing familiarity. She is slow to trust, and initially cautious about the level of intimacy her attitudes and mannerisms imply, but displays ardent devotion to and even fondness for individuals who weather the frosty getting-to-know-you stage.

History: By all accounts, Samantha’s childhood was unremarkable. The middle child of three, she attended public schools, took piano lessons, played soccer, and even joined a local Girl Scout troop. She grew up in Arlington Heights, a suburb of Chicago, and her parents remain happily married.

In 2003, she graduated from Indiana University at Bloomington with a double major in Journalism and International Studies, after winning the college-focused Society of Professional Journalists award for In-Depth Reporting in 2002. Shortly after her graduation, she became part of the Chicago Tribune staff, writing a small advice column and occasionally contributing smaller editorial pieces under heavy supervision. In 2004, she met Carter Grey at a Red Wings game in Detroit, and they married in June of the following year.

Her enthusiasm and strong work ethic helped her career with the Tribune take off, and she quickly found herself under the wing of the paper’s Editor-in-Chief, Emmet Pierce. Under his tutelage, Samantha’s talents were developed and nurtured until she began receiving field assignments once reserved for much more experienced journalists. Something indefinable changed for her in 2006, while in the tiny town of Haala in northwestern Pakistan. She was investigating the prevalence of honor killings in the region, and became enmeshed in one of the horrific scenarios she had been researching. Few details about the events she experienced have surfaced, but the office of the Consul-General in Karachi has confirmed that a woman matching Samantha’s basic description, along with another female and a male, visited during the time frame she has since described. (ref. Zaidi, Ghazala. 03/24/06)

The incident in Haala was neither the first, nor the last such assignment she received from Pierce, who pushed her harder than ever. At some undisclosed point in time, she began to question the legitimacy of his demands, and where her unpublished work was going. Pierce confirms that she approached him in September, later that year, with the names of some of his Project contacts and copies of certain communications with them. At the time, she had apparently assumed that he was an information broker for elements hostile to the U.S., and threatened to make her findings public if he didn’t give her answers. Pierce hedged his bets, and put us in contact with her as a potential recruit.

While her career reached new heights, her marriage was quietly falling apart in her absence. A year after her reassignment to Sec. I, her husband announced that he was filing for divorce. Litigation is still ongoing, and she is currently under observation until the matter is resolved.

Criminal Record: Samantha Grey has no criminal record as an adult, and the records of any charges as a minor have since been expunged.

Family

Father: Dean Andrews (58)

Father’s description: A former airman, Mr. Andrews now owns a travel agency based in the Windy City, and shares the responsibility for its operation with his wife, Sherry. He is a tall, broad-shouldered man with impeccably trimmed salt-and-pepper hair who rarely dresses in anything more casual than a polo shirt and khaki slacks. He recently underwent angioplasty following a major heart attack. No criminal record.

Father’s current status: Confirmed, resident of the village of Arlington Heights, IL.

Mother’s name: Sherry Andrews (52)

Mother’s description: Mrs. Andrews is the office manager of the travel agency she shares with her husband. She looks to be in her forties, if that, and possesses the same boundless energy and svelte frame that she has passed on to her daughter. No criminal record.

Mother’s current status: Confirmed, resident of the village of Arlington Heights, IL.

Brother’s name: Michael Andrews (33)

Brother’s description: Samantha’s elder brother is married, and lives half an hour away from his parents with his wife, Laura, and their two young sons, Lynn and Christopher. He manages a furniture gallery which frequently features the work of local university students, and dresses the part of the professional. One DUI charge dating back to 2000, no further criminal charges on record.

Brother’s current status: Confirmed, resident of Chicago, IL.

Sister’s name: Katherine “Katie” Andrews (26)

Sister’s description: The youngest Andrews child is, naturally, the most rebellious. After her high school graduation, she became an apprentice to a local tattooist, and now owns her own shop in Texas. In the past year, she has moved twice, and broken off an engagement to the bass player of a nationally-recognized alternative band. She is now living with her first female companion (ref. Woodward, Robyn). Two charges of criminal trespassing in 2007, no further criminal charges on record.

Sister’s current status: Confirmed, resident of Galveston, TX.

Career/Training

Educational Background: Graduated magna cum laude from Indiana University at Bloomington in 2003 with BAs in Journalism and International Studies.

Profession: As an investigative journalist, Samantha spends a great deal of time in the field, gathering data and following leads. More often than not, those leads find her in places she shouldn’t be, and often with no more than a disarming smile and a rapid-fire conversation to get her in the door.

Known Abilities: Samantha’s most valuable asset to the Project is her versatility. Her previous experiences in the field under Pierce’s observation placed her in increasingly demanding scenarios, and per his reports, she was rarely without a number of options at her disposal. She excels in situations which require subtlety of either a physical or social nature, and is capable of blending in with nearly any given group on either a short- or long-term basis. She is well-travelled, and familiar with the rules of etiquette underpinning a wide spectrum of cultures. Unsurprisingly, her talent for linguistics is formidable, and despite knowing ”only” four languages in addition to her native tongue (quote is hers: she cites lack of time for study, not lack of desire), the ease with which she grasps the grammatical and structural rules governing even languages unfamiliar to her is impressive. She possesses an inquisitive, analytical mind, and there is very little she simply cannot do. Such a breadth of field typically implies some loss of depth, but in Mrs. Grey’s case, any such deficiencies seem negligible. This may be attributed more, perhaps, to her improvisational ability than anything else.

Final Notes: Samantha has been one of the longest continuously-active members of Sec. I since her transfer, but others have expressed concern that her continued association with her original employer in addition to the dissolution of her marriage could adversely affect her performance. Until these issues are resolved, she will have difficulty in achieving any further advancement within the Project. Recommendation: Keep her under close observation, and restrict her field operations to cooperative assignments.
