[Monday 22nd June 2009]

Mike was still mentally kicking himself as he jumped off his board and jogged up the steps into the Library of Northeastern University. It was about an hour earlier that he had come across the riddle/fortune cookie that the smaller gathering of Scions had recieved in the early hours of the morning about a week ago. He had intended looking into it the following day - last Monday, but with the summer paper on his mind he had simply forgotten about it as he had dived into the research for that paper whenever he wasn't occupied with his gymnastics or martial arts practise.

This morning while packing his bag for the days research at the library it had fallen out if one of his notebooks, and he had been berating himself for not following up on it ever since. His only consulation was that no-one else had contacted him to say they had found anything in the meantime.

His plan was to do a literature search in the library to try to find out if this was a published piece or if it was a new piece. In the meantime he would look up anything else related to Pandora, either in mythology or in the modern world - companies, products and people with the name or associated names to Pandora. Lastly, he would consider taking it to one of the professor's, but he was unsure what type to go for - literature, History, Philosophy or whatever. Putting his stuff at a table he got started.

Mike got down to work, looking up references both in the library and on-line. He was soon surrounded by an ever growing pile of books and printouts as he struggled his way through it all. By 1pm he had been at it for 4 hours and he desperately needed a break for lunch.

Putting the stuff he hadn't finished with in one pile and the usefull looking stuff in another he handed the rest of it back in and grabbed his bag and board as he headed for the door. After a Subway and half an hour skateboarding around the Common he felt recovered enough to face the library again.

He soon regretted it, finding it difficult to get back into it for the next hour or so. However, a while on the computers re-focussed him and he felt like he was making more progress after that. Indeed he hardly noticed how much time had passed until he noticed people leaving and then he saw that it had gotten to 6pm already.

By Midnight Mike had finished, and had spent some time to double check the results of his days research - not a hell of a lot all told. He had proved conclusively that the only thing the riddle could be referring to was Pandora's Box (or jar as it probably was historically). So basically a day spent confirming what they had already thought was the case.

That done he grabbed his stuff and left the library, dropped his bag off at the restaurant and hit the streets for a couple of hours of exercise, ending up at the late night restaurant where he had recieved the riddle a week ago.
