Gwyn wasn't sure if he was more pissed off at Ari or worried about her. It had started about 3 days ago when she had been noticeably distracted when she turned up for dinner that night, and was the first time that she had skipped the gymnastics/acrobatics that she had been teaching Gwyn and Steve. He had just put it down to some facet of getting settled into her new life at first, but since then she hadn't turned up for any of the scheduled sessions and had even been eratic at turning up for breakfast and lunch as she had done with Livy - which was highly unusual for her. When he had asked about the sessions the second day she had skipped them she had claimed to be reading up on previous mission reports before they got assigned another mission, but it didn't ring true, and when he'd been in the library doing his own research it became clear that she hadn't even booked any of the files out.

So Gwyn made his way to her room, hoping to catch her there, a couple of people he knew from the support staff had let him know they had seen her after he had mentioned to them at breakfast that he was looking for her. Even to himself he wasn't sure which of two possible scenario's he was worried about most, one that Hatchins was hitting on her in a way she didn't know how to cope with, or two that she had found out about who Hatchins was and what he had done to Olivia. Either way it needed to be sorted out if the operation against Hatchins and the IOA was going to have a chance.

Gwyn knocked at her door for a minute, and waited for another two, with another knock thrown in for good measure. When there was no answer, Gwyn turned away with an annoyed sigh, and started to walk away, trying to figure out where else he could catch her.

His luck won out, though, as Aradia rounded the corner just then, dressed in her BDU's and looking a bit annoyed. She hesitated though upon seeing Gwyn, and flashed him a polite smile - though admittedly it was a bit forced.

"Hey Gwyn. Whatcha doin' in the girl's hall? Something I can help you with?"

Gwyn gives her his best 'don't give me that shit' look before continuing, "I mean about why you have been skulking about looking alternately pissed off, and worried. You blow off the training you were doing with me and Steve, claiming you were reading mission reports, but that isn't supported by the facts."

He takes a breath, glancing up and down the corridor before continuing, "So do you want to tell me what's going on, you never know I might be able to help, or I can take this to Damien and Vinny. Vinny you might be able to get around, but I don't think you could Damien."

She stood there a minute, annoyance written all over her face. She crossed her arms for a minute, and then placed a hand on her hip.

Just who the fuck does he think he is?

"Well, I'll tell you what, Gwyn. I've been spending my time preparing for future missions. I'm real sorry I haven't made our lessons and all. I'll be happy to pick those back up after this mission is over. But for now.. if you have a problem with my actions.. you go right ahead and take it to Vinny. If he has a problem with what I'm doing - he can talk to me about it. He's my CO after all. And if you wanna go talk to Caine.. well, I'm sure Vinny will be real thrilled that you decided not to respect him enough to talk to him about it first. That's gonna go over great, I'm sure. Right? Got it? Good."

She turned and stormed off then without waiting for a response, slamming her door behind her angrily. It dawned on him then that despite how useful her powers were.. it was probably a good thing Aradia was on Wright's team, instead of Caine's. Their personalities seemed inherently suited to each other. That, or they'll end up killing each other, and he wasn't sure which.

Well that just proves that there's something up. Christ, I wish I had Damien's people skills.

Gwyn stalks up to her door, and after taking a breath to calm his immediate reaction knocks politely on her door. Without waiting for a responce he says, just loud enough to be heard through the door. "Ari, I'm sorry I'm an arse, but seriously, you have seriously and suddenly changed your behaviour these last few days. If Olivia was here I assume you would talk to her about it, but she's off on leave. I'm just trying to help, because something that's affected you this much is going to get noticed up the chain sooner or later. If you want me to take it to Vinny I will, but Damien is a hell of a lot easier person to talk to than Vinny. Unfortunately, that also means it's likely to be harder to hide things from him."

With that he stands back and waits to see if there is a responce.

There was silence for a moment, and then the door opened, and Aradia looked him over for a moment, eyebrow arched, before she relaxed a little and flashed him an amused smile.

"Well at least you were able to admit it. Most men aren't. Look.. I appreciate your concern. I really do. And I promise, things'll be different when we get back from the mission. But I swear, all I've been doing lately is getting a lot of shapeshifting practice in. I dunno, maybe I'm a little nervous about stuff. You guys all seem so much more confident in your abilities. I don't know if mine are harder, or if I'm just a slower learner. Maybe both. But I have spent most of the last few days as anything but Aradia."

Aradia didn't seem like the type to be a very good liar, as Gwyn had noticed.. she was the type to tell you what her problem was with you to your face. But when she started talking about her abilities and her shapeshifting practice, that seemed to have the distinct ring of truth to it. After a moment, she sighed, and shrugged a little.

"I've also had some other stuff on my mind, but it's all personal stuff, Gwyn. Nothing that's gonna affect my missions, and nothing I won't be able to work out in time. I'd prefer if we could keep it that way.. okay? This isn't anything that we need to discuss with Vinny or Damien. And I promise - if I feel like I need help, or someone to talk to.. you'll be on my list. Just.. trust me, okay?"

She smiled softly at him then, and a little imploringly, waiting for his response.

That's more believeable than her catching up on mission reports. Heh, yeah, I'll be on her list. About 3 up from bottom.

"Ok, Ari I'll go quietly, but I need to check one thing first.I know it's probably a stupid question, but your very close to Olivia so I think I have to check. This personal stuff, does it involve Olivia at all?"

He is looking intensely at her for the truth, "It's really important you tell me the truth about this Ari, we have an ongoing operation which relates to events in Olivia's past."

Click to reveal..

Aradia briefly considered trying to bullshit her way through the situation, but knew she'd probably give herself away in a heartbeat. Oh well.. let him think what he wanted to think. He wasn't gonna get confirmation from her, one way or another. She shook her head at him, and sighed, looking a little annoyed.

"Sorry, Gwyn. Personal is personal, which means I don't feel like discussing it with someone I'm just getting to know. Now.. no offense, but we're done here, okay? Good luck on your mission tomorrow. I'll see you around."

With that, she closed the door in his face, though it wasn't a slam like last time. A moment later he heard the click of the lock that meant she didn't intend on opening it again.

Gwyn shrugs, "Fair enough Ari. Good luck yourself."

He turns and walks away before the lock clicks.

Shit that doesn't sound good. If it was nothing to do with Olivia what would be the harm in saying so? I better go tell Damien we may have a problem. Olivia or Damien had better bring Ari in on the Hatchins/IOA operation, for that matter the other Specialists close to Olivia probably should be briefed on it as well so they don't inadvertently interfere. Damn, we should have considered it snowballing from the start, or moved quicker.
