Alternity: The Elements of Eternity - Ep. 1 - Destiny in Motion (The Distraction)

Round 1

Enemies: 17

Missles soared through the sky leaving their trail of exhausted fuel as they slammed into the base's Administration Building. The explosion rocked the foundation and alerted everyone to the mecha's presence. Alarms sounded as best they could -it appeared Shiro has struck their power grid- as the entire base fell back onto auxiliary power.

Soldiers flooded from the barracks as Shikon stomped through the security fencing and a barrage of OICW charge rifle fire 'pinged' harmlessly against Shikon's vanadium plating.

Near the motor pool two soldiers ran towards two separate scout class 'Scarab' mecha, whose cockpits were open for maintenance at the time of Shiro's arrival. Several smaller vehicles were parked in the motor pool as well as out in the yard for repairs or maintenance, although they didn't seem a threat... at the moment.

"Handle the Scarabs!" The Captain shouted over the explosions and gunfire. "I'll handle the personnel!" With that he leapt down, firing of full auto bursts from his customized Valkyrie-9 auto laser. Several crimson beams tore through body armor sending a good portion of the men to their makers.

Although you fired two missiles the launcher (and what you're permitted per turn) is limited to one missile per attack action. I liked the double missile action though so I only charged for a single missile, which is why it says 3/4 instead of 2/4.

Shikon's hardness absorbed any/all the damage inflicted by the enemies.

Initiative:
Erebus: Grossly powerful NPC initiative... (i.e. whenever he wants to go)
Enemies: 17
Shikon: 11

Shiro smiled and took aim on one of the pilots so eager to get into the fight with his rifle while trying to maintain his evasive maneuvers.

quickly realizing the mech's were shut down for maitenence he realized he had a golden oportunity to take them down without fighting them. He prepped the launchers to fire again, zeroing in on the open cockpits.

Round 2

The echo from Shikon's gigantic rifle 'thumped' loose a shell that impacted the ground in the running soldiers path and reduced him to a fined red mist amongst a rather tractor tire sized crater.

[squad 1,2,3, Attack]Finally getting their bearing after a charge onto the battlefield the squads of Thuldan Soldiers took up firing positions, locked their rifles on Shikon and opened fire. In a concentrated burst rifle ammo tore into Shikon's armored chest.

Like an angel of death Erebus moved about the open yard, his precious 'Valkyrie' launching bursts of crimson beams that seared through armor and flesh as his high frequency blade -one of two he brought- sliced through any soldier foolish enough to get close.

"Sir! We have a problem out here! We need artillery! Repeat! We need artillery!"

Shiro launches a missile into the first scout with a smile on his face. Take our their big guns and he'd feel much safer. He could hear them calling artillery. "Captain I'm gonna take these two out, but could you silence that call before they get a fix on us for an arty strike?"

Round 3

With a dead on shot the missile tore apart the inside of one of the Scarabs with the open cockpit. The shrapnel mingled with the intense heat of the T-87 ruined any chances the soldiers would have to get that mecha operational any time soon.

By the time Shiro had fired the missile Squad 3 was already dead or wishing they were, and Erebus was moving on...

[squad 1,2,Attack] "Concentrate fire!" A soldier shouted. "Take it down!" More full auto fire flattened harmlessly against Shikon's exterior.

[Artillery] "Rodger that." Came a modulated voice over the monitored comm channel. "M-300 en route boys, stand your ground and give those dumb bastards everything you got!"

"We are sir!" Came a reply. "And it's only pissing them off!"

Common sense gripped the soldiers running for the Scarabs and they abandoned their dash to them -for now- after seeing one go up in an unpleasant burst of flame.

"Too late." Erebus said coldly over the unicomm. "You have time before they get here, finish up. I'll meet you back at the ship. There's something I need to take care of."

Round 4

The second Scarab implodes from the missile blast sending interior components everywhere across the courtyard.

Amid the screaming and yelling Shikon's hand scooped up a T-95 Cavalcade chaingun and the magnetic pads interlocked and began running diagnostics on the weapon as it synced to the mecha's frame.

[squad 1,2, Fleeing]The two squads firing upon Shikon scattered, occasionally looking back to fire one more random burst upon his vanadium plating in hopes that maybe a luck shot would make him or her the hero of the day.

[shiro, Spot, Success] Atop the barracks was a single soldier who had knelt down and was taking aim on Shikon with a large pistol sized L.A.P. (Light Antitank Pistol). He takes aim and fires launching a mini rocket directly at Shikon.

[LAP Soldier, Attack 29] Before Shikon could dash out of the way the rocket tore into the mecha's groin where it's thigh met the hip.

The spot check prevented you from getting caught flat-footed but the guy ended up with a damn good roll so it didn't matter anyway. Oh well, these things happen.

[Damage] Roll(10d6)+0:5,4,6,1,2,3,1,4,3,3 Total:32

Remember your mecha's hardness acts as damage reduction. Subtract the hardness from the damage above before you tally up how many remaining HPs you have. While piloting Shikon Shiro has 152 hit points.

Round 5

The Cavalcade started its droning whirl as the barrels sparked to life. Bullets the size of paperweights tore through the air as the tracer rounds streaked like white lasers after the muzzle flash.

[LAP Soldier, Reflex Save, Failure] The bullets zigzagged across the building and arcing up over the top a few times in a horizontal streak of death. Seeing it coming, the soldier attempted to dive out of the way below cover but it was too late. In mid air the man was torn to shreds as his body was juggled for a brief moment in the air by the torrent of gunfire.

Shiro knew he was out of time even as the guard was cut to ribbons under the cavalcade's fire. He took off like a bat outa hell back to the rendevous point, not wanting to be caught in the open by enemy artillery.

"I'd have liked to get one of those scarabs for parts, but I guess not. It's all gonna be flattened in a few seconds anyway."

End Combat

"Target is fleeing the scene, are we to pursue? Command advise." An operators voice came over the comm.

"Negative, we need you here. Maintain radio silence and await further instructions via Psicomms."

The mecha flew off and the artillery didn't give chase, not even so much as a warning shot. Shikon had successfully(?) evaded the enemies pursuit.

Shiro took a fairly roundabout course to the rendevous point, mostly to throw off any pursuing elements these guys might have had. Once there he waited in standby mode for the others to arrive so they could get off this shitty little planet.

He smiles. He had gotten a new toy out of the trip so it wasn't all for nothing. The Cavalcade was a nice weapon for gunning down unarmored troops, or as he'd heard it called, "Crowd Busting."
