Each SGC Specialist is hand delivered a memo by Walter. The note says simply.

Click to reveal..
You are welcome to a wits + rapport or a manip + subterfuge roll. Those gaining 3 or more successes get the feeling that Walter is nervous about delivering the messages. He does a credible job of pretending it's just another meaningless bit of paperwork, but a) Walter is a gate technician not someone who delivers notes, and B) he's just a touch too high strung about it for it to be just regular paperwork.

"Your presence is requested in the briefing room at 03:00 am. -O'Neill"

______

03:00 Oct 6th.

The specialists still on base all show up some bleary eyed some looking like they were awake anyway. O'Neill stood leaning casually against one wall looking a little tired himself, but otherwise fine. He nodded greeting to each person in turn as they entered. Outside the door there were two guards heavily armed and looking alert but relaxed. Once the last of the specialists were within the room O'Neill closed and locked the door then moved back to his office for a moment and picked up the red phone and said just one word, "Ready."

Just seconds later the room was faintly flooded with blueish white light as three men beamed in via Asgard teleportation technology no doubt a result of the Prometheus. Two of the three were Secret Service and the third was easily recognizable as the President, Henry Hayes.

General O'Neill came to full attention and saluted formally which was the first time anyone in the room had ever seen him show someone that kind of respect. Once other military folks in the room had performed their own salutes and such the President motioned for everyone to take their seats. He had a crooked smile and a friendly air about him, but still he somehow managed to convey an aura of authority. This was a man that was used to being obeyed and shown respect, he was truly the most powerful man on Earth after all, present company not withstanding. Despite that he seemed friendly enough.

His smile took in all the specialists, "Good evening. I am sorry for the late hour, but I'm afraid my people," he gestured to the Secret Service men, "decided that I should not make this an 'official' visit both for political and safety reasons. Still, I couldn't resist any longer. I wanted to meet you all and shake your hands. The general tells me good things, I understand you've all had very successful first missions and have even provided us with some valuable intelligence that could help us in our struggle against the Goa'uld." He still looked friendly and welcoming, but the hint of his authority was never far from the surface.

"I know there has been some debate within the IOA about how you all should be treated and the access you should be given. They've urged me to caution, but I wanted to see you all with my own eyes and meet you personally." Henry Hayes had a reputation for being a strong judge of character, and you can't help but get the feeling that you are being weighed and measured by the man. Each person in turn received a hand shake and he peered into each persons eyes and face in turn.

Once he had made his way through all the specialist he walked over to the big glass window that looked down on the gate room and clasped his hands behind his back for a moment in thought as he stared down at the big artifact. When he turned around he seemed to have come to a decision.

"I want you all to know that I have faith in you. There was some talk of risk in allowing people with your unique skills and abilities to be put in harms way out there." He gestured up at the ceiling meaning space. "I think we are in good hands, and I know you will do us proud. If there is ever anything I can do, General O'Neill has my number." He looked like he was done talking and making ready to go.

When he shook her hand, Olivia nodded and smiled, a little overwhelmed. She'd never expected to meet the President; she dreamed of writing a book that the President enjoyed enough to seek her out. It seemed odd that she'd end up meeting him because she'd been in the wrong place at the wrong time. She felt a bit awkward, too, knowing that she hadn't voted for him.

"Sir," Olivia said quickly when he made to leave, stepping forward. Her knees were weak as she spoke, but she keep her voice firm as she said, "Mr. President, thank you for having faith in us. And yes, I think we're in good hands with General O'Neill. The only thing I wanted to add is that... I think we can do more. More for SGC, more for the US, more for Earth. I can't speak for us all, but I think most of us want to do more. We can do some incredible things, sir. More than even we suspect, I think."

Noah hustled down the corridors, moviing quickly but not running. Running in military bases tended to give the impression of trouble and started rumors. Noah was trained to know better so he kept his pace brisque but under control. He stopped just outside the briefing room to calm himself and make sure his uniform was in perfect order and as usual he had nothing to worry about. He stepped into the briefing room, came to attention and snapped a smooth and graceful salute to the General as approprate.

Noah was agog when the President of the United States beamed in with his entorage. He did his best to hide his amazement but it was a day for firsts for the young marine. The first time he'd met the President and the first time he'd seen Asgardian transport technology in action. When President Hayes shook his hand Noah simply said "It's an honor Sir," and meant it completely. He may hate serving in the military but Noah was still a patriot.

Gwyn was more impressed by the sight of the Asgard teleportation device than the presence of the President, and was still thinking about ways in which it might work and possible uses when President Hayes reached him in the line.

Realising it was his turn Gwyn straightens up, still in the BDU's he had been wearing during the day as he had come straight from the library. Shaking the President's hand Gwyn says simply, "Gwyn Jones from the UK Sir. By the way, what did being telepoted feel like?"

Henry Hayes smiled back at Olivia, "I believe you are right, and I look forward to discovering along with you what you are all capable of. I am just glad you are on our side." His half smile conveyed a playful sense of humor despite the words.

Moving down the line to Noah, the President nodded at his words as if they were expected and deserved, but not in an arrogant way. He was a man that knew his place and the power and honor of his office. "Thank you son. It's soldiers like yourself that make it possible, keep up the good work."

Hayes stopped for a moment smiling at Gwyn's question, "Tingles a bit. I'm sure you'll have the chance soon yourself. We'll be sending the Prometheus to the Pegasus galaxy to make contact with the Atlantis mission soon perhaps you and your team will be onboard."

Saying just a few words to each person the President continued down the line, all the while his body guards kept a careful eye out for danger.

((OOC: please continue to greet the President if you haven't already and wish to.))

Aradia had showed up and listened to the President's speech quietly. She had just gotten back from her first mission, found out about Livy's past, and all this just a couple days after being released from a long bout of observation. She was a little overwhelmed, and it showed.

"Aradia McConnell. It's, um.. it's a pleasure- I mean, an honor, sir. Or both, really, I suppose."

She blushed slightly, and shook her head. She was making a fool out of herself. But what the hell do you say to the mother-fucking President of the United States? I mean.. damn. She imagined the look on her Dad's face though, knowing his daughter was meeting the Commander-in-Chief. The thought sent a small swell of pride through her, and a little sadness that he would probably never get to know. This was all too hush-hush for a normal Air Force guy to hear about. She straightened up a little, trying to look a little more dignified. For her Dad, it was the least she could do. When she spoke her voice was quiet, but serious.

"Anything we can do to help, Sir.. just let us know."

The President smiled at Aradia, "Your father is in the Air Force I believe. He's served his country all his adult life, a good man according to the report. I imagine he would be proud to know you were serving as well." It was obvious he'd read a briefing on each of you and knew at least some of the details of your lives, but more than that it was the way a man like him let people know that they were more than just a number in a uniform.

Aradia smiled at that, and nodded at him. His tactic had the intended effect, for he could see the young woman's face soften a little at his mention of her father.

"Yes Sir.. I'm sure he would be. Surprised, but proud."

The smile turned into a playful grin, and he could tell she was poking a bit of fun at herself.

Vinny shook the hand of the President firmly and did his best to stare him down, nodding once. Vinny was distrustful of politicians, Leader of the Free World or not. He didn't care if the ass-tard signed his check, all he did was push paper and accept checks from fat-cat lobbyists. We all put on underwear one leg at a time.

Vinny was hardly patriotic, he was here to protect the dirtball he lived on, and would more than likely die doing so. His record with the Stargate Program more than proved his worth, 'Specialist' abilities aside. Had he not spent the last few years galloping about the Galaxy, Vinny might have more respect for the Office, but after a few dozen trips through the Stargate, a man's perspective changes irrevocably.
